Magic Island Storytelling Theatre: Strange Tales From The Isle Of Arran: Ghost & fairy tales & more.
To bring to a climax this brief celebration of some of the horror stories we've done on the podcast (and ArranSound radio) over the last four years, here's a perfect story for Halloween itself. When I performed the first version of this story at the London Horror Festival, it was compared to the work of H. P. Lovecraft but the actual inspiration was a local legend, here in the south west of Scotland, of the "Haunted Ships" off the Galloway coast. This is a time of the year when, in Celtic lore, between the human world and the realm of the supernatural, whether embodied by ghosts or the Sidh (fairies) is thin indeed: hence this is the perfect Halloween tale.

Just because we're hearing somebody talk, it doesn't necessarily mean we are actually listening to them. We can often be eager to give our pre-calculated response, instead of listening with compassion and patience. The true essence of listening is a test of our humility. Whilst listening with humility we'll not only be able to just listen to someones words, but go even deeper and tap into their feelings and emotions. Listening in this way will guide us towards listening to the divine that is in constant communication with us. Through this, we can truly blossom.Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/QHM61UQ8zn4Listen on:Apple/Spotify/Google Podcasts: https://japjisahibpodcast.captivate.fmSoundCloud: https://on.soundcloud.com/fBhMQ00:00 Coming up in this episode00:00 Introduction00:47 How to pronounce Suniai02:44 What is listening? 16:45 Vaheguru is all encompassing22:30 Doing Naam Jap - taking the medicine without precaution 36:14 Thorns vs the smooth path - following intuition46:44 How to release you're not listening51:26 Attaining the status of those great beings - Suniai Sidh Pir Sur Naath53:35 Knowing how the creation is supported - Suniai Dharat Dhaval Akaas55:02 Knowing about the continents and worlds - Suniai Deep Lo Paataal56:12 Death cannot tou ch you - Suniai Pohi Na Sakai Kaal57:14 Always in bliss - Nanak Bhagtaa58:14 Destroying your sins through listening - Suniai Dookh Paap Ka Naas#Spirituality #Sikh #JapjiSahibPodcast

Translation in English : In answer to a question put by a Sidh, how the world has been created, Guru Nanak says: - The Eternal Divine – the One-in-All and the All-in-One in unison with His creation, (the thought from one to many) has brought into existence three vital functions that rule the Universe: The creative agent – Brahma. The feeder – Vishnu. The destroyer – Shiva. These three carry on their work according to His will, and the Eternal Law controlling the creation. They are not the masters of their own will. But the wonder is that He can see and realize all that is going on in His universe, but He Himself is beyond the realization of these three (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva). Therefore, let us rise above these three and bow down in complete devotion and humility to Him Who is the source of all matter and spirit. During that period of the Universe when everything was in flux and there was no created thing in existence, the idea came into the Eternal mind that I manifest myself into various forms. This thought (Mai) in conjunction with the Divine mind brought into being the three forces (Powers) that rule the world. (1) The creative (Brahma), (2) The feeding (Vishnu), (3) The destructive (Shiva). O Sidhs, we bow down in complete devotion and reverence to Him Who is ever existent, the source of all creation, ahs no colour and form, and is indestructible. He is beyond all changes through all the Yugas (The cycle of the world‟s creation). --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sant-teja-singh-ji/message

Those who desire occult powers become Sidhs, Pirs etc. and those who desire worldly greatness become Sheikhs (the head of the clan) or kings. By listening to the teachings of the Satguru with rapt attention and by controlling the mind from wandering away, one reaches the stage of Sidh – master of occult powers, Pir – the spiritual head of a community, surnath, or king of devtas – persons blessed with noble qualities and purity of mind. By listening to the holy words of the Satguru, the dwellers on this earth, the nether world and the worlds above gain all degrees of greatness. By listening to and drinking in deep the Divine name, the balance of the earth and whole universe above and below is maintained. The inhabitants of the seven continents, oceans and spheres, and the dwellers of the nether world attain various stages of higher life. Or the seven continents the upper and the lower worlds, go on doing their duty in their fixed spheres. By listening attentively to the teachings of the guru and drinking them deep in the mind one rises above the fear of death. Sayeth Nanak His devotees who meditate on His name, and drink in deep the nectar of the Divine life within, are filled with ecstasy and their faces beam with Divine joy. No pain or sin can touch them. They rise above all pain and sin. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sant-teja-singh-ji/message

Episode #100: Sandeep Dutt pays tribute to John Martyn, who inspired and enriched the lives of the children from the rural areas near Dehradun. Martyn was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1958, and 1983 Padma Shri, from the Government of India for his notable contributions to the establishment of The Doon School. In 1935, John Martyn accompanied Arthur Foot to India to establish the teaching staff of The Doon School, a newly opened boarding school for Indian boys. Martyn was at Doon for 31 years, thus becoming one of the longest-serving schoolmasters in the school's history. After he died in 1984, his wife Mady Martyn wrote a book about him entitled Martyn Sahib, the story of John Martyn of the Doon School. In his honour, his wife and Martyn's friends set up John Martyn Memorial Trust in a village at the foothills of the Himalayas called Salagaon. The trust runs a school for underprivileged children and provides free education to over 150 children. The past 37 years have been an incredible journey as the school witnessed the lives of many disadvantaged children transforming because of quality primary education. Since its inception, JMMS has grown from 25 students in a tent to 175 students in 7 classes from Nursery to grade 5. Most of these children are first-generation learners in their families. Apart from teaching, Martyn was very keen on mountaineering; in this podcast, Nibbrati Rathore of Learning Forward speaks with Parineeta Negi, the torchbearer of John Martyn Memorial School and is a proponent of John Martyn's vision. Parineeta Negi brings with her vast experience of teaching. She headed schools and has worked with NGOs like SIDH. Currently, she is the Principal of John Martyn Memorial School. “Teach them how to be—not how to appear to be.” Amazing education shouldn’t exist as a one-size-fits-all system according to Pawan Gupta. Pawan has been an advocate for quality education tailor-made for each unique community and every student. As the founder SIDH, an NGO based in the Himalayas of India, Pawan turned away from mainstream educational practices and built alternative schools and systems perfectly equipped for those they serve. Over 30 years ago, Pawan launched SIDH after realizing that the generic education taught to kids in rural India didn’t fit their actual needs. Today, Pawan and his team remain committed to designing schools that integrate the aspirations, ecology, demographics, and culture of these communities. He also writes and speaks worldwide on alternative education models and how other leaders can create similar successes. In this episode of the Leading with Genuine Care podcast, you’ll also learn: What alternative education models are How Pawan was inspired to start SIDH About education in rural India If rural vs. urban students should receive different educations Why Gandhi was so influential to Pawan What “truth” really means Why people do things that we don’t really want to do Why education is the key to our future What is externalism about The reality of uncertainty How a personal vision can be so impactful If we should embrace the gaps in our lives What happens when people appear as something they’re not Why we should teach kids to simply "be" How can we learn to be more genuine Why everyone tries to look smart What it means to be our authentic selves What is more important—a word or a meaning How to tap into intuition And so much more! With Special guests CoreyGeek (from the Geekspin Podcast) and Thomas Carpenter (from the High Frequency Kicks Podcast). Thomas brings in some new, strange music to our Podcast. You may not have heard of everything we cover in the episode, so check the links to each of the music videos and open your ears (and eyes) to some different music you need to check out, featuring traditional instruments with mainstream ones. (7:33) We lead the show off with Ninja Sex Party, an incredibly talented duo with impeccable musical chops. The first song is about their singer talking to the younger version of himself, featuring, you know, that kid from Stranger Things. Ninja Sex Party – Daddy Don't You Know https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT8cX2-_7pQ (9:28) And because the last song was such a great romp, we did one more from Ninja Sex Party called Mansion Party. Ninja Sex Party - Mansion Party https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNoafUU4Ikw Next is a spin off group of Ninja Sex Party, featuring some Rooster Teeth peeps. Star Bomb's song is about an inappropriate creep in Nintento's Zelda games. (19:16) Star Bomb – Best Zelda Rap Ever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0m9QUoW5KnY (23:52) And because we are nerds, we dove headlong into a talk about Zelda, and (28:04) talk about the Nintendo Switch. (31:52) Gregorian throat singing? Traditional instruments? The HU has all that and more, including a banging bass and drums and this beautifully shot video. The HU – Yuve Yuve Yu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4xZUr0BEfE (37:36) And because throat singing is so close to metal in some ways, we also watched their cover of Metallica. The HU - Sad But True https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpxA_ZxGX_M (39:32) SeanGeek and FastFret are both East Coasters and were raised on Celtic music, a love that Thomas has always had. So what happens when bagpipes mix with a sludgy sound? You get the Sidh. The Sidh – Iridium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amJ_WLmOKS0 (43:28) Next up is a Japanese band called Wagakki. They play traditional Japanese instruments, with lush production meshing with modern music, and insane visuals. This 8 person band features two drummers and a number of different stringed instruments and even a wind instrument that would slay any and every Kenny G. The video chosen shows just how big this band is and how insane the musicians are. Just look at that crowd. Wagakki – Homura + Akatsuki no Ito / 1st Japan Tour 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ponTbDDMYjw (53:04) SeanGeek adds his own to the list with his favorite all time performer, the funky That 1 Guy. Unconventional to the point that he built his own instrument called “The Magic Pipe”, this DYI instrument emulates a guitar, bass, drums, with tight songwriting and impeccable timing. That 1 Guy – Mustaches https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XHt32UVqLk (58:34) And because we did not get enough of Ninja Sex Party, we also watched one more from the guys called Welcome To My Parents, an ode to Danny Sexbang's sexy home (which happens to be his parent's house – because, duh, he still lives at home) and the stealthy Ninja Brian. Ninja Sex Party's - Welcome to my Parent's House https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YXUWWZJXpE (1:00:05) After this great offering of some great tunes, the gang discusses the failings of modern radio, and the 5 artists that get played, there is still some great music out there. The HU - Sad But True https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpxAZxGXM (39:32) SeanGeek and FastFret are both East Coasters and were raised on Celtic music, a love that Thomas has always had. These bands prove that you can still go out there and be original, and still make great music, regardless of how niche it may be. In this week’s episode, we take the podcast in a slightly different direction and dive into Isogenies - a topic at the cutting edge of cryptography. We look at how they are related to VDFs and randomness generation. Our guest, Luca de Feo (http://defeo.lu/), one of the co-inventor of SIDH, helps us get an understanding for what Isogenies - or morphisms of algebraic groups - really are.
