There's a whiff in the air, a sniff perhaps.. and the tennis world is reeling. Our heroes main concern around Jannik Sinner's 3 month doping suspension- aside from the cries of foul play and uneven playing fields- are its potentially tarnishing impact on our beloved Aussie Open.Staying positive. Kyrie Irving is welcomed back to the Grapple fold, after his decision to become a Boomer. We'll forgive him for calling him 'Team Australia,' for now, so long as he brings home a medal (at age 36) from the LA games. While Ange Postecoglou never left the Grapple fold, and will have the full might of our opinions in his corner should any kind of unthinkable action be taken on his English Premier League coaching career. The NRL trials gave us all we needed to know about the thinking of the majority of NRL coaches- with Madge Magguire, Kristian Woolf, Todd Payten, Craig Fitzgibbon, Jason Ryles- among others- very much showing their hands ahead of the season proper. We'll run the rule over the various choices and raise eyebrows accordingly, while pondering the decision of major free to air broadcasters to NOT send commentary teams to Las Vegas. While at it, our heroes have a pitch to Peter V'Landys around the scheduling of the NRL All Stars fixtures, after they apparently played out last weekend. And just in case you forgot, Super Rugby is BACK, and the QLD Reds have signed a schoolboy with a bugger of a name to pronounce, but we should all know it, on account of his 120kg, 17 year old frame. Hat tip to what our heroes descibe as 'a return to the golden days' for the code. Tune in and find out why,Like, Share, Subscribe, and most of all- DIG IT.

We could have taken the easy way out and made this two episodes to chip away at our goal of 26 for the year, but instead here's two and a half hours of listening spanning four topics. We open with a chat about sanity prevailing at Sandringham with the men's and women's Aussie Opens to be contested separately again from 2025 after a failed three-year experiment co-sanctioning the two. Where to for both tournaments after so much damage was done to their standing? The main event is an hour-long deep dive on Commonwealth Golf Club in Melbourne, which has experienced an absolute renaissance thanks to a full course rebuild by Brian Slawnik. Scott and Matt were both crestfallen by what had become of Commo before the facelift and could not be more boyant about the club's future now with the course brought back to its best. If you want even more Commo content, head back to Ep 55, and immediate reaction which we recorded just an hour or so after throwing our clubs in the boot after our round. And on top of that we have a chat with Eric from The Fliers Club, one of the many new-millennium golf societies that has brought passionate golfers together, and in this case on a bucket list trip to the great courses of Australia. And finally, we've enjoyed talking golf balls so much with Dean Klatt from Seed since he came on board as a sponsor of the pod that we asked him to come for a chat on air about how and why he founded Seed, how you even go about designing your own golf balls, the work that's already underway at Seed to prepare for the coming rollback, and more.Seed Golf has provided an introductory 20% off for listeners to Australian Golf Passport.  Head to https://seedgolf.com.au/and enter AGP at checkout to get your hands on some premium golf balls at a super low price point.  Thanks so much to Dean and all at Seed. On deck: (6:49) Football fans! The NFL playoffs are just about here! I'll preview all of what Wild Card Weekend will have to offer, with plenty of huge storylines and go through all of the games with analysis and predictions to get you ready for six games over three days. Is Lamar Jackson & Josh Allen under the most pressure? What about Mike Tomlin? The health of Jalen Hurts? The psyche on the Vikings? All of those will be answered and an update on the latest head coach firings in the sport. (40:25) The college football playoff resumes over the next couple of nights. Similar to the NFL, I'll break down the key points of both games (Notre Dame-Penn St. and Ohio St.-Texas) and ask the bigger question, is this Ohio State's title to lose? Also, what is the National Championship game that the world wants to see? (51:54) Are you sold on the Cleveland Cavaliers being an NBA title contender? They snapped the 15 game winning streak of the OKC Thunder last night and now are in the middle of an eleven game win streak. Do you need to see more? I'll keep you posted on some big returns (I.e. Zion Williamson and Paolo Banchero) and one big injury (Kyrie Irving) and what else is happening on the hard court. (1:02:02)The NHL will have two outdoor games scheduled for next January and February, both of those contests…in Florida? I'll dissect the Rangers visiting Miami to play in loanDepot Park (aka Marlins Park) and the Lightning hosting the Bruins in Raymond James Stadium (the Buccaneers home stadium) as they were granted dates to be played under sunshine and palm trees? I'll check the schedule over the weekend and keep you abreast of what's going on throughout the league. (1:11:11) Baseball is rather quiet with just a few transactions to discuss, that don't include Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman, Anthony Santander, Tanner Scott, etc. There was a sad passing as former Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz died at the age of 37. (1:13:19) Tennis is back in our consciousness as the first Grand Slam tournament of the year (the Australian Open) is just about here. Will Carlos Alcaraz complete his career slam? Can Jannik Sinner go back to back Aussie titles? What about Aryna Sabalenka going for a three peat down under? Is Iga Swiatek ready to claim her status of #1 woman in the world? You'll get my thoughts on all of the above as we usher in another sport to the podcast over the next two weeks. Kicking off season 6 with a bang as we head down under to preview the 2025 Australian Open. We look at the odds for the favorites to win on both the men's and women's side. Naomi Osaka was forced to retire up a set in the finals of Auckland on Sunday, but Jimmy is optimistic about her comeback to the game. Can she return to her major winning ways in 2025? Coco Gauff defeated Iga Swiatek and helped propel team USA to a win at the United Cup last week. That's 2 wins in a row for Gauff against Swiatek who had dominated their head to head up to that point, what has Coco figured out? Alexander Bublik made some comments this week about the "circus" surrounding Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal's retirements. Hideki Matsuyama broke the PGA record for lowest score ever in an event by posting -35 to win The Sentry in Kapalua over the weekend. Could this mean a 2nd green jacket could be in order later this year at the Masters for the Japanese player?
