Talking Apes TV: A Planet of the Apes Podcast

Talking Apes turns 10! Or as it was called a decade ago - Talking Apes TV when it premiered on Oct. 6th, 2014. Original co-host Mark (“Mellow Kubrick”) Oguschewitz is back to run down memorable moments with a heartfelt tribute to our first Talking Apes Facebook admin., Angela Rushmere. We play the intro to the very first episode including the ear-worm that sounds like a chimpanzee giving birth, ‘Ape Shuffle'.  In a congratulatory message, Bobby Porter thanks the vast Apes crew, and we read your thoughtful social media comments.   We continue our Planet of the Apes TV show 50th Anniversary celebration and Mark gives his favorite episode, scene, and supporting character. He weighs in about who the better gorilla military leader is: Urko, Ursus, Aldo, and this time we include Proximus! The debate continues as what Urko's title is - General or Chief of Security (or both). What do you think?   And to round out this big episode we go back to Ape City to trick or treat. What's the worst that could happen when humans go door to door looking for candy and bananas? Bobby Porter reprises his role as Cornelious Jr., first time he's done so in 50 years.   Thank you to the Apes community for getting us to the 10 year mark! Happy Holidays to all of you apes, gorillas, orangutans, chimps, and you damn dirty humanoids! After a very long hiatus (apologies once again), we are back with a HOLIDAY SPECIAL. In this episode we finish our series on the Planet of the Apes unproduced TV script breakdowns with “Hostage.” But this time we bring in a full cast! We had a blast going through this script and even left in a lot of bloopers, gaffes, and screw-ups.    “Hostage” was written by Stephen Kandel, who has written scripts for Star Trek, The Bionic Man, Bionic Woman, Dukes of Hazzard, Charlie's Angels, Wonder Woman, Batman, CHIPS, Love Boat, Dynasty, Hart to Hart, and The New Mike Hammer.  “Hostage” is dated April 5th, 1974.    Story Synopsis   Galen, Virdron, and Kovack stumble upon the meeting place for the UFF - United Freedom Force - which is an outlawed civil rights group composed of humans and apes who wish to overthrow the Simian government and replace it with a more tolerant system.    Full Cast Credits   Richard and Kevin would like to thank Sarah Woloski, Mark Oguschewitz (UnderexposedCinematicTreasures.com), David Braun, Anthony Pomes, Patrick Izzo, and Bryn MacKinnon for their participation and hard work. And a big thank you to those who sent in holiday greetings including Bobby Porter and Paul Williams.    Now go ape, and have a happy and Urkotastic holiday season!   Contact Us   Email: Apestv@SkywalkingThroughNeverland.com   Tweet: @Skywalkingpod   Facebook: Talking Apes TV   Subscribe on iTunes | Stitcher | YouTube   Subscribe to the Skywalking Network Newsletter for News & Special TeePublic Discounts     About Talking Apes Podcast   Richard Woloski and Mark Oguschewitz take a look at the unsung PLANET OF THE APES TV series from 1974. The first several episodes of TALKING APES TV will delve into one episode of the PLANET OF THE APES TV Series, with plenty of quotes, audio and social commentary pulled from each show.   Then TALKING APES TV turned into TALKING APES, and Richard Woloski is joined by new cohost Kevin Toft on a journey through interviews and more ... The Ohio-based, nationwide National Card Football League — and its sister venture the American Card Football League — share details of their methods for drafting, playing, stat-keeping and more in the inaugural episode of GamePlan with the APBA Football Club. The NCFL, founded as a face-to-face league in Columbus, Ohio, in 1981, is now believed to be the longest-running APBA Football-only league. We caught up with Jerry Zajack, Bobby Porter, Brad Morgan and newest member Greg Barath (APBA Hall of Fame 2016) after some exciting outcomes in the ACFL's Week 3 action. The ACFL and NCFL both employ an innovative, easy-to-use Skype method of play created by the NCFL 10 years ago (well before the beginning of pandemic shutdowns in March 2020). Zajack and Steve "bigfut" Meyersburg demonstrated the NCFL method during the 2013 APBA Football Club convention in Canton, and the method went global in November 2014 with a tournament that stretched as far as Australia (with APBA Football innovator Phil Molloy). Check in regularly to both league websites for current standings and statistics, as well as historical draft results. APBA Football veteran Bobby Porter has performed a rare hat trick, playing as a member of three APBA Football leagues: Florida's Suncoast Football League, founded in 1979; Ohio's National Card Football League, created in 1981; and the NCFL offshoot American Card Football League. Porter details his draft and face-to-face experiences, the SFL's unique results boards, optimal player usage in FTF league competition, and his custom football fields. He also helps design and maintain the league's websites. And, he goes on the record to nominate Jerry Zajack for the APBA Hall of Fame (and we heartily second that motion). Stay tuned to the APBA Football Club channel for exclusive updates as these leagues progress through their seasons. Join the Damn Dirty Geeks at our live podcast recording from the Arena Cinelounge as we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the original PLANET OF THE APES, with our special guest from the film, LOU WAGNER. Lou joins our list of APES actors on our podcast including Bobby Porter and H.M Wynant. Though Lou is our first veteran from the original film, having co-starred with Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall, which was a special treat for the DDG and our live audience in attendance for the screening. We talk with Lou about his preparation for playing the rebellious teen chimpanzee as the then-modern voice in the 1968 film, and how what might have been a 60s-dated aspect to the story has now come full circle in relevance, mirroring today's headlines of a new youth movement influencing society and politics. Lou shares several little-known stories from filming PLANET OF THE APES, including a great tale about how Heston looked after his ape costars on location. Also joining the 50th Anniversary celebration was William Conlin, director of the upcoming documentary Making Apes:The Artists Who Changed Film, himself a lifelong fan of the APES films like us. Conlin's film celebrates the brilliant makeup artists and technicians who made the APES films possible and how they changed modern cinema in the 20th century. As part of this documentary, Lou agreed to have makeup artists update Lou's character Lucious as aged 50 years since his original appearance. Jump the link above to learn more about Conlin's film currently in production and seeking support to finish the doc. Listen to this ape-stravaganza and much more in our live podcast marking 50 years of the APES film franchise and counting!  Be sure to visit our website DamnDirtyGeeks.com in a couple days for our photo gallery and show notes from this special event!

The Damn Dirty Geeks are very fortunate to be joined by our second PLANET OF THE APES franchise veteran, renowned actor, stuntman and stunt coordinator Bobby Porter. We had such a great time talking with Bobby about his appearance as Cornelius in BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES and many more of his films, that this episode is Part 1 of 2 shows featuring our star guest. Bobby Porter, as you'll soon hear, is one of the most charismatic, positive and inspirational people you could meet. Not only does Bobby have dozens of fascinating and fun stories to share with listeners, but he always places these tales in context of influential moments of growth and achievement in his life. Part 1 of our visit with Bobby covers the start of his stunt performer career, how his size that led him to double for child actors in THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and ACE ELI AND RODGERS OF THE SKIES lead him to an opportunity to play young Cornelius, the son of Roddy McDowall's Caesar in BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES. Bobby also shares stories of the Disaster genre boom of the 1970s and doubling as John Connor in TERMINATOR 2.
