Jigsaw puts a doctor through a game to keep himself alive as well as allows his apprentice to run a game herself that is somehow connected to Jigsaw's game.Saw III features a very sick Jigsaw who allows his apprentice, Amanda, to start taking over his legacy. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who directed Saw II and continues on to direct Saw IV. While the film isn't as strong as the first two in the series, it does add value to the series by bringing back returning characters, Eric and Kerry, played by Donnie Wahlberg and Dina Meyer and carves a new path for Jigsaw and Amanda. The movie delivers on clever traps, crazy kills, and fills in more of Jigsaw's background that makes the series more interesting. From rolling with the changes that Hollywood has undergone over the last decade and surviving through the pandemic and strikes… to how he got involved with #AMFAD… to how he pulled off the film on such extremely tight resources (the initial production schedule was just 12 days!)… to how he found a way to solve some of the craziest hurdles he faced… to the film's world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival… to BREAKING NEWS about the status of a new COLLECTOR film which Marcus received just minutes before this recording… to a discussion about which films each of the guys would remake if given the chance (and who they would cast)… to why leaning on fellow filmmakers for support and encouragement is such a pivotal part of staying sane in the business… to everyone's favorite X-FILES episode and SO much more… this extremely uplifting conversation is just what you need to hear this week and the perfect example why Marcus is one of our favorite people in the known universe.

This week we were so psyched to chat with filmmaker Marcus Dunstan. He's the co-writer of movies like Feast and Saw IV, V, VI and 3D as well as the filmmaker behind The Collector franchise. His latest film is #AMFAD: All my Friends Are Dead. We chat about his talented young cast, the potential for a sequel, and Terry manages to ask what the latest is on the third The Collector movie, The Collected. Then we dig into Marcus' childhood relationship to horror before finding out why Dawn of the Dead is his Scarred for Life pick. The audio quality might not be the best this week because one of us was recording in a hotel in Montreal and the other still had COVID. For context, Marcus shows a video of him and his childhood friends making a movie and tossing a mannequin off the roof. He holds up a number of Dawn of the Dead memorabilia (figurines etc.) and the novel he holds up towards the end (that Terry says he's halfway through) is The Living Dead by George Romero and former guest Daniel Kraus. Saw IV is the beginning of a new era in the franchise. John Kramer is Dead. Amanda is dead. Leigh Whannel is no longer writing. And Mark Hoffman is here.  What do you mean who?  Mark Hoffman. The cop who was in like 30 seconds of the last movie. Turns out the twist of IV is that a character that was barely established in the previous film is the true successor of Jigsaw. Kind of. Like Amanda, Mark isn't very good at his job--in my humblest of opinions.  At least he's hot though.  We also look deeper into John Kramer and what made him the way he was. And let's just say he had a really rough year. Listen, buddy, we all have rough years but that doesn't mean we can all just go out and start “testing” “people” on their “will” “to live”.    Guest Find Us Online - Website: www.realhorrorshowpodcast.com - Twitter: www.twitter.com/Horrorshowpod - Support: www.realhorrorshow.com/support/ - Submit: www.realhorrorshow.com/submission-guidelines/    Good Things to Support - Quileute Move to Higher Ground: https://mthg.org/  - Red Canary Song: https://www.redcanarysong.net/ - List of BLM Affiliated Charities: https://bit.ly/3wSMW47 Abortion Funds in Every State https://shoutyourabortion.com/abortion-pills/ https://aidaccess.org/ Support Families in Palestine  Credits - Host: Samantha Oty. After the dramatic reveal at the end of SAW IV, it's now Detective Hoffman's world and we're just living in it. Mike, Ari, Nichole and DeVaughn are joined again by Kat Hughes of Ghouls Magazine to talk abut the midpoint in the SAW franchise. The fifth entry is typically where things go off the rails (Roy the ambulance driver, the Man in Black, demon baby Freddy) for franchises, will SAW V fall into the same “trap”? We're taking about how Hoffman runs a game as opposed to Jigsaw, and the wary relationship between the two frenemies. Plus, we commend the series for leaning into its thesis statement: “all law enforcement officials are idiots” as evidenced by Agent Strahm's baffling decisions and exterior monologue we get to enjoy through the movie. We talk about the fantastic traps, the not-so-great retconning that's going on, and we stan for Jill Tuck. All this and more, this week with SAW V.

Mike, Ari, Rachel & Nichole are joined by Alison (Who's There? A Podcast About Horror Fans) for our fourth trip to Saw City (three more punches of our frequent travel card and I think we get a medium sized grape flavored Slurpee). This time we talk about the definitive death of Jigsaw and whether the flashback structure benefits the experience or just gives Tobin Bell a nice payday. We talk about the mystery box nature of this entry as it bridges the first trio of films with a follow-up trilogy. Spoiler warning: we talk the dual twists that close the film: Hoffman's reveal and the fact that this takes place alongside the previous entry. Plus, we speculate: what if the traps in Saw X are thirst traps, and what if Paddington 3 finds the titular bear eating racist children?    All this and more!

This season of ScaryCrit keeps coinciding with some must-watch horror releases and we'd be remiss if we didn't take full advantage! This week's episode is no different as we grab hold of A24's horror feature Talk to Me (2023), having seen it on its opening night. We think that Talk to Me is a unique film in that it operates parallel to your typical possession horror flick (which makes for some unforgettable results).      Listen in as we unpack that as well as the Philippou bros.'s direction (and career beginnings), the bystander effect and what it means to bear witness in regards to social media as a narrative device, the jarring juxtaposition in framing possession as a party game, and Mia's intense and lonely bout as a grieving protagonist.     This episode might be a long one but we'd like to think it's quite gripping all the same. So, take our hand and let us guide you straight into another stellar episode of ScaryCrit! Award-winning actor Emmanuelle Vaugier stars in Hallmark Channel's movie sequel Big Sky River: The Bridal Path which premieres on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries in the US and W Network in Canada on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 9:00 pm. The movie is particularly special for Emmanuelle as she gets to combine her love of acting with her love for horses. Emmanuelle may be best known for her popular role as Charlie Sheen's ex-fiancée Mia in the award-winning CBS comedy Two and a Half Men. For three seasons she also played Detective Jessica Angell on CSI: NY, leaving fans devastated when her role came to an end.  For five seasons Emmanuelle was the vain and dangerously sociopathic character of the Morrigan on the innovative series Lost Girl. Emmanuelle was cast alongside Piper Perabo in the USA Network crime series Covert Affairs, where she played Liza Hearn, a journalist and blogger not afraid to push boundaries. She was also on the AT&T original series Rogue as Assistant District Attorney Regan Faulker alongside Cole Hauser (Yellowstone). Other television appearances include her portrayal of Jane in the two-hour pilot of the adaptation of the comic Painkiller Jane, and a starring role in The CW comedy My Guide to Becoming a Rockstar. She has also heavily recurred on TV shows such as The CW's dramas Smallville and One Tree Hill, as well as Mistresses on ABC and the FOX series Human Target.  Recently, Emmanuelle played Sarah, a smart and accomplished professional in the television series The Potwins starring opposite Kevin Sorbo, and appeared in the comedic television series Millennial Mafia as Francesca, a female mob boss who must manage a group of young adults who are thrust into adulthood when their mob-boss parents are sent to jail.   Emmanuelle's feature film endeavors are impressive with a number of credits to her name, including Saw ll, Saw IV, Secondhand Lions, with Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, 40 Days and 40 Nights, with Josh Hartnett, Susie's Hope (a role for which she won best actress at the Greensville International Film Festival), It's Christmas Carol! (which earned her a Leo Award) opposite Carrie Fisher, and Absolute Deception alongside Cuba Gooding Jr., to name a few. Emmanuelle is adding voice-over actor to her list of projects as well, with many fans remembering her portrayal of the character Nikki in Need for Speed Carbon EA's #1-grossing video game worldwide.   Emmanuelle's inner and outer beauty shines through as she is among the select group of women to be featured on ‘Maxim‘s Top 100' list twice. She was also named fifth on Femme Fatal magazine's 50 Sexiest Women on the Planet', and was named ‘Sexiest Woman Alive' for the sixth time by Smartasses Magazine.
