It’s time to party Mardi Gras style! We watched S1E15 of NCIS: New Orleans, “Le Carnaval de la Mort” which from the get-go made us realize we cannot speak French. We get into the tropes of CBS procedurals—from their penchant to create spinoffs, to the immediately recognizable character traits, to weird expository dialogue, to trying to fit horrendous crimes and the emotional reactions to them in 42 minutes. Katy tries to talk up the Bond franchise with one of its worst moments, Carrie brings up Hocus Pocus two separate times, Maddy teaches us about vein recognition, and Mack has very strong feelings about the depiction of “nerds.” We also discuss how anyone can make a badge or business card so why do we trust them, how we love the setting and location work in New Orleans, get really judgy about some of the parties and parades depicted, and talk about how Mack used to bite people. (He was being a dinosaur.) Plus, we all try out our own Wookie sounds and discuss how much we like Scott Bakula. Enjoy! TW: drug use, death by overdose, stabbing, police, military and law enforcement departments, law enforcement negligence CORRECTIONS: -Mack kept calling LaSalle “Cajun” but he really meant “Southern”; LaSalla and the actor who plays him (Lucas Black) are both from Alabama and would not be considered Cajun. Source 1 Source 2 -Don Johnson does not star in JAG. He starred in Nash Bridges. -There is a military base in New Orleans : Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans
Rebinging Star Trek DS9: If Wishes Were Horses Welcome to S1E15 If Wishes Were Horses. This is a peculiar episode where imaginations are running wild and also coming to life. Miles has to put up with Rumpelstiltskin (yep, you read that right) and Julian has to put up with a clingy Jadzia (you kind of asked for it, Julian). If Wishes Were Horses While Odo is dealing with a blizzard and emus running wild on the Promenade, the rest of the crew is dealing with imaginary characters seemingly taking physical form. Julian gets an important lesson in being humiliated at work by someone not letting him just do his job (hello karma) and Miles is being shadowed by a scary dude from a story he read to his daughter Molly. Oh yeah and for the 100th time (approximately) this season, the station is nearly completely destroyed and we still don’t have an evacuation plan in place. Let’s do some drills people! This is one wacky episode. Why are there 2 Jadzias in If Wishes Were Horses No B-story this week. Jake makes a couple of appearances, but he and Nog aren’t up to their usual antics. Instead we get an imaginary baseball player and two Jadzias (which weirdly is not better than just having one). What’s this rebinge thing? It’s a re-watch of a thing you’ve already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Listen to our intro episode if you want to know a little more about us. And kick off the whole thing with our rebinge of the pilot episode Emissary. Or catch up on the previous episode: S1E14 Progress (we are pretty proud of that one). Next time… We dig into Season 1 Episode 16 of DS9: The Forsaken. We're tough, we're ambitious, and we know exactly what we want...more Blaine! Wait...we're still half a season away. Anyway. This episode is all about our first tribute episode, S1E15, "The Power of Madonna." We cover Quinn's mini-feminist story arc, how Sue Sylvester would have made an amazing Hedwig, and who would have survived an escape room. Also, we get a bunch more songs this time. Yay. This episode rates a combined 1 Kevin. We took the average of the Quantity of Kevin vs. the Quality of Kevin...and there was a big difference. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Star Trek: Discovery – Season 1, Episode 15: Will You Take My Hand? There was a lot to say about Star Trek: Discovery S1E15, which is titled Will You Take My Hand? It was a season finale, after all, right? In fact, like last week, it took extra time to get this episode to you as a result. More about Season 1, Episode 14: The War Without, The War Within Before we get going and talk about the season finale, we got more feedback about last week’s episode and some pre-finale speculation. We share that feedback about the penultimate episode! Fred’s pics… Part 5! Fred from The Netherlands shared more pics again this week, showing us more wonderful use of lighting in the season finale! I have used one of those pics as the featured image for this episode, and a couple more below. If you want to see them all, you can see Fred’s image collection from the episode here. You’re no Captain Georgiou, Emperor!!! It seems that not all Starfleet captains from the Mirror Universe are good at hiding in plain sight! During his time in the Prime Universe, Lorca was able to pass himself as a Federation captain, albeit with some unconventional tendencies. Emperor Georgiou, on the other hand, doesn’t even TRY to hide her true self, despite Admiral Cornwell installing her as the long thought dead Captain Georgiou. The way she conducted herself on the Bridge was quite shocking, but also right in character. I was a bit surprised that she survived the episode, but when I think of the possibility of her as this crew’s longtime antagonist, like a Q, Gul Dukat or even Daniels, it makes me giddy! I still wonder if she will end up an agent of Section 31, or running the whole thing. Maybe she’ll try to start a new empire? Who knows, but I look forward to seeing her again! NCC-17… Yup, that’s right!!! At the end of this episode, Discovery answers a distress call from… you guessed it… the USS Enterprise NCC-1701!!! Now, in this era, sometime around the Kirk is not the Captain of the Enterprise yet. Instead, his predecessor, Captain Christopher Pike, is the Captain. However, Sarek’s son and Burnham’s adopted brother, Spock, does serve on this era’s Enterprise. We can only hope we’ll see this Enterprise in Season 2. Will Zachary Quinto reprise his role, or will they cast someone else as another version of Spock? And will it be Bruce Greenwood, who plays Pike in the 2009 and 2013 reboot films, reprising the role, or will it be someone new? What about the enigmatic Number One, who was played by the late Majel Barrett in The Cage (the original TOS pilot)? Some called the appearance of the Enterprise as fan service, and Ruthie is a little trepidatious on how this might affect canon next season. I say bring it on!
With the exception of that one episode about the Tour de France, we haven't done a lot of sports here on Giant Geek vs. Mega n00b. But a TV show about a SportsCenter-like show, written by "West Wing" creator Aaron Sorkin? Sign us up!But wait, there's more: Joining us for our introduction to "Sports Night" is Sorkin superfan Walt Mossberg — although he may be better known as the former Personal Technology columnist for the Wall Street Journal who co-founded AllThingsD and Recode, where Eric now works. For the purposes of this discussion, we watched five episodes of "Sports Night," chosen from across its two-year run on ABC. They are: S1E7, “Dear Louise”; S1E15, “Dana and the Deep Blue Sea”; S1E19, “Eli’s Coming”; S2E3, “Cliff Gardener”; and S2E11 “And the Cutman Cometh."When we recorded this podcast, those were all available on Hulu, but unfortunately they seem to have been taken off! To watch those five episodes, you can rent them for $1-2 apiece from Amazon, iTunes, Vudu and Google Play. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The Binars redesign the holodeck for Riker's full enjoyment! But IT'S A TRAP and the end up with the ultimate honeypot. What's the deal, well apparently they want the largest hard drive around and the Enterprise is it. Patrick and Sascha voyage out and hit this one head on!
Nathan and Eppy discuss S1E15, Sleight of Hand. This episode stands out for being more personal to Jim Rockford and less of an "investigation of the week," and we talk about how this kind of departure-from-formula makes for a memorable episode. Paoletta and Epidiah Ravachol. We are exploring the intensely weird and interesting world of the 70s TV detective show The Rockford Files. Half celebration and half analysis, we break down episodes of the show and then analyze how and why they work as great pieces of narrative and character-building. In each episode of Two Hundred a Day, we watch an episode, recap and review it as fans of the show, and then tease out specific elements from that episode that hold lessons for writers, gamers and anyone else interested in making better narratives.
