Amory Gethin has compiled data from surveys from more than 150 countries to measure what economists have never measured before: the correlation between education and individual incomes. Gethin is an economist in the World Bank Development Research Group working on growth and inequality and has sought to quantify the economic value of education as it relates to global poverty reduction. Trigger Warning - this show briefly discusses difficult topics including self-harm and suicide. Gethin Jones is a survivor, but what few people would have believed, (including Gethin), was that he would also become an international speaker and thought leader. Growing up in the care system, he spent a total of 8 years in prison, battled intravenous heroin addiction, and was trapped in destructive patterns that seemed destined to lead him to more prison time or an early death. He found the will to change his life and a way to transform his own narrative arc, and today he shares his story and offers hope and a different future to others incarcerated and employed within the justice system. Gethin leads Unlocking Potential, a company that works within prisons, probation services, local authorities, and charities across the UK, Australia, and America. He delivers keynote talks, workshops, training, eLearning, and consultancy, aimed at helping individuals, teams and creating a justice system that is fair and fit for purpose for everyone. If you are struggling to overcome imposter syndrome, or finding it a challenge to get traction with your message, then listen up because you will get inspiration and insight from Gethin's journey from inmate to international speaker. Enjoy! What you'll discover: The story of Gethin's transformation from inmate to international speaker. What prison pipelines are and how Gethin is trying to change the justice system. How he busts the myths to shift the narrative about reform. How he positions his talk and services to connect with a business audience. The mindset and practical steps that enabled Gethin to build a speaking career from one networking meeting in 2016. Gethin's advice if you feel that you have a message that no-one wants to hear because it is difficult and challenging. How Gethin approached the first talk he gave. Why Gethin always approaches speaking as a pupil with something to learn. Where speaking fits with moving his mission forward. In this episode of The Struts Live, we're diving into the roots of our Welsh drummer, Gethin Davies. Picture this: a tiny village called Llanddewi Brefi, with a close-knit community of about 500 people, where Geth grew up in a bustling local pub run by his parents. This pub wasn't just any pub; it was the heart of the village, alive with music, laughter, and even the occasional visit from famous musicians. Geth shares some truly nostalgic memories from his childhood, painting a vivid picture of a life filled with colorful local legends and the rich history of his hometown, including the notable Synod of Brefi. But it's not just about the past—it's about the cultural essence of Wales that shaped Geth. He opens up about the significance of the Welsh language in his upbringing and the laid-back, community-centric vibe that comes with it. From amusing tales of local characters to the legendary 70s LSD bust that put the village on the map, Geth's stories are as engaging as they are enlightening. This hometown tour series is just getting started, and you won't want to miss the rest as we uncover more about the places and experiences that have shaped The Struts. Stay tuned for next week's episode where we continue our journey through the band members' hometowns. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Lucinda welcomes Gethin Nadin, an expert in workplace well-being, to discuss the current state of well-being strategies in organisations and the need for a more holistic approach. Gethin shares insights from his research and emphasises the importance of organisational culture and personal responsibility in promoting well-being. They also delve into the impact of AI on well-being and productivity in the workplace KEY TAKEAWAYS Well-being strategies should focus on inclusivity and organisational structure, rather than solely relying on purchasing well-being platforms or tools. Low-intensity well-being interventions, such as providing skills and education to support a healthier lifestyle, can have a significant impact on overall well-being. Organisations should prioritise creating a culture of well-being and personal responsibility, where employees are encouraged to take care of their well-being for both personal and business success. AI technology can play a role in removing administrative tasks and providing personalised support, but it should be used in a way that enhances the human experience at work, rather than diminishing it. BEST MOMENTS "The pandemic was clearly a watershed moment for well-being." "I think the more we talk about mental health, we risk normalising it too much." "The more you can help somebody deal with what's going on in life, the better they will bring that great stuff to work” "I think we need to have more vulnerability at management level." This exclusive, copyrighted technology has been extensively tested to create the perfect symmetry of sound, music, and spoken word for the ultimate in brainwave training and relaxation, providing your mind and body with all the benefits of meditation without the disciplined effort. BrainTap's neuro-algorithm produces brainwave entrainment — the synchronization of brainwaves to a specialized sound — with no user effort. The result of which is full-spectrum brainwave activity. Using this matrix of neuro-activity, each of BrainTap's sessions is encoded differently to ensure maximum neuroplasticity — the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections, resulting in a flexible and resilient brain. The science behind BrainTap relies on four key elements that enable the sessions to induce brainwave entrainment. https://braintap.com/ BTHS $547 : https://braintap.com/bhc-checkout/?add-to-cart=46842#a_aid=2207KRGE&a_bid=a7535aec BTHS $647: https://braintap.com/bhc-checkout/?add-to-cart=44896#a_aid=2207KRGE&a_bid=4d5f6d31 App Bundles: https://braintap.com/bundles/#a_aid=2207KRGE&a_bid=c26267b7 Boncharge Blue Light Blocking Glasses, Remedy Sleep Mask and, Red light reading lamp We didn't create BON CHARGE. The way to live is to be connected to the Earth - grounded as much as possible − because being connected is like pulling a switch that enables your body to function more naturally and efficiently. Your body works electrically. You are a bioelectric being and you need connection with your natural electric source — the Earth's electric energy. It establishes the most natural state of your electric body. It nourishes every cell."
