Salesforce Commerce has a long history in the ecommerce platform market, from the acquisition of Demandware to the birth and growth of SiteGenesis. SiteGenesis was built before mobile dominated online shopping, so there are newer architectural options for SFCC customers. Many Salesforce customers are facing a big decision: stick with an old SiteGenesis version, or twist to either SFRA for a mobile-first solution or the newer composable storefront. In this episode we aim to dispel some of the concerns with remaining on SiteGenesis. Customers don't have to migrate if they have the right SI partner to maintain SiteGenesis but there are pros and cons of staying on this path that need to be understood, for example limitations with the roadmap, maintenance of 3rd party connectors, effort doing releases and maintaining performance. The market is evolving, with some Salesforce customers having already moved to SFRA or composable storefront, which is making other retailers review their platform choice. We're joined by leading SFCC agency partner Tryzens, who also have experience delivering solutions on ecommerce platforms like Magento and Shopify. Listen to Liam Downes, Director of Strategy and Success, and Shivko Rusev, SVP Salesforce Practice, share their views on how to approach Salesforce migrations and what type/size of business is best suited to the modern SFCC solution and why.

Ever wondered what it’s like to fly over the most congested, compact, and most important city in America? Flying in the stressful Washington DC SFRA is one of the most challenging airspaces in America, and makes flying in any other airspace seem easy. San Carlos Flight Center invites CFI Mari May Baratto to share the “tricks and tips” to demystify the SFRA, and break down the standard procedures. You will learn how to get in and out of the SFRA using local unpublished procedures, so when you hear ATC say “Special awareness training is required for VFR flying within 60 NM of the DCA VOR/DME” you will be prepared.  Mari will also review these special procedures and requirements so that any pilot will know what to expect while flying in this demanding area.  If you are ever planning on flying in Washington DC, or just want to delve into what a pilot might need to recognize to fly in a SFRA, don’t miss this seminar.

Anti-drone systems and shooting down drones, more legislation from California, the authority to control the airspace, the FAA clamps down on R/C and drone clubs in Washington, D.C., formation flying, drones in television and film, stealth UAVs, and the B4UFLY app. And now, for something completely different… Instead of recording this episode over Skype for an audio program, we tried a bit of an experiment and recorded a video show live on Blab.im with an audience participating. Blab is a service where you schedule a video show on the topic of your choice. Up to four people at a time with webcams can participate in the video portion. Those watching can communicate in a chat session that runs alongside the video. The audience can jump into the video when one of the four seats opens up. We were joined in the video by flight instructor and Airplane Geeks co-host Max Trescott. Mike Wilkerson from the 2GuysTalking Podcast Network also talked with us. Thanks to them and all the others who joined us live on Blab! News Counter-UAV Camera System Revealed According to Ubergizmo, Airbus have developed a "Counter UAV" system that uses sensors to detect drones around aircraft. The system then spoofs the drone's control frequencies and takes over command. Or the frequencies can be jammed to disable the drone. The technology comes from Airbus Defence and Space. Drone wars: new UAV interceptor billed as net-firing solution to rogue flying Michigan Technological University has developed an octocopter that fires a net up to 12 meters to capture rogue drones. The MTU drone can grab another drone with its net and carry it away, either autonomously or under human control. Robotic Falconry - Drone Catcher System for Removing the Intruding Drones A video of the Drone Catcher in action: Proof of concept prototype of a drone catcher system to intercept and physically remove the intruding multi-rotor drones from the protected areas (patent pending). This system offers a viable solution when force-landing or shooting the drones would jeopardize the safety. A patent has been filed. Net Gun Drone - Excipio | Flite Test In this video from Flite Test, a DJI Flamewheel F550 equipped with the Excipio Net Gun captures another drone in mid-air. Drone Legislation Would Require Owners To Buy Insurance, Get UAV ‘License Plates' California Assemblyman Mike Gatto introduced the Drone Registration/Omnibus Negligence-prevention Enactment (DRONE) Act of 2016. If enacted, this would require that drone owners obtain insurance policies, register their drones, and obtain physical or electronic “license plates” for drones. Gatto's logic is, “If cars have license plates and insurance, drones should have the equivalent, so they can be properly identified, and owners can be held financially responsible, whenever injuries, interference, or property damage occurs.” Assemblyman Mike Gatto Announces The DRONE Act of 2016 According to the press release, the “DRONE Act” would: Require registration of, and tiny physical or electronic license plates for, drones.  All efforts to hold owners responsible (for example, for interfering with firefighting efforts) require this. Require inexpensive ($1, or so) insurance policies sold at the point-of-sale, much like CRV is collected for bottles and cans.  This will ensure that if a drone hurts someone or damages property, the victim can be compensated, and is akin to the auto-insurance requirements under existing law. Mandate that drones of a certain size, and equipped with GPS capability, feature automatic shut-off technology that would activate if approaching an airport.  This technology already exists, and is critical to protecting commercial passenger flights. Implement various other provisions designed to enhance responsibility and mitigate risk. Feds to Washington, D.C., Drone Enthusiasts: You're Grounded Under a new special flight rules area (SFRA),

In this episode I take you along as my flying buddy Dave Torrente and I fly the up the Hudson River on what is known as the City Tour.  We transversed the New York Class B Airspace Hudson River Exclusion Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA), flying northbound with Manhattan on our right and NJ on our left. This is another episode in my series on things that a pilot can do besides the $100 hamburger after receiving  his or her PPL.What you will hear is the cockpit audio as we flew from HWV along the south shore of LI, past the rockaways and Coney Island, up and over the Verrazano bridge, past ground zero where we saw the new 9/11 memorials and freedom tour, past governor's island and the statue of liberty.  We continued up the Hudson past the Intrepid with the Concord on its deck, past Yankee stadium, over the GWB to the Alpine tower which marks the end of the exclusion. The cockpit audio is pretty much unchanged. I did remove some dead air but the running time is pretty close to the actual time of the flight. I did break into the audio with some comments, but I want the listeners to experience what it would be like to fly the New York Class B Airspace Hudson River Exclusion Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA). So what is the SFRA? The exclusion is airspace that has been carved out between EWR, LGA and JFK airspace and goes up the Hudson and east river. Up until 2009 it was known as the Hudson River Class B exclusion and the rules of the road were not mandatory.  On November 19, 2009 the FAA issued an amendment to Part 93 which established a Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) and defined operational procedures for pilots within the SFRA. This made the rules of the road such as where to fly, the altitude to fly, the speed to fly at and what and where to communicate became mandatory. This came about after a mid-air collision in 2008 between a fixed wing aircraft and a helicopter. What I hope that everyone takes away from this podcast, is that if you prepare correctly, follow the rules and fly the airplane, you can easily handle flying near and through some of the busiest airspace in the world.  A low time or high time pilot can add flying the Hudson Corridor as one of the things that can be done after getting his or her certificate.Check out the pictures from the flight at My Facebook album of the flightYou can find information about The Long Island Soaring Association at http://longislandsoaring.com/Shoutouts:A shoutout to Dave Torrente (@DJTorrente). Episode five of the AboutSF podcast is a recording of a 1984 interview John C. Tibbetts conducted with Science Fiction writer Frederik Pohl. John Tibbetts, associate professor in the department of Film and Media Studies at the University of Kansas, has donated recorded audio interviews with luminaries in the fields of Science Fiction and Fantasy, including Ray Bradbury, Frederick Pohl and Stephen King, among others, to the J. Wayne and Elsie M. Gunn Center for the Study of Science Fiction in Lawrence, KS. The interviews, gathered during the course of a lifetime of reading, collecting, and writing about Science Fiction, include conversations with Poul Anderson, Jack Williamson, L. Sprague de Camp, children’s book author Chris Van Allsburg, and many more. This interview with Frederik Pohl seemed like an appropriate selection for the first of the podcast episodes using the Tibbetts interview material since the theme for the 2011 Campbell Conference is “Alternating Currents: Frederick Pohl and Theodore Sturgeon.” If you’d like to learn more about the Campbell Conference, please visit the Center for the Study of Science Fiction website. I would also like to note that Mr. Tibbetts’ forthcoming book The Gothic Imagination: Conversations on Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction in the Media will published by Palgrave Macmillan in October, 2011, so everyone should check it out. Without further adieu, here is John’s interview with Fred Pohl from 1984, in which Mr. Pohl discusses his collaborations with Cyril Cornbluth, the influence of the New Wave on his writing, and even his poetry. We’re honored to have received such a wonderful donation from John Tibbetts, and we hope that this interview, and many others, may be of interest to fans and scholars alike.
