Happy Holidays to all of you apes, gorillas, orangutans, chimps, and you damn dirty humanoids! After a very long hiatus (apologies once again), we are back with a HOLIDAY SPECIAL. In this episode we finish our series on the Planet of the Apes unproduced TV script breakdowns with “Hostage.” But this time we bring in a full cast! We had a blast going through this script and even left in a lot of bloopers, gaffes, and screw-ups.    “Hostage” was written by Stephen Kandel, who has written scripts for Star Trek, The Bionic Man, Bionic Woman, Dukes of Hazzard, Charlie's Angels, Wonder Woman, Batman, CHIPS, Love Boat, Dynasty, Hart to Hart, and The New Mike Hammer.  “Hostage” is dated April 5th, 1974.    Story Synopsis   Galen, Virdron, and Kovack stumble upon the meeting place for the UFF - United Freedom Force - which is an outlawed civil rights group composed of humans and apes who wish to overthrow the Simian government and replace it with a more tolerant system.    Full Cast Credits   Richard and Kevin would like to thank Sarah Woloski, Mark Oguschewitz (UnderexposedCinematicTreasures.com), David Braun, Anthony Pomes, Patrick Izzo, and Bryn MacKinnon for their participation and hard work. And a big thank you to those who sent in holiday greetings including Bobby Porter and Paul Williams.    Now go ape, and have a happy and Urkotastic holiday season!   Contact Us   Email: Apestv@SkywalkingThroughNeverland.com   Tweet: @Skywalkingpod   Facebook: Talking Apes TV   Subscribe on iTunes | Stitcher | YouTube   Subscribe to the Skywalking Network Newsletter for News & Special TeePublic Discounts     About Talking Apes Podcast   Richard Woloski and Mark Oguschewitz take a look at the unsung PLANET OF THE APES TV series from 1974. Happy Holidays Ape Fans! Welcome back to our new Talking Apes TV spin-off! For those of you who are just finding us let me catch you up: Talking Apes TV just recapped and broke down each episode of the live action and animated POTA TV series. But now since there are no more TV shows to argue over, we are branching off to talk with authors, actors and those in the Ape fan community. In this episode we have a great discussion with E.C. Gaska, author of the short story ‘The Unknown Ape’ from ‘Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone’. He is also the author of the graphic novel, ‘Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes’. E.C. was currently tasked by Fox to straighten out the official Apes timelines for a more cohesive universe that contains many alternate “lanes”. If you’ve read ‘The Unknown Ape’, you’ll agree that FOX chose the right man! We also read some emails from the Apes listeners who help us choose a name for this spin-off show since we are no longer just talking about the Apes TV series. And listener Mark De Vattimo sends us a holiday gift with an Apes inspired song, ‘Pianetta Della Schimmie’ from his band, Psychonaut! And always remember, Apes Together Strong! Now Go Ape! This episode also covers recent speculations over the Gary Dubin/Felix Silla debate and how Battle for the Planet of the Apes plays into all this. We also review the short story, ‘The Unknown Ape’ - by Andrew EC Gaska, from Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone. WIthout giving anything away, this story features characters from both the Apes TV series and the films! Great story that answers lots of timeline questions. We couldn’t leave off without our thoughts about War For The Planet Of The Apes, the third film in the new Apes theatrical films. Judging by the box office number lots of Ape fans have seen the film. Just in case you hadn’t, we keep it as spoiler-free as possible. With that, Talking Apes TV will be going on hiatus. We covered everything we could when it came to Apes on TV. But we will be back as we’re sure there are more classic Ape stories to cover. And we will be leaving our Facebook page up to stay in touch. Synopsis General Urko has been relieved of his military duties because of his recent negligence involving his leadership and the failed attempts at capturing Blue Eyes and his friends. Lots of questions to be answered. Will they believe these two trusted chimpanzees? What will be Urko’s fate? Will there be a cliff-hanger that will leave us dangling for 42 years? Mark and Richard also discuss the short story from Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone titled, ‘Who is this Man? What Sort of Devil Is He?’ by Robert Greenberger. This story takes place right after the fan-favorite episode from the live-action TV series, ‘The Trap’, and forces Urko into a deep discussion with his son. About the humans. Hey Hey Ape Fans! We are back with an all-new show where we look at the episode from Return to the Planet Of The Apes, Mission of Mercy. This was the 11th episode in the series and originally aired November 15, 1975. Show Synopsis As a result of the dog fight with the flying dragon creature in the episode Screaming Wings, most of the plane's fuel is gone. Bill, Jeff and Judy must replenish the fuel somehow since it is their only way to keep watch over the mountain pass to New Valley. Using an abandoned gorilla truck, Bill and Jeff leave to find more fuel. Meanwhile, Urko orders his troops to find some way of getting into New Valley to capture the humans. Shortly after Bill and Jeff have left, Nova becomes very ill. Thanks to Ron’s 21st century medical training he diagnoses the symptoms as a very contagious lung disease that I can’t pronounce, which is fatal after seventy-two hours. Now Judy has to race to find Cornelious and Zira who just may have the serum... Giveaway! But that's not all! We have a new contest where we will be giving away a copy of the new Planet of the Apes: Tales From the Forbidden Zone courtesy of Titan Books. On our last episode we spoke with co-authors and editors Rich Handley and Jim Beard as well as author John Jackson Miller to get you excited about this new book set in the classic Apes era. We also give our spoiler-free review of the book, and point out a favorite passage. Without giving anything away it does have to do with a top-heavy head garment worn by Urko. We tend to think that was a wink and a nod to Talking Apes TV, but we could be wrong. To Enter Contest Go to Facebook.com/Talking ApesTV and see the post pinned to the top of the page. All you have to do is comment about what classic Apes character you are most excited to read about. You can't just like the post you have to comment. Contest ends midnight PST March 1, 2017. We are taking our customary break from reviewing an episode of the animated series, Return To The Planet Of The Apes, to talk with some special guests. On January 24, 2017, Titan Books will release the anthology book, Planet of the Apes: Tales From The Forbidden Zone based on the characters and situations from the classic era.  On this episode we will be talking with co-editors and story contributors Rich Handley and Jim Beard. These high-energy guests tell us about the making of the book, what authors were chosen and which writers were interested but couldn't fit it into their busy schedules (no spoilers but one of these writers has written science fiction/fantasy films based a long time ago in a galaxy far far away). They even hint at whether or not any of the authors had written a story based on the mystery of Urko's helmet!  We also talk with John Jackson Miller, an author who has played in many of our beloved universes from Star Wars, Star Trek and Halo. He tells us about his story and where it fits in the classic ape era and how he used TV appearances by Ape actors in his plot. He also talks about his new Star Trek and Halo books and graphic novels. We want to thank all the Talking Apes TV listeners who posted questions for Mr. Miller on our Facebook page. We also say goodbye to our dear friend, Gary Dubin who passed away in early October. We had lots of laughs as we dove into the 'was he/was he not' the young gorilla in the original Planet of the Apes film. Whether he was or not, we were lucky enough to meet him at an apes autograph signing last year. He will be deeply missed. Then we dive into the episode Attack from the Clouds. This is the 10 entry in the Return to the Planet of the Apes series which aired November 8, 1975. In this episode we continue with the theme of giant monsters when a a flying dragon creature is seen over Ape City. Urko believes it is his stolen plane being used in a secret plot to overthrow him. The dragon creature moves on and finds a food source in humanoid-land known as New Valley and begins attacking. Meanwhile Bill and Judy go to to locate the stolen plane from a previous episode before Urko before finds it which would spell certain doom. Hey Hey Ape Fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We kick off this episode by looking at some awesome costume cross-overs from Star Wars Celebration Europe. These have got to be the best we've ever seen - Planet of the Star Wars! Fans dressed as vintage Apes wearing Stormtrooper, X-Wing and TIE Fighter pilot uniforms. All lead by Darth Zaius. Speaking of crossovers, Boom Comics who mashed-up Star Trek and Planet of the Apes is at it again with - Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes! We review the details as given at time of recording for this 5 issue mini-series. When war between man and ape breaks out, which side will Caesar and his brother Tarzan choose? First issue to be released 9/28/2016. "Trail to the Unknown" Synopsis (Airdate 11/1/1975) Bill, Jeff and Judy have to get the humanoids away from their home before Urko’s imminent attack. They build rafts and sail away to their new home in New Valley (as foretold in Tunnel of Fear). Meanwhile in Ape City, Dr. Zaius visits Cornelius and Zira to thank them for stealing Urko's plane (as seen in last episode ‘Screaming Wings'). By doing so, Zaius feels that Zira and Cornelious have saved simian society from Urko's dictatorship. Hungry for power, Urko has tracked the humans to their new home and plans to destroy them once and for all! We have a blast reviewing this episode since we are starting to see the bigger story. They better hurry up since there are only 4 more episodes to the series! It's always a bonus when the writers think about continuity and include Easter eggs from the films and live-action TV show. And we see Urko spiraling further into iNsaNity! During a commercial break, we hear a commercial for a toy that we're sure Urko played with as a child. Probably made him into the Apes is he today. And we hear from MEGO and their KISS collection of figures. (WARNING: Once you hear that commercial jingle, you WILL be singing it for days.) Listen, have fun, and Go APE! Did you even know there were animated series based on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? Police Academy? Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz? We're so lucky to have the Internet these days. We are very excited to have become fast friends with another simian podcast. Not apes, chimpanzees or orangutans, but Monkees! On our last episode we learned of the many connections between the Planet of the Apes TV series and The Monkees TV series, and we learned this from Zilch: A Monkees Podcast. Hey Hey Ape fans! This week on Talking Apes TV, Richard makes a connection between Planet of the Apes and another one of his passions, The Monkees (how ironic!). Then we dive deep into River of Flames (aired 10/18/1975). This is the 7th episode and now the half way point in this series of only 13 episodes, 1 less than the live action series. "River Of Flames" Synopsis Krador, the Underdweller, enlists the help of Bill and Jeff to help their world from being destroyed by the suddenly-active volcano. They suspect a trap, however if it is true than Judy will be in danger. Meanwhile Galen and Zira are battling over government funds with Zauis so they don?t go to Urko and his human-hunting agenda. Ape History class begins as we go back in time to visit the Adventures on the Planet of the Apes comic book and Planet of the Apes magazine. You have to give Fox credit for trying so hard to relaunch their ape franchise again and again. Sadly this was also a short lived series that ended after 11 issues in December of 1976. This comic series features colorized reprints of the official movie adaptation of POTA and Beneath the POTA which had been originally printed in Marvel?s POTA Magazine (which ran for 29 issues from 1974-1977 - FEB). Hey Hey Ape fans! Are you ready for another fun-filled episode of Talking Apes TV? We certainly hope so! On this month's show we discuss the 6th episode from the Return to the Planet of the Apes animated series, Terror On Ice Mountain which aired on November 22, 1975 (this episode should have been called "The forever-falling hot air balloon." or "Plot-jumping of the Apes") Synopsis During an archaeological dig, Cornelius uncovers an ancient, human book called, "A Day at the Zoo." He explains to Zira that this book would be deadly to the humans if it ever fell into Urko's hands. When Bill and Jeff see the book, Jeff wants to show the high-council so that the truth of the planet will be known, but Cornelius, fearing their safety, wants to hide it on the snowy mountain of Ghar. If you're a longtime listener of Talking Apes TV you'll know what we mean when we say this is the equivalent to the 'Horse Race' episode from the live-action series. Not the best episode to watch but the best episode to tear into because of all the plot glaring plot holes. Sometimes those episodes make our show so much fun to record. Being an episode from 1975, we play commercials from that era. Who had the Evel Knievel Dragster toy? Or a portable tape recorder/player which was Dyno-Mite (wait what does that mean?) Hey Hey Ape Fans! We celebrate our one-year ape-iversary of Talking Apes TV with this special episode of controversy! Richard and Mark give you an update on the Felix Silla/Gary Dubin debate. The little gorilla boy in the original Planet Of The Apes film should've said, "Guess who I am?!" instead of "Look it's a Man!" And if that wasn't enough, there was "Who's that Zira?" controversy. What episode of Return to the Planet of the Apes are we covering this time? If you look at some sources then you would have watched Lagoon of Peril. But if you look at other sources then you watched The Unearthly Prophecy. After taking apart this puzzle, we came to the conclusion that story-wise, The Unearthly Prophecy, would come as the third episode in the series. So that is the one we are covering. THE UNEARTHLY PROPHECY: While escaping from Urko and his soldiers Bill and Jeff find a secret door that leads underground. There they meet - The Underdwellers - cloaked humans with special powers. Hey Hey Ape Fans! We are back with the introduction to the animated ape series, Return To The Planet Of The Apes! This 1975 series kicked off with the episode Flames of Doom. Who remembers watching this 1975 series that just ran 13 episodes on NBC? Who remembers the "stylish" animation? Richard and Mark discuss this first episode and how much went over their heads when they watched it as kids. Flames of Doom starts with three astronauts who are sent on a outer space mission only to return to Earth 2,000 years later. In their debut adventure they witness talking apes who drive military vehicles, a woman named Nova, and, we see the return of fan-favorite General Urko who sounds like he wants to belt out "Yabba Dabba Urko" Listen in and GO APE! Hey Hey to all you Chimpanzee's, orangutang's and helmet wearing gorillas. In this episode of Talking Apes TV we wrap up the live-action Planet Of The Apes series. Joining Richard and Mark is artist and longtime Ape fan all the way from the UK - Paul Bateman. We give you our ideas of where we would want the show to go if CBS asked for our input for a second series and beyond! Which they could've produced seeing how there were more scripts ready to go. We go over these stories and see how they could've been handled. (Personally we wanted to see Galen in a 10 gallon hat. Listen and find out what that means.) We are also going to look at the 1981 wrap arounds Roddy McDowell shot as Galen when ABC recut the movies into 5 TV presentations! And we're also going to read some listener feedback. Thanks to all who wrote in and gave us information we didn't know about the series. Urko. Orko. Urko. Orko! Which is it? Urko himself weighs in on this heavily discussed debate. As we wrap up the live action series we want to thank everyone who made this an Urkotastic ride. Now onto the animated series from 1975! Now go Ape!

Hey Hey Ape fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an entertaining look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years. In this episode we look at the last show in the Planet Of The Apes TV series, #14 "Up Above The World So High". Like the last Apes episode, "The Liberator", this one has an uncertain air date. (However we've come to the conclusion that it aired on 12/20/1974). Synopsis: Alan, Pete and Galen encounter a human named Leuric who is experimenting with flight in a hang-glider he has built himself. But when he is captured by Commander Konag and his troops he is ordered to be executed. That is until a female chimpanzee scientist steps in to save him. Is she doing this for Leuric or for her own devious plan? How does this episode stack up to the rest? Do we get a satisfying series finale? Do we see Urko with or without his helmet? Listen in and find out! Don’t worry, there will be MORE Talking Apes TV! From here, we will delve into interviews with the stars and authors from the Planet Of The Apes world. Hey Hey Ape fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an entertaining look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years. "The Liberator" is the 13th episode of the series and the most controversial because of its subject matter of slavery and atomic bombs. Many sources list this episode as "Unaired" - possibly because it was pre-empted in one or two major markets. However, both CBS-TV records and Neilsen Ratings data testify that it was shown in some areas. In "The Liberator" Alan, Pete and Galen are captured by a village who is forced to give up five human slaves to their ape overlords to work in the mines. The leader of the village sacrifices the unwilling humans to their god in a fatal ceremony. The temple where this is held turns out to be an ancient ruin where a poisonous invisible gas is manufactured. We also reveal the final winners of our Planet Of The Apes TV soundtrack! Thanks once again to LaLa Land Records for donating these CD's. Next week we look at the FINAL episode, "Up Above The World So High." After that we have so many great episodes planned such as Ape interviews with fans, actors and authors as well as starting up the Planet Of The Apes Animated Series. Until then, GO APE! The trio returns to assist, only to find themselves sealed in by a quarantine. Alan and Pete butt heads with Dr. Zoran, a chimpanzee sent by the High Council to experiment on the humans. At the same time, Urko wants to burn the village to the ground, with everyone inside it. We also reveal the two new winners of the Apes CD soundtrack provided by La-La Land Records. Also on this episode we are going to read some listener feedback from Facebook, Twitter, iTunes and email. We’re also going to see how POTA crosses over into the Star Wars universe. And we reveal the WINNER of the Apes TV series box set!!! (Keep your hairy paws crossed!) We love when you tweet at us during the show: @SkywalkingPod with hashtag #TalkingApesTV. Welcome to the first episode of Skywalking Through Neverland's new spin-off miniseries "Talking Apes TV" - where we take a look at the unsung Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974. The 40th anniversary of the TV show demands that we do this! But I am not alone. Hosting alongside with me is not my beautiful wife JediTink Sarah, but the Skywalking Through Neverland creative consultant, Mark Oguschewitz. In our intro episode we give you a refresher of the films and the reasons why the Planet Of The Apes series is so important and has held up over the decades! One word - subtext. What are the Apes movies really about? Each film represents a sign of the time, and the issues the world was dealing with during the years 1968-1973. And what episode is complete without including the disco mega-hit - Apes Shuffle!  We love feedback! Please email us at apestv@skywalkingthroughneverland.com
