The role of mobile armors in Gundam is always interesting. What does a machine gain by discarding its human-like form? It can indicate determination, or amorality, or y'know, all sorts of stuff. 00 definitely thinks using a mobile armor makes you a bad person. Don't you GN Arms me, those are attachments. The Trilobite? The Alvaaron? The Empruss? The Regnant? Even the Gadelaza? Piloted by bad people, or at least people who are currently being bad. Orienting Prayer   #RTTBROS #nightlight Orienting Prayer  1.  Protected by Prayer  Verse: "Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me." (Psalm 25:1-2 KJV) When enemies and treacherous people surround us, our first response should be to seek God's protection through prayer. Like David, we can be real with God about the hatred and affliction we face. Triggers of anxiety are meant to launch us into prayer, unleashing God's peace to guard our hearts. As we pray, God grants us situational awareness to avoid the enemy's ambushes that hide in pleasant places. Prayer is a powerful tool for God's protection in this dangerous world. 2. Piloted by God's Paths Verse: "Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day." (Psalm 25:4-5 KJV)  In prayer, we ask God to pilot us - to show us His ways, teach us His paths, and lead us in His truth. This waiting on God is not passive, but active - serving Him while expecting His guidance. Like a waiter attending to diners, we attentively wait on God all day long. As we pray for God's direction, the good and upright Lord teaches sinners His way and guides the humble in His paths of steadfast love and faithfulness. 3.  Pardoned by Mercy Verse: "Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O Lord." (Psalm 25:6-7 KJV) An awareness of our own sin should lead us to seek God's mercy and forgiveness in prayer. We don't pray based on our own goodness, but on God's grace and mercy. Like David, we can distinguish between sins of ignorance in our youth and willful sins of maturity, while still boldly asking for God's pardon for both. We pray confidently, not because we deserve it, but for the sake of God's own goodness. What amazing mercy that grants us what we could never earn! 4.  Provided with Prosperity  Verse: "What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant." (Psalm 25:12-14 KJV) Beyond protection, guidance, and pardon, God's prayer promises include provision and prosperity. Those who fear the Lord receive His instruction and wisdom for life's decisions. Their souls will dwell in abundant wellbeing and their descendants will enjoy an inheritance. God shares intimate fellowship and secrets with those who revere Him, including revealing the blessings of His covenant. Prayer positions us to experience the fullness of God's rich provision. https://linktr.ee/rttbros   Be sure to Like, Share, Follow and subscribe it helps get the word out. https://linktr.ee/rttbros

State flipping public-input process for upgrading I-65, I-70 through Indianapolis

The IBJ Podcast

The process for designing and upgrading interstates in Indiana hasn't exactly been a two-way street. Typically, the Indiana Department of Transportation draws up plans for its projects and then the public has an opportunity to provide feedback. You'll recall the uproar in 2017 when INDOT presented its plans for reconstructing the North Split, where I-70 and I-65 meet in the northeast corner of downtown. Nearby residents were vehemently against some elements of the project and proposed a fundamentally different alternative. INDOT was able to accommodate the Rethink 65/70 Coalition's concerns on some aspects of the project, but it proceeded largely as originally proposed. As the state now begins to plan for future upgrades to other portions of I-65 and I-70 that run through Indianapolis, it's conducting a long-term study to get public input on the front end of the process. Piloted in part with the infrastructure firm HNTB, the ProPEL Indy study is collecting public input in a wide variety of venues to identify ideas for improvements that would impact quality of life, economic growth, mobility, and safety. In this week's episode of the IBJ Podcast, we're joined by Tim Miller, senior project manager for HNTB and the project manager for the ProPEL Indy study, as well as Natalie Garrett, communications director for INDOT. In addition to discussing the process so far, they share some of the ideas they've already received, related to signage, the location of interchanges, pedestrian right of way and the way these corridors represent—or fail to represent—the city as a whole. The IBJ Podcast is brought to you by Taft.

Bill Schuffenhauer is an American bobsledder who has competed since 2000. Competing in three Winter Olympics, he won the silver medal in the four-man event at Salt Lake City in 2002.Schuffenhauer's Olympics dream as a track and field athlete came to an end in 2000. While training for Sydney, he suffered a nasty ankle injury and could barely walk. When his friend told him that the U.S. Olympic team was practising bobsledding in Park City, he took the chance to go and observe. While there, the team members noticed his 6-foot, 200 pound frame and asked him he wanted to be a pusher. He accepted and trained with the team from then on.He was not originally slated to be a regular member, but was promoted when one of the U.S. four-man team members tested positive for steroids. Piloted by Todd Hays, that crew won a silver medal at the Salt Lake Games. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy, Bill's two-man team placed 14th, after which he retired. Crewless robotic Mayflower ship reaches Plymouth Rock

A crewless robotic boat retracing the 1620 sea voyage of the Mayflower has landed near Plymouth Rock. The sleek Mayflower Autonomous Ship met with an escort boat as it approached the Massachusetts shoreline on June 30, more than 400 years after its namesake's historic journey from England. It was towed into Plymouth Harbor — per U.S. Coast Guard rules for crewless vessels — and docked near a replica of the original Mayflower that brought the Pilgrims to America. Piloted by artificial intelligence technology, the 50-foot (15-meter) trimaran didn't have a captain, navigator or any humans on board. The solar-powered ship's first attempt to cross the Atlantic in 2021 was beset with technical problems, forcing it back to its home port of Plymouth, England — the same place the Pilgrim settlers sailed from in 1620. It set off from the southwest English coast again in April but mechanical difficulties diverted it to Portugal's Azores islands and then to Canada. “When you don't have anybody on board, you obviously can't do the mechanical, physical fixes that are needed,” said Rob High, a software executive at IBM helping to work on the project. “That's also part of the learning process.” On July 4, it departed Halifax, Nova Scotia for a successful 4-day journey to Plymouth Harbor. Nonprofit marine research organization ProMare worked with IBM to build the ship and has been using it to collect data about whales, microplastic pollution and other scientific research. Small autonomous experimental vessels have crossed the Atlantic before but researchers describe it as the first ship of its size to do so. The voyage's completion “means we can start analyzing data from the ship's journey” and dig into the AI system's performance, High said. He said the prospect of such crewless vessels navigating the seas on a continuous basis will make it easier to collect “all the kinds of things that marine scientists care about." This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Piloted by English director Tony Scott, who went on to have huge success with films such as True Romance and Enemy of the State, and written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr, Top Gun remains nothing less than a motorcycle straddling, towel slapping phenomenon. Tonight we'll be soaring above the clouds with our hero Maverick and exploring his connections with the wisecracking Goose, the glamorous Charlie and the cerebral Iceman. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: What “pivotal” and useful research ... would you like to see assessed? (Bounty for suggestions), published by david reinstein on April 28, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Update 28 Apr 2022 -- Only ~10 responses so far, many of which are general areas rather than specific papers/findings/projects. So the 'bounty expected return' is still high. Below, I give some work that I thought might be especially relevant, as examples. Update 22 Apr 2022: Bounty[1] What papers, findings, projects, or pieces of research (academic or non-academic) would you most like to see carefully and rigorously evaluated?[2] Which specific results do you rely on in making key decisions, or which ones do you think that large EA-aligned donors and organizations rely on heavily? I'm considering this particularly as... Demonstration and test-cases for the Unjournal in our first months, as well as our general agenda (see the previous request and my earlier post We have put a bounty on this, explained below Research projects the Unjournal should consider in its first year I plan to offer a bounty on successful suggestions for this, and entries will also be eligible for future bounties. Also: Great use cases for the/ (tied to the eminent Daniel Lakens); this initiative looks very promising to me. ^[But please note that the bounty will only relate to the Unjournal.) I'm looking especially for: specific papers and findings in these papers and projects that we lean on a lot empirical work that would benefit from an open-science/replicability assessment or an assessment of the methodology More on what I am looking for Some combination of work ... Focusing on social science, economics, and impact evaluation (without digging too deeply into technical microbiology or technical AI, etc.) Aiming at academic standards of rigor; perhaps it is in the process of peer review or aiming at it With direct relevance for choices by EA funders... or to crucial considerations "Empirical and/or quantitative": Makes empirical claims, analyses data, runs experiments/trials, runs simulations, fermi-estimations, and calibrations based on real data points "Applied/applicable (economics/decision science) theory": Makes logical mathematical arguments (typically in economics) for things like mechanisms to boost public goods provision in particular contexts. Unjournal would be particularly good for Work in replicable dynamic documents (Rmarkdown, Quarto, Jupyter, etc) ... or otherwise hard to fit into a 'frozen pdf' Ongoing projects you will 'continue to build on in the same place' Work that is hard-to-place in standard journals ... ... because it is interdisciplinary (but rigorous) and requires multiple dimensions of expertise to evaluate or because it is more impactful and robust than it is 'novel' .(And thus we particularly value suggestions for work like this.) The Bounty Full details, T&C, and other considerations are here; excerpted below. The prizes are: 1. “Piloted suggestion prize”: $250 x 1-3 . prizes for each of the 1-3 suggested research projects that we choose as piloting/proof-of-concept examples 2. “Participation prize”: A $150-$300 prize (see below) Drawn randomly among ... All people (other than those winning prize 1), who submit suggestions, where these suggestions are in a format we can consider. They must link a piece of research or a project and giving at least 1 sentence justifying it's relevance. Anyone who sends a posted letter (see footnote)[3] If we use two or more suggestions for piloting/proof-of-concept the Participation prize will be $150. If we use only one of the suggestions for piloting/proof-of-concept the Participation prize will be $250. If we do not use any of the suggestions for piloting/proof-of-concept the Participation prize will be $300. 3. (Potential) Additional prize qualification:...

Welcome to Episode 1 of 'It Takes a Global Crisis', a series of four special episodes produced by the UN Library & Archives Geneva in collaboration with the SDG Lab. In this episode on digitalization and connectivity, we're joined by Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) and Ibrahima Guimba-Saïdou, the Minister Special Advisor to President of Niger and CEO of the National Agency for Information Society (ANSI). Together, they explore the impact of COVID-19 on connectivity and digitalization across the world, and whether progress to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals has been accelerated or disadvantaged through the pandemic.   So, did it take a global crisis to advance digitization and connectivity? Let's find out.  Note: This podcast, recorded on 6 October 2021, mentions 3.7 billion people, or 51% of the world's population, remain unconnected to the Internet (Source: ITU Facts and Figures 2020). In December 2021, ITU's latest Facts and Figures 2021 report revealed that the estimated number of people who have used the Internet has surged to 4.9 billion in 2021 (63%), from an estimated 4.1 billion in 2019. However, in 2021, an estimated 37 per cent of the world's population – or 2.9 billion people – have still never used the Internet. One way was to fulfill orders for her crocheted Allie Resiliency Beanies that took off following her victory at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in late February 2020. The other way, she and her long-time boyfriend Tim Gannon decided, was to start a family. So this month, the 31-year-old Tuliamuk will give birth in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Then when she is physically ready, Tuliamuk will resume training with Northern Arizona Elite in Flagstaff to prepare for the Olympic marathon Aug. 7 in Sapporo, site of the 1972 Winter Olympics selected for distance events due to excessive summer heat in Tokyo. For Tuliamuk and Gannon, engaged to be married, the birth of their daughter already named Zoe will be a joyous start to 2021 that her coach believes will carry over through the hard work necessary to prepare for the Olympics.  "Aliphine is as happy as she's ever been, and I just think there's something to be said for that," NAZ Elite coach Ben Rosario said. "Any couple who's really wanted to have a baby then have one, sure there's stress that comes with that and sleepless nights. But overall there's joy. And Aliphine has always competed best when she's happy. Tuliamuk naturally was ecstatic after conquering the demanding trials course in Atlanta to win in 2:27.33 and become the first Olympic qualifier for NAZ Elite, going into its eighth year of operation. Her finish-line celebration with teammates Stephanie Bruce (sixth) and Kellyn Taylor (eighth) is one of the indelible 2020 Olympic sport memories before the Tokyo Games were postponed less than a month later. In early December, Tuliamuk made her pregnancy public via social media. "Tim and I always knew that we wanted to have a family," she said. "The goal was post 2020 Olympics. As it turned out this year had other plans. By mid-April we were convinced there will be no more races this season. The darkness ahead was too much, we created our own light at the end of the tunnel. "If anyone told me this would be the case 10 months ago, I would have called them crazy, but this is 2020. We planned this knowing that we would have six-plus months to get ready for Tokyo Olympics."   What's New in the 303:   BRAC a Year in Review and What’s Ahead with President Andy Johnson 303Endurance caught up with Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado (BRAC) President, Andy Johnson to take a look back at 2020 and all the challenges and how they will help BRAC moving forward in 2021 and beyond to benefit not only bike racing community, but the cycling community in general.    303: You have mentioned a new name for BRAC, are you ready to reveal that at this time and if so what is it?   Andy: Years ago when BRAC was under different leadership, the organization was keen on creating a URL that speaks to the larger vision of BRAC’s role in the Colorado cycling community.  So, if approved at Club Council in February, the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado (which is a mouthful) and BRAC (which is always awkward to say and explain) will be known as ColoradoCycling.Org.  The name change affords us the ability to talk about cycling and cycling events in the broader context of our Colorado community.   Castle Rock Fat Bike Snow Adventure and Cultural Hub Extraordinaire? When I say Castle Rock, Colorado…what comes to mind? Awesome backcountry adventure? A gritty and popular brew pub vibe from “the other side of the tracks”. Perhaps that shining monument to Law and Order—The Douglas County Jail complex? Or, if you are like me, Castle Rock reminds you of New York City right? Well, in an epic Dirt Journal mix tape they all collided last week. If Castle Rock reminds you of none of the above, except perhaps the Justice Center (that’s a separate story on to itself) I’ll show you how this overgrown Highlands Ranch is actually a trippy Narnia. You just need to put on the magic rose colored hippie glasses to see it. If you have been reading Dirt Journal, a familiar sequence is starting to appear: Bike, Business, Beer, Boondoggle. My Castle Rock mission was long overdue but with the last snow and cooler weather…and the holidays upon us…it was “go” time for Castle Rock.   Video of the Week: Day 70 | September 10 | Mile 2601   Closing: Thanks again for listening in this week.  Please be sure to follow us @303endurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment.  We'd really appreciate it! Happy New Year!  Stay tuned, train informed, and enjoy the endurance journey!

Topic: Star Wars Episode 4-6 + Rogue One Review   This week, we’re on to the original trilogy that started it all off.  We’re on to the original trilogy, the ones that it all off for myself and my mom.  Unlike the last ones, we both had more favorable feelings about these movies.  I can’t wait to show her the next set of movies and see her reaction to those movies, see if she likes them or not.     Rogue One Young JynErso is in hiding with her parents, father who is a lead engineer on the Death Star, but the Empire comes and takes Jyn’s Father away to finish the Death Star. Years Later, Jyn is picked up by the Rebels, seeking her father who is helping build the Death Star. Cassian Andor and K-2SO take her to the planet of Jedha to find Saw Gerrera, who just so happens to have a message from her father, mentioning an exploit. They pick up Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus in the process. Death Star above, led by Director Krennic, fires on the planet to test the Death Star. Grand Toff Tarkin takes over Death Star after test Rebel crew head to planet of Eadu to rescue Jyn’s Father, but fail and leave in stolen Imperial Transport ship. Director Krennic goes to Darth Vader to take command of the Death Star back, but fails and is told to clean up his mess. Rebels go to planet of Scarif to retrieve the Death Star Plans. The Main fleet of the Rebels eventually join to help with the fight. Jyn gets the stolen plans to the rebels, but not before Vader nearly has them in his grasp. Last scene leads directly in to Star Wars – A New Hope.   Ep 4 Star Wars – A New Hope Princess Leia is on the run from Darth Vader with plans for the Death Star. She gives them to R2D2 R2D2 escape to planet Tatooine with C3PO, but are captured and sold to Luke Skywalker Luke meets Obiwan Kenobi Luke leaves with Obiwan to give the stolen plans to the rebels, in the Millennium Falcon, Piloted by Han Solo and Chewbacca. Vader interrogates Leia on the Death Star and blow up Leia’s Planet of Alderan. Luke, Han, Obiwan, and Chewbacca arrive at Alderan and are captured by the Empire. They rescue Leia and escape the Death Star, but not before Obiwan sacrifices himself to allow them to do so. Death Star tracks the rebels to Yavin 4, and Luke agrees to fight the Empire in an X wing. Rebels are able to blow up the Death Star with Han and Chew’s help. Big ceremony at the end.   Trivia Luke Skywalker originally Starkiller Lucas opted for less pay on the movie in order own the merchandising rights Obiwan never says, “May the Force be with You” Ewan McGregor(Young Obiwan)’s uncle Was in Star wars, denis Lawson (Wedge Antillies)   Ep 5 Empire Strikes Back Rebels are in hiding on ice planet Hoth, Luke gets attacked and injured, seeing Obiwan as a ghost, but is saved by Han. Empire finds the Rebels and sends down an army to capture the Rebels. Han, Chewbacca, and Leia are running away from the Empire, can’t go to Hyperspace because Millennium Falcon is damaged Luke go to meet Yoda so Luke can learn to be a Jedi. Han, Chewbacca, and Leia go to meet Lando Calrissian, but the crew have been sold out to Darth Vader and Bobo Fett Han is frozen in Carbonite, but Lando switches sides and helps Chewbacca and Leia escape on Millennium Falcon. Luke goes to save his friends, but fights Darth Vader. Loses his right hand and learns that Vader is his father. Luke is saved by Millennium Falcon and they all escape. Lando promises to find Han and Luke agrees to go and help save him.   Trivia Shots of Luke using the Force to retrieve his lightsaber were accomplished by Mark Hamil throwing his light saber and film being reversed. Carrie Fisher stood on a box for many scene with Harrison Ford due to their height difference, Fisher at 5’1”, Ford at 6’1” When Mark Hamill was having problems shooting scenes with Yoda, Frank Oz would bring out his Miss Piggy Puppet to make him laugh Scene where Leia says, “I love you.” And Han says, “I know.” Was adlibbed by Harrison Ford.     Ep6 Return of the Jedi Luke, Leia, Lando, and Chewbacca save Han on Tatooine. Luke learns Leia is sister, gets final training from Yoda Rebels learn of new Death Star, send Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca to moon Endor to turn off shield generator so Empire can destroy new Death Star. Vader visits Death Star with Emperor to ensure the Rebels are defeated. Luke hands himself over to Darth Vader, intending on convincing his father to reform, he is brought to death Star Han, Leia, and Chewbacca go to destroy the Shield generator, helped by Ewoks. Lando leads Rebel Fleet to attack the New Death Star. They Succeed Luke and Darth Vader Fight, Luke wins, Vader kills Emperor. Vader dies, redeemed, Crew with Ewoks celebrate end of the Empire.   Trivia Harrison Ford only sign contract for two movies, but George Lucas convinced him to sign for a 3rd, believing that Han Solo still had more heroic stuff to do. Actor Ian McDiarmid would play the Emperor, and reprise his role 15+ years later in the prequel trilogy. Carrie Fisher complained that her costumes in previous movies were too long and people could not tell she was a woman. This led to the infamous Slave costume worn during early parts of the movie.  Costume was made of metal and had shots had to be redone due to wardrobe malfunctions. Mark Hamill opined that Luke should don Vader’s helmet after Vader’s death, leaving the ending of Luke character ambigious or ominous. George Lucas disagreed and went with the happy ending.

Show #470   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 13th May 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TESLA MODEL Y PRODUCTION WILL CREATE A BATTERY SHORTAGE "Tesla’s main battery supplier and partner in Gigafactory 1 says that the start of Model Y production next year will result in a battery cell shortage at the factory." according to an Electrek article today: "During Panasonic’s latest earnings report, CEO Kazuhiro Tsuga said that they plan to ramp up to the full 35 GWh this year. After that, the CEO said that they need to talk to Tesla. He said that there’s currently not enough capacity to supply Tesla’s expanding business and especially the upcoming production of the Model Y"   He said "“Batteries will run out if Tesla starts to sell the Model Y and expands its business next year. What will we do then? It’s one of a few topics to discuss with Tesla, including battery [production] in China.”   User jpo234: "Panasonic is losing money from their GF1 investment. They are tightening the screws to get a better deal from Tesla."   User ben says: "Tesla is known for bringing manufacturing in-house. If Panasonic has not performed to musks exacting standards, they're out on future expansions of GF1. Tesla will do it themselves, with new tech (Maxwell) that will be more dense boosting gigafactories theoretical capacity above 135 GW/yr."   https://electrek.co/2019/05/13/tesla-model-y-production-battery-shortage-panasonic/   TESLA OWNERS MAY BE ABLE TO OPT FOR A THIRD-PARTY EXTENDED WARRANTY "As the Tesla fleet grows (and ages), it's helpful to know there are additional options (just in case) to care for an out-of-warranty Model 3, Model S, Model X or Roadster. It turns out that X-Care EV Protection is now offering the nation’s first third-party extended warranty for Tesla owners." says InsideEVs.com today: "X-Care is meant to mirror Tesla’s own extended service agreement it offers customers – it covers nearly everything the automaker’s extended warranty does. While Tesla restricts its own coverage exclusively to customers who buy Tesla vehicles from the automaker, X-Care can be offered by any auto retailer and can be used to cover any Tesla. The warranty, provided by Xcelerate Auto, also fills a gap left open by traditional providers in the industry, who have been reluctant to cover electric vehicles. Without decades of data regarding reliability and repair costs, other companies have interpreted the electric vehicles as too big of a risk."   https://insideevs.com/news/349254/tesla-third-party-extended-warranty/   CEO OF HONDA OUTLINES NEW CHALLENGES Honda Motor Co.’s president and CEO Takahiro Hachigo recently spoke about two of the automaker’s management challenges it will be tackling going forward to meet the rapid changes happening in the global automotive industry. In terms of electrification, Honda is still on track to reach its goal to electrify two-thirds of its global automobile unit sales by 2030. "At Honda, in light of the required infrastructure and how people use automobiles, we believe that hybrid technology is, at this moment, the most effective way for us to comply with CAFE standards. Therefore, we will electrify our products mainly with hybrid technologies. By increasing sales of our hybrid models all around the world, Honda will contribute to the global environment through the improvement of fuel economy.”"   ASTON MARTIN’S FIRST EV MAKES DYNAMIC DEBUT AT MONACO EPRIX "Aston Martin chose the Formula E Monaco ePrix as the setting to provide its first all-electric model its dynamic debut." says carkeys.co.uk: "Piloted by Aston Martin works driver Darren Turner, the model took part in two on-track sessions throughout the day. The twin rear-mounted electric motors produce 604bhp and 950Nm of torque, which makes the new electric Aston Martin the quickest version of the Rapide ever made, and even more so than the 6.0-litre V12 that typically lies underneath the model’s bonnet. Just 155 Rapide Es are being built, as the luxury saloon’s production run draws to a close, as Aston Martin begins to develop its Lagonda brand, which is set to be the firm’s electric subsidiary. Production of the model will start later in the year at Aston Martin Lagonda’s new production facility in St Athan, Wales."   https://www.carkeys.co.uk/news/aston-martin-s-first-ev-makes-dynamic-debut-at-monaco-eprix   HYDROGEN FUEL CELL VS. BATTERY ELECTRIC CARS: WHICH ARE BETTER? "While electric cars appear to have the edge in today’s environment, a number of manufacturers are still committed to hydrogen fuel cell cars - meaning that the technology may one day find its place in the motoring world. Green technology news site CleanTechnica claims that hydrogen fuel cell cars are “several years behind battery electric vehicles in terms of innovation”, which is why they’re so expensive to own and run." report The Week: "Given enough time and money, hydrogen vehicles may become the more accessible option for “our kids or grandkids”, the website says. But electric cars are evolving at a rapid rate, too, and more environmentally-friendly battery options may open up in the future.  For now, though, electric cars appear to be the go-to mode of transport for those looking to do their part in cutting emissions."   https://www.theweek.co.uk/electric-cars/101196/hydrogen-fuel-cell-vs-battery-electric-cars-which-are-better   NORWEGIAN AUDI E-TRON CUSTOMERS DELAYED AND FINED "As the delivery rollout of the Audi e-tron begins, reservation holders in Norway have begun to complain about the additional delays that they are facing. One customer attempted to cancel his order, for which he was presented with a fine for breaking contract." says electrive.com: "The customer who reported the fine, had initially been incensed about an additional 6 month waiting period, on top of the existing delay. When he then attempted to cancel his reservation, he was told that to do so, he would have to pay 8% of the value of the vehicle for the inconvenience. Depending on the model variant chosen, this would be a price between $5,920 and $6,800."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/05/13/audi-e-tron-customers-delayed-and-fined/   VW: HOW ELECTRIC ROADS WORK Zero carbon footprint, quieter vehicles, good driveability and no exhaust emissions. Continuous charging along electric roads has huge potential for heavy transport. On a busy highway, a truck with trailer is approaching a long section with pylons on the right side. The vehicle’s sensor detects that the traffic lane is now equipped with an electric contact line, and the driver pushes a button to raise a pantograph fitted on the cab’s roof. Within seconds, the cab turns almost completely silent: the combustion engine has stopped, and the electrical motor now powers the vehicle.   This is how it works: Finding the eHighway A sensor checks whether the traffic lane is equipped with a contact line. Until now the truck has been powered by the combustion engine. Now, the driver raises the pantograph. Connects to the contact line When connected, the pantograph transfers the energy directly to the electric motor, simultaneously charging the battery. During braking, electricity is generated as the flow of energy is reversed, charging the on-board battery. Disconnects when overtaking   When the truck is overtaking or is at the end of an electrified section, the pantograph lowers itself. The electrical motor continues to run on battery power for as long as possible. After overtaking the driver can return to the eHighway.   SHELL BUILDS HPCS IN GERMANY "Shell is starting to build high power chargers at its gas stations in Germany. This year, the oil company plans to build 50 charging stations across the country, with a total of 100 charging points and a capacity of at least 150 kilowatts. Further charging stations are to follow." according to electrive: "Shell has brought EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg, an utility in Germany’s south, on board as a partner for the charging network initiative. They plan to install high power charging stations with CCS, CHAdeMO and an AC connection (type 2), which will each provide up to 150 kW for up to two vehicles charging simultaneously and up to 300 kW when only one car is charging. According to the media reports, locations in Cologne, Oberhausen and Munich are planned"   https://www.electrive.com/2019/05/13/shell-to-build-50-hpcs-before-the-year-is-out/   DAIMLER'S NEXT CEO WILL PUSH ALLIANCES TO CUT COSTS "Daimler will cut development costs of new Mercedes-Benz cars by a significant amount by 2025 and will intensify alliances with rivals as a way to improve margins, Ola Kaellenius, the future chief executive, said on Monday." reports Autoblog today: ""The cost structure of the electric car is above that of the combustion engine car. We are working hard on lowering this," Kaellenius, who is due to take over from Dieter Zetsche after the company's annual general meeting on May 22, said. Daimler is also relying on increasing economies of scale for electric car batteries as a way to drive down costs. It is also working to cut the use of expensive raw materials from electric car batteries. The carmaker wants to reduce the use of cobalt in electric car batteries."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/05/13/daimler-ceo-alliance-ola-kaellenius/     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. The whole community—our residents, visitors, business owners, places of worship, schools, and community leaders—all play a vital role in keeping our communities safe and secure. Preparedness is a shared responsibility; it calls for the involvement of everyone—not just the government. NJOHSP developed the Hometown Security Initiative as a pathway to engage our local communities to enhance their level of preparedness, building a more secure and resilient New Jersey. Piloted in June of 2016, the Hometown Security Initiative allows federal, state, and local agencies to connect directly with the local community, its small businesses, faith-based organizations, and educational institutions. Since the program’s inception, we have held 10 Hometown Security seminars, attended by more than 500 residents. In today’s podcast, we discuss New Jersey’s Hometown Security Initiative with our key partners at the Department of Homeland Security and the New Jersey State Police. We will share how this effort fosters a culture of preparedness and lays the foundation to build capabilities in our communities across New Jersey.

Jacob Allen was the first-ever youth president for the NAACP in Wisconsin and a Teach for America corps member in Chicago. But it wasn’t either of those roles that landed him on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list this past January. Rather, it was his efforts to bring an important topic back into K-12 schools—the idea of a student’s self-identity. In 2013, Allen and his cofounder Marie Dandie created pilotED Schools, an afterschool program that has a three-tiered curriculum, specifically focusing on developing students in the realms of academic success, civic engagement and social identity. Over the last few years, pilotED has worked with more than 100 school students and families on Chicago’s South and West Sides. But pilotED isn’t just about helping existing schools anymore. Allen and Dandie will soon be launching the first pilotED brick-and-mortar school—a daunting but unique opportunity. EdSurge sat down with Allen last week to discover how his new school model is tackling themes of trauma and citizenship in the classroom—the stuff that can really impact students’ academic success.

Hey Hey Ape Fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We kick off this episode by reviewing the past works of Return to the Planet of the Apes Animation Director, Cullen Houghtaling. Did you even know there were animated series based on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? Police Academy? Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz? We're so lucky to have the Internet these days. Screaming Wings Synopsis: As Bill, Jeff, and Judy head for a humanoid settlement they spot human scarecrow targets. Suddenly, a World War II-era fighter plane appears in the sky. Piloted by a gorilla, the aircraft flies toward the scarecrows and drops a net on them. Urko and his Ape army are testing the plane in preparation for planet domination. Now Bill, Jeff and Judy have to steal it if there is any hope for the humanoid race, and, to see if this plane can help them get back home. We have a blast reviewing this one since there is so much fun stuff here. And finally we're getting a story thread that will start bringing the series together. And we see the side-effects of Urko's helmet which may be on a little too tight in this episode. During a commercial break, we hear a MEGO World's Mightiest Superheroes figure commercial that would never be made today. Listen, have fun and Go APE!

In this episode, we dream a little dream called podcast. Still feeling the sting of our Twitter-bot smack down, we lament the bizarre narrowcasting that we’ve come to as a society in the Age of Correction, and then immediately yearn for the Twitter-bot-bump. It’s a complicated relationship. The Mound of Doom takes revenge on Scott with an itching, burning plaque of "poison something" while William expresses sympathy with a story of his own backwoods betrayal. We greet a new listener baby, who arrives in this world with an entourage of community-sponsored dinners, which is enough to set William’s stomach scheming. William then takes on the mantle of Mr. Raw Deal, first losing a battle of common sense with his wife, and then at the Edge of Disaster, gaining moral superiority with Apple as level-1 support turns out to be as level-1 as you might expect. Dreams are next as William rearranges his into neatly-aligned packages, while being chased by jaguars. Brain-fed by podcasts (the natural sleep aid), Scott executes a unique body subroutine that is responsible for saving many a dream child. William shares his experiments in lucid dreaming, which are actually twisted sleep studies in repeated lucid wakings. Is NyQuil actually peyote? Do cats dream of coyotes? Why is William screaming? Why is Scott falling down? This whole sleep thing is dangerous. We take welcome refuge in the familiar musical arms of Stereophonic Sound with Sugar, Spice and Rudolph Friml and the world’s first stereo-scored orchestra, complete with a Westrex cutter head system with a scully lathe! We demonstrate our expert foreign language skills, debate cheesecake and beefcake, and through the waterfall of entwining lines of sound, visit both Julie Newmar and Nigel Tufnel. Luxury!

What makes somebody become an arsonist ? Every week in England and Wales sixty five people are either killed or injured by somebody who has deliberately started a fire. But surprisingly little is known about the different kinds of arsonists, apart from the worrying fact that once they've shown an interest in fire, they then tend to carry on risking life and property by starting more. Claudia Hammond talks to one of the leading experts in the field, Dr Theresa Gannon from the University of Kent. Dr Gannon's research is aiming to fill the gaps in our knowledge about arsonists - mostly men - and from this develop the country's first treatment programme. All In The Mind is given unique access to the country's first peer to peer parenting group, designed to reduce long term mental health problems of children. Piloted in South London, 400 parents have already completed the course, and Dr Crispin Day from the Institute of Psychiatry, tells Claudia Hammond about the results of this unique new approach to early intervention and talks about the possibility of a national roll out. The brothers and sisters of people with autism show a similar pattern of brain activity to their siblings when they're looking at emotional facial expressions. Dr Michael Spencer from the University of Cambridge's Autism Research Centre, led the study, published today. He tells Claudia Hammond that his team have identified reduced activity in a part of the brain associated with empathy and argue it may be a 'biomarker' for a familial risk of autism.
