Maaaaan this is a big one for me as I have been a fan of MOJOE for many years, and when we sat down to do this they informed me that I had never interviewed them before. Which is something I can't even fathom given the amount of times I have seen them live and how much I have listened to them and such. But I guess that is the case and this edition of Talk So Real is my first real talk with two of my favorites. MOJOE was a walking revolution from San Antonio back in the day. A live band hip hop experience that had it all and could not be questioned. The title of their Classic.Ghetto.Soul album summed it all up, and after a bit of a hiatus (in which rapper Easy Lee started a group called Third Root with MexStep and DJ Chicken George) they are back with a new album about to drop called Ancient Future Soul, which also sums things up. The guys played the record for me and a few other good folks and then we sat down to do the interview in the lovely upstairs portion of Simona's Coffee Bar in the Colton House Hotel on South Congress here in Austin. It really went down as they say. Word to Raf. On this episode we discuss such things as Beyonce and Solange's father Matthew Knowles signing them, Sun Ra, Johnna Lister, why sometimes people including myself and themselves need a hiatus, real soul music, Texas music, the game, we cover a lot of things and I think you will enjoy this one. Please tell a friend to tell a friend to dial into this Talk So Real movement, and thank you so much for your support.

In today's episode we hear from Heather Sanderson. Heather has been working with plant spirits her whole life. In 2013 she studied herbal medicine at Third Root in Brooklyn, NY which led her to a 3-year Sacred Plant Medicine Apprenticeship with Carole Guyett in County Clare, Ireland. It was through this training and several initiations with plants that she became immersed in the dream and consciousness of the plant world and found a passion to share it with others. Since then she has founded Majestic Wisdom Publishing and has written several Plant and Tree Spirit Short Reads. She also hosts Majestic Wisdom Podcast. I am bringing the podcast back by honoring the new moon in Pisces with Heather Sanderson. Heather and I talk about how to dream with plants and connect with sacred plant allies. Heather Sanderson has been working with plant spirits her whole life. In 2013 she studied herbal medicine at Third Root in Brooklyn, NY which led her to a 3-year apprenticeship in Sacred Plant Medicine with Carole Guyett in County Clare, Ireland. In 2019 she started writing with the plants to bring more of their spiritual and practical magic and medicine into the physical world and has a passion to help others understand how to connect with the plants and their own intuition. As a writer and healer, she works deeply in the sacred feminine and with invisible wounds. Charles “Easy Lee” Peters (@thirdrootmusic) joined us in Episode 17 Easy is a poet, songwriter, MC, and Educator. We begin at the start of his musical career- fusing southern raps with timeless soul music, and his time touring the nation as a member of a signed group, Mo’Joe. From this point we discuss various ups, and downs that lead Easy to a passionate, and ultimately championed path in education. Finally we arrive at Easy’s current work with Third Root, a project he co-founded with Marco Cervantes (MexStep). We cover their progression, and how they found their sound working with an array of renowned musicians, and producers. We summarize by acknowleding Easy’s persistance, and how he accomplished a union between his passion for music, and possibly an even greater purpose- as an activist, teacher, and an inspiration. Third Root and Adrian Quesada present a powerful composition that pays tribute to the Justice or Else Million Man March Anniversary taking place in D.C. on 10.10.15. The track combines a riot starting beat, charging live instruments, and socially focused lyrics that bring to mind the work of Public Enemy and dead prez. The content of the track is rooted in conversations the band has had with Sis. Yonasda Lonewolf Hill and lectures that Minister Louis Farrakhan has been giving during his recent Justice or Else tour.
