Send us a textYou might know Brian Wecht as Ninja Brian. Or maybe you know him as Trey Magnifique. Perhaps, you just know him as Brian and that's fine too. Matt and Jeff were just thrilled to have him on the podcast to talk about Al Jarreau's mighty fine Breakin' Away album. But there were conditions. First, an impromptu 20 minute discussion about Kenny G. You'll see. Is there a Chicago reference followed by some scathing condemnation? You know there is.As it happens, Brian, er, Trey Magnifique has a new holiday EP, Let it Blow, available now as you're listening to this. We talk about that and you should buy it and give Brian some of your hard-earned money that you were planning to spend on Christmas cookies. Was Jim Morrison on the receiving end? What does it all mean? I guess it means that we had a really fun and extremely random conversation with Brian that covers a lot of different topics. Which frankly, it feels like that's exactly what needed to happen. Our thanks to Brian for spending time talking tunes with us. We look forward to having him back on the podcast soon! Follow him on X, formerly known as Twitter, but also follow him on BlueSky. You know he has a podcast, right? It's called Leighton Night and you can listen here.P.S. This episode has some filthy language. You kind of expected that, didn't you?P.S.S. Jeff and Matt are on BlueSky as well.Support the show

Dave and Ethan are joined by Dan Avidan (Danny Sexbang) & Brian Wecht (Ninja Brian) of the comedy music band Ninja Sex Party! They talk about their love of Weird Al, his influence on their music, and when Weird Al was a guest on Game Grumps!
It turns out that our little joke about Ninja Sex Party's silent member being our guest… did not thrill Ninja Brian himself. He comes to kill us, but then stays for the on-point musical banter! Also, we play the most overplayed Rolling Stones hit and then revisit Wilco's 20 year-old (!) “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.” Want to hear all the music we talk about? With Special guests CoreyGeek (from the Geekspin Podcast) and Thomas Carpenter (from the High Frequency Kicks Podcast). Thomas brings in some new, strange music to our Podcast. You may not have heard of everything we cover in the episode, so check the links to each of the music videos and open your ears (and eyes) to some different music you need to check out, featuring traditional instruments with mainstream ones. (7:33) We lead the show off with Ninja Sex Party, an incredibly talented duo with impeccable musical chops. The first song is about their singer talking to the younger version of himself, featuring, you know, that kid from Stranger Things. Ninja Sex Party – Daddy Don't You Know https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT8cX2-_7pQ (9:28) And because the last song was such a great romp, we did one more from Ninja Sex Party called Mansion Party. Ninja Sex Party - Mansion Party https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNoafUU4Ikw Next is a spin off group of Ninja Sex Party, featuring some Rooster Teeth peeps. Star Bomb's song is about an inappropriate creep in Nintento's Zelda games. (19:16) Star Bomb – Best Zelda Rap Ever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0m9QUoW5KnY (23:52) And because we are nerds, we dove headlong into a talk about Zelda, and (28:04) talk about the Nintendo Switch. (31:52) Gregorian throat singing? Traditional instruments? The HU has all that and more, including a banging bass and drums and this beautifully shot video. The HU – Yuve Yuve Yu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4xZUr0BEfE (37:36) And because throat singing is so close to metal in some ways, we also watched their cover of Metallica. The HU - Sad But True https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpxA_ZxGX_M (39:32) SeanGeek and FastFret are both East Coasters and were raised on Celtic music, a love that Thomas has always had. So what happens when bagpipes mix with a sludgy sound? You get the Sidh. The Sidh – Iridium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amJ_WLmOKS0 (43:28) Next up is a Japanese band called Wagakki. They play traditional Japanese instruments, with lush production meshing with modern music, and insane visuals. This 8 person band features two drummers and a number of different stringed instruments and even a wind instrument that would slay any and every Kenny G. The video chosen shows just how big this band is and how insane the musicians are. Just look at that crowd. Wagakki – Homura + Akatsuki no Ito / 1st Japan Tour 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ponTbDDMYjw (53:04) SeanGeek adds his own to the list with his favorite all time performer, the funky That 1 Guy. Unconventional to the point that he built his own instrument called “The Magic Pipe”, this DYI instrument emulates a guitar, bass, drums, with tight songwriting and impeccable timing. That 1 Guy – Mustaches https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XHt32UVqLk (58:34) And because we did not get enough of Ninja Sex Party, we also watched one more from the guys called Welcome To My Parents, an ode to Danny Sexbang's sexy home (which happens to be his parent's house – because, duh, he still lives at home) and the stealthy Ninja Brian. Ninja Sex Party's - Welcome to my Parent's House https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YXUWWZJXpE (1:00:05) After this great offering of some great tunes, the gang discusses the failings of modern radio, and the 5 artists that get played, there is still some great music out there. These bands prove that you can still go out there and be original, and still make great music, regardless of how niche it may be. Hi-Ya! Go Banana Go are here to bring us a good time and keep us laughing. "Go Banana Go!, is a collaboration from leading players in the comedy music world, LA based music producer and songwriter Jim Roach and Brian Wecht, better known as “Ninja Brian” who is also a retired theoretical physicist. On their first album for kids and families, the energetic and eccentric duo set out to make a record as smart and funny at the adult level as it is for kids." Make sure to check out their full song 'Pizza Feet' at the end of the episode. Continue reading Episode #261 – Go Banana Go on the site.
"We started as a comedy duo where I was a Jewish spandex wearing super hero and my best friend Brian was a ninja and he would jokingly kill people on stage", explained Danny Sexbang on the general overview of Ninja Sex Party, "and we started making songs and somehow ten years later we've become a six piece touring band that travels all over the place. It's really nuts".Ninja Sex Party are not your average comedy musical project. They are a world renowned act that has as much childish maleavolence as it does anarchistic intent, with even the kings of music comedy Steel Panther amongst the bands biggest fans, having performed on stage with them as well as being involved with their music videos."We love those guys"! Danny enthused. "First of all, when we started in 2009 Ninja Brian played me Steel Panther's first album Feel the Steel and I loved it immediately and he said if we ever get to collaborate with those guys he would consider our band a success (laughs). Then lo and behold... I think we met them through an internet company where I was working and the guy who sat next to me was working on Steel Panther's You Tube channel and I basically just annoyed him every day until he finally gave in and said fine, I'll send them your stuff and they were into it and we met and the rest is history. I love those guys, they're really cool".Tune into the full interview for a comprehensive rundown on everything Ninja Sex Party including what to expect from the live show, whether they consider themselves more a musical or comedy act, their formation and subsequent success, their debut album and what they were looking to achieve, why they have released two covers albums with a third on the way, how they reproduce their outlandish film clips live, the Ninja Sex Party mantra plus a cheeky fan question from the bands biggest Australian fan, Cory Stevenson.Tickets available through www.ninjasexparty.com/tourFeb 10Astor TheatrePerth, WAFEB 12Enmore TheatreSydney, NSWFEB 14Tivoli TheatreBrisbane, QLDFEB 15Forum TheatreMelbourne, VICFEB 17PowerstationAuckland, NZ
Very excited to have Mr. Brian Wecht on today's podcast... who many of you know as Ninja Brian from the bands Ninja Sex Party and Star Bomb! We talk about their intense fans, Brian's ninja training and side gig as one of the Game Grumps! Is 'Zelda: Breath of the Wild' something Nintendo can top with an open world Metroid? How is the Steam Summer Sale like a drug dealer whispering to you from a seedy alley? Why did Brian walk away from a life of science before he could become Dr. Manhattan? And what nightmares keep me up at night? It's all on this episode of Geekscape!
We read the infamous NSP fanfic written by Ninja Brian, The Beej
This week, Drew brings us something dumb, but enjoyably dumb. Faux-80's rock and dick jokes abound in Ninja Sex Party's 2015 release "Attitude City". Will the guys incur the wrath of Ninja Brian with their reviews? We'll know soon.
