When you go to a stadium in Australia or even just a local footy match - singing, chanting and war cries are not uncommon. We've all been there - and experienced the power, that feeling, of people coming together and singing.  In Britain is also the case for live orchestra events. But in Australia, this is unheard of.  Enter Bourby Webster a pom from rural UK, who trained in classical live music at Oxford University and is now determined to change the zeitgeist around live orchestral performances in rural and regional Australia.  When Bourby moved to Perth - it was for love. There was no thought, nor ambition to change the culture of music in Australia.  But when her relationship failed…She looked around her and noticed a huge gaping hole in the culture of Australian orchestra.  Her idea was to try and recreate the British model of touring a symphony orchestra to regional communities and so she created the Perth Symphony Orchestra; music for everyone, anywhere.  People laughed. Asked if she was joking? ‘This is impossible, people won't travel to come to an event like this' They don't need it, they don't want it. There's no doubt she's been up against it. There's a huge cultural ‘cringe' to overcome. Australia's number 1 startup podcast talks with former Western Australian of the Year, Bourby Webster, founder of the Perth Symphony Orchestra, who recently stepped away from the CEO role, after 13 years. Growing up in the English countryside, she was exposed to orchestral music from a young age, played viola, and went to Oxford University, where she also got into rowing as a coxswain. Moving to Perth, she did an MBA, worked for an engineering firm, and wondered why there was only one symphony orchestra whereas in Manchester, England - with less than a third of Perth's population - there are four. Setting up an orchestra - with its insanely hard business model - was tough. She received no government funding for ten years, and had to sell out every concert just to survive. ‘The orchestra that breaks the rules' plays everything from Nirvana to INXS to Mozart to Chopin, and is intent on ‘taking music to the people'. Australian/American soprano, Amy Manford most recently performed the role of ‘Christine Daaé' in Andrew Lloyd Webber's original production of The Phantom of the Opera on the West End before a short stint in Greece in the same role. Prior to her West End debut, Amy had performed internationally as a soloist with the London Handel, London Cello and the Perth Symphony Orchestra's. She had also sung at iconic venues such as the Seoul Arts Center in South Korea and at Buckingham Palace for the Prince of Wales. She was especially honoured to sing the Australian Anthem for HRH Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle for the 2018 Anzac Day Memorial Service in London. In 2017, Amy graduated with a Master of Performance from the prestigious Royal College of Music where she was lucky enough to perform numerous title roles with their International Opera School. Before moving to London, Amy had graduated with a Bachelor of Music at The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in her hometown, Perth. Trumpeter Adrian Kelly has built an international career as a multi-faceted musician; performing, recording, and writing pop, classical, and jazz music. Adrian is currently working towards a PhD at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts where he researches adapting acting methods to trumpet playing and as part of that research he has released a set of etudes available from QPress Music.  Adrian’s jazz quartet has performed in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia and his jazz compositions have been performed and recorded by artists around the world. His quartet has released two albums in 2020. The first, "Visions", is a suite of pieces for improvising quartet written to accompany the visual art of Robert John Kelly (Adrian's father). The second album, Cry, "Wolf!", is an album of music featuring an artificial intelligence 'improviser' along with an electric jazz quartet. Adrian’s freelance playing includes being a member of Motown legend Bobby Taylors band, international tours with Chinese pop superstar Jacky Cheung, as well as other eastern and western artists such as Hugh Jackman, Ray Charles, Shirley Bassey, and The Four Tops.  In his capacity as a classical trumpeter, Adrian held the position of principal trumpet with The City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong from 2011 - 2015, has performed as principal trumpet with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and continues to perform regularly with the Perth Symphony Orchestra, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, and theWA Philharmonic. Adrian has performed on more than thirty musical theatre productions since 2005 and is a Yamaha performing artist.

Starting out in the jazz clubs of Minneapolis & New York City, Carly has fronted bands of all kinds, from small jazz ensembles, high-end Corporate Events Bands, to the all-female world music group Angaza. In concert, she performed at the Sydney Opera House in the spring of 2014 as a soloist with “The Music of Queen-A Rock and Symphonic Spectacular” and The Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She has also taken the stage with The Perth Symphony Orchestra and The Richmond Symphony Orchestra. Much to her delight, Carly recently got back to her jazz roots, singing with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra as a Guest Artist for their concert series “A Night at the Movies.”Her voice can also been heard in many films, most notably the Kevin Hart film Ride Or Die with the song “In Time,” which she also co-wrote.
