    Yin and Yang. Light and dark. We need contrast to appreciate the light.We need opposites for balance to occur.Opposing forces keep our world from falling apart. Eternal sunny days may sound lovely but we need the rain. The rain is our dark moments, the emotions we don't want. And yet the rain is a vital ingredient that allows the earth to flourish when the sun comes out.We need our shadow selves and yet we lock this aspect away when others are around. We even lock it away from ourselves.We act almost as if this aspect of ourselves is a distorted family member locked in a closet because we are ashamed and embarrassed of the way he acts and presents himself.Yet the shadow self is worthy on so many levels and today we are talking about why and how you can embrace and even be proud of him.I spoke of a coin. Light on one side. Shadow the other. One embraced and the other ignored and shunned. But it is the same coin. And every coin is a gift. Sometimes a coin is presented to us with the light side. We grab it, hold it near and usually are happy to show the world.But most times we are presented coins with shadow showing. We cower from it. Disgusted with what we just saw in ourselves and we try to throw it away. But it is our coin and cannot be discarded and so it returns. Eventually we shove it in the bottom of our back packs to carry round as the burden we see it as.What if we took the time to learn to flip the coin and see the other side?     Your Intuitive Self

    I remember when I first started learning about my intuition… or even that I had one! I was a teenager and I loved the idea of something smarter than me guiding me. But I had no idea how to even reach for it. I was completely disconnected and it felt like someone handing me a book written in Spanish and saying now read this and understand it. I don't know Spanish and even though I might hold that book and look at the words with true desire in my heart to understand, there is no way I could. Tapping into intuition, honestly felt like that back then. In the beginning I was trying to jump straight to full understanding, loud and clear... But, if I want to read that Spanish book, first I will need to go elsewhere to learn and practice before being able to understand the Spanish text. It's the same with your intuition.     42: Internal Apocalypse

    Apocalypse: a "revelation", "an unveiling or unfolding of things not previously known and which could not be known apart from the unveiling."Many say we are in an apocalypse right now, and I would have to agree. The world is not coming to an end but the veil is being lifted and all the things that where hidden or easy to ignore are now coming into the spotlight…. And it is uncomfortable. And it’s painful. But just because a festering wound is covered up, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. As we uncover these wounds in our society and our world, we are exposing them and allowing the opportunity for healing to begin. Some wounds are bigger and deeper than others and as such, will take a longer time and more resources than others.It is not the world apocalypse that I want to talk about today however. Today, I want to talk about our internal apocalypse, because without the internal apocalypse happening, the wounds that are exposed in our external world will not heal.Our routines were shaken up in recent months, many of us have found the veil lifted on all manner of false beliefs and patterns. And with this happening, many have hungered for normal life to resume so that they can busy themselves and forget what came up in the quiet that was enforced on them.This is not a good thing. With life now returning to some semblance of normality, we run the risk of stalling the internal apocalypse that has begun….     I am sitting outside, wrapped in blankets as I do my morning meditation. I feel pretty content. I am excited, optimistic and full of quiet hope for what is evolving in this beautiful world of ours.We are in changing times and my work is to remain balanced, grounded and to keep my head from being influenced too much from the extreme opinions on a range of topics, which have much energy behind them right now. I also feel a whisper in my ear to share this awareness with those ready to listen. Clarity and truth are what I seek to perceive and to keep the knowledge front and centre that everything put out into the world goes through the filter of that person’s beliefs and that I also receive through a filter of my own bias. As autonomous human beings we need to give ourselves the time to sort our thoughts and beliefs and to ask the questionsIs this true? Could the opposite be true? The way I feel about this thing….     35: Uniquely You

    Why are we all so afraid to be ourselves? This is the biggest fear I see time and time again. And I get it because I have felt it too and releasing it was both the most terrifying thing I have ever done as well as the most liberating. There is a lightness that comes about when you make a firm decision to never act in a certain way or be a certain thing for fear of someone else not approving.I used to think I would turn into an assehole if I stopped caring about the approval of others. But the beautiful thing is that the exact opposite occurred as now, if I do or say something for someone else, it is purely because I want to make them feel good. I want to lift them. I want to give. It comes from a place of complete heart with no strings attached. It is very easy to get into a cycle of resentment when we are basing our lives on the approval of others. It’s easy, when in this state, to give and then have words running through your mind about how unappreciated you are. Or perhaps you give and then you feel like you have fallen short.One of the best lessons I learned was that you can never dance well enough to someone else's tune so it is impossible to keep them happy no matter how hard you try. Thus you might as well give up and dance to your own tune. You will find when you do this, others are attracted to you, because ultimately we all want to feel the freedom to be ourselves. Why are we so afraid then? Why do we feel naked? It comes down to us humans being sociable creatures. We need to feel like we belong. It is hard wired into us. The problem arises when we find ourselves in a culture or group where our true self is different from what the “norm” is. And it is easy to believe the whole world is full of people just like those surrounding you up till now.Here is the fun part though. There are people just like you. Your crew is out there, somewhere in this world and when you embrace who you are, you will find it easier to find them. Right now, if you are dancing to someone else's tune, if one of your true “crew” walked by, they would not recognise you as being like them.Be brave, be bold. And step out as yourself and you will soon discover that you are not alone for long.     What would your days be like if no-one were watching you? What would you do with your time? Who would you be? What would you dare think about?Our ego loves an audience, so when we take the audience out of the equation we are left with only with ourselves…. Our deepest heart’s desires and who we truly are when you peel away all the layers. There used to be a part of me afraid that if I didn’t have an audience I would do nothing at all…. And if that’s the truth then what kind of person did it make me? I spent a lot of time trying to convince myself that there is no way I would turn into a lazy slob (my biggest fear) but no amount of “Michelle you care too much to do nothing” placated the part asking the question.Then one day the thought popped into my mind…. Why do I think it is NOT OK to do nothing? Could the opposite be true? Could doing nothing truly be OK?If no-one is watching, then why do I care if I am lazy? If no-one is watching then if I eat chocolate all day long in just my underwear no-one can judge.And if I don’t care about the judgement of others then what is my reason for judging myself so harshly?.... Or even at all?Eventually, I sat up and realised….. Like I actually sat up when I realised this (I thought it was important you knew that!)... If no-one is watching then I have full permission to be whoever I want to be.It took failure for me to understand this freedom.     27: Intuitive Flow into Money

    The generally accepted "norm" when we have a goal we want to achieve, is to strategize and plan each step towards the goal and to prioritize these steps above all else. It's effective.... Until it's not. Because when we continually push ourselves, always ignoring what we truly feel like doing, we end up in a place of physical and/or mental burnout. But is it truly possible to achieve big goals and dreams with a sense of balance?I believe it is, and in my experience it's a path that leads to much more than the goal you seek.I have committed to following my intuition for the next 90 days, no matter what my head screams at me in fear. And my end goal is an increase in income.I chose income for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it would be really nice! (lol). And secondly, I know it's an area of my life where I habitually make fear related decisions instead of following my intuition.     26: My Painful Lessons from Burnout

    Towards the end of 2018 I finally consciously acknowledged that I was in a state of mental, physical and emotional burnout. I didn't state it publicly at the time. To be honest I was a little embarrassed. I was struggling with the fact that I was someone who prided themselves with my ability to eat well, exercise, run 2 businesses, take care of 3 kids etc etc. And I had positive thinking down to a fine art.... Which turned out to be half the problem. You see, I was so good at making myself think I was OK, that I didn't realise how much I was suffering internally. And when I finally acknowledged it, I had no idea just how long and painful the journey to health and happiness would be. I started this podcast in April of 2019, approximately 6 months after recognising the trouble I was in. Fast forward another 9 months and the learnings have been dramatic.     This week I interviewed Patsy Kenney, explorer of life and truly someone who inspires me every day."The last year has been one of the greatest most difficult years of my life. Last May, a high school classmate who I was close with passed away unexpectedly from a heartattack in his sleep at 33 years old. This shook me to my core and lead me to start asking myself the question, if I didn't wake up tomorrow, would I be satisfied with my life? One month later I got a call from my dad that he had been diagnosed with cancer. 4 weeks after that, we learned it was stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer that had metastisized to almost every other organ, including his brain. Boom. Cosmic lightening bolt. Self-reflection continued, which led to several raw, real, and honest conversations with my husband about our relationship. We reached the conclusion that if we were to remain in the marriage, we were compromising the truth of who we are as individuals. So, on Thanksgiving of last year, we reached the decision to split. Jan - May I lived in a tiny bedroom at my friend's house, my business took new shape and form, and my dad's health continued to decline. I spent the better part of this year back-and-forth between Providence and Maine caring for my dad. On June 25, 2019, he passed. Nothing in my life looks the same as it did a year ago. And pieces are still coming together and falling apart. My perspective on life and business and why we're here has been reoriented.     Subconscious Sabotage….It sounds like something out of a spy movie and perhaps you may even think that you need not learn this lesson but in all honesty if you skip this lesson you run the risk of falling into this exact trap.So what am I talking about when I say subconscious sabotage? I am talking about the way our brains are programmed to work and how sometimes no matter how hard we try consciously to make things work – somehow we end up doing the complete opposite.Subconscious patterns can be positive or negativeOnce a pattern is in there the subconscious will look for proof that it is correct and it will reject anything that isn't in line with the subconscious belief. Thus this is how beliefs grow stronger and the saying that an old man is stuck in his ways could be truer than we think - and for good reason!What changes our subconscious patterns is our thoughts. If consistently think different thoughts to the programmed pattern the pattern will eventually change. What usually happens however is that the thoughts we are thinking are a result of the subconscious because we do not make it a practice to be aware of what we are thinking about and thus our reality reflects that.Be aware of your thoughts. If you catch yourself on a rant or talking or thinking about something you don’t want. Check yourself. And force yourself to re-word it. If its hard to reword into what you want, then you know that your subconscious is fighting you.     What is balance truly? And how do we obtain it? Is it a perfect state of being, where nothing ever goes wrong? I don’t think it is. When I think of balance, I think of it as a rhythm or cycle, where we are in a constant state of change. In my mind, I have an image of a pendulum swinging left and right. In one direction is activity and creativity (let’s say its the right side) and on the other is rest and introspection (and we will say this is the left).As the pendulum swings to the right, at the peak, just before it starts to descend again is a moment of weightlessness. It is effortless at that moment to be in that energy. On the right, everything is firing, adrenaline is pumping, action and creativity are happening and it feels really good.Now at the apex of the left side, it too has a moment of weightlessness where it is effortless and bliss to stay in the energy of rest and introspection.They both feel good…. Because they are BOTH good for us…. BUT there is only a moment of weightlessness before the momentum shifts to going back in the other direction. If we choose to stay at the apex of the left or right, it will take effort and energy to hold yourself there, resulting in a negative outcome.For example, if we stay too long in the energy of the right side (action and creativity), we become overstimulated and unable to create anything of quality, eventually leading to hyper-emotional states like anxiety. And if we stay in the energy of the left side (rest and introspection) we can become lazy and detached and our mood can drop into feelings of hopelessness and depression.So while it is extremely tempting to stay on one end or the other, the pendulum is always seeking balance and if we flow with it, we will find a balance of activity and rest that works well for us. (Because everyone has a different balance of how much rest vs activity they require).My point in giving you this analogy, is so you can give yourself a break from chasing that perfect ideal. If you feel like you are forever adjusting your course in an attempt to energise yourself through activity and then pulling back for rest, then you are most likely doing a really good job.Awareness is the key and just the same as how a toddler learning to walk, finds herself wobbling and making big adjustments in order to balance on two legs, we do the same with our energy balance. But as the toddler practices, pretty soon, she is able to stand so still that you wouldn’t even know that her muscles are making slight adjustments, constantly, to ensure she stays up straight. In this same way, we will also improve our ability to tack back and forth, clumsy at first but improving as time passes, as we follow the pendulum from activity to rest and vise versa.
