Kilmihil boss Mickey Doran says his side had full belief they'd get a result against Ennistymon after they had been written off ahead of their TUS Clare Senior Football Championship tie. Following a heavy opening round defeat, Doran's charges responded with a three point win over Ennistymon leaving Group 2 with all to play for headed into Round 3. Ciarán Downes lead the charge landing multiple first half two-pointers and finishing with 12 points in total. Doran says his forwards have the potential to hurt teams if primary possession can be secured. Meanwhile, Kilmurry Ibrickane captain Dermot Coughlan is hailing the impact they got from their bench as they picked up their second win of the campaign. David Egan's side are in pole position in Group 3 after their 0-18 0-15 win over St.Breckan's and face Wolfe Tones in the final round of the group stage. Man of the Match Coughlan says the subs dragged them over the line in a close fought affair.

Today's podcast is all about being school ready. A recent report has shown that many children are not what it calls ‘school ready' by the time they reach reception. The Kindred Squared survey revealed big gaps in communication and focus, with children not being able to listen, respond to instructions, sit still or play with classmates together with issues around toilet training, being able to dress and to eat independently. The government has pledged to boost the proportion of children achieving a 'good' level of development from the current 67% to 75% by 2028. Today we're talking to Jenni Downes, principal at Erdington Hall Primary School, about her experiences of kids being school ready, and whether she thinks the government pledge is both necessary and achievable. She also has lots of tips on what we can do, as parents, to help our kids to be school ready. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Our journey begins with a lunatic on London Bridge—Roger Downes, an aristocratic gremlin with booze in his belly and blood in his eyes—whose homicidal boasting ends with his own decapitation, and a legacy that haunts Wardley Hall with a toothy grin. But the ghost of Downes isn't alone in his cursed company. We claw through centuries of death-laced ecclesiastical drama, uncovering the tale of St. Ambrose Barlow, a Benedictine martyr whose severed skull radiates holy menace from its niche atop the stairwell. In a storm-rattled manor, his head refuses to be dismissed—resurrected in legend and defiant in spirit. From there, the madness spirals further: a skull unearthed at Browsholme Hall may belong to a noble slain in Henry VIII's wrathful purge of the Pilgrimage of Grace. At Longleat, a boyish marquess gets too cheeky with a forgotten head and winds up in a ditch. And finally, the tale of the Red Barn Murderer's skull—a relic passed like a cursed baton from hand to trembling hand, leaving broken bones, smashed glass, and icy breath in its wake.Threaded through it all is the ancient Celtic notion that the skull is the seat of the soul—a cosmic belief of madness and magnificence whispered through ages. The Hosts talk ghost dogs, disembodied heads, skeletal vengeance, and enough headless horsemen to make Sleepy Hollow feel quaint. So strap in, you thrill-hungry maniacs. Volume 2 peels back the lid and dares you to look inside. But be warned—these skulls remember. And they do not forgive. Given the explosion of companies looking to hire talent from non-EEA countries, which is resulting in higher usage of employment permits, Shannon Chamber joined forces with professional services firm Deloitte to give its members an overview of the employment permits system, the changes coming on-stream, and the challenges companies face when recruiting globally. The briefing, held in the Shannon Airport House, was both timely and beneficial. It followed the publication of the results of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) survey undertaken by Deloitte in 2024 which found that retaining and attracting skilled talent is regarded as a key business risk, with 95% of CFOs polled stating they are very or moderately dependent on non-EEA nationals to fill their skills gaps. This, coupled with the fact that the Irish labour pool is tightening, with skills shortages evident in sectors such as science and technology, information technology, business and finance, healthcare, and social care, has resulted in almost 40,000 employment permits being issued in 2024. Given that employers are continuing to look at alternative talent and skills pipelines, the number of employment permit applications is likely to increase year on year. As stated at the briefing, managing compliance along with supporting onboarding to attract and retain talent is becoming critical for companies growing diverse talent pools. The presenters, Roisin Fitzpatrick, partner, and Kim Wong, director of Immigration Services with Deloitte, delved into their expert bank of knowledge to give attendees a full appreciation of the key considerations they need to factor in when hiring talent from outside the EEA. Covering topics such as eligible and ineligible roles for employment permits, right-to-work checks on employees, inspections by the Workplace Relations Committee (WRC), graduate programmes, and remuneration thresholds, attendees were advised that before their embark on any non-EEA national recruitment programme, they should be aware that an employment permit will not issue unless at the time of application at least 50% of the employees of the employing company are EEA nationals (which includes UK nationals and Swiss nationals), with a small number of exceptions. They also heard that applications can be rejected if any documents associated with the application are missing. As stated by the presenters, immigration permissions have different stamp numbers (0 to 6, with variations), with each number signifying what the permit holder is allowed to do and whether they are permitted to work. Attendees were advised to familiarise themselves with these permissions. Already aware of recent changes to employment permissions, such as a non-EEA employee's right to move employer after nine months while remaining on the same employment permit they held on arrival in Ireland, many companies, including Shannon Chamber, have made submissions to government voicing their concerns with current and proposed changes, including salary thresholds, and are awaiting the outcome of this review. Speaking after the event, Chamber CEO Helen Downes said that the briefing was delivered at a time when an increasing number of member companies are in recruitment mode in non-EEA countries. "The wheels of business must continue to turn. When companies cannot meet their skills requirements locally, nationally or in EU countries, they need to look further afield. That's why a comprehensive briefing on all aspects of employment permits was so important. There is nothing better than hearing it directly from the experts, and I know that many of our member companies will connect further with the Deloitte team. "We will be hosting a Jobs Fair in Shannon on Wednesday, 26 March, to further assist companies in meeting their recruitment needs., " said Ms Downes. Details can be found at www.shannonchamber.ie/events-training.

Clare football boss Peter Keane says there are plenty of positives to take from his side's second half display against Antrim. The Banner outscored their opponents in the second half in a three point defeat in Corrigan Park in Belfast. The hosts got out to a quick start and had 1-4 on the scoreboard before Ciarán Downes raised a green flag for Clare's first score of the game. Keane says his side left themselves a tough uphill battle, but with better conversion they could still have salvaged a result.

Produced by Wayne Hall, Joseph Cottrell, Jeffrey Crecelius and Ken Fuller It's 2025 and Mark and I are back for another year of the Yes Music Podcast. According to an online tool, it's 13 years 3 months 2 weeks and 6 days since I published episode 1. Wow. This episode focuses on Drama from 1980 - released 44 years 4 months 2 weeks and 5 days ago. Despite the shock of the dramatic lineup changes (Buggles Horn and Downes replacing Anderson and Wakeman) and the resulting initial dismissal of the album by some fans, the record is now amongst the most popular of all Yes albums. So why is Drama now regarded as a great Yes album? Mark and I have come up with our 6 reasons as you will hear in a few minutes. See if you agree and let us know in the comments for this episode. Next Level Soul with Alex Ferrari: A Spirituality & Personal Growth Podcast
In the stillness of our chaotic world, certain voices emerge that seem to carry the pulse of universal truth. On today's episode, we welcomed Pamela Downes, a gifted trans-channeler whose journey of transformation took her from the everyday rhythms of suburban life to a profound calling as a bridge between dimensions. Pamela shares the story of her spiritual awakening, a narrative rich with upheaval, discovery, and surrender to the unseen forces guiding her path.Born into a close-knit Italian-Catholic family, Pamela's early life revolved around tradition and creativity. As a classically trained pianist and artist, she thrived on expression but often felt like an outsider in a world that couldn't fully understand her. The cracks in her conventional upbringing deepened when her questions about religion and life's structures began to surface. “Who owns Earth? Why do we follow these rules?” she pondered, signaling the early stirrings of a soul yearning for liberation.Pamela's awakening was catalyzed by life-altering events: the financial crisis of 2008, the death of her father, and the unraveling of her marriage. These challenges stripped away the superficial layers of her identity, forcing her to confront the deeper questions of existence. In her darkest moments, she found solace in spiritual teachings like Abraham Hicks and channelers like Sheila Gillette and Lee Carroll. Her connection with these voices of wisdom rekindled her belief in the extraordinary power of intention. “I realized I was the creator of my reality,” she shared, recounting how her focused energy sold her house within 24 hours, defying the odds of a crumbling real estate market. As her spiritual journey deepened, Pamela began channeling messages from higher-dimensional beings she refers to as "The Council." These encounters were transformative, altering not just her understanding of herself but also her purpose. Her role became clear: to assist humanity in navigating the tumultuous shifts of our times by bringing forth divine guidance. “You are the world's director,” one channeled message affirmed, highlighting her unique ability to weave human stories into a tapestry of collective awakening.SPIRITUAL TAKEAWAYSThe Power of Forgiveness: Pamela's ability to forgive her father for his struggles with alcoholism illuminated a profound truth: forgiveness is a gift you give yourself. It is not about condoning actions but releasing the pain that binds you.Soul Blueprints and Life Lessons: According to Pamela's channelings, we come to Earth with a blueprint—a carefully crafted plan designed to help us learn and expand through experiences. The soul contracts we form with others are essential to our growth.Embracing the Unknown: Pamela's journey emphasizes the importance of surrendering to life's flow. As she learned to trust her intuition and the guidance of her spiritual allies, opportunities unfolded in ways she could never have planned.Pamela's story serves as a reminder that awakening is rarely a straight path. It is a series of invitations to step into greater alignment with our soul's purpose. Her work as a channeler isn't just about sharing messages; it's about empowering others to recognize their own divine potential. As our conversation came to a close, one particular insight stayed with me: “When you have resentment, you're holding it inside yourself. It's about you, not anyone else.” This simple yet profound truth encapsulates Pamela's wisdom—a call to release the old and embrace the infinite possibilities of love. Please enjoy my conversation with Pamela Downes.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/next-level-soul-podcast-with-alex-ferrari--4858435/support.
It's not just the MAGA crowd who are concerned with government waste and inefficiency. In a convincing Wall Street Journal op-ed, best-selling tech author Larry Downes questions the need for a thousand Social Security offices around the country. Downes argues that the federal government's resistance to digital transformation has resulted in staggeringly low user satisfaction rates - just 12% for federal government services. Despite more than 85% of federal workers being based outside Washington, there have been few serious attempts to modernize these services through e-government initiatives. While the incoming Trump administration's "Doge" team has talked about reforming government, Downes remains skeptical about implementation, citing political obstacles rather than technical challenges. He notes that while Estonia and Denmark offer successful e-government models, American reform efforts face unique hurdles, including congressional resistance to closing local offices and bureaucratic procurement processes that often outlast technology cycles. Downes suggests that modernization could significantly improve service delivery while reducing costs, though it would impact federal employment. He emphasizes that this isn't about privatization but rather bringing government services into the digital age - something that could potentially serve as a safeguard against authoritarian overreach by systematizing government processes in transparent, digital systems.Larry Downes is the author of five books on the impact of technology on business, society, and the law. His first book, “Unleashing the Killer App” (Harvard Business School Press), was an international bestseller, with over 200,000 copies in print. The Wall Street Journal named it one of the five most important books ever published on business and technology. His most recent book is “Pivot to the Future” (Public Affairs), co-authored with Omar Abbosh and Paul Nunes of Accenture. It has been nominated for the 2019 Thinkers50 Strategy Award. Downes writes the “Innovations” column for The Washington Post and is a regular contributor to Harvard Business Review. He was previously a columnist for Forbes, CNET and The Industry Standard. He has written for a variety of other publications, including The New York Times, USA Today, Inc., The Economist, Wired, MIT Sloan Management Review, Entrepreneur, Fast Company, Recode, The Hill, Congressional Quarterly, Slate, The European Business Review, The Boao Review, and The San Francisco Chronicle. Downes has held faculty appointments at The University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of California—Berkeley, where he was Associate Dean of the School of Information. From 2006-2010, he was a Fellow with the Stanford Law School Center for Internet and Society. From 2015-2019, he was Project Director at the Georgetown Center for Business and Public Policy at the McDonough School of Business. Downes testifies frequently before Congress on issues related to the regulation of technology, including those dealing with antitrust, privacy, communications policy, media law, and the role of the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Trade Commission in the 21st century. He holds a B.A. from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Chicago. From 1993-1994, he served as law clerk to the Hon. Richard A. Posner, Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He lives in Berkeley, CA.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. This time I'm sharing a chat I had with Becky Davies-Downes from William and Tilda, who, after almost two decades working in TV & film costume departments, is now sewing beautiful bags and other accessories inspired by 1940s wartime Britain. I simply had to have a more in-depth chat with her about all things 'make do and mend' as well as her previous life working in TV & film.My deepest thanks to Becky for speaking to me, not once, but twice in quick succession for the podcast! This week the South African camera operator and steadicam operator, Ashlea Downes. Among Ashlea's credits are the popular Netflix series Bridgerton on which she is working with a previous guest on this podcast, Alicia Robbins. Ashlea has also worked on House of the Dragon, Wicked, Skyfall, Spider-Man: Far From Home and His Dark Materials. Ashlea was born in Pretoria, South African in 1985. Her father, Ant, was an accountant and business owner, and her mother, Alex, an artist and art teacher. Her brother, Scott, is a hand painted sign artist. Ashlea grew up enjoying sports and the outdoors; she was a competitive rider, taking after her mother who was a keen horsewoman. She also swam, played water polo and netball but academia was not her rap. Instead she followed her father's interest in photography and her mother's talent for art. Her love of wildlife gave her aspirations to be a wildlife documentary filmmaker so it was no surprise that these influences steered her to the AFDA Film School where she graduated with a degree in Cinematography. After college, her relentless determination and ambition to break into the industry opened up opportunities that would prove the foundation of her career, and soon she would find herself being called up for the Bond movie Skyfall filming in Turkey and then to the UK to film at the London Olympics. A turning point in her career was moving to the UK shortly after where she met her partner and found steady work from trainee to 2nd AC/ loader and then making her mark as a camera operator. Ashlea lives between Reading, England and Cape Town, South Africa with her husband Karl Taggart. She is currently working as a camera operator on Season 4 of Bridgerton.
