Jannik Sinner captured his 22 career title on the indoor courts in Vienna and continued to prove that he's close to unbeatable indoors the past few years. Joao Fonseca, the young Brazilian teenage phenom won his first ATP 500 title in Basel last week defeating Davidovich Fokina in straight sets. Can he be a challenger to the Sinner and Alcaraz era? Jimmy talks about taking a photo with a young Swiss ball kid in Basel years ago who would turned out to be the great Roger Federer. Is the tennis season too long? With so many players quitting mid match late in the year makes us ask if the tours need to reconsider the schedule.
This week Erik and Aidan discuss a busy week of Tennis following the Asian Swing. With three ATP 250s, talent was spread out, giving some struggling players chances to succeed. In this episode, I'm talking about one of the most underrated ways to improve your volleyball skills — shadow drills. You don't need a ball, a court, or even a partner. Just you, your body, and the right movements.I'll explain why the best athletes in the world — like tennis pros Alcaraz and Sinner — swear by this type of training, and how volleyball players can use it to build better footwork, timing, and reactions. You'll also hear my favorite shadow drills for every position: receivers, setters, outside hitters, and middles. Each one will help you move faster, stay balanced, and play with more confidence when the real game begins. If you want to get smoother, more consistent, and game-ready — this episode is for you.

In an episode that was released as a video overnight for our Patreon backers, Ben and Tumaini catch up on the happenings of the tennis tours in China, including 204th-ranked Valentin Vacherot somehow winning ATP 1000 Shanghai, beating his first cousin Arthur Rinderknech in the title. Is it the most shocking title we can recall? We also discuss Zverev's much-mocked complaints about surfaces being rigged for Sinner and Alcaraz, the stellar seasons US women are having--but which has been best?--the Hall of Fame candidacies of Roger Federer, Juan Martin del Potro and Svetlana Kuznetsova, and an ode to Gael Monfils on the occasion of his retirement announcement. And then for something different, we discussed Tumaini's deep dive into how tennis players feel about their requirement to be woken up to pee in front of strangers. Thank you for listening! It's been a historic week on the ATP and WTA Tours! Join Joel and Kim on Tennis Weekly as they unpack all the headlines, starting with Valentine Vacherot's fairytale victory in Shanghai — the Monaco native becoming the lowest-ranked Masters 1000 champion in history after defeating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in an all-family final. The team debate whether this incredible underdog story is a great advert for tennis or a reflection of a congested ATP schedule. On the WTA side, Coco Gauff continues her hard-court dominance, powering past Jessica Pegula to win the Wuhan Open without dropping a set — extending her flawless 9–0 record in hard-court finals. There's also excitement ahead of the Million Dollar Point Slam launching at the Australian Open, as well as buzz around Carlos Alcaraz's new Nike logo, set to debut at the ATP Finals. Plus: Roger Federer reveals his five tennis GOATs (with a cheeky Djokovic nod), Joel's take on the Impossible Shot Challenge, and we preview Stockholm, Ningbo, and the blockbuster Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia featuring Alcaraz, Djokovic, and Sinner.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods.

On a special interview edition of Monday Match Analysis, Gill Gross is joined by former top-5 player Jimmy Arias to discuss the evolution of tennis and the modern game. One of the most fascinating things about tennis, is how it has continued to change over the years. I think we've reached a point where it's starting to become clear how 2020s tennis is going to be viewed as an evolution. It's one thing looking at Sinner and Alcaraz- that's only two players. It's when you start considering: Fils, Rune, Lehecka, Fonseca, Cobolli, and Draper… not to to say they're all the same. But you can start to see a prototype forming for the modern player of the mid to late 2020s. Catherine, David and Matt discuss titles for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as well as the opening stages of the WTA 1000 in Beijing. Part one - Men's results. We start by reacting to Alcaraz's triumph in Tokyo, despite an injury scare. Is this the best tennis of Alcaraz's career? We also discuss Alcaraz's decision to withdraw from Shanghai and the over-saturation of two week Masters 1000 events as the injuries and retirements pile up. Over in Beijing, Sinner experimented with his game en route to the title and Lorenzo Musetti got booed and was forced to apologise after a rant about Chinese fans. Part two - Women's results (54m). With the quarter-finals taking shape in Beijing, we cover Amanda Anisimova's comeback victory over Karolina Muchova, the impressive Eva Lys and Sonny Kartal, and some aggro in the match between Belinda Bencic and Coco Gauff. Part three - News (72m30s). There's chat about Gael Monfils announcing his farewell tour in 2026 before looking ahead to ATP Shanghai. Ben sits down with author Giri Nathan for this episode, to go deep into his new book, Changeover, and the Sinner-Alcaraz rivalry at its focus. This episode was recorded during the U.S. Open, but these two players remain the overwhelmingly obvious story in men's tennis, including this week as Sinner won Beijing while Alcaraz won Tokyo. We discuss the process of writing this book--which hopefully is particularly interesting to media folks--and also the ways in which Sinner and Alcaraz's dominance might be taking suspense out of the sport right now. Slightly condensed versions of this interview are also up on Bounces. Thank you for listening! Our Patreon is back up and running to ensure NCR keeps going and stays ad-free, and we hope you can join in supporting NCR! And we especially thank our GOAT backers: Pam Shriver and J. O'D. And please check out Ben's new writing home, Bounces! And buy Giri's book!!
On Monday Match Analysis, Gill Gross breaks down Carlos Alcaraz's 6-4 6-4 win over Taylor Fritz in the final of the Tokyo 500, which reversed the Laver Cup result from just over a week ago. We'll discuss how this recent run of form has turned Alcaraz's season into an all-timer, his use of the dropshot and backhand tactics. We'll also look at Fritz's attempt to replicate the Laver Cup match- where did this match deviate? Then, we'll get into the Shanghai Masters 1000 Preview. Alcaraz has pulled out but reigning champion Jannik Sinner and last year's finalist Novak Djokovic are both present. We'll go quarter-by-quarter in the draw and name dark horses, upset alerts, early popcorn matches and predictions.0:00 Intro1:00 Alcaraz 90 Percent2:20 Laver Cup Revenge4:20 Alcaraz Tactics9:10 Fritz's Attempt To Replicate19:10 Shanghai Intro22:35 De Minaur's Q30:47 Zverev's Q36:15 Djokovic's Q43:45 Sinner's Q48:22 Final Weekend IG: https://www.instagram.com/gillgross_/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@gill.gross24/7 Tennis Community on Discord: https://discord.gg/wW3WPqFTFJTwitter/X: https://twitter.com/Gill_GrossThe Draw newsletter, your one-stop-shop for the best tennis content on the internet every week: https://www.thedraw.tennis/subscribeBecome a member to support the channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvERpLl9dXH09fuNdbyiLQQ/joinEvans Brothers Coffee Roasters, the Official Coffee Of Monday Match Analysis... use code GILLGROSS25 for 25% off your first order: https://evansbrotherscoffee.com/collections/coffeeAUDIO PODCAST FEEDSSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5c3VXnLDVVgLfZuGk3yxIF?si=AQy9oRlZTACoGr5XS3s_ygItunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/monday-match-analysis/id1432259450?mt=2 Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
