Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast

In episode 2 of Totally Tell Me Everything -- a monthly podcast hosted by podcasters and friends, Sarah Woloski and Bryn MacKinnon -- we tackle the topic of Space! As always, we've got three questions to ask and answer about this episode's topic, so let's get to it, shall we?   Question 1: What is it about space and how did your interest in space begin?   Bryn kicks off the conversation (and reveals just how old she really is) with the Space Shuttle program and then quickly diverts us to a downer story about the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster in 1986. Small redemption in the story about seeing the final space shuttle, Endeavor, on its trip to the California Science Center. Sarah saves the day by sharing the very relatable story of building a remarkably accurate model of the solar system in 3rd grade with her engineer father, Peter Heitman, which sparked her interest in the vastness we call space. We talk at length about the excellent space/science/romance movie, “Contact,” starring Jodi Foster and Matthew McConaughey. And let's not forget Sarah and her mother's shared love of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast

Welcome to the very first episode of Totally Tell Me Everything, a monthly podcast hosted by podcasters and friends, Sarah Woloski and Bryn MacKinnon. Since this is our first episode, we start with a little info about who we are, how we met (thanks to our other podcasts, Skywalking Through Neverland and Window to the Magic), what we're into (we share a lot of fandoms and also have many that diverge), and what you can expect from our show (one fun topic, three burning questions, lots of fun conversation! Check out the podcast that inspired our format, Wonderful). Then we dive right into this month's subject: LIPSTICK! Our hosts explore lipstick as therapy, lipstick as power, lipstick as a connection to family, lipstick's role in history and so much more.    Question 1: What does lipstick mean to you? Bryn talks about her Lipstick Nana, Avon mini lipsticks, office life and lipstick, and Cover Girl's “Iceblue Pink” Sarah tells us how moving to California for college, swing dancing, and interest in retro styles gave her the opportunity to move from “shy kid” to confident young woman, especially thanks to Besame Cosmetics' “Red Velvet,” Sarah's first perfect red lip color.   Question 2: What did we want to learn about lipstick? Thanks to Sarah, we get deep dive on the history of red lipstick, taking us all the way back to Ancient Egypt and guiding us to the Middle Ages, the Elizabethan and Victorian Eras in England and the United States in the 1910s and beyond, starting when the Suffragettes used red lipstick as a way to get their message out about women's rights, and then hitting on important moments in red lipstick in nearly every decade until today.   Related links: Middle Ages: Reading Our Lips: The History of Lipstick Regulation in Western Seats of Power Elizabethan Era: Fashion History Lesson: Red Lipstick has a Tumultuous Past Victorian Era: The Complete Annotated Murder on the Links Suffragettes:  The Sordid, F*cked Up History of Red Lipstick Compacts and Cosmetics Racism, Sexism and the Black Women's Separate Fight for Suffrage “It's a Struggle They Will Wage Alone.” How Black Women Won the Right to Vote Vanguard, How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote and Insisted on Equality for All 1910s: First twist-up lipstick 1920s: Red lips stigmatized 1930s: Lipstick de-stigmatized 1940s: Lipstick symbol of women's resilience during wartime, boosts efficiency 1970s: Red loses popularity, some feminists protest against makeup, male gaze Cruelty-free cosmetics: Double-check that your favorite brands are truly cruelty-free.   Question 3: What's something “lipstick” that you're excited about right now? Sarah is head-over-heels for Besame's “Wild Orchid” lipstick, a gorgeous recreation of a popular lip color from 1952. It's a deep fuschia red with a little bit of shimmer. It looks great and feels great, and she'll often put it on at 10pm just because it makes her so happy! Bryn is stoked on reds in all their forms, bright, soft, neutral and more. She loves the versatility of red lipstick and notices that she's going bolder with lip color as she gets older, and she loves it.    Final Thoughts Thought fandoms like Star Wars, Disneyland, Marvel, and Harry Potter may have been why Sarah and Bryn first connected (and continue to bring them lots of joy), who would have thought they'd become even closer because of their shared love and admiration for lipstick, this little “boost in a tube.” Lipstick is so much more than just lipstick, isn't it?   Huge thanks to the totally talented “John Williams of Podcasting,” Rob Dehlinger, his wife, Lisa Dehlinger, and their daughter, Zoe, for our super theme song. Check out his stellar band, the Alpha Rhythm Kings.    Thanks for joining us for our first episode! We hope you'll come over and sit by us for our next conversation, episode 2...about Space!

Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast

It’s a Halloween Holiday Special!! Will we be doing most of this in Wookiee grunts and growls? No. Will there be a 7-minute erotic interlude from Diahnn Carrol? Most likely not! Will we be singing about a day of peace and a day of harmony? Nope! But we will be going over some of the most compelling Halloween questions from our childhoods and beyond. We recorded this episode live on Facebook and YouTube, which means we have plenty of your responses as well! So let’s find out those deep, compelling Halloween mysteries like: Favorite Monster Cereal? Candy you eat vs. Candy you toss? What is the horror film that’s kept you awake most nights? What’s your #1 Halloween tradition? What are you doing this year to make Halloween special?    On this episode, we also announce the Skywalker of the Month! Composer and bandleader Rob Dehlinger composes these amazing jingles. Join Richard and Mark as they give their favorite and least favorite episodes, guilty pleasures and most controversial moments between Mark and Richard as they argue over ice mountains, pigs, vampires and puddle sizes! This episode also covers recent speculations over the Gary Dubin/Felix Silla debate and how Battle for the Planet of the Apes plays into all this. We also review the short story, ‘The Unknown Ape’ - by Andrew EC Gaska, from Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone. WIthout giving anything away, this story features characters from both the Apes TV series and the films! Great story that answers lots of timeline questions. We couldn’t leave off without our thoughts about War For The Planet Of The Apes, the third film in the new Apes theatrical films. Judging by the box office number lots of Ape fans have seen the film. Just in case you hadn’t, we keep it as spoiler-free as possible. With that, Talking Apes TV will be going on hiatus. We covered everything we could when it came to Apes on TV. But we will be back as we’re sure there are more classic Ape stories to cover. And we will be leaving our Facebook page up to stay in touch. We want to thank all you Apes fans for listening and sharing your feedback with each episode. We also want to thank Angela Rushmere for taking care of our Facebook page, Rob Dehlinger for composing our theme song as well as the specialized jingles used in the show and Sarah Woloski for creating the artwork and posting the shows for you to hear. Julie Andrews, Disney Cruises, and a Skywalking Soundtrack?? This episode is chock full of announcements in an Expanded Edition of Things We Want To Share!   Skywalker Lori Lezotte joins us to tell her Skywalker Story. But before we get into that, we announce last week's Seen Unseen Giveaway WINNER! Who won this beautiful set of books by author Russell Flores? Things We Want To Share, Expanded Edition Julie Andrews will star in Netflix Original series “Julie's Greenroom” for preschool kids! Not only will this star Julie Andrews, but it is co-created by Julie and her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton. The entire show is promoting the performing arts, which Sarah can really get behind. The Force Awakens has finally left the theaters, but it has left an indelible mark on the history of movies. Skywalking Disney Cruise! We are teaming up with Randy Crane of Stories Of The Magic podcast for an epic listener cruise, and y'all are invited!  We'll be sailing on the Disney Wonder out of San Diego for a 5-night Baja Mexico cruise September 17-22, 2017! We'll be able to dine together, do a port adventure together in one of the ports, and even do some fun hangouts like a live podcast recording and meet-up, a “Faith and the Magic Kingdom” chat by Randy, and more–all optional and all family friendly, of course! Participate in as many or as few of the group activities as you want to. And the more people we have in our group, the more options we'll have to do cool things! Luckily, Randy Crane is helping us plan all of this, as he is also a Authorized Disney Vacation Planner. Hey Hey Apes! We teased at the end of our last episode that we were going to review the episode, 'Screaming Winds' from the Return to the POTA series but we’re going to take our customary mid-series break to talk with some friends old and new. We are very excited to have become fast friends with another simian podcast. Not apes, chimpanzees or orangutans, but Monkees! On our last episode we learned of the many connections between the Planet of the Apes TV series and The Monkees TV series, and we learned this from Zilch: A Monkees Podcast. Creator and host, Ken Mills, will be joining us to talk childhood Ape stories, his passion for The Monkees and his KISS and Cheap Trick podcasts. What's an Ape connection without a new jingle? We have 2 great new Monkees/Apes jingles written by podcast composer Rob Dehlinger. If you thought 'Yabba Dabba Urko' was catchy ring-tone wait until you hear these! To hear about Ape fandom past and present from the other side of the world, we talk with Adam O'Brien. You may know Adam from the Jogcast Radio Network where he discusses all kinds of fandoms, now he brings his passion to Talking Apes TV. We give you a very rare clip from the 1974 Macy's Thanksgiving parade (thanks to Angela Rushmere) that featured Planet of the Apes. This is something you've got to hear to believe, and not in a good way. Now go Ape!

Hey Hey Ape Fans! We celebrate our one-year ape-iversary of Talking Apes TV with this special episode of controversy! Richard and Mark give you an update on the Felix Silla/Gary Dubin debate. The little gorilla boy in the original Planet Of The Apes film should've said, "Guess who I am?!" instead of "Look it's a Man!" And if that wasn't enough, there was "Who's that Zira?" controversy. What episode of Return to the Planet of the Apes are we covering this time? If you look at some sources then you would have watched Lagoon of Peril. But if you look at other sources then you watched The Unearthly Prophecy. After taking apart this puzzle, we came to the conclusion that story-wise, The Unearthly Prophecy, would come as the third episode in the series. So that is the one we are covering. THE UNEARTHLY PROPHECY: While escaping from Urko and his soldiers Bill and Jeff find a secret door that leads underground. There they meet - The Underdwellers - cloaked humans with special powers. They also find another surprise from their past! In honor of Halloween and the tradition of giving, podcast composer Rob Dehlinger's new Flintstones inspired jingle, "Yabba Dabba Urko" is a ringtone-treat which can be found at Facebook.com/talkingapestv. And lastly, we think we finally found out how Urko keeps that top-heavy helmet on his head! Listen to the latest episode of Talking Apes TV and find out! Hey Hey Ape Fans! Join Richard and Mark on this edition of Talking Apes TV as they look at the 2nd episode of the Return To The Planet Of The Apes animated episode, Escape From Ape City. This episode aired Sept. 13th, 1975 and picks up right where we left off in, Flames Of Doom. After being captured, Bill is brought to the laboratory of Ape City for Cornelious and Zira to study. After it becomes obvious Bill is no ordinary humanoid, they help him escape before General Urko uses him for his deadly war games. This episode of Talking Apes TV features a new Urko theme composed by Rob Dehlinger.
