With Late Night with the Devil making waves across the horror genre, Coy Jandreau (DC Studios) & Roxy Striar dive into the 2023 psychological horror sensation directed by Cameron and Colin Cairnes. This chilling found-footage-style film stars David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Oppenheimer) as Jack Delroy, a late-night talk show host desperate to save his struggling program in the 1970s. But when he invites a supposedly possessed young girl onto his broadcast, all hell breaks loose—literally! The film features strong supporting performances from Laura Gordon (Undertow, Saw V) as a skeptical journalist, Ian Bliss (The Matrix Reloaded, Winchester) as a parapsychologist, & Ingrid Torelli (Run Rabbit Run, Five Bedrooms) as the enigmatic & terrifying Lilly! Coy & Roxy break down the film's most unsettling moments, from the eerie behind-the-scenes tension to the horrifying live broadcast that descends into chaos. They also discuss the film's unique blend of vintage late-night TV aesthetics with supernatural horror, its deep themes of media exploitation, and how Dastmalchian delivers a career-defining performance. Join them as they explore why Late Night with the Devil is a must-watch for horror fans, dissect its most terrifying scenes, and analyze how it masterfully blurs the line between reality and nightmare! PUBLIC VERSION. Writer and Director Marcus Dunstan (FEAST, FEAST 2, SAW IV, SAW V, SAW VI, SAW 3D, THE COLLECTOR, THE COLLECTION, THE NEIGHBOR, SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK) makes his triumphant return to THE MOVIE CRYPT to discuss the making of his latest film #AMFAD: ALL MY FRIENDS ARE DEAD (in theaters and available on VOD now). From rolling with the changes that Hollywood has undergone over the last decade and surviving through the pandemic and strikes… to how he got involved with #AMFAD… to how he pulled off the film on such extremely tight resources (the initial production schedule was just 12 days!)… to how he found a way to solve some of the craziest hurdles he faced… to the film's world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival… to BREAKING NEWS about the status of a new COLLECTOR film which Marcus received just minutes before this recording… to a discussion about which films each of the guys would remake if given the chance (and who they would cast)… to why leaning on fellow filmmakers for support and encouragement is such a pivotal part of staying sane in the business… to everyone's favorite X-FILES episode and SO much more… this extremely uplifting conversation is just what you need to hear this week and the perfect example why Marcus is one of our favorite people in the known universe.
This week we welcome writer and director Marcus Dunstan on the show to talk about directing his latest feature #AMFAD or All My Friends are Dead and how he got started by writing features like Saw IV, Saw V and Saw VI. It's finally over. We've reached the end. Of Jeff's story. After a pretty lackluster start to a new trilogy, Saw V picks up literally seconds after the end of its predecessor, leaving Strahm trapped with the corpse of John Kramer. That doesn't last long as he escapes his first trap and begins a cat-and-mouse game with Detective Mark Hoffman--Jigsaw's chosen successor. Meanwhile, a ragtag team finds themselves trapped by Jigsaw, and it's a race against the clock to figure out how to get out of this twisted escape room. Oh yeah, they're also all connected to each other somehow…but how? The 2 Guys 5 Movies podcast continues their latest journey this year as they delve into the universe of Saw over the next few months. Welcome to The Rad Wrap: a new series on series, where Kylie and Elliott explore films with a common thread. In this inaugural episode, they cover the most movies they've covered in an episode by watching all ten feature Saw films in nine days. This Rad Wrap contains spoilers. Along the way, they lose their minds and begin to question what cinema even is anymore when they think about the term "torture porn," appreciate the attempts at social justice, and muse on the idea of punishment. They go through ups and downs as they follow Jigsaw in some of their favourite horror films ever made and miss him terribly in, unfortunately, one of the worst films they've ever seen, all culminating in seeing a Saw film in the theatre again for the first time in over a decade. Join Kylie and Elliott, as they fall further in love with Adam and Gordon; fist pump for Jigsaw and Billy the Puppet; struggle with Amanda and Hoffman; and feel their hearts burst with love for horror films. The films in the series are: Saw (2004), Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006), Saw IV (2007), Saw V (2008), Saw VI (2009), Saw: The Final Chapter (2010), Jigsaw (2017), Spiral (2021), and Saw X (2023).For even more original Saw love, revisit our spoiler-free conversation in episode 61 of our regular series.Conversations:Saw - 3:10Saw II - 26:50Saw III - 39:28Saw IV - 53:49Saw V - 1:02:41Saw VI - 1:09:32Saw: The Final Chapter - 1:19:27Jigsaw - 1:34:03Sprial - 1:44:22Saw X - 1:54:38Dads - 2:11:36Takeaways - 2:21:46Follow along onInstagram: @baddad.raddadLetterboxd: kylieburton Letterboxd: ElliottKuss Hosted on Acast. It's time for one of those massive episodes. Well, it's a four parter anyways. 2008 was a pretty low key year for horror movies. Of course there were tons of them released but except for the likes of Cloverfield & the fifth Saw sequel, I don't recall the world in general going nuts for any of this stuff. Looking at my findings today, it appears that with horror we looked away from America for the real gems . But what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during '08? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and a 5+ hour running time split over 3 episodes. “If you're good at anticipating the human mind, it leaves nothing to chance.” Here is Part 3 of 5 for our SAW Franchise Review for Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, where we bring you Spoiler-filled Feature Reviews of SAW V (2008) and SAW VI (2009). Here in Episode 066, some of your favorite Horror hosts talk about the physics of decapitation, “the bastard child” of the SAW franchise, and we hear Gillman Joel liken “Saw V” to the '80s sitcom, “Golden Girls.” Yes, it is weird. But join us, anyway! As we prepare for the upcoming, brand-new release of “Saw X” (2023), your Horror hosts thought they would take five episodes and review two Saw films per show. “We've got like, probably, 78 minutes of [new] footage here…” - Steve On this episode, the 2023 Halloween Spooktacular starts a few weeks early as the guys chat about franchise-low, Saw V! Holy hell, how is anyone following this story? Are we supposed to be intrigued by the mystery surrounding that building fire? Does the movie even care about the virtually anonymous characters involved in this film's Game? Why couldn't we get a little more Jillsaw here? And can we please take these goddamn movies outside for two minutes of sunlight? PLUS: Introducing horror's latest serial murderer, Dogsaw! Saw V stars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Scott Paterson, Betsy Russell, Julie Benz, Meagan Good, Mark Rolston, Carlo Rota, Greg Bryk, Laurą Gordon, Joris Jarsky, Mike Butters, and Al Sapienza as the Chief of Police; directed by David Hackl. After the dramatic reveal at the end of SAW IV, it's now Detective Hoffman's world and we're just living in it. Mike, Ari, Nichole and DeVaughn are joined again by Kat Hughes of Ghouls Magazine to talk abut the midpoint in the SAW franchise. The fifth entry is typically where things go off the rails (Roy the ambulance driver, the Man in Black, demon baby Freddy) for franchises, will SAW V fall into the same “trap”? We're taking about how Hoffman runs a game as opposed to Jigsaw, and the wary relationship between the two frenemies. Plus, we commend the series for leaning into its thesis statement: “all law enforcement officials are idiots” as evidenced by Agent Strahm's baffling decisions and exterior monologue we get to enjoy through the movie. We talk about the fantastic traps, the not-so-great retconning that's going on, and we stan for Jill Tuck. All this and more, this week with SAW V.
Congratulations! You've made it halfway through our series on the epic ten-part anime franchise SAW. Good for you, well done.Friend of the pod Devin Shears joins us this week to discuss Saw V, a film which makes the bizarre decision to focus less on the traps and more on the... character development? Give us what we want! This is a very cheap-looking film, and not exactly the highlight of the series... though it does have Julie Benz in it and a reliably killer ending to the Strahm-Hoffman showdown. We also talk about another Hoffman (Dustin), Alex and Ben's experiences seeing Death Grips, and Devin's time working at a Blockbuster Video in the mid-2000s. Join us next week for Saw VI where we bring back Devin and Katherine to review what is often considered to be one of the best films of the series! Also, you can now follow us on X (formerly Twitter) @TheFranchisees
oin the hosts as they delve deeper into the enigmatic world of Jigsaw, or perhaps more accurately, into the intricate thoughts of Detective Hoffman. Watch as he orchestrates his game while becoming a player himself, all amidst the backdrop of new traps and new participants. Will this fresh direction manage to captivate our hosts? Stef (witchxpudding) and Sadee (@SadeeBee) continue Sawtember with Saw V. The stakes are upped here with a 5-man endeavor that's essentially an experiment on human behavior. Will they work together, which is weird af for John Kramer to facilitate, or will every person be out for themselves - a v common theme here? This episode was edited by Stef. Visit us at ghostinthemagazine.site or follow us on twitter @gitmpodcast. Thank you Nate for the tunes, soundcloud.com/nfr-1.
The Jigsaw murders have been solved (or so everyone thinks) and Detective Mark Hoffman has been promoted to Lieutenant for his efforts in cracking the case. Agent Strahm has a sneaking suspicion that Hoffman isn't quite the hero that he presents himself as and is intent on proving to the world that Hoffman has taken over John Kramer's mission. Meanwhile, five strangers wake up in a warehouse with collars around their necks. Will they discover their shared connection and escape Hoffman's latest trap? Follow us on Twitter! MORAL OF THE STORY: DON'T WORK IN HEALTH INSURANCE. After the terrible reception to Saw V, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures finally started to realize that it was time to end the franchise. However, they wanted to squeeze in one more film before doing so, and looking back, it might've served as a better ending. With long-time series editor Kevin Greutert taking the directorial reigns, how exactly did the penultimate chapter of Hoffman's story and the main Saw series fare? Come watch with Brian and Alec to find out as they continue the MaraSAWn with the unrated cut of Saw VI!
The SAW pain train rolls on! This week we recap the 2008 entry into the franchise, SAW V! LET'S GET THIS OVER WITH... While the Saw movies aren't considered high art, the first four at least had the added benefit of important things happening and being interconnected. This one... not so much. As the studio kept biding their time until they had to end the series already, a movie was mandated to be released in 2008, whether anything resembling a proper story was ready or not. It was indeed not ready. So, come experience the filler chapter in the Saw franchise as Brian and Alec continue the MaraSAWn with Saw V!
This week, we're diving into a new release--THE POPE'S EXORCIST (2023)! We thought you all deserved a break from the grotesque world of SAW (plus we didn't finish our SAW V & SAW VI recording this week because we were interrupted by a plumber). We recommend watching The Pope's Exorcist before you listen, but we don't think you're missing too much if you don't! The Pope's Exorcist is streaming now on Netflix. The Pope's Exorcist Trailer

This season of ScaryCrit keeps coinciding with some must-watch horror releases and we'd be remiss if we didn't take full advantage! This week's episode is no different as we grab hold of A24's horror feature Talk to Me (2023), having seen it on its opening night. We think that Talk to Me is a unique film in that it operates parallel to your typical possession horror flick (which makes for some unforgettable results). Listen in as we unpack that as well as the Philippou bros.'s direction (and career beginnings), the bystander effect and what it means to bear witness in regards to social media as a narrative device, the jarring juxtaposition in framing possession as a party game, and Mia's intense and lonely bout as a grieving protagonist. This episode might be a long one but we'd like to think it's quite gripping all the same. So, take our hand and let us guide you straight into another stellar episode of ScaryCrit!
