In this episode of The Lost Tapes we will be reading a chilling tale from the infamous book "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" by Alvin Schwartz. PUBLIC VERSION. Writer and Director Marcus Dunstan (FEAST, FEAST 2, SAW IV, SAW V, SAW VI, SAW 3D, THE COLLECTOR, THE COLLECTION, THE NEIGHBOR, SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK) makes his triumphant return to THE MOVIE CRYPT to discuss the making of his latest film #AMFAD: ALL MY FRIENDS ARE DEAD (in theaters and available on VOD now). From rolling with the changes that Hollywood has undergone over the last decade and surviving through the pandemic and strikes… to how he got involved with #AMFAD… to how he pulled off the film on such extremely tight resources (the initial production schedule was just 12 days!)… to how he found a way to solve some of the craziest hurdles he faced… to the film's world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival… to BREAKING NEWS about the status of a new COLLECTOR film which Marcus received just minutes before this recording… to a discussion about which films each of the guys would remake if given the chance (and who they would cast)… to why leaning on fellow filmmakers for support and encouragement is such a pivotal part of staying sane in the business… to everyone's favorite X-FILES episode and SO much more… this extremely uplifting conversation is just what you need to hear this week and the perfect example why Marcus is one of our favorite people in the known universe.
Marcus Dunstan's screenwriting with his partner, Patrick Melton, include such horror films as FEAST 1-3, SAW IV-V-VI& SAW 3D THE FINAL CHAPTER, PIRANHA , GOD OF WAR, FINAL DESTINATION 6, and SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK. A while back, a patrol would be sent out to an area in order to track down insurgents in the nearby hillsides. When they never returned it was feared they were overwhelmed or maybe some sort of ambush was laid for them. Fearing the worst, another team was sent out in order to attempt to find them. What they would find were expended casings and evidence of a battle, but no soldiers. That is until something emerged from one the caves. Said to be over 12 feet tall by some accounts, they unloaded on the thing but it kept coming. lets talk about what that looked like in todays episode over the Afghanistan Giants. What's up, revellers and weirdos! This episode we discuss 2019's Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark; We wonder if this film succeeds in potentially introducing young adults to horror, while working our way through all the cliches - Everybody loves a cliche, right?
Have you ever felt the hair-raising chill of the supernatural breathing down your neck? Buckle up, my spooky compatriots, as we venture into the shadow-laden corridors of Sarah's Brooklyn apartment, where the thin veil between this world and the next fluttered menacingly during her mother's last days. Her tale is a highlight in our special holiday edition, weaving through the heartache of loss and the eerie possibility of afterlife visitations. We're also peering into a new chapter of our podcast, putting the spotlight on one central, goosebump-inducing narrative rather than a collection of listener submissions, signaling an exciting evolution for our band of night owls.As the Yuletide spirit wraps its icy fingers around us, don't miss my hauntingly personal encounter with a menacing shadow figure that clawed its way into my life post-Ouija board fiasco. If that's not enough to keep you by the fireplace, I've got a quirky film review to share: 'Anna and the Apocalypse,' a genre-busting zombie musical that brings a dash of undead mayhem to Christmas cheer. Plus, I'm tipping my hat to the 'Caffeinated Conspiracies' podcast—a treat for those who like their coffee strong and their theories stronger. It's an episode packed with thrills, chills, and a touch of heartwarming holiday spirit to see you through the longest of winter nights.
The books of collected stories by Alvin Shwartz and their accompanying terrifying artwork by Stephen Gammell served as many children's gateway into reading or telling each other tales of the macabre! HB is afraid of giant statues. He says that lately has fear has become so bad that is has manifested it in his dreams. Once of the more vivid dreams he's had involved him being left alone in a dark cavern with nothing but a flashlight, where he's forced to find those dark-faced figures all alone. He knows it's silly, but surprisingly he's not alone. On this episode of Your Weirdest Fears, host Larry Mullins sits down with Dr. Kevin Chapman. A licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Chapman has dealt with this fear in many patients. He helps Larry understand how common the fear is, and explains whether or not there's a larger anxiety looming above those statues. You can learn more about Dr. Chapman and his work here. On this episode, the gang review 2019's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, based off the book series of the same name by Alvin Schwartz. The year is 1968, in a small Pennsylvania Town, four teenagers explore the Bellows family haunted house where they find a book that begins writing new horror stories about the teens who have stolen said book. The real question is, which of our favorite podcasters picked this, and will they in turn become marred with a bad score in the book?
