Money promises security, but when we hold too tightly to what we have, it can end up controlling us. In Mark 10, Jesus' encounter with the rich young ruler reveals that true financial freedom isn't about having more—it's about trusting Jesus more. Drawing from 1 Kings 19 and the story of Elijah, we're confronted with a sobering reality—after witnessing fire fall from heaven and experiencing incredible miracles, Elijah fled in fear from Jezebel's threats. How could someone who just saw God move so powerfully become paralyzed by one threatening voice? The answer reveals something critical about our own spiritual lives: the enemy doesn't need to change God's promises; he simply introduces another voice. We're challenged to examine which voices have become loudest in our lives—fear, past failures, other people's opinions, or financial pressure. Yet we often complicate this simplicity by rejecting what we already know God has said, particularly when it requires vulnerability or surrender.
