It's Summer time, which means graduations and vacation trips galore! All that most people keep asking is "Where are you going?" or "What's next?"Very natural questions to ask, but what if we applied this question spiritually?Do you know where your going...after this life? Is there an after-life? How can we know? And if there is, what does that mean for you today?I sat down with Young Adult Pastor, Wes Coleman, from McClendon Baptist Church to discuss just that. Man, life is short-we know that...but let's make sure we're making the "dash" count. Hymns are a treasure. Passed down via generations for hundreds of years, singing these songs remind us that we are part of a brotherhood and sisterhood of believers across time and space. Singing hymns invites us to worship with the choruses and lyrics that were sung by those that have come before us and yet experienced the same fundamental challenges that we do today. Let's explore the timeless theology of the Holy Spirit as we look at David Crowder Band's 1998 cover of Come Thou Fount, which was written in the 1700s. Part One:Paul and Scott pay tribute to ZZ Top's Dusty Hill, talk about bands with unchanging lineups, delve into the particulars of magnificent Songcraft beards, and take a closer look at Billboard's Christian music charts. Part Two:Our in-depth conversation with David CrowderABOUT DAVID CROWDER:David Crowder is a phenomenally successful singer, songwriter, and musician in Christian music. He first rose to prominence with The David Crowder Band, which introduced church communities to songs such as “O Praise Him,” “Here is Our King,” and “How He Loves,” which has earned nearly 60 million streams on Spotify. The five-time Grammy nominee began a genre-bending solo career under the mononymous stage name Crowder in 2012, and has released four albums and a string of Top 10 singles including “I Am,” “Come As You Are,” “Forgiven,” “All My Hope,” “Red Letters,” and “Let it Rain.” Other staples from the Crowder songbook include “Open Skies,” “Everything Glorious,” “This I Know,” and “I'm Leaning on You.” Crowder has collaborated with a range of artists, including Chris Tomlin, Tauren Wells, Riley Clemmons, Maverick City Music, Marty Stuart, and Emmylou Harris, and has earned 16 GMA Dove Awards. His most recent album, Milk & Honey hit #1 on the US Christian charts, and the lead single “Good God Almighty” became his first song to hit #1 on all four Billboard Christian music charts.
Award-winning songwriter, worship leader, and legendary beard grower: David Crowder has many titles. But before he was a respected icon in the church music world, Crowder was just a cowboy kid from Texas. In this episode of Trevor Talks, you'll hear the whole story. Crowder shares an honest autobiography covering a childhood full of country life, a family getting by on powdered government cheese, and the deeply devout faith that launched him onto the stages where he has now served the global Church for over two decades. Throughout this episode, you'll hear that of all the descriptions that could be applied to Crowder, perhaps the most accurate is simply “real.”Get Milk & Honey: SpotifyApple MusicFollow Crowder:Instagram: @crowderFacebook: Crowder MusicTwitter: @crowdermusicFor more Trevor Talks:SpotifyApple MusicGoogle PodcastsInstagramFacebook

What Kind of Music Should We Sing in Church?Music for this episode was provided by “The Passion HiFi” https://soundcloud.com/freehiphopbeatsforyouHave you ever hear Bethel Music? Maybe you have heard the song "Reckless Love." The likelihood is real high that you have at least heard some songs from Bethel. In this episode author Richard P. Moore talks about what kind of music we should and should NOT sing. He specifically deals with Bethel Music and Bethel Church in Redding, CA that spreads problematic theology.Richard mentioned His Book "DIVERGENT THEOLOGY" You can find it on Amazon Here https://amzn.to/2JkzcbERichard also mentioned the book by Ché Ahn “Modern Day Apostles: Operating in Your Apostolic Office and Anointing” https://www.amazon.com/Modern-Day-Apostles-Operating-Apostolic-Anointing-ebook/dp/B07HTLXTF6/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=modern+day+apostles&qid=1572466883&sr=8-1Ché Ahn, is the leader of and self proclaimed Apostle of Harvest International and leader of Wagner University the school founded by C. Peter Wagner the founder of the New Apostolic Reformation. In this book, it is clear that Ahn believes in the “office" of apostle, and mentions Bill Johnson as an influential leader in the New Apostolic Reformation and even names him a “General in the movement.Richard mentioned the “New Age book wrapped in Christian Theology” called “The Physics of Heaven” he wrote a book review of it herehttp://richardpmoore.blogspot.com/2019/02/the-physics-of-heaven-book-review.htmlThe reasons we should not sing Bethel music are…If we would not commend the books of a given group, we should not sing the songs of that group. It supports directly or indirectly the ministry and global impact and growth of Bethel and its teaching I wouldn’t recommend the Mormon Bible or Mormon teaching, or Jehovah’s witnesses or the Watchtower magazine or the JW translation of the Bible. I would neither recommend Mormon music or JW music for Christian worship. The Music of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is excellent, but I would not recommend it for Christian worship, because it is not Christian. Just like I cannot recommend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for Christian worship because the Mormon Church stands behind it, so also I cannot recommend Bethel Music because Bethel Church and its teaching, leadership and Apostle and Prophet Bill Johnson stand behind it.There is some good and some bad, and why should we make Worship leaders decide what is theologically good and what is theologically bad? For instance “Reckless Love” is a terrible description of God’s love, but there are other seemingly good songs from Bethel. So which ones should we choose? And can we make worship leaders (Usually not theologically trained) to make those difficult decisions? We shouldn’t sing Bethel Music because it could affect its hearers to engage with the teaching and the message that Bethel is communicating to thge world, namely the teaching of the New Apostolic Reformation (“What's the will of God? On earth as it is in heaven. If it exists there, it's supposed to exists here.” -Bill Johnson-)It financially supports Bethel: royalties, record sales, creating interest where others go and buy the music, and helping with overall popularityBethel music is a branch and ministry of Bethel Church in Redding, CA. Their music is wildly popular with Christians and sung often in churches worldwide. To give you a scope of the reach of Bethel music. One of their newer songs called “Reckless Love” is apparently the #1 used song with Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI). If anyone wants to display the words to any Christian song or sing it publicly they must have a CCLI license number and pay for that license yearly. Royalties are then paid to each artist according to the number of uses per year. That means that “Reckless Love” is the most sung, used, copied, or lyrically displayed song in Christian music right now. Conclusion, churches sing the song “Reckless Love” worldwide more than any other song. It also means that Bethel music and Cory Asbury (the writer of the song) are easily making millions.Author of “Divergent Theology,” Richard P. Moore wrote a blog about this song, because it is deeply disturbing to characterize God as “Reckless” in any way. Below is the link to the article. http://richardpmoore.blogspot.com/2018/06/is-gods-love-reckless.htmlFurthermore, 6 of the 12 songs on this CCLI list are associated with Bethel music, worship leaders, or artists, etc. Bethel is making big money on the royalties alone from CCLI and churches that buy licenses. Does the money that churches pay into CCLI support and benable the dubious and aberrant teachings, practices, and theology of Bethel Church and its leadersArius used songs and short tunes to spread his heretical Theology about the nature of Christ- here is an article on how Arius manipulated Doxology to manipulate and change Orthodoxy. https://www.johnsanidopoulos.com/2011/06/poisonous-songs-of-arius.html Below are a sample of the songs of Arius, which have been extracted from the writings of St. Athanasius: "And so God Himself, as he really is, is inexpressible to all. He alone has no equal, no one similar ('homoios'), and no one of the same glory. We call Him unbegotten, in contrast to him who by nature is begotten. We praise Him as without beginning, in contrast to him who has a beginning. We worship Him as timeless, in contrast to him who in time has come to exist. He who is without beginning made the Son a beginning of created things. He produced him as a son for Himself, by begetting him. He [the Son] has none of the distinct characteristics of God's own being ('kat' hypostasis') For he is not equal to, nor is he of the same being ('homoousios') as Him." Also Arius wrote a small song that went something like this…“There was a time when He (Jesus) was not.”Because orthodoxy is affected by doxology and doxology is affected by orthodoxyBecause you are overlooking hundreds of other artists and the creativity of your own church creatives in saying we are going to use other music outside our churchChristian Artists that Richard recommends…Worship artists: Matt Papa, Matt Boswell, Shane and Shane, Keith and Kristyn Getty, David Crowder Band, Seeker Servant The Silver pages, Celtic Worship, Keith Green, Aaron Shust, All Sons and Daughters, The Citizens, The Digital Age, Seed Family Worship, Young Oceans, Ascend the Hill, I Am They, Kenosis, Kings Kaleidoscope, The Modern Post, My Epic, One Sonic Society, Page Cxvi, Rend Collective, Rich Mullins, Rivers and Robots, Robbie Seay Band, Ross King, Sovereign Grace Music, Jon Foremen, Ascend The Hill, Bellarive, Indelible Grace Music, Loud Harp,Hip- Hop Artists: Trip Lee, Timothy Brindle, Tedashii, Stephen the Levite, Alert 312, Beautiful Eulogy, Braille, Odd Thomas, Sho Baraka, S.O., JSON, Hazakim, Andy Mineo, KB, Lecrae

David Crowder and Francesca Battistelli are Christian music artists trying their best to follow wherever God leads them to create, even if they end up somewhere unexpected. In 1996, while he was still a student at Baylor University, David and a few of his friends formed popular Christian rock and modern worship music group, The David Crowder*Band. The group went on to win numerous Gospel Music Association Dove Awards and were nominated for a GRAMMY. After 16 years together, and just having released the number 2 album in the world behind Adele, the band decided to part ways. Crowder went on to perform as a solo artist and has just released a new album called I Know a Ghost. Today David shares how his parents and growing up in church shaped his path, and how, through this latest album, he came to recognize the power of God’s spirit living inside each of us. Francesca Battistelli has been a recording artist for more than a decade, all the while touring and raising her young family. Today Francesca tells us about her Broadway musical background, how she strives to be a courageous example for her children, and why she’s thankful God sent her back to the drawing board more than forty times until she had written all the songs for her new album called Own It.
Crowder is on a mission to share God's love, using his music as a vehicle toward spreading the gospel. The solo performer, who formerly front-manned The David Crowder Band, recently told The Billy Hallowell Podcast that he believes Christians have a unique opportunity right now to make a real impact in the midst of a divided culture.
Former co-host Mark Rice returns for an old-fashioned episode including a Made You Listen segment, an Is It 5 Stars? segment about David Crowder Band's A Collision, and a long-form discussion about the history of the rock band Skillet. I spoke to Charlotte-based singer- and platinum selling songwriter John Mark McMillan just after releasing his 6thalbum and coming off a 35 City Tour in the USA to promote it. Many are familiar with his name especially after he wrote the song “How He Loves” and everyone from Kim Walker and Jesus Culture to the David Crowder Band, and Flyleaf covered the song. Years later churches around the globe are still singing that song week after week too. I was impacted by John Mark's incredible depth and tenderness – his vulnerability and profound grasp on the humanity of Jesus. I loved his thoughts on friendship and seeking out relationships with people who aren't like us… There's a potent segment of this interview on vulnerability too. And if you're a songwriter or a worship leader you will be challenged to hear him speak about his writing processes, honesty in worship music – and the song story behind ‘How He Loves”…

Join us this week on Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! when special guest Jonny Diaz drops by to talk about his new CD, Let It Fly. Jonny Diaz began his music career as worship leader for a youth group in Lakeland, FL. He released three independent projects before signing with INO Records in 2008. His label debut, “More Beautiful You” (2009), produced Diaz’s first hit single, the album’s title track, which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s AC Indicator chart and No. 2 on its Hot Christian Songs chart. The record’s momentum, combined with a self-titled follow-up album in 2011, paved the way for Diaz to perform alongside such notable Christian acts as Building 429, Matthew West, Steven Curtis Chapman, Mercy Me and Bebo Norman. Diaz signed with Centricity Music in October 2013 and released his first project with the label, Let It Fly, April 8, 2014. Let It Fly marks Diaz’s first collaboration with famed producers Jeff Pardo (Mandisa and Salvador) and Brent Milligan (Steven Curtis Chapman and David Crowder Band), showcasing an increased artistic confidence, as evidenced by new sounds and insights from the talented artist. Such growth is readily apparent to early critical consumers of Let It Fly, with CCM Magazine giving it a four-star review, calling the record “a work of art,” Hallels.com touting it as “a gripping affair,” and Soul-Audio.com exclaiming, “Diaz embarks on a path that sees him living out his gifts.”

In 2006, Hillsong United released United We Stand – a game-changing worship album that established Hillsong as a force unafraid to diversify, experiment, and otherwise challenge our expectations. 2013 seems to be the year they reinforce that image. Earlier this year, Hillsong United shook things up with the progressive and innovative arrangements of Zion. Now Hillsong Young & Free step into the action with their debut, We Are Young & Free (Live). The latest musical iteration from Hillsong Church have produced one of the more distinct sounds to come out of this local church in recent years. We Are Young & Free could be a game changer. We Are Young & Free is most definitely an anthem album. Party songs like “Alive” “Wake” and “In Sync” perfectly capture the current pop culture scene and offer a God glorifying alternative that this current youth generation has been waiting for.Musically this album is a bullseye: well-produced, thoughtful musicianship, and tasteful additions of EDM (electronic dance music) elements. Worship bands like the David Crowder Band and more recently, the Worship Central movement, have done a great job at incorporating electronic sounds and elements into their music, but never really knocking it out of the park and appealing more to a young adult demographic than to teenagers.Lyrically, all the basics of Christian theology are there; however, true to the Hillsong brand, an emphasis on God’s love and His grace is laced on every track of this album. It would be great if they departed more from the out-of-the-box worship lexicon, but the target audience isn’t likely to complain. And honestly, there could be worse things than giving your youth group something fresh, energetic, relevant. All in all, this is a stand-out disc that nails it for their target youth audience. We Are Young & Free will be a welcome addition to any iPod, pre-youth group music rotation or workout mix. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
