Synopsis Iron Lung is about Markiplier in a submarine. That's the one thing that I can confidently say. there are a lot of other details, but none of them seem as salient. Sure all of the galaxy's, universe’s(?) suns have gone out, and there are factions of the remaining humans fighting for resources but that is really window dressing on Markiplier being in a submarine. Also, he's exploring an ocean of blood on some moon. Now you may ask me Bryce, how could they possibly functions as a society without a sun? How are they making new oxygen? Doesn't blood congeal or separate or something? how did they fine this moon without light? shut up nerd, Markilpier’s in a sub, now sit back and be scared. Review or Iron Lung before i go further, let me answer the main question first, yes this is better than Shelby Oaks. I will say that it's not as bad as I expected, but i wasn't blow. away either. The movie is basically all shot in one room, so that limitation let all the energy go into the story and the performance. It dod hold my attention for the most part, but it didn't deserve a two hour runtime. They could have edited out 40 mins and lose almost nothing. Markipliers performance was better than expected, but definitely leaned heavily into the melodramatic verging on overacting. The production design was well done except for the fact that it faithfully replicated the cartoonish UI of the video game, which I felt was a lazy choice. As far as delivering on suspense it did well. the movie was atmospheric and moody throughout. The ending goes full cosmic horror and feels like a good payoff. Score 4/10

Why are we still waiting for a green light from people who do not understand our craft? This reality is at the heart of our conversation with Andy Cochrane, a creative who has spent twenty years navigating the collapsing bridges of the entertainment industry. Andy takes us through the trenches of his career, from the grueling 70-hour weeks as a runner on CSI: Miami to the high-stakes visual effects world of Asylum and Terminator Salvation. We discuss the hard realization that being a "button pusher" in a massive pipeline is no longer a safe bet, and why the most vital work is now happening in the "weird stuff" between traditional film and immersive technology. The future of storytelling belongs to the tactical generalists who are willing to build their own labs rather than wait for a studio to discover them. We look at how Markiplier bypassed the traditional, expensive studio marketing machine by leveraging his own fanbase to bring Iron Lung to life, and why artist-driven projects like Everything Everywhere All at Once have become the new blueprint for success. Andy breaks down his current mission in Santa Monica, where he is bypassing traditional distribution models to create "Loud Movies," an open-source medium that prioritizes human experience over corporate commodification. It is a deep dive into why the most important tool in your kit isn't a new piece of software, but the willingness to keep moving while the building collapses around you. In this co-hosted episode, Travis Chappell and producer Eric dive into why treating a small audience like a massive one is the fastest way to long-term success. From Gary Vee's iconic “1 > 0” philosophy to Markiplier's creator journey, they unpack what it really means to respect people's attention, stop chasing vanity metrics, and show up consistently — even when the views feel small. This episode is a candid conversation about content creation, gratitude, and why every post is a lottery ticket. On this episode we talk about: Gary Vee's “one is greater than zero” mindset and why it matters for creators Why small audiences deserve the same effort as large ones How social media metrics can distort reality and kill momentum Treating attention as earned — not owed Why consistency beats perfection when building online Top 3 Takeaways One person paying attention is already a win. Treat every viewer, listener, or follower like they matter — because they do. Stop chasing viral moments and start building trust. Long-term growth comes from showing up consistently, not waiting for overnight success. Your real competition is everything else fighting for attention. Netflix, TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram are all competing for the same eyeballs — so respect your audience's time. Notable Quotes “The only way to get a massive audience is to treat your tiny audience like it's already massive.” “Behind every subscriber is a person living their life and willing to give you their time.” “Every post is a lottery ticket — it only takes one to change everything.” Connect with Travis Chappell: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travischappell Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/travischappell Other: https://travischappell.com Travis Makes Money is made possible by High Level – the All-In-One Sales & Marketing Platform built for agencies, by an agency. Travis Chappell and producer Eric break down YouTuber Markiplier's self-financed horror film Iron Lung, which grossed over $20M (7x its $3M budget) and topped box office charts—without Hollywood backing. Their casual chat celebrates indie success while roasting studio "slop," low actor pay, and why creators with audiences have a massive edge. On this episode we talk about: Iron Lung's unicorn success: $3M self-funded, zero marketing budget, #1 at box office vs. big studio flops Hollywood's shady side: Missing box office charts, low actor pay ($2-5K/episode after cuts), no royalties Creator advantages: Built-in audiences = free marketing; YouTubers like Radio Silence (A24 hits) proving the model Why constraints breed better art: Low stakes, passion projects outperform bloated $100M+ budgets Lessons for creators: Make what excites you; democratized access means anyone can bypass gatekeepers Top 3 Takeaways Existing audiences are the ultimate marketing hack—Markiplier's casual promo beat Hollywood's $50M+ spends. Low-budget passion projects often outperform high-stakes slop because creators prioritize art over profit. Hollywood's math sucks for most: After agents/taxes, "star" roles pay peanuts—build your own leverage first. Notable Quotes "Iron Lung... has already done over $20 million in the box office and has been the number one movie through the weekend." "They just write somebody else... [so] rather than look at it as giving me $2200 an episode, how much money are they putting into marketing the show?" "Stop making [content] like a chore... what would I want to record that would be like a shining light in my calendar?" Take a deep breath, because we're diving into a literal ocean of blood. This week, The Filmlosophers trade the podcast studio for a rusting, claustrophobic submarine to tackle one of the most unconventional video game adaptations yet. Hosts Eddie and Spencer, joined by Intern Sarah, plunge into the murky depths of Iron Lung, the highly anticipated feature film from YouTube titan Markiplier. The crew unpacks the visceral dread of navigating a doomed alien moon, debates whether the transition from let's-play tension to big-screen terror holds water, and shares their breathless reactions to the movie's relentless, pressure-cooker atmosphere. Once they finally resurface and gasp for air, the conversation pivots to a massive new topic handed down by Intern Manager/Managing Intern Amy. The team sets out to define the sweeping, boundless world of the "animated epic." The studio heats up as they try to nail down exactly what elevates an animated film into the realm of the truly epic, debating scale, emotional stakes, and whether the grand, ambitious animated masterpieces of the 1990s still reign supreme over today's sprawling digital sagas. It's an episode full of deep-sea dread, digital creator debuts, and animated arguments. So pull up a chair, grab your popcorn, and tune in to this week's "bloody ocean" of an episode of The Filmlosophers!

Check out Cam's latest novel / audio drama here! Iron Lung is a staggering work of indie horror, but we would argue that it's also an unconventional and hyper ambitious Faust fable, restaging the whole drama of Marlowe's classic deal-with-the-devil play inside a claustrophobic submarine stained with blood. In this episode, we're mapping Marlowe's characters onto Markiplier's minimalistic ensemble, laying out the terms of Simon's remixed Faustian bargain, and hunting for his oft-conjured but seldom seen Mephistopheles. It's Lynchian! It's Lovecraftian! It's positively Faustian! And here's the kicker, the film's ending takes on a whole new level of meaning and symbolism when interpreted through this lens! Let's dive into it! LINKS: Patreon, YouTube, Spotify, Instagram Feedback & Theories: secondbreakfastpod@gmail.com

Send us a textAngelo, Rhea, and Jay are back to discuss the NFL's dominating ratings through the regular season and the playoffs...right up to the Conference Championships, which were down around 7%. Will the lack of a big market team mean the ratings slide will continue or was it a momentary drop due to the bad weather last week? THEN, the gang talks about Markiplier's Iron Lung, a movie that he self-funded, self-distributed, directed, starred-in, produced, edited, and probably did the Craft Services on. It made a staggering $21 million at the box office this past weekend, and maybe just created a new paradigm for movies going forward. All that, PLUS: the canceled British series Press, the documentary Mel Brooks: The 99-Year-Old Man, a review off the Marvel series Wonder Man and much MUCH more!MAKE SURE TO VISIT OUR SPONSOR: Steven Singer Jewelers! The TV Show is a weekly podcast hosted by Jay Black, with regular guests Angelo Cataldi and Rhea Hughes.
