Of all the Matt Kelly picks that Matt Kelly has ever picked for this show, THE FUNHOUSE MASSACRE (2015) is definitely up there as a certified MATT KELLY PICK - it's a somewhat obscure slasher from a decade ago set on Halloween in a funhouse staffed by a colorful list of deranged serial killers! Robert Englund for one day of shooting! Clint Howard as a psychotic but apologetic human taxidermist! Blood! Guts! Slapstick comedy! Westler guy wearing a clown killer's face skin! Mr Ice Cream Man (1996) was chosen by Patreon supporter Helen, and is a perfect example of the kind of deep-cut oddity that makes their way into the Year of the Stitch-Up. Directed by Mack Hail and co-written with Jim Mills, this low-budget horror outing was produced by Jeremy Settles with executive production from Hail, Mills, and Yvette Hoffman. Released straight to video, the film leaned into the 1990s boom of VHS horror, serving up a mix of camp, gore, and uneasy humor. The cast featured Henry Weckesser, Jim Mills, Cindy Reed, and even Hail himself in a supporting role.Shot on location in Las Vegas, Nevada, the film made use of everyday suburban backdrops to heighten its eerie and unsettling vibe. While it never received mainstream attention, Mr Ice Cream Man has since earned a small cult following among collectors and fans of obscure horror. Its scrappy production values and surreal tone give it that unmistakable 90s direct-to-video flavor, making it a quirky gem in the world of independent fright flicks. If you enjoy the show, we have a Patreon, so become a supporter here.Referral links also help out the show if you were going to sign up:NordVPNNordPassTrailer Guy Plot SummaryA quiet neighborhood. A summer heatwave. And one man with a frozen secret…From director Mack Hail comes a twisted slice of 90s VHS horror — where sweet treats turn sour, and the ice cream truck's jingle is the sound of fear. Starring Henry Weckesser, Cindy Reed, and Jim Mills, Mr Ice Cream Man (1996) serves up a chilling tale of small-town terror with a scoop of pure indie grit. This isn't the Ice Cream Man you've heard of. This is something darker. Something stranger. Something you'll never forget…Mr Ice Cream Man — once you hear the music, it's already too late.Fun FactsMr Ice Cream Man (1996) was directed by Mack Hail, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jim Mills. The film was shot on location in Las Vegas, Nevada, giving it a distinct 90s suburban horror feel.Director Mack Hail not only worked behind the camera but also appeared in the film in a supporting role. The cast featured Henry Weckesser, Cindy Reed, and Jim Mills — the latter of whom also co-wrote the film.Mr Ice Cream Man was produced on a very modest budget typical of direct-to-video horror films of the mid-1990s.Executive producers included Hail, Mills, and Yvette Hoffman, who all helped push the project through independent distribution channels. The film was released straight to VHS at the height of the 90s home-video boom, making it a cult collector's item today.Despite being overlooked at release, it has gained a small cult following among fans of obscure horror cinema.Unlike the similarly titled 1995 film Ice Cream Man starring Clint Howard, Mr Ice Cream Man (1996) is a completely separate production with no connection to the earlier movie.Today, Mr Ice Cream Man is celebrated in horror fan circles as an example of DIY filmmaking that captures the gritty, experimental spirit of 1990s indie horror.thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback
On this episode, we start the spooky season early with a very questionable “horror” movie, Ice Cream Man. We talk about the behinds the scenes, Clint Howard, and the questionable decisions they made making the movie.
This week's episode of the Empire Podcast asks perhaps the biggest question ever tackled on this show: who would win in a fight between the Gleesons and the Skarsgårds? Join Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara, James Dyer, and Amon Warmann, as they tackle that scenario and more. Is the world truly ready for the Coppola clan kicking bottom? Elsewhere, our intrepid quartet discuss the week's movie news (Star Wars! Superman! Lara Croft!), including a discussion of the trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple that discusses spoilers for 28 Years Later. So, if you wish to skip, that runs from 53:44 - 58:00 approx. Oh, and they also review Spike Lee's reunion with Denzel Washington, Highest 2 Lowest, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Ethan Coen's Honey Don't, and Orlando Bloom's searing boxing drama, The Cut. In fact, Orlando is one of our guests this week, joining The Cut's director Sean Ellis to chat with Chris on Zoom about the extreme lengths, physical and otherwise, he went to for the film. [1:08:37 - 1:25:12 approx] And Chris also sits down in the podbooth with MJ Bassett, director of the brand new version of Red Sonja, for a candid conversation about MJ's long-held determination to make a Red Sonja movie, her recent decision to leave the United States to return to Britain, and much, much more. [22:22 - 40:22 approx] Enjoy.
This week we dive headlong into one of the most baffling 80's video store hits, The Wraith, in which Charlie Sheen is a ghost or an alien or a ghost alien who gets revenge on the wily gang of Arizona cretins that murdered him by running them over with his magic ghost alien car. The Wraith is a lot of things. Good is not one of them but it has a certain ineffable charm that makes it tremendously fun to watch in spite of its story being positively incidental to the rest of the movie. It casts the widest possible net to remind you of movies like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Death Wish 3, and The Road Warrior. Do you like cool cars? Do you like explosions? Do you like aliens, ghosts, or ghost aliens? Are you willing to let slide about a dozen totally unresolved plot points and completely ignore the fact that this movie leaves you with more questions than answers? You will probably love The Wraith. The soundtrack rules. Sheen seems completely unaware of the movie he's in. A pre-Twin Peaks Sherilyn Fenn is doing her best with what she has. Clint Howard gloriously answers our question: is it a wig? All this and more in our exhaustive breakdown of The Wraith from director Mike Marvin.Want to try Bring Me The Axe premium content for a month at no charge? What happens when a big time movie star gets popped for speeding while rolling through Mayberry? He just may learn the value of connection and community, that's what!Mayberry Man… first a movie, then a series… was inspired by the reverent fervor that is the annual Mayberry Days Festival which takes place annually in Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Producer Gregory Schell and Writer/Director Stark Howell are both second generation Mayberry progeny and their experiences at the festival inspired them to crate the Mayberry Man franchise.Greg and Stark both have dads who made two Andy Griffith Show appearances, Hoke Howell and Ronnie Schell. Ronnie then went on to co-star with Mayberry's own Gomer Pyle on Gomer Pyle USMC.Greg and Stark join us in-studio to help us welcome Zoom guests, Allan Newsome who plays the Floyd the Barber re-enactor and Chris Bauman, who brings Gomer to life. They share their histories of falling in love with those characters, stepping into their shoes and clothing, meeting festival fans and now sharing their portrayals onscreen in Mayberry Man.Stark's Dad Hoke was besties with Rance Howard. Together, they pursued their acting and writing careers while Rance's kids Ron and Clint played little league and created early films with the Howell boys.Stark's brother, producer Cort Howell, shares how he used crowdfunding, targeted marketing and fan community building to bring Mayberry Man to life. Plus, Greg reflects on growing up in the shadow of an actor/comedian father and Stark shares his earliest screen role, co-starring with Clint Howard, in a 14-year-old Ron Howard's third Super 8 film classic, Cards, Cads, Guns, Gore & Death. And in current media, Weezy enlightens Fritz as to the internet outrage regarding Big Brother's Rylie and Katharine showmance and Fritz shares his enthusiasm for the new Spike Lee 'joint' Highest 2 Lowest, now in theatersPath Points of Interest:Mayberry Manhttps://www.amazon.com/Mayberry-Man-Brett-Varvel/dp/B0B8NNSYR9https://www.mayberryman.com/home-zMayberry Man The Serieshttps://www.primevideo.com/detail/Mayberry-Man-The-Series/0OW0MU66B6JJM52GUUWO3CQQ8Khttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt24222046/?ref_=nm_ov_bio_lkGregory Schell on InstagramStark Howell on IMDBCort HowellAllan NewsomeTwo Chairs No Waiting PodcastChris Bauman Big BrotherHighest 2 LowestMedia Path PodcastMedia Path on FacebookMedia Path on InstagramMedia Path on XMedia Path on BlueskyLouise Palanker on TiktokFritz Coleman on Tiktok

I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we try to sell our illegal contact lenses are fellow cinephiles and resistance fighters Mike and Ryan. Topics of discussion in this episode include a film that is only a few degrees away from being a soft core porno; we wonder why critics in 1996 had such a problem with a woman being sexy; and finally, Clint Howard shines as he goes full skeeze playing Steel Harbor's sweatiest scumbag, Schmitz. We discuss where The Ice Cream Man lands on the pantheon of slashers, is it a gem or a relic of campy horror comedy?

Bradley is such a cool and talented actor! Sitting down with him and getting his insight about the movie is pure genius! We spoke about how he got the role and what it was like to be in a scene with Daniel Roebuck and Clint Howard. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Eddie – even though his death could have been better executed by Art, it's still a great death scene. Be sure to check out his upcoming movies which are currently in production: Jingle All the Slay, LA Jesus, Dog People, Broken Bird, Mr. Wonderful, and Doctor Plague.

The episode opens on an emotional note for Jonathan as he acknowledges the bittersweet moment of watching his mentee, Levi, select a film that he deems one of the worst ever made. The duo can't help but dive into the absurdity, as they reminisce about the film's gratuitous nudity, poor acting, and the unforgettable presence of Clint Howard - whose performance, while dubious, is not to be dismissed too lightly.

Kim, a female reporter, investigates the death of an enflamed woman jumping off a building, leading to her involvement in a ritual sacrifice by a coven of witches during Christmas time.Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation is by far the biggest deviation from the Silent Night, Deadly Night series and definitely the weirdest so far. We don't expect much else from Brian Yuzna, but with Clint Howard playing a character named Ricky, where it's completely left open if there's any continuity from the Ricky in the previous movies and the addition of body horror and bugs into known slasher films is a bit of a surprise. Not to mention, Christmas is barely mentioned in this movie that is a listed sequel of Christmas horror films. There is much to call out in this movie, but it is very entertaining. This week's pick is the 1981 horror film Evilspeak. Relentlessly bullied by classmates and treated poorly by every adult staff member he encounters, a pudgy military-school student fights back using computer technology to summon a devil worshipper and his demonic powers to exact his revenge on those who have wronged him. Starring a toupee wearing Clint Howard, Richard Moll of Night Court fame and Don Stark of That 70's Show fame!
Saurian cinema connoisseur Serge Bodnarchuk of Cold Crash Pictures joins Dan as guest co-host for a dinosaur sci-fi horror adventure from 1993. No, not that one. This is Movie Oubliette! It's the low-budget Roger Corman production Carnosaur, starring Laura Dern's mom, Diane Ladd, and Bryce Dallas Howard's uncle, Clint Howard! This adaptation of John Brosnan's novel hit 65 theatres a few weeks before Spielberg's blockbuster romped into box office history. Featuring astonishing special effects from Troll director John Carl Buechler, this alleged mockbuster is without doubt the scrappy underdog, but is it a charming creature feature that deserves to be rescued?
