Pastor Micah started a new series this week called Wisdom: A Study in Proverbs! While King Solomon was not perfect (he didn't even always take his own advice!) he did record an incredible collection of wisdom in the book of Proverbs. This wisdom is timeless; it was relevant thousands of years ago and it is relevant today. The specifics may have changed, but the principles in Proverbs are still solid and sound advice for you and me! This week we focused on defining what wisdom is, and how to pursue or gain wisdom! Here are 2 important observations I wanted to highlight in regards to the book of Proverbs:Proverbs contains general principles about how life should work.Proverbs contains examples of foolish vs. wise behavior. (Not necessarily focusing on the morality of right vs wrong)So how do we pursue/gain wisdom in our lives?Ask God for it!Seek out God's Truth! (Scripture)Listen to Wise PeopleBottom Line: Wisdom is knowledge applied, but in Proverbs we learn that Godly Wisdom is knowledge applied in a way that honors God!

Commit to daily time in Scripture and listening to God in prayer.2. Commit to daily serving someone, somewhere.

Sermon Title: Metaphors of Hope: The Second Coming in Christian ImaginationScripture Reading: Matthew 24:37-44; Acts 1:10-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 21:1-4 The belief that Jesus will one day return to earth is a central tenet of our faith. Jesus said he would return. So, all of orthodox Christianity testifies to the hope that Jesus will literally come again. Yet, we're not all in agreement as to what that will look like. How did such an important concept become so complicated, even bizarre? And why is it so critical that we exercise a disciplined imagination when interpreting Scripture? Listen to Pastor David share what the New Testament teaches about Christ's return, and why it matters that we hold to hopeful view of the future.Worship Resources:sermon video (mp4)sermon slidesAugust 26 bulletin

In our culture these days the idea of "freedom" is often seen as the license to do whatever you want. However, Scripture teaches us that we are bound like slaves to whatever we obey...whether sin or righteousness.
