Episode 127 (04/28/21): Sometimes the book of Revelation can be so overwhelming that it is avoided; however, there is so much in what John writes in the book of Revelation that brings clarity to our day to day life in light of eternity. Back in 2013, I heard sermon by the pastor Judah Smith entitled “Keep It Clear”. As of 2021, I can not find this sermon anywhere on the internet… yet thankfully, one of my old iPods preserved the audio to this message which quickly became one of the most impactful sermons I've ever heard in my life. May this message grip your heart as it did mine those many years ago. Jesus. In the chaos and confusion, help us keep it clear... Music referenced in this episode: One Sonic Society, "Burn" (From the album: Forever Reign)
Do / did you have an elder in your life who set you up for success? Today on Good Company, we highlight what one man did for his younger brother to help him financially in his young-adulthood. Then we take a look at some clever church signs, and we hear about the lyrics of One Sonic Society's "Love Song". --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/goodcompanyfst/message See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.

What Kind of Music Should We Sing in Church?Music for this episode was provided by “The Passion HiFi” https://soundcloud.com/freehiphopbeatsforyouHave you ever hear Bethel Music? Maybe you have heard the song "Reckless Love." The likelihood is real high that you have at least heard some songs from Bethel. In this episode author Richard P. Moore talks about what kind of music we should and should NOT sing. He specifically deals with Bethel Music and Bethel Church in Redding, CA that spreads problematic theology.Richard mentioned His Book "DIVERGENT THEOLOGY" You can find it on Amazon Here https://amzn.to/2JkzcbERichard also mentioned the book by Ché Ahn “Modern Day Apostles: Operating in Your Apostolic Office and Anointing” https://www.amazon.com/Modern-Day-Apostles-Operating-Apostolic-Anointing-ebook/dp/B07HTLXTF6/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=modern+day+apostles&qid=1572466883&sr=8-1Ché Ahn, is the leader of and self proclaimed Apostle of Harvest International and leader of Wagner University the school founded by C. Peter Wagner the founder of the New Apostolic Reformation. In this book, it is clear that Ahn believes in the “office" of apostle, and mentions Bill Johnson as an influential leader in the New Apostolic Reformation and even names him a “General in the movement.Richard mentioned the “New Age book wrapped in Christian Theology” called “The Physics of Heaven” he wrote a book review of it herehttp://richardpmoore.blogspot.com/2019/02/the-physics-of-heaven-book-review.htmlThe reasons we should not sing Bethel music are…If we would not commend the books of a given group, we should not sing the songs of that group. It supports directly or indirectly the ministry and global impact and growth of Bethel and its teaching I wouldn’t recommend the Mormon Bible or Mormon teaching, or Jehovah’s witnesses or the Watchtower magazine or the JW translation of the Bible. I would neither recommend Mormon music or JW music for Christian worship. The Music of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is excellent, but I would not recommend it for Christian worship, because it is not Christian. Just like I cannot recommend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for Christian worship because the Mormon Church stands behind it, so also I cannot recommend Bethel Music because Bethel Church and its teaching, leadership and Apostle and Prophet Bill Johnson stand behind it.There is some good and some bad, and why should we make Worship leaders decide what is theologically good and what is theologically bad? For instance “Reckless Love” is a terrible description of God’s love, but there are other seemingly good songs from Bethel. So which ones should we choose? And can we make worship leaders (Usually not theologically trained) to make those difficult decisions? We shouldn’t sing Bethel Music because it could affect its hearers to engage with the teaching and the message that Bethel is communicating to thge world, namely the teaching of the New Apostolic Reformation (“What's the will of God? On earth as it is in heaven. If it exists there, it's supposed to exists here.” -Bill Johnson-)It financially supports Bethel: royalties, record sales, creating interest where others go and buy the music, and helping with overall popularityBethel music is a branch and ministry of Bethel Church in Redding, CA. Their music is wildly popular with Christians and sung often in churches worldwide. To give you a scope of the reach of Bethel music. One of their newer songs called “Reckless Love” is apparently the #1 used song with Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI). If anyone wants to display the words to any Christian song or sing it publicly they must have a CCLI license number and pay for that license yearly. Royalties are then paid to each artist according to the number of uses per year. That means that “Reckless Love” is the most sung, used, copied, or lyrically displayed song in Christian music right now. Conclusion, churches sing the song “Reckless Love” worldwide more than any other song. It also means that Bethel music and Cory Asbury (the writer of the song) are easily making millions.Author of “Divergent Theology,” Richard P. Moore wrote a blog about this song, because it is deeply disturbing to characterize God as “Reckless” in any way. Below is the link to the article. http://richardpmoore.blogspot.com/2018/06/is-gods-love-reckless.htmlFurthermore, 6 of the 12 songs on this CCLI list are associated with Bethel music, worship leaders, or artists, etc. Bethel is making big money on the royalties alone from CCLI and churches that buy licenses. Does the money that churches pay into CCLI support and benable the dubious and aberrant teachings, practices, and theology of Bethel Church and its leadersArius used songs and short tunes to spread his heretical Theology about the nature of Christ- here is an article on how Arius manipulated Doxology to manipulate and change Orthodoxy. https://www.johnsanidopoulos.com/2011/06/poisonous-songs-of-arius.html Below are a sample of the songs of Arius, which have been extracted from the writings of St. Athanasius: "And so God Himself, as he really is, is inexpressible to all. He alone has no equal, no one similar ('homoios'), and no one of the same glory. We call Him unbegotten, in contrast to him who by nature is begotten. We praise Him as without beginning, in contrast to him who has a beginning. We worship Him as timeless, in contrast to him who in time has come to exist. He who is without beginning made the Son a beginning of created things. He produced him as a son for Himself, by begetting him. He [the Son] has none of the distinct characteristics of God's own being ('kat' hypostasis') For he is not equal to, nor is he of the same being ('homoousios') as Him." Also Arius wrote a small song that went something like this…“There was a time when He (Jesus) was not.”Because orthodoxy is affected by doxology and doxology is affected by orthodoxyBecause you are overlooking hundreds of other artists and the creativity of your own church creatives in saying we are going to use other music outside our churchChristian Artists that Richard recommends…Worship artists: Matt Papa, Matt Boswell, Shane and Shane, Keith and Kristyn Getty, David Crowder Band, Seeker Servant The Silver pages, Celtic Worship, Keith Green, Aaron Shust, All Sons and Daughters, The Citizens, The Digital Age, Seed Family Worship, Young Oceans, Ascend the Hill, I Am They, Kenosis, Kings Kaleidoscope, The Modern Post, My Epic, One Sonic Society, Page Cxvi, Rend Collective, Rich Mullins, Rivers and Robots, Robbie Seay Band, Ross King, Sovereign Grace Music, Jon Foremen, Ascend The Hill, Bellarive, Indelible Grace Music, Loud Harp,Hip- Hop Artists: Trip Lee, Timothy Brindle, Tedashii, Stephen the Levite, Alert 312, Beautiful Eulogy, Braille, Odd Thomas, Sho Baraka, S.O., JSON, Hazakim, Andy Mineo, KB, Lecrae

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode #211 with guest Stu GThe 5-star-acclaimed, multi-artist Beatitudes album made its debut on Yahoo! Music and released to digital and physical retailers worldwide from Stugiology Music with management, marketing and distribution through The Fuel Music. The album, which showcases 18 new tracks (plus 2 bonus tracks) from multiple GRAMMY and Dove Award-winning artists, leaders in their respective genres of Christian/Worship music, is called “uplifting and inspiring” by Entertainment Weekly, is featured along with Sheryl Crow, Incubus, Lana Del Rey and others in Apple Music's April 21 newsletter, and is JesusFreakHideout's first 5-star review of 2017. Featured on the cover of the current Christian Musician magazine, and with a CCM Magazine cover story set for this month amidst other features and reviews, the Beatitudes album is part of The Beatitudes Project (www.thebeatitudesproject.com, #TheBeatitudesProject), which is also a book, Words From The Hill (An Invitation to the Unexpected) available now from NavPress, and a documentary film, View From the Hill, currently in production. It is the culmination of GRAMMY-nominated, Dove Award-winning musician, producer and author Stu Garrard's (Stu G) 15-year excavation of these “blessings at the bottom of life.” “The guitarist and songwriter Stu G has spent the last two decades traveling the world to understand how poverty, prostitution, drug addiction, and sex trafficking have afflicted society globally. But he's turned those learning experiences into something uplifting and inspiring,” writes Entertainment Weekly as Yahoo! Music lauds The Beatitudes Project as “inspired by a rock star's two decades of world travel, and his encounters with extreme wealth and even greater poverty – both physical and emotional.” Along his journey, Garrard met amazing, present day peacemakers in Israel and Palestine and writes about their stories in his “Peacemakers—Living in the Contested Space” chapter of Words From The Hill. The stories include those of Robi Damelin, an Israeli living in Tel Aviv whose son was killed by a Palestinian sniper in 2002, Israeli Roni Keidar, who sees rockets made from lampposts fall on her farmland, indiscriminately killing workers who are like family to her, Palestinian Daoud Nassar, a farmer who refuses to be a victim, refuses to hate, refuses to be an enemy, Palestinian Sami Awad, a Christian and founder of Holy Land Trust, and Todd Deatherage of The Telos Group, which works to equip Americans to build a transformative pro-Israeli, pro-Palestinian, pro-peace movement. “We have to walk into the conflicted spaces and face those things and say, ‘no, I'm going to create a new future, and a new story.' That's what peacemaking does,” says Garrard in a video featured on his Facebook page. Can you meet me in the middle where the light don't shineWhere there are no sidesBetween you and ICan you meet me in the middle cos we got to findFind another way(Beatitudes rock anthem “In The Middle” sung by Garrard) In addition to peacemakers, The Beatitudes Project reveals a wide world of connected stories: real people from all faiths and walks of life who embody mercy, poverty, meekness, the hungry and thirsty, the mourners, and the pure in heart—as seen, heard and experienced through a 21st century lens. Video stories behind several of the songs featured on the Beatitudes album are highlighted on Garrard's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/stugworld, including the songs featuring Amy Grant (“Morning Light”), Michael W. Smith (“Carry On”), Martin Smith (“Holy Troublemakers”), Hillsong UNITED (“The View from Here”), Matt Maher with additional vocals by Audrey Assad (“Oh Mercy”), John Mark McMillan (“Heaven Is Around Us”) and Propaganda (“Make A Little Trouble”). In addition to the artists aforementioned, featured on the Beatitudes album are All Sons & Daughters, Amanda Cook, The Brilliance, Anthony Skinner, Terrian Bass and Becky Harding. Collectively, these artists have sold more than 62 million records, won 11 Grammy, 90 Dove Awards and amassed dozens of hit songs and millions of followers on social media. “The Beatitudes Project is meant to be a reset button in a world plagued with violence and division,” says Garrard. “These upside-down Jesus announcements on a hillside by the Sea of Galilee in Matthew 5 where Jews, Greeks, Romans and people of all ethnicities were gathered are a reminder that there is another way.” About Stugiology Music:Stugiology Music is a record label formed by Stu Garrard, who is perhaps best-known as the guitarist / songwriter for the RIAA Certified Gold-selling, GRAMMY-nominated and Dove Award-winning British band Delirious?. Aaron Shust has achieved another first. The award-winning CMA artist has released his first live recording album, “Love Made a Way.”It is his eighth album overall. His label, Centricity Music, wanted the live recordings.“That’s petrifying,” he said. “There’s something inviting and welcoming about going into the studio, and if you make mistakes, you just do it again. And so there’s something exciting about a live record.”Shust’s awards include Songwriter of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards in 207 and Song of the Year for “My Savior My God.”However, with his background as a worship leader, live performances are his favorite part of the music process.“Writing and every part of the process has its own joy.”When worship music is performed with people who join in, “Heaven is listening to the praise. That makes the performance extra special.”Cameras were used to capture the making of the “Love Made a Way” CD. That in itself was daunting, Shust said, because he saw his facial expressions live. He also had just lost his voice the weekend before, but overcame that challenge.“I was trying to remember the chords.”The album was recorded in The Tracking Room, a Nashville icon located close to Music Row and where One Sonic Society filmed a black and white video. To differentiate the Shust recordings, his crew set up the stage on the opposite end of the room. Some of the songs are new, while others are Shust classics. The track list is: 1. Heartbeat (Live)2. My Hope is in You (Live)3. Belong (Live)4. You Redeem (Live)5. Ever Be (Live)6. God of Brilliant Lights (Live)7. Cornerstone (Live)8. Death Was Arrested (Live)9. Resurrecting (Live)10. My Savior My God (Live)11. Lead On (Live)“You Redeem” was the first single off the album.More information is at aaronshust.com.

And so there’s something exciting about a live record.” Shust’s awards include Songwriter of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards in 207 and Song of the Year for “My Savior My God.” However, with his background as a worship leader, live performances are his favorite part of the music process. “Writing and every part of the process has its own joy.” When worship music is performed with people who join in, “Heaven is listening to the praise. That makes the performance extra special.” Cameras were used to capture the making of the “Love Made a Way” CD. That in itself was daunting, Shust said, because he saw his facial expressions live. He also had just lost his voice the weekend before, but overcame that challenge. “I was trying to remember the chords.” The album was recorded in The Tracking Room, a Nashville icon located close to Music Row and where One Sonic Society filmed a black and white video. To differentiate the Shust recordings, his crew set up the stage on the opposite end of the room. Some of the songs are new, while others are Shust classics. The track list is: 1. Heartbeat (Live) 2. My Hope is in You (Live) 3. Belong (Live) 4. You Redeem (Live) 5. Ever Be (Live) 6. God of Brilliant Lights (Live) 7. Cornerstone (Live) 8. Death Was Arrested (Live) 9. Resurrecting (Live) 10. My Savior My God (Live) 11. Lead On (Live) “You Redeem” was the first single off the album. More information is at aaronshust.com.
In episode 76, Brenton sits down with guitar legend Stu Gerrard. Stu G is a guitarist, songwriter, producer and soon-to-be author. Stu is best known as the guitarist for the British band Delirious?, who, for nearly two decades, penned many of the best known worship songs in modern Christendom. He was also a member of the distinguished CompassionArt songwriters collective, which also boasted heavy-hitters Paul Baloche, Darlene Zschech, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Israel Houghton. Like countless wannabe rockstars, Stu G’s journey as a professional musician began in his bedroom, learning songs of his favorite bands - Queen, Rush, The Police, and Led Zeppelin. After studying at London’s Guitar Institute, he formed the Stuart David band, lighting up the London club scene in the late 80’s, before rebranding himself as The Treasure Park. Stu quickly emerged as a sought-after session guitarist, which eventually led him to a young Martin Smith, who was leading worship at youth outreach called “Cutting Edge”. The band changed its name to Delirious?, and after seventeen years and several world tours, they singlehandedly reinvented church music and the Christian entertainment-meets-worship experience. Stu is currently a member of One Sonic Society, with Jason Ingram and Paul Mabury, whose single “Forever Reign” has been a mainstay on the CCLI chart and Christian radio. In 2014, Stu recorded and released his first solo project Of Burdens, Birds, and Stars, citing musical influences as Radiohead, U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Manic Street Preachers, Nick Cave, Blonde Redhead and Elbow. When not touring with Michael W. Smith, Stu is writing, recording, speaking, leading worship and working with JHS on a custom line of guitar pedals. Stu lives in Nashville with his wife Karen, is writing his first book, and is always discovering new ways to express the truths he holds on to. “People are my energy and inspiration. It’s in people that I see why creation was such a good idea.” For more information on Stu, check out his website www.stugworld.com ⏪ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
I have a daughter who lacks focus. The more I think about it, the more I think she gets it from me. I read multiple books at once, stop my project at work to read the email that just came in, and get distracted by social media with the rest of them. But what if I slowed down and really unpacked ONE thought from Scripture? This is what happened for me this week as I used "Great Are You Lord" as sung by One Sonic Society to seek truth from God's Word. Hopefully I've raised a few questions this week to really get you thinking, too. On this episode I discuss: Getting "stuck" with where to go in Scripture Considering the truth that God's breath is in our lungs - Genesis 2:7 Biblical worldview Determining how the truth that God's breath is in our lungs will shape our worldview The idea that we are not significant because God needed us - we are significant because God wanted us A reference to Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem Analyzing what I pour out with the breath of God in my lungs An example of impacting culture using a Biblical worldview - Acts 17:16-31 Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture - our Bible Interaction Tool Exercise this week is: Meditate on Scripture Additional Resources Lyrics Story Behind the Song "Great Are You Lord" - New Release Today Article This Week's Challenge I give you permission to stay on one verse this week. Genesis 2:7 tells us that God himself placed His breath in our lungs. What is the significance of this? Each day this week stop at least once and consider your breath and ponder the idea that it came from God. Analyze what you breath out. Write it down. Use the song to incorporate breathing out worship to God. Need more? Read our story in Acts 17, or read Psalm 145, Psalm 96, or Psalm 48 and recognize that God is worthy of our praise.
