Today, I'm thrilled to announce the second installment of my “Week of Wine and Roses” with the show's librettist, one of the greatest playwrights of our time, Craig Lucas. Tune in to hear some of the stories and insights of his career, including: why THE LIGHT OF THE PIAZZA was ultimately a fable, the double meaning of PRELUDE TO A KISS, the process of adapting that play into a musical, the newest incarnation in theater of the “Philistine urge,” why Amelie was a challenging main character for a musical, how he transitioned from being a performer to being a playwright, why Sondheim/Prince musicals appeal to him, the small fix he made to AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, and so much more.

This week its a bizarre body-swapping romantic drama, Prelude to a Kiss starring Meg Ryan and a young Alec Baldwin who played the same role in the stage production. On this week's episode we tackle possibly the only film in the sub-genre of "fantasy romance," the seldom-seen and rarely talked about prequel to “Mrs. Doubtfire”, “Prelude to a Kiss”. Is Meg Ryan's smile and Alec Baldwin's comedic timing enough to save this film from it's bizarre body-snatching plot? It's all excitement in this season one finale of When Calls the Heart! More manufactured drama, more stilted romance, more edgy forensics, and more unrealistic relationship expectations. We unpack it all in Episode 6 of Hallmark Quality Control.
This week Sabrina commits the most heinous acts of betrayal you could ever imagine ... and if you're upset about the lack of 'SPOILER' Warning then don't be because the episode title kinda gives that away. Apart from the heartbreaking cliffhanger you've also got the return of The Pirates to look forward to, YEHAW!!

Can the oversharer be a boon to society? Can we do more worldly good by sharing all the weird things that we (and our bodies) do? Can shame be erased by a bit more info than you wanted to hear? Well, according to this storyteller - and the internet - the answer is a resounding, Yes! This story was featured in our January 2013 show, Too Much Information.
John Mahoney (Tony winner for The House of Blue Leaves in 1986) talks about returning to Broadway after a 20-year hiatus in the Roundabout Theatre production of Prelude to a Kiss, including why he had to be conscious of not making his stage role of The Old Man reminiscent of his long-running TV role as Frasier's father; recounts the story of his emigration to America from Manchester, England and how, at age 37, he suddenly decided to take up acting; recalls his early stage work with the St. Nicholas Theatre and being invited by John Malkovich to join the now-celebrated Steppenwolf Theatre ensemble; explains why he declined to travel to New York with Steppenwolf's productions of And a Nightingale Sang and Balm in Gilead; and remembers his breakthrough performances in Orphans and The House of Blue Leaves, the latter his first major show outside of his Chicago theatre family.
