Auckland FC's Jake Girdwood-Reich hopes to break the heart of his younger self come the final whistle of tonight's A-League Men's Grand Final at Mt Smart. The Sydney-born defender signed with Sydney FC Youth at the age of 12 and won an Australia Cup with the Sky Blues in 2023. But tonight he's aiming to claim victory over his former side, as Auckland FC aim to make history and claim their first A-League title in their second-ever season. Girdwood-Reich downplayed the pressure of a Grand Final clash, telling Piney that while there'll be a couple more nerves in the changing room it's ultimately still a 90 minute football game. “Nothing should change for us.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Sydney FC v Auckland FC might not have been the A-League Men's grand final that fans expected, but history will be made regardless. The Sky Blues are hoping to be the first Australian team to win a title on New Zealand soil, and the Black Knights want to be the first Kiwi team to win it at all. Add to that the fact that the Knights are coached by a former Sydney FC legend? Spicy. In the AFL Scott Pendlebury will play game 433 but in case you missed it, there are other games too and some of them have serious significance. We've got a couple of interesting sets of numbers for you in this one.In this episode of the Music News, we kick things off with a look at the surge in popularity of heavy music in recent years. Attached to this data is the assertion that the state of the world is driving people back to the mosh. Correlation or causation? Moving from spike to slump, we then explore where Australia landed in the latest Global Music Report from the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry (IFPI). This year's report saw the Aussie market slide further down global rankings; and our modest year-on-year growth makes for uncomfortable reading. We round things off with an age old Homebrewed cloud-yell: Grand Final entertainment. In a win for Australian music, Gomeroi rapper Kobie Dee has been announced as the The A League Men's Grand Final entertainment. This follows the AFL's announcement that Kylie Minogue will perform at the biggest game of their season. We dive into why this is important and where other codes have been letting us down.
