"Convenience is a lie because it doesn't save time. You might save time in that moment, but it steals your energy moments after." - Sarah BaylissIn this candid conversation, nutritional therapist Sarah Bayliss shares her journey from struggling with severe dyslexia throughout her education to finding her purpose in nutrition. After pushing through the educational system and landing in a high-stress marketing career that led to burnout, Sarah discovered the profound impact of proper nutrition on her health, which inspired a career change. Despite her learning challenges, she pursued a degree in nutritional therapy, even tackling biochemistry. Sarah explains how she helps clients understand that their environmental inputs - from food to sleep to relationships - directly impact their physical and mental function. She advocates for simple, intentional changes rather than quick fixes, emphasizing awareness of how daily choices affect long-term health.Do Nourish: How to eat for resilience - Paperback out now Key TakeawaysSarah's early diagnosis with severe dyslexia created educational challenges that framed her mindset as a "survival journey" rather than pursuing what she loved. After achieving success in marketing, Sarah experienced burnout and health issues that led her to discover the transformative power of nutrition.Despite her dyslexia, Sarah boldly pursued nutritional therapy education, including biochemistry, motivated by wanting her daughter to see her happy in her work.Sarah views symptoms as the body's communication system - signals that something is functionally not optimal that should be addressed rather than ignored. She emphasizes understanding how environmental inputs (food, sleep, light, movement, relationships) impact function, rather than just treating symptoms.Sarah cautions against "convenience" foods, which may save time in the moment but steal energy and health in the long run.Breaking out of "autopilot" requires self-awareness and connecting behaviors to deeper purpose - making small, consistent changes that accumulate over time.Rather than prescribing specific meal plans, Sarah helps clients develop awareness of their own habits and make sustainable changes within their capabilities. The gut microbiome is crucial for immunity and digestion - both fermented foods (probiotics) and fiber-rich foods (prebiotics) are important for gut health.Simple changes made consistently can have profound effects - adding one healthy choice daily equals 365 positive inputs per year. In this packed episode of the Wolves 77 Club, the lads break down Wolves' tough 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in a match filled with surprises and controversy. They discuss the unexpected lineup choices, including Rayan Aït-Nouri's deployment as a center-back, and analyze the mixed performances of young talents Pedro Lima and Rodrigo Gomes. The panel also delves into the ongoing saga with Morgan Gibbs-White, questioning whether Wolves fans crossed the line with their chants aimed at the former player. Despite the heated atmosphere, Gibbs-White had the last laugh, and his composed post-match comments earned respect. Transfer talk heats up with Agbadou's signing officially confirmed, and rumors swirl about potential additions, including Renato Veiga. The team debates whether Wolves' lack of squad depth, evident in their reliance on youth and fringe players, signals the need for more reinforcements in January. Attention shifts to the FA Cup as Wolves prepare to face Bristol City. With injuries mounting and survival in the Premier League the priority, the lads discuss whether Vítor Pereira will field a weakened side and the challenges posed by a 12 PM kickoff that fans can't watch on TV. To close, Harry reflects on completing 100 days of sobriety, sharing the challenges and rewards of the journey. The team offers their support and celebrates his achievement, contrasting it humorously with Bayliss' dedication to keeping the drinks flowing. Reinventing Healthcare, Four Women at a Time. In this powerful episode, I chat with Amy Louis-Bayliss, MD MSCP, and Lindsay Stollery Jephcott, two of four visionary women—three doctors and an entrepreneur—who unite to transform women's healthcare. Rather than rushing to build a business, they began by aligning their values and purpose, grounding their venture in a commitment to make a real impact. Through Lume Women + Health, they tackle a crucial, often overlooked need: personalized healthcare for women. They address menopause, sexual health, and overall wellness with a unique, preventive approach. At the same time, the episode examines the broader healthcare system's challenges and the toll on patients and front-line workers alike. It explores the idea that a fusion of private-sector innovation and a shared vision for accessible care could bring scalable, lasting change. This conversation offers an inspiring blend of entrepreneurial grit, health advocacy, and lessons in building purpose-driven partnerships. And their approach could change healthcare for the better across our country. To learn more about Lume Women + Health: https://lumewomenshealth.com

Today on the podcast we are joined by Dr Laura Carey and Caesar Bayliss from Perception Sport Download Mind Caddie for hundreds of short audio lessons and exercises produced by Karl and start improving your mental game the same way as six major champions: https://mindcaddie.onelink.me/7xjx/znldwgbi Laura has conducted some amazing research around putting over the past number of years in particular around gaze control and also brain activity prior to actually hitting the putt. What she has uncovered has the potential to transform the way putting is both learned and performed. Are you going to take ACTION and become a Certified Mind Factor coach? Join us for a wonderful three days in Manchester in November Get in touch at https://themindfactor.net/the-certification-course/ The conversation will REALLY get you thinking about the way you approach your game on the greens. In our time together we looked at: The difference in brain activity just before the stroke is made between successful and unsuccessful putters. Why doubt over the ball is so detrimental to performance How this increases brain activity which then compromises your stroke Why a line on the ball may not be the most effective strategy Why practicing with putting aids and gadgets can be of limited value The role of the eyes in supplying information for your putt The value of ‘quiet eye' Busy eyes make for a bust brain How to train to then perform Why you shouldn't just keep hitting putt after putt when you are training This is a really refreshing and far reaching conversation that could potentially apply to the whole of your game A lot of what Laura and Caesar had to say resonated with many of the ideas presented by Gary Nicol and myself in the Lost Art of Putting Caesar Bayliss has been a PGA professional for over 20 years and specializes in putting. He coaches at The Wisley and other venues across the UK Dr Laura Carey is a Lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland and a HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist. In part II, of this episode, I continue my discussion with Paul Bayliss, who experienced job-related depression when undertaking a massive transformation project for a large public sector organisation. A combination of the demands and high-pressure nature of the role with a toxic working environment and culture proved to be unsustainable. Finally, Paul was diagnosed with depression and signed off work but that was the beginning of another battle to acknowledge the condition and deal with his perceptions of failure and the impact on his career. Paul explains the importance of separating work and personal identity and emphasises the need to develop your own interests outside of work, whether it be going to the gym. hiking or charity work. When work becomes your only point of validation and identification as a person, when work isn't there or something changes, everything comes tumbling down.He shares his recovery process and how it involved therapy and lifestyle changes. He stresses the importance of being aware of the impact of external or environmental factors on your well-being and how maintaining a sense of self-awareness and being mindful is important to achieving a good work-life balance and is also crucial for mental and physical health and personal growth.
Data form the backbone of the scientific method, but it can be impenetrable. In the penultimate episode of this six-part Working Scientist podcast series about art-science collaborations, Julie Gould talks to artists and data visualisation specialists about how they interpret and present data in art forms ranging from music to basket weaving.Keep things simple wherever possible, agree Duncan Ross, chief data officer at the Times Higher Education publication, and James Bayliss, an interaction and visualisation analyst at Springer Nature. “My go-to tool is a pen and paper or coloured pencils,” says Bayliss. “Start slow and don't get too complicated too fast.”Akshat Rathi, a senior climate reporter at Bloomberg News, describes how he used data to visualise the devastating impact of a 2015 earthquake in Nepal for an article in the business title Quartz. And Nathalie Miebach, a basketware artist who created a reed sculpture based on daily weather data she had collected in Provincetown, Massachusetts, says that translating data into artwork brings up all sorts of biases and expectations. Finally, Rebecca Fiebrink, a classically-trained musician with a PhD in computer science who now works as professor at the Creative Computing Institute at the University of the Arts, London, agrees. “Any kind of data analysis itself is creative, right?” she asks. Each episode in this series concludes with a follow-up sponsored slot from the International Science Council (ISC). The ISC is seeking perspectives from science fiction authors on how science can meet societal challenges, ranging from climate change and food security to the disruption caused by artificial intelligence. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this two-part episode, I am joined by Paul (Drew) Bayliss, an accomplished professional with a long and successful career, who shares his experience of job-related depression when he was working for a large public sector organisation in a high-pressure and demanding transformation role. Depression in the workplace is a common issue among professionals, often attributed to long hours, demanding targets, and volatile bosses. Often, it is an organisation's culture and leadership that creates toxic working environments where employees can develop symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, problems with memory loss, and lack of concentration which in turn can contribute to depression. Like Paul, sometimes it is difficult to accept that you are suffering from depression feelings of failure, and embarrassment, and that your career is over all exacerbate the situation. Paul discusses the importance of overcoming the stigma of mental ill health and how the role of friends, family, and therapy is critical to recovery and the provision of a positive support system. Unfortunately, surprisingly few men actively seek help acknowledging and tackling depression which can often lead to more severe consequences if left undiagnosed and unmanaged.

SAS' Andy Bayliss works with life sciences manufacturers, applying AI and machine learning to improve their processes at scale. On this episode of the Health Pulse Podcast, he tells Alex that pharmaceutical manufacturers are experts at reliably delivering high-quality products. They must be because it's a highly regulated industry with a patient at the end of every product. The opportunity to utilize technology energizes Bayliss. Technology like sensors and computer vision allows continuous monitoring to spot trends and potential deviations earlier in pharmaceutical manufacturing. It's about giving the human expert additional insight to create meaningful action.
