There are a few kiwi footballers to discuss from the weekend's footy around the world as well before we check in with Steven Adams in the NBA Playoffs and NBL basketball where Canterbury Rams and Auckland Tuatara lead the league, but youngster Jackson Ball keeps making waves with Hawkes Bay Hawks. Then we roll through a fun weekend for NZ Warriors who had wins in the NRL and NSW Cup vs Newcastle Knights, plus a Jersey Flegg Cup draw vs Knights. The Warriors Under 17 team have made the Harold Matthews Cup grand final for the second season in a row which seems notable. More disastrous football from Adelaide Untied - this time copping a thumping by bottom side, Perth Glory
Josh is subbed out for Tommy as he and Kelechi do a round up of all the fixtures from the weekend. In the NPLM the boys talk draws between Sorrento and Perth Glory, and Stirling and Perth, and ask what they mean for all four teams so early in the season and if the Azzuri are ready to challenge for the top 4 and league. The boys also talk about the very eventful match between Olympic Kingsway and Floreat Athena which saw Olympic run out 4-1 winners. In the NPLW the boys go over wins for Perth and Subiaco over Murdoch University Melville and UWA - Nedlands but naturally focus on the huge result at RedStar Arena where the NTC/FWA keep their momentum going. With the favourites for the league struggling to find form we ask if the NTC/FWA can steal a march on the season?
Josh and Kelechi discuss round 2 of the NPLM and a recap of the NPLW matches. Tommy gives us a rundown of the Perth V Freo game with a interview with Luca Hirninger. Josh was at Windy Hill and saw the NPL champions take on the State League Champions, with interviews from David Tough and Steve McGarry before Kelechi wraps up Perth RedStar v Armadale. The boys also wrap up Western Knight's late win against Balcatta, Sean McManus scoring against his old side where we saw a couple "naughty boys" at Floreat, and the Perth Glory youngsters taking it very personal. We finish with the NPLW where Daisy McAllister proved to be the difference against Fremantle while UWA-Nedlands gave Perth RedStar an almighty scare. All that and more!
Happy new season, everyone! Tommy is flying solo this week to look back on an exciting opening weekend of the NPLWA - Men's competition as he delves into Saturday's five game slate and has a couple of observations from Friday's season opener at Frank Drago Reserve. First of all, the replay of last season's Top Four Cup Final lived up to expectation in being an entertaining affair, as Champions Kingsway lay down an early marker but Stirling lose no admirers in a battle of two likely title contenders. Green Machine goal scorers Laat Mathiang and Jayden Gorman join us for a chat. Then, to a couple of eye-catching results from Round One, as Perth Glory and Perth SC record confidence-boosting wins. Kelechi comes off the bench for a cameo as he chats about the Italian derby at Dorrien Gardens and doesn't believe the score line truly reflected the game! Tommy then reflects on the Armadale versus Floreat goalless draw which he watched Sunday morning on x2 speed and saw one of the unluckiest misses of all time. There's a brief look at the 1-1 draw between Knights and RedStar, while there was several encouraging signs for Bayswater as they picked up a late 2-1 win over Night Series winners Sorrento FC on Friday. Remember to share us, like, rate, and review the podcast on Apple, Spotify, Google wherever you get your podcasts. We really do appreciate all your support whether you've been with us from the very start or you're jumping on board with the pod for the first time in 2025. Enjoy the football, the optimism and the joy that the new season brings and we'll see you all very soon! :)
The Perth Football Podcast is back in your earholes, as Josh and Tommy dive deep into the NPL WA Men's contenders for season 2025. TD has the goods, breaking down the ins and outs of the 12 clubs tackling for the title – and a spot in the new Australian Championship – with round one just around the corner. We ask are Bayswater City Spurs and Perth SC Manchester United (but with a better stadium being constructed)? Can Armadale lose the title of the entertainers, have we all learnt our lessons about the preseason when it comes to Balcatta and Floreat Athena and can Sorrento follow the trend of promoted teams making the top four? There's a new dawn for the Perth Glory and Fremantle City while Knights have loaded up on firepower at the front and for some strange reason we reckon it's a three team race this year! We also reveal our Enhance Health Group Enhancer of the Match from last week's State League and NPL Men's Night Series finals and preview the always spicy Balcatta-Perth clash in Friday's NPL Women's Night Series final.

With overseas territories from all over the world taking part, the Coupe de France is one of the world's most intriguing domestic football competitions. But who funds it? How do they decide who plays home and away? And could an overseas side play in a UEFA competition if they won the tournament. In Part 1, co-hosts Lee Wingate and Paul Watson answer all the key questions about the French Cup and reflect on their recent journey to the sleepy rural town of Saint-Mesmin to watch sixth-tier Saint-Méziéry play host to Tahitian cup winners AS Pirae in the seventh round of the tournament. Next up in Part 2: the world's most isolated clubs! There's a mention for Rapa Nui FC of Easter Island, who hosted the mighty Colo Colo in a 2009 Chilean Cup clash, Khabarovsk, who travel around 100,000km per season to fulfil their away fixtures in the Russian second tier, and Perth Glory, who cut an isolated figure in the Australian A-League. That's followed by the remarkable story of Papua New Guinea's exit from the Pacific Games and a look back at some other harsh tournament eliminations, including the coin toss at EURO 1968 and the madness of the 1994 Caribbean Cup, where goals briefly counted double! In the third and final segment, it's time for a round-up of the remaining stories. Erling Haaland paid for 200 fans of his first club, Bryne, to travel to Kristiansand for a play-off match, only for the Start groundsman to fail to turn on the undersoil heating and the game to be cancelled. There's cucumber throwing and so much more besides at the Mascot Olympics in Spain, which was won by Valencia's representative Amunt the Bat. And finally, two Tiktokers have bought and relocated Latvian second-division club Leevon Saldus with the aim of getting them promoted to the Virslīga.
