Many of us assume that when life gets hard — when the winds pick up and the waves crash in — we must have done something wrong. But Mark 4 tells a different story.Jesus himself looked at his disciples and said, "Let us go to the other side." He gave the invitation. He set the course. And a violent storm still came. The storm wasn't a sign of disobedience — it came in the middle of God's will. In this message, Pastor Brian Johnston reminds us that storms don't always mean we're living in sin. Sometimes they mean we're exactly where God called us to be, and He is right there in the boat with us.
Faith Under Fire - Peace In The Storm Pastor Scott Snyder
Episode 143 of 2 Minute Disciple Season 5 explores the moving story of Jesus calming the storm in Mark 4:35–41. As the disciples panic in the middle of a violent storm, Jesus speaks peace over the wind and waves—and challenges them to trust Him more deeply. In this contemplative Christian devotional podcast episode, Nick guides listeners through a peaceful rhythm of slowing down, reading Scripture, reflecting, meditating, responding in prayer, and practicing a simple spiritual exercise. Together, we wrestle with the disciples' honest question: “Don't You care that we're going to drown?” and Jesus' searching response: “Why are you afraid?” This episode is for anyone carrying anxiety, fear, uncertainty, or emotional exhaustion. It is a reminder that faith is not the absence of fear—but the decision to turn toward Jesus in the middle of the storm. Whether you are beginning your morning devotion, taking a prayerful break in your day, or searching for peace in difficult circumstances, this episode will help you rest in the calming presence of Christ.
When life's storms come crashing down on us, where can we turn? We can turn to the Lord and look for His protection and provision. Join us today as we dive into a wonderful psalm that gives strength and peace in the storms of life. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. Psalm 46 is about finding peace in the midst of major upheaval. Is your world undergoing upheaval? If so, in what way? If a person did not trust God in such a storm, how would they respond? How are you responding differently? 2. How does verse 1 remind us that when we face difficulties, we can find refuge in God no matter what they are? What does the word "refuge" picture? How is this evident (or not evident) in your own life? 3. The "present help" in verse 1 speaks of active, real help from the Lord. Where have you seen the Lord help you in your storms? 4. Why kind of devastation is the psalmist referring to in verses 2 & 3? What might this look like in our lives today? 5. The "selah" at the end of verse 3 is calling us to pause and reflect on what he's just said. Take a moment and re-read verses 1-3 and summarize what they're saying here: 6. Verse 4 takes us to a place where there is no storm, no bitterness, no division, or hatred or problems at work, health, etc. Why do we need to remember that such a place exists? According to this psalm, who lives there? How are they being refreshed (in verse 4)? How do we abide "there" even when we live in a fallen world here? 7. How would a river sustain a city in these ancient times? Was there a river flowing into Jerusalem? In verse 5, why was it important for the people of Israel to know that even through there was no river in Jerusalem, the Lord was her sustenance? In practical terms, what does this principle look like for believers today? 8. Even though God's grace and peace continues in the storm, in verse 6, what do the nations continue to do as well? Why? 9. What is the Lord's response to the nations in verse 6? What happens with this response? What principle is the author teaching us here? 10. According to verse 7, who is with us? What does verse 7 say about the impact His presence has in our lives? 11. The word "hosts" in verse 7 speaks of armies. What armies does the Lord control? Why is this important for us to remember? 12. Since verse 7 ends with "selah", how about taking a moment to re-read verses 4-7 and summarizing them here: 13. Why does verse 8 call us to "behold the works of the Lord"? What works might he be referring to? Why does this strengthen our peace in the midst of a storm? 14. What does verse 9 show us about the Lord's control over the nations? Why is this important, even when the world around us is the source of our storm? 15. Verse 10 calls us to "cease striving". This could also be translated as "be still". If we're to be still, who are we trusting to act on our behalf? In your own live, are you more likely to be striving or being still the storms of your life? What would it look like to be still in these storms? What kind of faith and trust in the Lord is required to be still in this way? 16. Verse 11 repeats the encouragement from verse 7. Why do you think the author repeats himself here? 17. Verse 11 also ends with "selah". How about taking a moment to re-read and summarize the principles from verses 8-11 here: 18. In your own life, where do you need the Lord's peace? What principles from this psalm speak to your situation today? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon just in time for the Genesis relaunch in January! What do you do when the storm doesn't stop—and Jesus seems silent? In this message from Gospel of Mark 4:35–41, we explore how faith is formed not in calm waters, but in real-life storms. Are you in the middle of a storm right now — wondering if God even cares? In this episode of Chasing Happiness, I share what hit me like a ton of bricks on a prayer walk: I realized I didn't have enough faith to believe God would give me peace WHILE I'm in the storm. This is raw. This is real. And it just might change the way you see your struggle.
In many parts of the world, following Jesus can cost believers their freedom—or even their lives. Yet in those very places, people are turning to Christ in extraordinary numbers. Why? Because when everything else collapses, only one refuge holds. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef anchors your heart in Proverbs 18:10: “The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” He unpacks what it means to take shelter in the name of the Lord—not as a religious phrase, but as real security in real storms. Dr. Youssef then walks through the rich names of God in Scripture—names that reveal His covenant faithfulness, His provision, His healing, His peace, His righteousness, and His shepherding care. Everything you need is found in who God is. And in the New Testament, that refuge becomes unmistakably personal: Jesus is our Rock—the only safe hiding place when fear rises and circumstances grow bleak. If you've been tempted to trust flimsy “walls” like money, influence, or connections, this devotional calls you to the only defense that never fails: the name of Jesus—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—triple-locked protection for all who are in Christ. Prayer: Lord, I know I can run to You and find shelter and hope that does not disappoint. Help me to trust You as circumstances around me grow bleak. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Today's MY Devotional has been provided by Leading The Way. The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. If today's devotional stirred a question, burden, or need for prayer, you don't have to walk through it alone.
Life often feels chaotic. Unexpected problems, uncertainty, and pressure can make it seem like everything is spinning out of control. In Mark 4:35–41, the disciples find themselves caught in a violent storm while crossing the sea with Jesus. As the waves crash around them, they panic while Jesus sleeps. In this powerful moment, Jesus reveals something deeper than just His ability to calm the wind and waves. He shows that even when life feels chaotic, He is still fully in control. In this message, Pastor Phil Kniesel explores what it means to trust Jesus in the middle of life's storms and how true peace comes not from the absence of chaos, but from knowing the One who commands it.Send a text
Hope doesn't always look heroic. Sometimes it's a nine-year-old whispering a fearful prayer, a college student lying on the floor searching for sleep, or a friend deciding to make one more call before the dark closes in. We sat down with Author, Podcast Host and Psychology student Andelina Storm to trace how childhood loss led to OCD and anxiety, how depression blindsided her in college, and how faith and practical tools helped her trade control for peace. Her message is simple and hard: put a comma in your story, not a period.Andelina shares the moment a friend's suicide reshaped her path and why she became a Promise To Live ambassador, turning grief into a mission to interrupt the ripple of silence. We unpack the difference between everyday nerves and clinical anxiety, why stigma still lingers even as awareness grows, and how small, repeatable habits create room for breath—sleep rhythms, grounding exercises, community check-ins, sunlight, music, and even the quiet medicine of petting a dog. She explains how she channels obsessive tendencies into useful structure and why depression, more than anxiety, demanded a new playbook. We also explore her debut book, Sanity in the Storm, and her podcast, Peace in the Storm, where she blends scripture with evidence-based coping strategies to meet Gen Z where they are. For skeptics and believers alike, Andelina treats the Bible as durable wisdom for restless minds, pairing it with psychology to build an integrated approach to mental health. You'll hear a moving cameo from her father on the hidden cost families carry—and the fierce pride of watching a daughter choose life, again and again. If you or someone you love is walking through heavy weather, this conversation offers both compass and company. Listen, share it forward, and help someone add a comma today. If this spoke to you, subscribe, leave a review, and tell us: what line are you carrying into your week? In Gospel of Mark 4:35–41, Jesus leads His exhausted disciples into a storm on the Sea of Galilee, only to reveal that He is greater than the wind and waves. Just as storms could suddenly rush down from the Golan Heights and churn the calm waters into chaos, storms in life often arise without warning. Through this powerful moment, Jesus teaches that fear comes when faith falters, but peace comes when we trust His promise. If Christ is in our boat, we are guaranteed to reach the other side. Faith—not fear—is the key to surviving life's storms.

This week on the Companion Podcast, we're unwrapping one of the most needed gifts of Christmas — peace. Not the kind you get from a quiet moment, a Hallmark movie, or a candle that smells like pine needles, but the kind Jesus offered His disciples in the middle of a storm. Evan, Pastor Jon, and David talk about real peace: the kind that anchors you when your fears are justified, when the boat is actually filling with water, and when life feels more chaotic than Christmas should allow. They explore how the Holy Spirit forms peace in us, why temporary fixes fall short, how pride keeps us holding the string of our anxieties, and how humility opens us to the peace Jesus gives. If your life feels more like a storm than a snow globe, this episode is for you.
Living in a troubled world as we do, we often have to face many perplexing issues that come our way. But what a comfort is provided us by the Word of God. In Psalm 46 we read, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear ...” We trust that this searching meditation will be uplifting and encouraging to you as a believer in Christ. If you don't yet know Christ as your Saviour, you need to obey the gospel message – acknowledge your sinfulness before a holy God and accept His provision through Christ's death on the cross as your sinless substitute. Only then will you receive the spiritual life you need to fully appreciate the full blessing of such beautiful psalms where God can speak to you personally.
Rest is the outcome for those who “dwell” in the shelter of God.
Jesus and his disciples take a boat to the other side of the sea. A storm arises and Jesus calms it.
Every mother knows what it's like to stand in a storm — the kind that isn't just outside, but inside. Maybe your son is struggling, your faith feels thin, or the future feels uncertain. Today's devotion reminds you that peace isn't found when life is perfect; it's found when your eyes are fixed on the One who is.1️⃣ Peace Is Not the Absence of the StormJesus didn't wait for the weather to settle — He spoke into the chaos. True peace begins when we recognize that God's presence is bigger than our pressure.2️⃣ Focus Determines FeelingsIn the boat, the disciples saw the waves. Jesus saw the Father. What we focus on grows — fear or faith. Peace starts by shifting our gaze from the storm to the Savior. 3️⃣ Faith Doesn't Silence the Wind — It Silences the FearThe storm may not end instantly, but faith changes your reaction. When you invite God's Word into your worry, anxiety loses its authority.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/warfare-prayers-podcast-daily-prayer-devotionals-deliverance-daily-scripture-spiritual-warfare--5866282/support.

This week we discusses the passage John 6:16-21. Where Jesus shows how our faith can be tested and strengthened through him.
Peace in the Storm: When Christ is in the Boat Today's readings highlight the theme of salvation as a dynamic, ongoing journey. The first reading recalls the story of Lot's rescue from Sodom, emphasizing that Abraham's persistent prayer played a key role in God's decision to save Lot's family. This teaches us that our prayers for others are powerful and never wasted. However, salvation also requires obedience and forward movement. Lot's wife looks back and becomes a pillar of salt . . . symbolizing bitterness and spiritual rigidity when we cling to the past instead of embracing change. True salvation calls for continual conversion and openness to transformation. Jesus Rebukes Two Storms on the Sea The Gospel complements this by recounting the storm on the sea, where Jesus rebukes not only the physical storm but also the inner storm of fear. The message is clear: storms in life are inevitable, but faith in Christ overcomes fear. Peace is not the absence of struggle, but the presence of Christ within it. Ultimately, we are reminded that the Christian journey involves daily growth in holiness, faith, hope, and charity, always moving forward, never backward. Listen to: Peace in the Storm: When Christ is in the Boat --------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote From The Homily When we are with Jesus, storms are inevitable. They'll come, we'll be disturbed. But what Jesus is calling us not to be afraid. We should have faith. Faith in him. We should trust him. And it is this trust that is going to give us peace. It is this trust that is going to give us courage to move on, that Jesus is with us. Peace is not absence of challenges. Peace is not absence of weaknesses. But peace is the presence of Christ, and that's very powerful. And when Christ is with us, when we know that Christ is with us, even in the midst of storms, we shall have peace even in the midst of persecutions. --------------------------------------------------------------------- The Storm on the Sea of Galilee: Dutch Painter: Rembrandt: 1633 Uniquely, this painting was in a Boston Museum for almost 100 years, until 1990. Three Miracles: Week 3 - Peace in the Storm / Pastor Jeff Bowman by Hope City Church
Sun. Sand. Sea. And Soul Work Week 3: Peace in the Storm Peace isn't found in the absence of storms— It's found in the presence of Jesus. That day when evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side.' Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, don't you care if we drown?' He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?' MARK 4:35–41 When Life is Hard and it Feels Like God is Sleeping on the Job Sometimes Jesus Leads You into the Storm “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 Don't Confuse God's Silence With God's Absence “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 3. Say What's True, Even If You're Afraid “Pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” Psalm 62:8 4. You Can Have Peace Before the Storm Ends Your storm doesn't get the final word. Jesus does. You may not be able to calm your storm—but you can cling to the One who controls it.
As the disciples struggled against the waves in John 6, Jesus came to them walking on the water. He didn't still the storm—He joined them in it and safely delivered them. This message offers powerful reassurance: Jesus comes to you wherever you are, even in the middle of life's fiercest storms. He may not always calm the storm, but He will always carry you through it.
