The North Queensland Cowboys have had a rocky start to 2025, sitting 9th on the NRL ladder. However, the Cowboys remain confident, with more than half the season left. Cowboy Coen Hess told Peter Psaltis on Wide World of Sports, "We still have the monkey on our back there for the first three weeks, but it was good." "The boys really dug deep, obviously trained the house down, and then it finally prevailed out on the field. And we're good enough to get four wins there." "We had a little hiccup at Magic Round, but, no better way to bounce back than here Saturday against Penrith," Hess continued. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dr. Daryl Holmes is the founder of 1300-Smiles which was the first listed dental company in Australia and was recently acquired. Daryl's idea was simple, yet brilliant, bring aging dental practices back up to speed through injecting them with brand-new equipment and state of the art systems and operating them under the one brand. In this episode of the Savvy Dentist Podcast, Daryl shares his lessons about business and life across the journey of the 1300-Smiles story. From the early days in partnership with another dentist … through to building out six practices of multiple chairs … to listing the business on the ASX and the process that entails … to managing a listed company. 1300-Smiles would become an icon in North Queensland and around Australia after Daryl successfully negotiated the naming rights to the North Queensland Cowboys' stadium. [2:31] - Where 1300-Smiles all began for Dr. Daryl Holmes. [12:46] - How to build a leadership team while you build your business. [20:57] - Keep your debt low, and your cash flow can fund your growth. The key to managing both is in your recruitment. [26:32] - How you can duplicate and build your own 1300-Smiles customer focused culture. [37:28] - Designing your business growth plan is step one. Dr. Holmes explains his philosophy on how to execute and floor your plan through to the end result. [44:39] - GSD … Get. Stuff. Done. The principle that changed it all for 1300-Smiles. [45:22] - Opportunities exist everywhere. Dr. Holmes explains where he sees the future growth opportunities within dentistry.
Jeannette is joined by the marvelous Jonathan Davies OBE, the legendary rugby player, to discuss his upbringing, career, and leadership experiences. Jonathan reflects on his humble beginnings in a small Welsh village, the challenges he faced, and the importance of mentors in his life. He shares insights on leadership, teamwork, and motivation, drawing parallels between sports and business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Building strong relationships and understanding people is crucial in both sports and business. Preparation and communication are key elements for success in leadership roles. Motivating a team in challenging situations requires instilling self-belief and maintaining a positive attitude. Teamwork and a common purpose are essential for achieving goals and success. Balancing skill and attitude when selecting team members is important, with attitude often taking precedence. BEST MOMENTS "I think it's always been kind of there in Wales. You know, having moved then up and realising it's very similar to North West and South Wales." "The bloke's attitude has got to be inclusive. He's with us or he's not. If he's not with us, that's going to be an issue for me." "In your business, I'd rather have a hole than a narsel." "I think the simpler it is, the more people understand it, then the easier the goal." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life.
