I know I'm still horribly behind on the monthly mixes here on Podomatic (you can stream the newer ones on Mixcloud ;-) but figured it made sense for the holiday season to jump ahead and post my "A Soul Shack Christmas (aka "Christmas Cocktails 2024)" mix, so it can be enjoyed over the holidays.I really didn't think I was going to be able to make a 2024 edition, but determined, I found a way! I recorded about 2hrs in my headphones on a 2nd setup during dinner at Alexie's winter formal Thursday night, then about 1.5hrs of the mix that I knew I could get away with at my gig at STK Friday night, then Saturday morning recorded the other hour or so, and then put it all together!Knowing I wasn't recording it live, this one musically is more like a "Soul Shack Christmas" really and is definitely more for people my age (so much retro!). I'm really happy with this year's edition, but listen for yourself.I truly hope this mix bring a little extra joy to your holidays, soundtracks special moments with friends & family and I hope you all stay healthy & safe this holiday season.IG: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meSubscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245

Ugh, I'm so behind on posting mixes on Podomatic. Please note that I'm up to date on Mixcloud if you want to listen to the new mixes (while I catch up here)Here is my annual lounge music recap from the past year. Usually it's the February mix, but this year I'm a month behind because the 18yr Anniversary mix got pushed to January, and the house recap became February. Anyway, this is all the non-house stuff, filled with nudisco, daytime disco, amapiano, kaytranada type beats, retro remixes, boogie edits, rn'b, hip hop...all the good stuff (and then some "end of the night" vibes to finish it off). Not all necessarily released in 2023, but I discovered the songs in 2023.So fix yourself a drink, sit back and enjoy the vibes (or lets be real, throw it on in the background while working or doing your household chores lol!)Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meBookings & Merch: jamiewichartz @ yahoo.ca

I knew Dave Galvan as a friend and bandmate for many years before I learned that he grew up in a strict Pentecostal church. And I learned in this episode that Dave led worship with a black Les Paul copy at that church. Epic. When you know people outside of religion, you can just live and enjoy life, so I was a little anxious making Dave go back through his early days, but that's what bandmates do. We go on each other's podcasts and talk about depressing shit. For the first time I'm including music Dave and I did with our old band, Band Moto. So be warned. Pop culture is full of fictional bands singing songs purpose-made to capture a moment, a sound. This music doesn't organically emerge from a scene or genre, hoping to find an audience. Instead it fulfills an assignment: it needs to be 1960s folk music, 1970s guitar rock, 80s hair metal, 90s gangsta rap, and on and on. In this episode, we're going to use ‘Stereophonic,' which just opened on Broadway, as a kind of case study in how to construct songs like this. The playwright David Adjmi and his collaborator, Will Butler formerly of the band Arcade Fire, will walk us through how they did it. How they made music that needs to capture the past, but wants to speak to the present; that has to work dramatically but hopes to stand on its own; that must be plausible, but aspires to be something even more.  The band in Stereophonic includes Sarah Pidgeon, Tom Pecinka, Juliana Canfield, Will Brill, and Chris Stack. Stereophonic is now playing on Broadway—and the cast album will be out May 10. Thank you to Daniel Aukin, Marie Bshara, and Blake Zidell and Nate Sloan.  This episode was produced by Max Freedman and edited by Evan Chung, who produce the show with Katie Shepherd. Music is entertaining enough all by its lonesome. But the narrative histories of our favorite bands are often pretty compelling, as well. So Hollywood often dramatizes the stories of bands that don't really exist in order to tell similar stories. But since you can't tell a nonexistent band's tale without actual music to back it up, you sorta need to fill that gap with legit compositions and real-life performances. Enter the "Fake Band"; i.e., a musical project that exists in the liminal spaces between fictional and factual existence, but that's still more or less obligated to somehow produce real music. In this edition of FYF, Saint and Jim take a look at some of the best not-exactly-real-but-still-kinda groups in entertainment history, as well as the (often great) music they put out.

Luke Dunkin is one of the more recognizable names / faces / voices in bass fishing. Be that from his years as a pro, his announcing on the NPFL, or his super successful video and audio podcast. Or perhaps it's because he's never been one to steer away from controversy. From our perspective, his affinity for controversy is more so just an honest dude sorta calling it how he sees it and a lot of people don't see that too often anymore. What we believe here at Tackle and Tacos is that Luke shares and says what he feels and believes to be true with little to no care about what other people think. Even if you don't always agree with the dude, you have to admit that's pretty dang refreshing. We spoke with Luke for a couple hours and tackled everything from music to kids, to tacos of course, to Luke almost being a chef, music, what makes a good podcast and of course a little bit of fishing. POSITIVITY IS WORTH THE EFFORT warning - about half of Jordan's and Lola's vocals were attacked by gremlins and sound weird. I'm bringing back the Cottage Mix Series for 2023! July (it was posted earlier on Mixcloud) is the Friday Night Edition, recorded live at a "Retro Attic" party, where all of the song selections had to be at least 10 years old, so nothing but throwbacks! Recording it live at a gig like this I had to keep it pretty mainstream, so no obscure gems here, but definitely some guilty pleasures lol! (Next up will be a new Saturday Afternoon edition which is already available on Mixcloud, and then there will be a Saturday Night Edition, a Sunday Morning Edition and a new Summer Home in Mykonos Edition too!)Hope you enjoy! Here is my annual lounge music recap from the past year. Usually it's the February mix, but this year I split the House Music recap over January & February. For the lounge music recap it's got lots of re-edits and reworks, a few acapella blends, indie-pop, nudisco vibes, amapiano, kaytranada type beats, retro remixes and all that goodness (and then some "end of the night" vibes to finish it off). Not all necessarily released in 2022, but I discovered (or in the case of one song, rediscovered) the songs in 2022.So fix yourself a drink, sit back and enjoy the vibes (or lets be real, throw it on in the background while working or doing your household chores lol!)Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id306968245Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dj_j_meBookings & Merch: jamiewichartz @ yahoo.ca(and if you want to hear these mixes earlier, you can stream them on Mixcloud)

Sometimes, we all say things, unfortunately, that can make people judge us negatively.Today, I'm gonna give you five phrases that will make you come across as lacking in confidence and what you can say instead to not come across that way. The first phrase is "Obviously." Also related to "Obviously" is, "Oh, that's not hard to tell" or "I already knew that." If you find yourself saying this after someone has told you something that they thought was novel and interesting to you, you are essentially dismissing what they said. You're saying, "Your perspective has nothing new to add. I already knew that. It was so obvious to me and I am so smart for having known this before you told me." Now, what should you do in the scenarios where someone is telling you something that you already knew? You put yourself on the same path as them; you are two learners. This is the topic we're discussing in this week's episode.Listen & Enjoy!
