"What we are dealing here with is is a very serious problem. It is radicalization and extremism institutionalizing in our academic institutions that are paid by the taxpayer, that are meant for general education and research that are now being hijacked by radicalized groups".   In this follow up interview with social scientist at the University of Amsterdam, Laurens Buijs, we talk about what has happened to him after blowing the whistle, late 2022.He's been cancelled, threatened, and defamed now also in Dutch state media. Buijs: " it's completely unacceptable we have to speak out as openly as we can about what is happening. That the university is complicit that the administration is complicit, that staff who is not speaking out is complicit. It is such a  grave problem that the only thing that I can do as a whistleblower is bring it into the light".This Follow the Science interview by Rico Brouwer was recorded late March 2023 where Laurens and Rico were paying a visit to Michaéla to see how she was doing.- On Follow the Science: https://followthescience.nl/interviews/university-of-amsterdam-whistleblower-laurens-buijs- Whistleblower protection at UvA https://www.uva.nl/over-de-uva/beleid-en-regelingen/bedrijfsvoering-algemeen/klokkenluidersregeling-uva-hva.html - January 25th interview https://followthescience.nl/interviews/woke-culture-threatens-academic-freedom-laurens-buijs- March 13 Forbidden Event on Free Speech in Dutch Higher Education - Laurens Buijs https://followthescience.nl/interviews/forbidden-event-on-free-speech-in-dutch-higher-education-laurens-buijs

This lecture is is part of the Art, Architecture and International Law seminar series which is being launched this academic year. The series is designed to bridge the worlds of art, architecture and international law. It explores the different ways in which art and architecture and international law intersect. It also demonstrates that international law exists well beyond the written word.Lecture summary: In this talk I am inviting you on a sightseeing tour in The Hague, the ‘International City of Peace and Justice'. But it is not a tour from A to B and back. It is a tour in the form of a collage, assembled from artworks, texts, and objects from or about institutions of international law. Through a cacophony of shifting perspectives and modalities, I try to (un)make sense of international institutional sites as a spaces of encounter and exclusion.Dr Sofia Stolk is a researcher in international law at the Asser Institute in The Hague and the University of Amsterdam. Her research project 'Imagining Justice' focuses on the use of visual means by international courts and tribunals and explores how different audiences engage with international law through its representation in visual media. She has published about the intersection of international law and art, architecture, theater, and film. Her monograph ‘The Opening Statement of the Prosecution in International Criminal Trials: A Solemn Tale of Horror' was published by Routledge in 2021. Sofia coordinates the Camera Justitia programme on law and social justice at the annual Movies that Matter Festival is co-founder of the Legal Sightseeing platform (www.legalsightseeing.org) together with Dr. Renske Vos (VU Amsterdam).

Thibault Schrepel joins the podcast to talk blockchain, antitrust and competition law. He is a professor at the Free University in Amsterdam and on the faculty of the Codex Center at Stanford University. At Stanford he is involved in the Computational Antitrust Project which works to foster the automation of antitrust procedures and the improvement of antitrust analysis. Thibault knew he wanted to pursue a career in antitrust on the very first day of his very first antitrust class during law school. As Thibault recalls, "I remember the very first day when I went to the antitrust class in law school. It was a two hour long class and after one hour, we had a break. I went to my friend, and I said, Well, that's it. That's what I want to do." Thibault is not just into antitrust. He is also really into tech and has a certificate from Harvard for Computer Science for Lawyers, so it makes sense that he likes to study the intersection of antitrust and blockchain technology. Through his study and passion for law and tech, Thibault has concluded that the maxim "code is law" might be true, but there is still a need for external rules to govern tech and computer code. This is especially true for blockchain because he believes that too can be used for anti-consumer and anti-competitive practices. But, Thibault also believes that technology also provides a unique opportunity to identify and protect against antitrust behavior. In fact, he just put out a book entitled Blockchain + Antitrust The Decentralization Formula that explores the relationship between blockchain and antitrust, providing a unique perspective on how law and technology could cooperate.

Interview Highlights: Brennan begins by talking about the figure of Lilith as she has been portrayed in historical myths and legends; and then moves to more modern interpretations of Lilith as a 'dark feminine' archetype, and as a feminist. Our discussion then shifts to how Lilith can be linked to queerness, and how the poet Renee Vivien used Lilith as a muse in her work (even more so than the figure of Satan/Lucifer who was extremely popular in turn-of-the-century France, where Vivien lived and worked). Find Brennan at: S. Interview Highlights: Thomas begins by giving some background on Violet Mary Firth, later known as Dion Fortune. He describes her somewhat rebellious nature, and how Fortune did not always agree with the notion that certain things should be kept "secret". However, she did stress the need to be careful and skeptical of those who purport to have the "truth". Thomas then moves to the topic of initiation and how this was viewed by Fortune. To her, initiation was becoming involved in a cosmic process of the 'right-hand' path, or a path of service. The goal of the initiate is to completely surrender individual consciousness and achieve a cosmic union with the Divine Mind. How does one do this? You can contact Thomas at thomas.vanbreda@outlook.com should you have any specific questions.Theme music by Stephanie Shea
