On September 5, 2025, a seemingly abandoned Tesla was towed from an affluent neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills.  Within a couple days, tow yard employees couldn't get past the outrageously pungent odor emanating from the Tesla, along with colonies of insects making themselves at home in and around it.  The workers couldn't be sure what the smell was, but they knew.  The LAPD was contacted, the smell was reported and when officers arrived and opened the front end cargo area of the vehicle, they discovered two body bags containing dismembered human remains.  Whose remains were these?  Who did this Tesla belong to?  And how did all this end up in a tow yard in Hollywood?  This is the first part of a two part series on the 2025 murder of 14 year old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.Support the show

This week, we talk about Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World. We have been excited about this one ever since it was announced, and Beej was excited even before that--having called it as being a part of the 40th Anniversary stream in an episode a few weeks back.We don't know a lot of info about the game yet, but there is a pretty good amount we can read between the lines from the teaser, seeing Bianca and Nera, as well as previous installments in the Monsters series. Are you as excited as we are for this one? Also, we have a shoutout to our friend Ryan Molina for the physical release of his PS4 game, Popcorn Rocket. It's available on Amazon, digital across various platforms, and you can read about it when he talks about its production on Substack. We are also doing a giveaway for Book 4 of the new DQ Erdrick manga, so if you want a chance to win that, just comment on this post. We'll be giving one away to Patrons and one to the general public (and maybe more, depending on our moods! haha)

Before the arrest. Before the charges. Before Celeste Rivas Hernandez's name entered the conversation. D4VD sat in front of cameras and told the world exactly who he was — and everybody heard a success story. He said he lived “vicariously through other people.” He said he'd never experienced the feelings in his own music. He said he invented emotional scenarios and performed them so convincingly that millions believed they were real. He grew up homeschooled, recorded in a closet, and went from total isolation to billion-stream fame without ever learning how to navigate human connection outside of a screen. Those aren't accusations. Those are things David Anthony Burke told interviewers voluntarily, in his own voice, before anyone was investigating anything. This episode uses Burke's own publicly available words — alongside the prosecution's People's Brief — to trace the psychology that allegedly enabled what prosecutors describe: a year-long alleged double life, an alleged infrastructure of secrecy, and an alleged forty-eight-hour window after Celeste was allegedly killed during which Burke reportedly sat for a podcast interview, released an album, and attended a party. We examine the welfare check where law enforcement told Burke that Celeste was thirteen, the yearbook photo he allegedly had on his phone when they said it, and what prosecutors say he did next — allegedly paying a classmate a thousand dollars to smuggle a secret phone to her after her parents took hers away. His biggest song is “Romantic Homicide.” His album is Withered. His music video shows a body going into a trunk. According to prosecutors, the art was allegedly running parallel to reality the entire time.Burke has pleaded not guilty to all charges and maintains his innocence.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? David Anthony Burke spent his entire childhood learning to perform emotions from behind a screen — and according to prosecutors, he allegedly spent his early adulthood applying that skill to maintaining a reality nobody around him could detect. This episode goes somewhere different. We're not walking through charges or court dates. We're going inside the person. Burke grew up homeschooled, isolated, recording music in his sister's closet. He told interviewers openly that he'd never experienced the feelings in his songs — that he manufactured them from observation, from the internet, from imagined scenarios. He said the first concert he ever attended was his own. That's the foundation. And according to prosecutors, what allegedly grew on top of it was an entire parallel existence that ran undetected for over a year.We break down three layers of psychology sourced from Burke's own pre-arrest interviews and the People's Brief: the career built on manufactured authenticity, the operating system of secrecy prosecutors allege surrounded the alleged relationship with Celeste Rivas Hernandez, and the parallel worlds prosecutors say Burke allegedly maintained while touring with SZA and performing at Coachella. We examine the welfare check where deputies told Burke that Celeste was thirteen — and the yearbook photo he allegedly showed them while denying he knew her. We trace the alleged thousand-dollar phone delivered through a classmate, the matching “Shhh” tattoos, and the alleged infrastructure of concealment that prosecutors say held it all together. Then the alleged forty-eight hours: the radio interview, the album release, and the tools prosecutors allege were ordered under a fake name. Burke's biggest song is called “Romantic Homicide.” His album is called Withered. According to prosecutors, it reportedly dropped two days after Celeste was allegedly killed inside his house.Burke has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His defense maintains he is innocent and was not the cause of Celeste's death.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? D4VD admitted in interview after interview that the emotions in his music weren't real. He said they were constructed. Performed. Pulled from other people's lives. We heard that as a charming origin story. According to prosecutors, it may have been something else entirely. This episode takes a hard look at who David Anthony Burke was before the allegations — not as a musician, but as a person shaped by isolation. Homeschooled from seventh grade. No peer social environment. A digital world that came before the physical one. Burke told the CBC the first concert he ever attended was his own. He told Dazed he'd create fake emotional scenarios and channel them into content. Every interviewer heard it. Nobody connected it to anything darker.According to prosecutors, Burke was allegedly running two entirely separate realities at the same time for over a year. On one side, a rising career and public press about emotional growth. On the other, according to the People's Brief, an alleged relationship with a child held together by secret phones, alleged fake identification, and matching tattoos that spelled out the one word that allegedly held it all in place. When LA County deputies conducted a welfare check and told Burke directly that Celeste Rivas Hernandez was thirteen, he allegedly showed them a yearbook photo of her from his phone — while telling them he'd only met her once. According to prosecutors, the relationship didn't stop. It allegedly escalated. We trace the psychology of how someone allegedly builds and maintains a hidden world, the alleged forty-eight hours prosecutors describe after Celeste was allegedly killed — including the podcast interview and the album release — and the art that may have been telling the story all along: a hit called “Romantic Homicide,” a music video showing a body placed in a trunk, and an album called Withered.Burke has pleaded not guilty. The D4vd case keeps getting framed as a celebrity scandal. In this one, Tony Brueski goes somewhere harder. The death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, and the charges against David Anthony Burke, sit next to a body of work that now reads very differently than it did when teenagers were streaming it a billion times.Start with the name on the album: Withered. The shelved deluxe edition carried a subtitle, Marcescence — the botanical word for dead leaves that refuse to fall off the branch. He chose that. There's the breakout song about a homicide dressed as romance. There's the “Monster” project people are pulling apart frame by frame. And there's the whispered girl's voice that reportedly opened his shows in the dark, for months after Celeste was gone.Tony's question isn't whether some manga or some show told him what to do. He says plainly that no one credible has tied Burke to any of it, and that a viral thread is not evidence. The question underneath is colder: how much of this man was real, and how much was assembled out of borrowed darkness — and what does it say that a whole machine rewarded that darkness right up until a girl was found in a trunk.Burke has pleaded not guilty, and a preliminary hearing is coming. Nothing here is a conclusion about guilt. It's a conversation about persona, performance, and the distance between the character a person sells and the person underneath it. Stay through the close — it comes back to Celeste, and it should. Listen, and sit with the part most people would rather skip.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? David Burke grew up in a religious household. He was homeschooled. He listened exclusively to gospel music until age 13. Within a few years, he went from Fortnite montages in a closet to a world tour and millions of streaming fans. His biggest hit was called "Romantic Homicide." His debut album was called "Withered." And now he's charged with first-degree murder, sexual abuse of a child, and mutilation of remains. In the final part of a three-part interview series, psychotherapist Shavaun Scott sits down with Tony Brueski to examine the psychological profile that emerges when you place the art next to the allegations. Is there a clinical framework for understanding when dark creative expression stops being catharsis and starts being revelation? What does Burke's alleged total composure — including reportedly not reacting when publicly connected to a missing child on Discord — tell a violence psychology expert about his internal wiring? Does the trajectory from extreme isolation to extreme fame with no transition contribute to the kind of person prosecutors describe?Scott is the author of The Minds of Mass Killers and has spent over three decades working in forensic mental health, trauma recovery, and the psychology of criminal behavior. She tackles the "young and dumb" defense directly — and explains why the combination of sustained alleged exploitation, calculated alleged motive, and the alleged methodical aftermath tells a story that has nothing to do with youth or immaturity. And she speaks to the young fans trying to reconcile who they thought Burke was with who prosecutors allege he is — because that psychological wound is real, and it matters.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? This is the full three-part interview series with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott — one of the most comprehensive psychological examinations of the D4VD case produced anywhere.Scott has spent over three decades in forensic mental health, trauma recovery, domestic violence response, and the study of criminal violence. She's the author of The Minds of Mass Killers. She's worked with both victims and perpetrators. And she joins Tony Brueski for an unflinching look at every psychological dimension of the case against David Anthony Burke in the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.Part 1 traces the before — the family dynamics, the platform failures, the resource imbalance, and the repeated runaway behavior that allegedly made Celeste a target for exploitation. Part 2 examines the alleged silence — the months of public performance, the inner circle that said nothing, the witnesses who fled and were dragged back, and the family that fought to avoid the grand jury. Part 3 takes on the hardest question — whether the charges, the alleged behavioral pattern, and the creative output of "Romantic Homicide" and "Withered" point to impulsivity or something much darker.Scott doesn't soften. She doesn't speculate beyond what the publicly available information supports. And she delivers the kind of psychological clarity that turns confusion into understanding — even when the understanding is deeply uncomfortable.Three parts. Every angle. "Romantic Homicide." That's the name of the song that made David Anthony Burke famous. Lyrics about killing someone in the back of his mind and not regretting it. An unreleased track that reportedly references "Celeste" by name and describes obsession. A music video with a dark-haired girl and blood. An album called "Withered."And now, charges that include first-degree murder, continuous sexual acts with a child under 14, lying in wait, and mutilation of remains — with prosecutors alleging a financial motive tied directly to protecting the career that produced all of that art.In Part 3 of this three-part interview series, psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins Tony Brueski to confront the question at the center of this case: Is David Burke a young person who made a catastrophic mistake, or does the combination of the charges, the alleged pattern of behavior, and the creative output point to something fundamentally darker?Scott examines the psychological significance of art that this closely mirrors the violence its creator is later charged with. She addresses the "young and dumb" defense head-on — and explains why the pattern of allegations described by prosecutors is inconsistent with impulsivity. A song called "Romantic Homicide." An unreleased track reportedly naming a girl called "Celeste." A music video dripping with dark-haired girls and blood. An album titled "Withered." And now, charges that read like the art came to life — first-degree murder with special circumstances, sexual abuse of a child, and the alleged destruction of her remains.Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins Tony Brueski for the final installment of a three-part deep dive into the psychology of the D4VD case. Part 3 takes on the hardest lane: Is this a young man who panicked, or is this someone whose art was telling us something all along?Scott — the author of The Minds of Mass Killers, with over three decades in forensic mental health and violence psychology — examines where the line falls between dark creative expression and behavioral revelation. She dissects the alleged composure Burke displayed when a Discord user publicly connected him to the missing Celeste Rivas Hernandez. She confronts the "young and dumb" narrative against the pattern of charges prosecutors have laid out. And she addresses the psychological fallout for the millions of young fans who are now processing the possibility that the artist they loved may be the worst kind of person imaginable. No hedging. No easy answers. Just the clinical reality of what these allegations — and this art — may reveal.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In Mark 3:1–12, Jesus confronts the religious leaders over what truly honors God. When a man with a shriveled hand enters the synagogue, the Pharisees watch closely to see if Jesus will heal on the Sabbath—not because they care about the man, but because they want a reason to accuse Him. Jesus exposes their hardened hearts and shows that God's commands were never meant to restrict life but to restore it.This passage reveals a sobering truth: religious systems can sometimes care more about protecting rules than loving people. But Jesus refuses to let compassion be silenced. With a word, He restores the man's hand and reveals the heart of God—one that values mercy over legalism and life over control. At the same time, Mark shows us two very different responses to Jesus. While the religious leaders begin plotting His destruction, crowds from every direction gather to experience His healing power. In this message, we explore what happens when the kingdom of God confronts hardened hearts, why Jesus challenges the misuse of religious rules, and how His authority reveals the true purpose of God's law: restoring people to life.// SCRIPTURE REFERENCES //Mark 3:1-12More info at the Bible Project: https://bibleproject.com/videos/mark/ // TAKE A NEXT STEP //Want to visit or discover more about Columbia View? Body Found in D4vd's Tesla: The Full Story of Celeste Rivas Hernandez On September 8, 2025, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of a body discovered in a Tesla registered to singer D4vd (David Anthony Burke). The victim was 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who had been reported missing in April 2024 from Lake Elsinore, California. The Tesla had been towed two days earlier from a Hollywood street and impounded. When staff at the tow yard noticed a foul odor, police were called. Inside the trunk, they found Celeste's remains, severely decomposed and wrapped inside a bag. Investigators immediately launched an intensive probe into how a missing teenager ended up in a car belonging to one of music's fastest-rising stars. Within days, LAPD served a search warrant at a Hollywood Hills residence where D4vd had been staying, seizing items for forensic review. As of late September, no charges have been filed and no suspects named. The cause and manner of Celeste's death remain pending, awaiting full autopsy results. The discovery has shaken two very different communities: the music industry, where D4vd had just released his debut album Withered earlier this year, and Lake Elsinore, where Celeste's family and friends held a candlelight vigil on September 22 to honor her life and demand justice. This episode of Hidden Killers takes you through the full story, from the tow lot to the vigil, with careful attention to what is confirmed and what remains unknown. We explore how investigators are piecing together the forensic timeline, what post-offense concealment can reveal in a case like this, and why the human cost—the loss of a 15-year-old girl—is what matters most. This is not about sensationalism. It's about accountability, community, and the pursuit of justice for Celeste.
