Roasted vegetables, wonderful bread, and cheese. It sounds straightforward, and it is, in a way. How the parts intermarry, though, is what makes these panini so very good. If you haven't roasted the vegetables ahead of time, roast them all at once, on the same baking sheet. Be sure to keep on eye on them, though, and remove each one as it is done.

Send us a Text Message. In this episode of the Wood Fired Oven podcast, join me as I embark on an early evening walk through Rome, weaving through bustling streets en route to the legendary Bonci Pizzarium. Founded by Gabriele Bonci, this pizzeria is celebrated for revolutionizing Rome's pizza scene with its unique "pizza al taglio" or pizza by the slice. Along the way, I'll share a few unexpected surprises and insights into the city's rich cultural backdrop, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. At Bonci Pizzarium, the pizza al taglio style comes to life. Characterised by its thick, airy, and slightly crispy crust, this pizza is baked in large rectangular trays and sold by weight. This method allows patrons to specify the exact size of their slice, which is then cut with scissors—a stark contrast to traditional round Neapolitan pizzas. Prepare to be captivated by the creativity and craftsmanship of their renowned chefs, who masterfully combine unconventional toppings like sausage with pear, leeks with Gorgonzola, and more. Each slice is not just food; it's a narrative of passion and innovation. This episode is more than a simple food tour; it's an inspiration-packed journey that highlights the innovative spirit of Roman pizza artistry, igniting ideas for my own cooking adventures in my wood fired oven back home in Brisbane, Australia. Join me for an adventure through Rome that blends cultural exploration with culinary discovery at one of the city's most celebrated pizzerias.Support the Show.Become a Supporter of the showPlease consider supporting the Wood Fired Oven Podcast. Nick and Angela welcome one of the world's favourite actors to Christmas dinner at Casa Grimshaw. Florence Pugh comes from a family of performers and cooks, so it's no surprise that she has mastered both. Her first big role came in 2016, when she played Katherine in Lady Macbeth and by 2020 she was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress as Amy March in Little Women. In 2023 Florence starred in and exec produced A Good Person with Morgan Freeman and starred in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. In 2024 we will see her in the highly anticipated Dune 2. Florence loves food and has her own YouTube channel, Cooking with Flo, where her fans can watch her make her favourite meals. Angela has created a wonderful Christmas menu for Waitrose and you can find all the details and her tips and tricks in Waitrose Food magazine online or in store. Angela prepares a pear, Gorgonzola and red chicory salad to start, followed by roast turkey with rosemary, thyme and lemon butter with an apricot, sausage, sage and almond stuffing. On the side are all the trimmings: roast potatoes with confit garlic, spiced cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, Brussels sprouts with hazelnut pangrattato and orange and honey-glazed carrots. And they finish with Florence's favourite dessert, tiramisu. Nick and Florence make cocktails to start and our trio enjoy a Fenaroli Pecorino Superiore and a Villa Antinori Rosso over dinner. The experts at Waitrose also recommend a Waitrose Champagne blanc de noir, which goes perfectly with this Christmas spread. Florence Pugh is the consummate Christmas dinner party guest, arriving with a gift and her slippers which she dons before dinner. Talk at the table turns to Christmas traditions in the Pugh household, why Florence finds bed scenes so challenging - and listen out for a hilarious hosting mishap from Nick Grimshaw. Just so you know, our podcast might contain the occasional mild swear word or adult theme. All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes A transcript for this episode can be found at waitrose.com/dish We can't all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. The store is located in Rottenburg am Neckar, in southern Germany. The owner of the store, Thomas Micolino, likes to create different flavors of ice cream that are not the typical ones like chocolate or strawberry. In the past, he has made ice cream with liver sausage and Gorgonzola cheese, and even gold-plated ice cream that costs €4 ($4.25) per scoop. Micolino wanted to try something new and different, so he decided to make ice cream with crickets. He used cricket flour, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and honey to make the ice cream, and put dried whole crickets on top. He said that the ice cream has a yummy taste, but some people are disgusted by the idea of eating insects. The reason that Micolino can make ice cream with crickets is because of a law in the European Union that allows people to use insects in food. The law says that crickets can be frozen, dried, or used as a powder. The European Union has already approved using migratory locusts and flour beetle larvae in food. Some customers like the new flavor of ice cream and say that it is delicious. Konstantin Dick, one of Micolino's customers, said that the ice cream is very tasty and edible. Another customer, Johann Peter Schwarze, liked the creamy consistency of the ice cream but said that he could still taste the cricket in it. Micolino's cricket-flavored ice cream is a unique and adventurous flavor that not everyone will like, but some customers are enjoying it. Micolino likes to try new things and make different kinds of ice cream, so it's possible that he will create more interesting flavors in the future. Reference article: https://apnews.com/article/germany-cricket-flavored-ice-cream-30ec8248ff14db3d842316e7b8e68bf7 Powered by Firstory Hosting

Welcome to October 9, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate bold flavors and brave explorers. Hey Marlo, what do you think of when I say “Moldy Cheese?” John? Ok, so… In the case of moldy cheese beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. If those deep blue veins of penicillium sound more like medicine than mouth watering cheese you are not alone. Not everyone appreciates the nutty, saltiness of a well aged cheese. It's believed that the first blue cheese known as Gorgonzola was discovered by accident in 879 AD. But who was the brave soul that saw mold on cheese and decided to try it anyway? This is proof that whatever doesn't kill you could be delicious. On National Moldy Cheese Day savor the boldness of a Roquefort, Stilton or Brie. We all know that America was discovered in 1492, right? Not true. The Viking Leif Erikson sailed across the Atlantic and found a new continent that he named Vinland. The settlement was in today's Newfoundland. Unlike Columbus, he and his men only stayed for a few years then moved back to Europe. For centuries, no one knew that this had even happened until archaeologists uncovered an abandoned Norse village in Canada. So it appears that it was the Vikings who were actually the first to plant their flag in North America. On National Leif Erikson Day, we celebrate this explorer who paved the way to the new world. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
