The CBS Radio Mystery Theater episode No Place to Hide tells the bleak and suspenseful story of Charles Powell, a man living under an assumed identity. Once wrongly convicted of murder, he escaped prison and was mistakenly declared dead after a charred body was misidentified as his. Freed by this accident, he built a respectable life, became a rising executive, and became engaged to his boss's daughter, Allison. His future seemed secure—until his past came back to haunt him.A former prison acquaintance, Clint Livets, suddenly appears and threatens to expose Powell's secret unless he pays heavily for his silence. Caught in a pressure cooker of blackmail, Powell and Allison resolve that the only way out is to eliminate the extortionist. Allison devises a plan to stage a car accident, but it backfires. Livets kills her before dying himself, and Powell's new life unravels.Despite Allison's loyalty, Powell is unmasked, accused of her murder, and left with nothing. In the end, he makes no defense, only asking for a quick punishment so he might “join her.”The episode mixes the familiar noir theme of a man trying to outrun his past with the tragic inevitability of fate. Larry Haines's performance as Powell drew empathy from listeners, while Jackson Beck's menacing blackmailer voice added menace. Many noted echoes of The Fugitive's Dr. Richard Kimble, with the twist of an even darker ending. Some listeners praised the suspense, the music, and the acting, while others criticized the resolution as too dismal or predictable. Still, for many, it stood out as a memorable tale of blackmail, doomed love, and the impossibility of escape.

From the neon lights of Las Vegas emerges an unexpected spiritual lesson about presence, attention, and our relationship with technology. When a family member attended a concert in Sin City, they encountered something revolutionary – the "Yonder pouch," a lockable smartphone container that prevented audience members from accessing their devices during the performance. This revelation struck me profoundly. If a secular entertainer recognizes the sacred nature of undivided attention enough to physically secure it, shouldn't we approach our prayers with even greater intentionality? The phenomenon of "phubbing" – ignoring someone to their face while using your phone – has become so normalized that we barely notice it anymore. Yet when we bring this distracted mindset into our prayers, we're essentially phubbing the Divine.Science confirms what we intuitively know: the mere presence of smartphones creates a "what-if factor" that splits our attention even when we're not actively using them. During prayer, this manifests as impaired concentration precisely when we seek deeper connection. As we enter the reflective month of Elul, this Las Vegas lesson offers a powerful challenge – to create technological boundaries around our spiritual practices that honor the profound importance of being fully present before the King of Kings. What distractions might you need to place in a metaphorical "Yonder pouch" to experience the transformative power of undivided prayer?Support the showJoin The Motivation Congregation WhatsApp community for daily motivational Torah content!---------------- SUBSCRIBE to The Weekly Parsha for an insightful weekly talk on the week's Parsha. Both parties have used the Fed as a political tool, distorting its mission and undermining trust in America's financial system. Instead of guarding price stability, the Fed has caved to political pressure, fueling inflation, bailouts, and handouts that keep Washington in power. The real solution? Stop pretending the Fed can ever be independent—and start questioning whether we need it at all.

What happens when you win a "free house" in one of America's most complicated real estate markets? Author Anne Elizabeth Moore pulls back the curtain on her experience receiving a donated house in Detroit through a writer's residency program that promised to solve her housing concerns while supporting her creative work. The dream quickly unravels as Moore discovers her "free" home carries hidden costs—not just financially, but ethically. With journalistic instinct and careful research, she uncovers that her house had been taken from Tamika Langford, a Black woman who had been making regular tax payments but lost her property through county foreclosure without proper notification. Television Star That Was A Police Detective. Rod Demery may be best known to television audiences as the star of Murder Chose Me, the gripping true-crime docuseries that aired on Investigation Discovery. But long before he became a media personality, Demery was a decorated homicide detective who had lived, and investigated, some of the most painful crimes imaginable. Now, he shares his story on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, available on Apple, Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, and other major social media and podcast platforms. The episode is also promoted across their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. “Murder didn't just happen to be my job, it chose me,” said Demery. “It shaped who I became, both as a man and as a detective.” This episode of The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast now streaming for free on their website, in addition to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major social podcast platforms. Demery's background is as complex as any case he's worked on. A veteran of the United States Navy who served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, he transitioned from military police to civilian law enforcement with a determination fueled by a tragic childhood. When he was only three years old, his mother was murdered, a trauma that would alter the course of his life. Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . Years later, while serving with the Shreveport Police Department in Louisiana, Demery would revisit that unsolved case and track down his mother's killer. As if that personal tragedy wasn't enough, Demery's brother was later convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. These painful personal experiences gave Demery a rare dual perspective, one that allowed him to empathize not only with victims' families but also with suspects. “I could still see my brother as a kid, playing with GI Joes,” he told CrimeFeed. “Even after what he had done, I could see both sides. That's what made me different.” Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. That difference translated into results. As a homicide detective in Shreveport, Demery worked more than 250 murder cases and was the lead investigator on over 60, solving nearly every single one. Most notably, he boasted a 99% confession rate. “It wasn't about tricking them. I talked to them like human beings. I didn't judge them,” he said on the podcast. “That openness, that humanity, is what got them to talk.” Now the Chief of Police at Grambling State University, Demery continues to serve his community. He's S.W.A.T. certified, an experienced hostage negotiator, and a published author. His books, Things My Daughters Need to Know and No Place for Race, are highly praised for their personal depth and social insight. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Television gave Demery a platform to share his approach with the world. In Murder Chose Me, viewers watched as he solved real-life cases, using a combination of empathy, interrogation skills, and deep personal intuition. The show was praised not only for its dramatic storytelling but for highlighting the real emotional cost of violent crime, both to families and to those tasked with solving it. “Season three had some personal cases,” Demery shared. “It forced me to re-evaluate myself, in some ways, I became more human.” In addition to his work on Murder Chose Me, Demery co-hosts Unearthed: Ancient Murder Mysteries with Professor Turi King. The show, produced by Curiosity and Off the Fence, applies modern forensic science to ancient murder cases, blending history and cutting-edge technology. But even as his career soared, the emotional toll remained heavy. Demery has been open about the price he paid in his personal life. You can listen to his stories and interview on our website for free in addition to platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. “It became an obsession,” he admitted. “If someone got shot, that always took priority. I've had girlfriends ask me if they had to die to get my attention.” Today, Demery says he's working on finding a healthier balance between his personal and professional life. He also continues to run Demery Enterprises, a personal security company that provides services to NBA players and high-profile individuals. Demery's journey, from the child of a murdered mother to one of the most successful homicide detectives in America, is a powerful reminder of how tragedy can be transformed into purpose. His story resonates far beyond the walls of a police department or the screen of a television. “Murder chose me,” Demery said once again, with quiet conviction. “But I chose to do something with it.” To hear the full conversation with Rod Demery, tune in to the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, now streaming for free on their website also on Apple, Spotify, Facebook, Instagram and other major platforms. What if moral failure isn't just a personal weakness… but something we've helped create? We've seen it too many times: another Christian leader falls. Another headline. Another apology video. But what if the root problem isn't just lust or lack of accountability… what if it's the culture we've built? In this episode, we sit down with Kris Vallotton — a leader who's walked with pastors, pioneers, and fallen giants behind the scenes — to ask the hard questions: • How do you actually prevent moral failure, not just respond to it? • What are the warning signs no one talks about until it's too late? • What kind of church culture actually fosters purity and integrity? • And when someone does fall… what does real restoration look like?Whether you're a young leader, a disillusioned churchgoer, or someone who's been burned by moral failure up close, this conversation is raw, honest, and necessary. This isn't about blame. It's about building a church culture where integrity can thrive before things fall apart.

Abby and Patrick welcome journalist and anthropologist Brian Goldstone to discuss his new book, There is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America.  A devastating and essential read, There is No Place for Us tells the stories of five Atlanta families as they join the ranks of an ever-growing class of Americans: the unhoused. Against the grain of common misconceptions about homelessness, the trajectory of these families reflects no errors or blameworthy mistakes on their part, nor still does their situation represent any kind of exception to the rule. In fact, as Brian explains, their stories expose how a variety of institutions – from housing markets to credit monitoring to policing and more – work together to actively push millions of Americans into homelessness, to trap them there, and to exploit their vulnerabilities at every turn. Moreover, as Brian, Abby, and Patrick explore, this reality is mystified by mainstream narratives, prevailing ideologies, and broader anxieties about precarity and homelessness. Unpacking questions of policy, history, and contemporary media coverage, the three discuss how misguided narratives about individual choice, moral desert, mental health, and more subvert recognition of what should be a basic right and policy priority (IE, access to housing), and confront what it would mean to cut through these and other fantasies.Brian Goldstone, There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/645871/there-is-no-place-for-us-by-brian-goldstone/https://www.briangoldstone.net/Have you noticed that Freud is back?
