A tough childhood in Stoke in the 1960/70's meant Melvyn would have to stand up against bullies from a very young age, even alternating his routes home from school to avoid altercations. Finding his passion for the Armed Forces when he was a small child kept him motivated and out of trouble in his teenage years, rising up the ranks in the Army Cadets before joining junior leaders aged 16. Multiple tours of Northern Ireland & a deployment to the Gulf War later, Melvyn passed SAS Selection in 1994 and served 12 years in D Squadron, alongside our host Phil Campion. Melvyn went on to train UAE Special Forces in the middle east for a number of years, before appearing on Channel 4's 'SAS Who Dares Wins' as a DS. Melvyn is passionate about his hometown of Stoke, and now delivers motivational talks and arranges charitable events with Stoke City FC, to help those that need it. I think it's safe to say Paris Saint-Germain had one of the most exciting and successful summer transfer windows in recent memory. PSG chairman and chief executive officer Nasser Al-Khelaifi and new sporting director Antero Henrique worked their magic and the quality of the players brought in all but ensures supporters will not have to endure another season like the last one where Paris crashed out of the UEFA Champions League and finished second in Ligue 1. From Neymar Jr., the third best player in the world behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, to Kylian Mbappé, arguably the best 18 and under player in the world, PSG have set themselves up to be one of the favorites to win the Champions League. However, those two high profile names aren't the only ones to head to the Parc des Princes this summer. In the latest PSG Small Talk, Marc Damon (@MarcDamon1) discusses all of PSG's signings and departures and examines how they will impact both the player and the club. Spoiler Alert: Jesé Rodriguez to Stoke City FC will have no affect whatsoever. Then, Marc will give his overall grade for the summer transfer window. To wrap things up, our host gets into a highly anticipated fan-requested topic so make sure you stick around for that. One final note, we apologize for the audio quality for this podcast. We promise to improve that for the next episode. If you would like to send in a question or topic for discussion, email PSGSmallTalk@gmail.com and we may read it on the next podcast. Fell In Love With A Girl: An FC St. Pauli Podcast 7000km Removed
We were asked to spend some time chattiing with Who Are Ya podcast regarding St. Pauli. The co-producer David Cowlishaw just so happens to be a Stoke City FC supporter and podcaster (part of the team producing Wizards of Drivel) so once we finished off with our guest duties, we put on our host hats and talked about just what the 'long term partnership' between our two clubs might entail... Who Are Ya is working on a episode revolving around St. Pauli. Check out their previous (and excellent) episodes, and give them that famous St. Pauli support.
Burnley 1-0 Stoke. Kevin, Natalie and (briefly) James have a late-night informal chat - and declare us safe after beating Stoke at the Turf.
For the first ever time in the Wizards' completely original new show idea, Dave and Ben are joined in the studio by prolific Stoke City 'artist', Joe Barbieri. The unlikely trio discuss Joe's favourite five Stoke games of all time as well as his inductee into the Wizards of Drivel Hall of Fame and his all-time favourite Stoke kit. If you don't know who Joe is you will certainly recognise some of his design work, Mr Barbieri has worked of our podcast, Duck magazine, the Bear Pit TV and even Stoke City FC themselves. What a hero. The club's fixtures against Manchester City in the past week were also discussed at around the halfway point in the show. You can see Joe's work on his Twitter @jbdotco or follow Dave and Ben @davidcowlishaw @bajcartwright
