Do you have a Gluggle Jug? The iconic jug in the shape of a fish which makes a unique delightful gurgling sound when water is poured from it. It is a beloved product, and was even featured in an episode of The Great Pottery Throwdown earlier this year, where the potters discovered that creating a jug with a gluggle is not an easy task! This week's podcast guest fell in love with the Gluggle Jug when shown it by a friend she was having dinner with. Sophie Mahlo wanted to share her love for the jug, and went on to become distributor for the jug in Germany, then Europe and now owns the Gluggle Jug Factory itself. It's a truly remarkable story of how a German lawyer ended up saving the jobs at a factory in Stoke On Trent, and helped the Gluggle Jug go from strength to strength. Sophie shares her journey, how she manages a business from afar, how to scale the business whilst maintaining a healthy profit and the importance of valuing yourself, and paying yourself a decent wage. Tonight I will be sharing the second half of my conversation with Phil a gentleman who lives in a small village in the Biddulph area of Stoke On Trent. When Phil was younger he had some encounters with an unexplained Creature where he was shadowed in a woodland close to the Serpentine and Knypersley reservoir. One of the Creatures he saw moved across the land in a Bear-like manner, it was heavy but moved fluidly as it made its way out in front of Phil as its companion jumped down from a tree behind him. Phil felt he would be forced to confront whatever was stalking him in the darkness that night.https://linktr.ee/bbrinvestigationsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/deborah-hatswell-bbr-investigations-cryptids-paranormal-unexplained-events--2840337/support.

We don't know where you grew up or where you call home, but we're from Stoke-on-Trent. Oatcakes, Port Vale, the friendliest and funniest people on Earth. Northern Soul and the rave scene. Shelleys, Kinetic, and Golden. And, of course, Wedgwood and Brindley. Have you never heard of it? As a kid, we'd tell people we were from Manchester because everyone knows Manchester, and it's cool. But Stoke? Pah. We're ashamed to say we never sang its praises. But what did we know? We left Stoke for Manchester, seeking our fortune. But that was many years ago. And we've recently returned to the area. We see Stoke with fresh eyes now and proudly tell people that's where we're from. Funny enough, we weren't the only ones with this attitude. Stoke has an unfair reputation, which is absurd given its affectionately known as The Potteries – a creative city that creates art from dirt and is now named the World Capital of Ceramics. But despite its incredible industrial heritage, the local and national news just seems to spout negative stories, and everyone talks about its decline. But one person is hoping to change all that. Simon Davies is an industrial and product designer and co-founder of Protect-a-Pet, a company that sells his inventions worldwide, which help protect cats from the risk of free roaming. Si has big ambitions for the city. He is hugely passionate about the region and believes it's on the brink of a resurgence. A rebirth. Fed up with seeing a place in post-industrial decline and driving past derelict buildings each day on his way to work, he and some others have set up a Community Interest Company called The Teapot Factory to bring people together and drive change. He's also behind a 'netwalking' event called the Teapot Tours, the first of which was attended by a few Chamber of Commerce members and some local artists. The idea was to bring together creatives and business people, something Stoke is famous for. The walks are guided by a local history expert and end at a venue with an interesting speaker or poet. We wanted to find out more about a city with so much potential, a proud history, a talented workforce and a network of local creatives determined to make the Potteries legendary once more. Scott shares what happened when he was invited to LA to write with Robbie alongside his friends, and recalls some hilarious (and embarrassing!) moments. Rich and Scott have penned lots of swing-style songs with Robbie such as Soda Pop and On The Fence, as well as Under The Radar classics like Super Tony and Underkill. We hear about UFO hunts and an impromptu Gollum cameo at a BRITS after-party - we didn't stop laughing throughout and can see why Rob loves writing with his Stokie mates.======If there is an advert in this episode details will appear below:============**About Robbie Williams Rewind**Join husband and wife Matt and Lucy, as they rewind through legendary pop star Robbie Williams' solo career. Welcome to a very special episode where I share what happens behind closed doors and host a live coaching session with one of my gorgeous clients Joanne who is a part of my Expect Miracles 10-week Signature Program. This episode will give you a real insight into the shifts that can happen in such a short space of time; through the power of mentoring and coaching. Joanne shares her story of escaping the matrix of limiting beliefs and leaving her teaching career of 11 years. As a teacher Joanne realised that there was more to life than she was experiencing, and after a break up in 2016, she left her home town of Stoke On Trent in the UK to start a new life as a teacher in Dubai. When Joanne started to practice Yoga she went on to train as a Yoga teacher, and just two months later, she left teaching and started her own business as a Mind, Body and Soul Coach. Joanne supports women to tap into the power of their bodies, listen to their souls and say no to things that are not serving them. Her work supports women to align with their monthly cycles allowing women to have ownership of their bodies. Joanne sought out coaching with me when she realised that she had inner work to do and was still living in the hangover of life - being conditioned to the rules and regulations of the education system. Working together, I take Joanne through a series of powerful questions and deep into a visualisation to support Joanne to release any limiting beliefs around how she can run her business on a day to day basis without burning out. We also talk about the importance of balancing the feminine energetics with masculine structure, and look at the power of delegating what doesn't light you up. This episode is a must listen to if you are questioning whether you can truly have your dream life and if you are wanting to understand about the difference between manipulation energy or surrender energy in manifestation. Joanne is an inspiring testament to the power of making the leap into the unknown.Soul Diggers, I want to give you all a space where you can be coached by me for free. It's fair to say Robbie Williams knows a thing or two about change - catapulted from Stoke On Trent to superstar fame as a teenager in Take That before becoming one of the best selling artists of all time, a spotlight which came with relentless scrutiny and pressures. Robbie has achieved 13 number one UK albums, a record 18 Brit Awards and sold 80 million records worldwide. Today, he is a husband and father to four children, makes his own art which was showcased at Sotheby's in London and has just released a new album, ‘XXV' celebrating 25 years as a solo artist. There's also a big tour coming up and a biopic of his life being made called ‘Better Man', so it felt like a good time to speak to Robbie about the changes that have defined his life. In this conversation we get a real insight into his childhood, what it really felt like to join Take That, the fame game and its impact, his purpose and why he's up for trying new things, including his first experience of DJing in Ibiza. As you'd expect Robbie is incredibly giving and doesn't shy away from the big stuff. There are so many fantastic jobs and training opportunities in Stoke-on-Trent just waiting to be taken up. I recently held a jobs and skills fair with fellow MPs at the King's Hall, where more than 50 employers met with jobseekers. I spoke to some of them in this episode.

Episode 109 Michael Scardifield40 year-old Michael Scardifield, a beloved father, son, and brother known as 'Milky', was violently attacked and murdered by someone he considered to be a friend on May 30, 2015 in Stoke-On-Trent, England. Without warning, he was choked to death. Witnesses saw this 'friend' Martin Birchall leaving the scene, and overheard him saying "I think I just killed Milky". He was arrested, tried and convicted for Michael's murder, but the fact he is behind bars is of little comfort to Michael's family & friends. They can't fill the void that Michael's death has created, and they have never gotten clear answers as to why Michael was taken from them. Michael's brother, Eugene Scardifield discusses Michael's life and tragic death, and opens up about the impact his loss has had on their family.Visit the Facebook group that Eugene has started to honor his brother's memory-https://www.facebook.com/OurMichael1975Visit the Facebook support group for siblings of murdered siblings-https://www.facebook.com/groups/108429319740793Visit Amazon for books that Eugene Scardifield has written-https://www.amazon.com/Eugene-Scardifield/e/B088KS926X?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1&qid=1652546946&sr=8-1This episode is sponsored by Every Plate America's Best Value Meal Kit.Listeners of The Murder in My Family can try EveryPlate for just $1.79 per meal by going to EveryPlate.com and entering code family179To support this podcast with a donation, you can do so via Patreon at:https://www.patreon.com/TheMurderInMyFamilyor through Paypal at:https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/themurderinmyfamilyTo contact the podcast or learn more about the case we discuss, please visit:TheMurderInMyFamily.com

In this episode of Girls On Film, we focus on the fantastic feminist period drama, The Colour Room. The film tells the story of working class Clarice Cliff, the first female ceramist in the pottery factories of Stoke-On-Trent, England, who revolutionised her workplace in the early 20th century. Her mantra? ‘It doesn't make me any less of an artist to have a little fun at work.' The Colour Room has a feminist narrative, but it's also an universal story about following your dreams and believing in your talent. Our host Anna Smith is joined by the female force behind The Colour Room: four women who epitomise the spirit of Girls On Film. They are the director, Claire McCarthy, the writer Claire Peate and Caspian Films producers Thembisa Cochrane and Georgie Paget. Clarice Cliff wanted to enjoy her work and have fun while doing it – and our Girls On Film guests clearly did the same making The Colour Room. The four discuss their 2022 BAFTA longlisted film, starting from their discovery of Clarice Cliff and her work, to how they came to work together to tell her story. The conversation delves into Phoebe Dynevor's and Matthew Goode's brilliant performances as Clarice Cliff and Colley Shorter. The Colour Room is now available to watch on Sky Cinema. Neurodiversity, Emma Bridgwater and Becoming by Michelle Obama Most of us, when thinking about diversity will be thinking about a diverse workforce having people of mixed ages and gender, include people who are both disabled and able bodied and from different backgrounds but maybe we should be thinking deeper about the elements of our brains which differ and this is where neurodiversity comes into play. The conditions of ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia make up ‘Neurodiversity'. Neuro-differences are recognised and appreciated as a social category on par with ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or disability status. Building a team where people think in different ways can provide in depth, robust and creative results in a way that a group of likeminded ‘conventional' individuals could only dream of. This week we take a look at what we mean by neurodiversity and the benefits businesses can take from a team which is neurodivergent. It's been a while since we reviewed a biography or autobiography so we decided to take a look at Becoming by Michelle Obama. Her story from a simple childhood to the wife of the President of the United States is a interesting one and she, successful in her own right, speaks candidly about how she came to be at that stage in her life. If you get the chance to listen to the audio book, her voice is soothing and very easy to listen to. She tells her story very well. We also took time to watch the documentary Becoming too which show us more of how she operates as she carries out her book tour. Female businesswoman Emma Bridgwater takes us back to Tracy's roots in Stoke On Trent and The Potteries. Founded in 1984 the business grew to become the household name that it is today and alongside her husband they grew the business from a turnover of around £30,000 in year one to £8million in 2009 and £11 million in 2010, employing 180 people in a sector that had been shrinking year on year as cheaper imports put many of the original potteries out of business. If you like what you hear then perhaps you would considering buying us a coffee (we love coffee!), or a book (we also love books!) www.buymeacoffee.com/tbcpodcast

I'm proud to see a local company coming up with an ingenious invention to clean up our public transport and make it Covid-safe safe for passengers. I joined Simon Whitney from V-Stop on a D&G bus at their depot to see it in action - the sanitiser is pumped into the bus through nozzles and kills up to 99% of viruses and bacteria. Incredible.
