The Power of 3 has hit the road once again. Dave and Kenny made the trip down the M74/M6 to Manchester, for John Nathan-Turner Day, which was held at the Anthony Burgess Institute. They discuss Me and Him and Who, Stephen Wyatt's play about JNT and his partner Gary Downie, and speak with producer Gareth Kavanagh about it, as well as Stephen, actor Richard Unwin who plays JNT, and JNT's biographer Richard Marson. We also get the thoughts of Blue Peter's 42nd presenter Abby Cook - a Doctor Who fan, who just happens to come from Scotland!
There's no hiding the fact that John Nathan-Turner is one of the most controversial figures in the history of Doctor Who. As the show's producer from 1980-1989, he cast three Doctors, a host of companions, and became a fixture at conventions on both sides of the Atlantic. However, Richard Marson's biography revealed a darker side to John and his partner Gary Downie, as JNT suffered from an alcohol addiction in later life, when he struggled to find work. This struggle features in a play, Me and Him and Who, written by Stephen Wyatt - author of Paradise Towers and The Greatest Show in the Galaxy - which is being performed next week. Dave and Kenny discuss John and his legacy, and are joined by Stephen to talk about the John and Gary he knew. Find out more at https://www.fatsoma.com/e/7jir2f8n/me-and-him-and-who
Our look at the making of the stories of Season 25 concludes, as we discuss The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. It was an in-tents experience for all involved (gettit?), with the story being partially shot in a BBC car park. We meet writer Stephen Wyatt, and are also joined by the Mags-nificent guest star, Jessica Martin.
In 2023 AUK studios released two CDs related to Doctor Who. Me & Him & Who is an audio drama that chronicles the life of John Nathan-Turner, written by Stephen Wyatt. First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on September 11th 2022 Two former guests on VISION ON SOUND happen to be the chief movers and shakers behind WHOOVERVILLE, an annual DOCTOR WHO convention held in DERBY in September, and this year they were kind and supportive enough to ask VISION ON SOUND to join them and take part. So, we packed up our trusty FAB GEAR and took VISION ON SOUND on the road for the very first time to do a couple of interviews in front of a live audience in the cinema at DERBY QUAD where at very short notice for them, I was kindly allowed to interview the well-known television actor FRAZER HINES (who you'll be familiar with from a whole host of shows including EMMERDALE and DOCTOR WHO) and the television writers ANDREW SMITH and STEPHEN WYATT who between them, amongst many other writing credits, wrote several scripts for DOCTOR WHO in its classic era. Any technical shortcomings in the recordings are entirely my own doing, but I hope you'll still be able to enjoy what they all had to say. With grateful thanks to FRAZER HINES, ANDREW SMITH and STEPHEN WYATT for their fascinating and entertaining insights, and STEVE HATCHER for dropping by. I've a long list of other people to thank for contributing to this week's show, including STEVE HATCHER and ANDREW MARK-THOMPSON for the invitation, kindness, and support, DERBY QUAD for all their help on the day, PAUL RIPLEY for lending us the FAB GEAR, PHILIPPA for acting as my assistant (and carer) on the day, SANDY McGREGOR for acting as my MINDER when asked, as well as all of those kind and wonderful people attending WHOOVERVILLE for just being fabulous and very supportive company, as well as FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL for all that they do, including supplying STEVE SOUTHERN's music. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show. Episode segments Edit audio

Build high for happiness will prevail! This month, the fellas close out the Seventh Doctor's era with three stories all about dystopian futures and seemingly nice but secretly upsetting societies. Sort of like Britain in the '80s, really. We've got the two stories written by Stephen Wyatt ("Paradise Towers" and "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy") and the one story by Graeme Curry ("The Happiness Patrol"), all of which have a lot of ideas and themes and metaphors and allegories, but do they have stuff like plot and character and a story? We'll find out! And next month...something very different.

In this episode Phil and Paul have another crack at a Target novelisation with The Greatest Show In The Galaxy by Stephen Wyatt. As neither Phil nor Paul are particular fans of McCoys era on TV, they were both afraid that this read would be a struggle. However, as Phil has a soft spot for this story and Paul doesn't it didn't bode well for this review but the pair of them surprised each other when they started talking and they also decide who Peggy Mount could take in a fight. And in a change to the normal schedule, Phil talks to writer Andrew Smith about Doctor Who and most importantly his 10K run in aid of the Lily Foundation, a charity that is very important to him. As opposed to a benevolent psychic eye. The Greatest Show in the Galaxy is not, as you might expect from our comments, Doctor Who. The Greatest Show in the Galaxy is actually Trust Your Doctor. What a twist! The Greatest Show in the Galaxy was written by Stephen Wyatt and aired in December of 1988Continue reading →
This time, the Who's On Target team have had to get on their bikes - yes - get on their bikes and frantically peddle across a quarry on a bike far too small for them and dressed like silly mummie's boys. Now why on Earth do we have to do that? Why - to see The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, of course!
