Watch the full coverage of the live stream on The Emily D Baker YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/live/r76bme3HJcUThe Retrial of Karen Read began on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Trial One started on April 29th, 2024. Day One focused on Jury Instructions, Opening Statements and First Witnesses. The Prosecution's Opening Statement was done by Hank Brennan and considered better than in the previous trial done by Adam Lally. Brennan focused on Karen Read's statements, suggesting she was covering things up and knew where John O'Keefe was because she left him there. They played a video interview statement where Karen Read said John O'Keefe was not mortally wounded when she last saw him. The Defense's Opening Statements was conducted by Alan Jackson instead of David Yannetti who did it the first time. Jackson simplified their defense, asserting that John O'Keeffe was not hit by a car. They focused on the lack of proper investigation at 34 Fairview Rd and evidence that they believe will support their claim. The Defense brought up Former Trooper Michael Proctor, which the prosecution did not mention. The first witness was firefighter/paramedic Timothy Nuttall, whose testimony about when Karen Read said, "I hit him," was discussed, including discrepancies and potential memory issues. The second witness was Kerry Roberts, who was with Jen McCabe and Karen Read at 34 Fairview when John O'Keefe's body was found. Her testimony was stopped as she described Karen Reed running towards a mound of snow.At the end of the day, Judge Cannone held a hearing outside of the presence of the Jury regarding the Prosecution's Motion to Compel ARCCA. The Judge determine that the Defense committed a Discovery Violation and scheduled Friday, April 25, 2025, to Voir Dire ARCCA witnesses. The Retrial is expected to last 6 to 8 weeks.RESOURCESWhat You Need to Know About the Retrial - https://youtu.be/89Jpa8vz1RQKaren Read Retrial Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKOJlfL__9F027hlETVU-voKaren Read Trial - 2024 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKUeCUzApgsEuQRXu5IXeTSThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy

The truth is, facts ALONE won't get you the 6-FIGURE WINNING VERDICT. If your voice is stuck in monotone (which I know most of y'all are guilty of, because that's one of the very first things we work on… AHEM!), you're handing your jury an invitation to… MENTALLY. CHECK. THE. FUCK. OUT. In this episode, we break down how to harness genuine emotion by diving into the minor mindset shifts and vocal tweaks that transform bland openings into compelling, authentic, jury-winning stories. Tune in and learn exactly how to dial up the emotion (without tipping into full-blown theatrics) and MASTER the sweet spot that moves jurors from PASSIVE LISTENERS to ACTIVE BELIEVERS. Xo, Sari Mentions: On Becoming a Trial Lawyer – Rick Friedman Quote: “You want big verdicts? You've got to go there emotionally. This is why the Crew exists, by the way. A big reason. Because we know that figuring out how to put an opening statement together or which voir dire questions to ask is just the start. That alone won't get you where you need to go. ‘Let me put some emotion in my voice' is not going to do it. Why? Because you're never going to put emotion in your voice until you feel you're able to risk emotionally and be vulnerable. That's what it takes.” — Sari de la Motte * * * * FREE H2H TRAINING * * * * THREE POWERFUL STRATEGIES TO HELP READ A JUROR'S MIND Understand what the jury is thinking, so you can gain the confidence to trust them - and yourself - in the courtroom. Has President Trump's speech ended? Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) was escorted out of the chamber for continually interrupting the president's speech. So many signs and so little shame from Democrats last night. Daylight Saving Time this weekend! Pope Francis health update. Thirty years of stuffed-crust pizza! Congrats to Grok for its Academy Award predictions. Reminder to Democrats … Trump is NOT cutting Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security. The numerous ways the federal government taxes us. Baseball Hall of Famer Jayson Stark catches up with Mike Missanelli to talk Phillies at the trade deadline. Mike also looks at Eagles' training camp and Jalen Hurts' opening statement.
The Blitz HR1 7.25.24 - First year UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster had a short and embarrassing opening statement going into his turn at Big 10 Media Days from Indianapolis yesterday. While he did provide a great geography lesson, you could definitely tell he wasn't used to speaking in front of crowds. NFL training camps continue to get underway this week as we continue to unravel everything within the league leading up to kickoff.
-Foster was the opening coach to speak at Big 10 Media days on day 2, and it didn't go so great introducing UCLA to the Big 10-How do Jake and Sip react to Foster's freeze up on the podium? Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: betterhelp.com/EARLYBREAKAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Everyone had a interesting story at Big Ten media days on Wednesday, so we'll whip around the league. (0:00-3:21) Intro (3:22-12:15) James Franklin Joins (12:16-18:00) Deshaun Foster's Opening Statement (18:01-24:20) Deshaun Foster Interview (24:21-35:55) Lincoln Riley Entering Year 3 (35:56-37:15) Nebraska Discussion (37:16-43:07) Huskers Center Ben Scott Joins (43:08-50:54) Nebraska's Ty Robinson Joins (50:55-1:13:59) John Canzano joins (1:14:00-1:15:27) Conclusion Penn State coach James Franklin joins the show to discuss how new coordinators Andy Kotelnicki (offense) and Tom Allen (defense) will blend what they've done in the past with what Penn State players have done. Franklin also weighs in a classic Pennsylvania debate: Sheetz or Wawa? New UCLA coach DeShaun Foster's opening statement got panned by the Internet, but the Internet should have listened to how Foster answered the questions he got about taking over the Bruins under less-than-ideal circumstances. Foster joined Andy to talk about replacing Chip Kelly and about how he reshaping UCLA's recruiting operation. Next, Andy breaks down some of USC coach Lincoln Riley's answers at media days. Riley says USC is still playing catch-up, which probably isn't satisfying to hear as year three begins. But if Riley is right about the defense getting better under new coordinator D'Anton Lynn, then there should be reason for excitement. Later, Andy talks to Nebraska center Ben Scott and defensive tackle Ty Robinson about being huge. Finally, Andy sits down with John Canzano (JohnCanzano.com (http://JohnCanzano.com)) to break down how the Big Ten became this new version of itself. Want to watch the show instead? Special Prosecutor Erlinda Ocampo Johnson began her opening statements by presenting her case against Alec Baldwin, alleging recklessness on the set of the film "Rust." Johnson's argument centered on Baldwin's failure to adhere to basic firearm safety protocols and his mishandling of the weapon that led to the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. "The evidence will show that someone who played make-believe with a real gun and violated the cardinal rules of firearm safety is the defendant, Alexander Baldwin," Johnson stated. She informed the jury that Baldwin had requested the "biggest gun" available for the movie and that the firearm was sold to the "Rust" set in "perfect" working order. Johnson emphasized Baldwin's repeated failure to conduct safety checks with the on-set armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, even citing footage of Baldwin during safety training "running around, shooting his gun." Johnson described the critical day Hutchins was shot, highlighting Baldwin's failure to perform a safety check. "You will learn that one of the rounds in that revolver was a real round, and the evidence will show that Ms. Gutierrez then handed the gun to the defendant," Johnson said. "And what you will learn is that, once again, the defendant failed to do a gun safety check with this armorer." Despite Baldwin's emphatic claim that he did not pull the trigger, the prosecution insisted this was not true. Johnson asserted that video footage would show Baldwin using the firearm on set multiple times without any mechanical issues. Additionally, forensic experts from the FBI confirmed the gun's functionality through multiple tests. In contrast, Baldwin's defense, led by attorney Alex Spiro, argued that Baldwin committed no crime. Spiro shifted the focus to how a live bullet ended up on the "Rust" set, stating there was no evidence Baldwin was involved in this mishap or violated gun safety rules. "He was an actor, acting, playing the role of Harland Rust," Spiro said. He explained that the rules of gun safety are different on a movie set, where actors can act in ways that are otherwise dangerous in real life. The defense played the scene from the church where Hutchins was shot, showing Baldwin as Harland Rust being approached by two men pointing guns at him. Spiro described the "Rust" set as relaxed and reassured the jury that Baldwin's gun was deemed "cold" multiple times. "No one had any idea that this venomous, toxic element had been inserted into this magic they were creating," Spiro stated. He placed the blame on the armorer and David Hall, the first assistant director, who was ultimately responsible for on-set safety. Spiro highlighted the division of responsibility on a movie set, arguing that Baldwin's role was to act, not to ensure gun safety. He stressed that Baldwin had no knowledge of the live bullet in the gun. "On a movie set, you're allowed to pull the trigger, so even if he intentionally pulled the trigger, that doesn't make him guilty of homicide," Spiro told the jury. The first witness, Santa Fe Police officer Nicholas LeFleur, testified about the chaotic aftermath of the shooting. LeFleur, the first law enforcement officer on the scene, expressed concerns about witnesses speaking to each other, potentially tainting their statements. He described setting up a crime scene perimeter and instructing Baldwin not to speak to others. However, footage showed Baldwin speaking about the incident, raising questions about whether he defied police orders. Spiro's cross-examination of LeFleur focused on procedural mistakes, with the officer admitting that "hindsight is 20/20." Baldwin's defense continued to challenge the state's narrative, emphasizing the absence of clear evidence that Baldwin was responsible for the live bullet's presence on set. This episode revolves around the prosecution's opening argument in Donald Trump's criminal trial and whether or not the prosecution provided enough evidence to prove their case. Hawk reads the entire transcript of the opening statement delivered by prosecutor Matthew Colangelo on behalf of the Manhattan District Attorney's office. Colangelo meticulously lays out the prosecution's case, accusing Trump of orchestrating a criminal conspiracy to influence the 2016 presidential election by concealing damaging information about himself and paying hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.Hawk asserts that the prosecution not only met but exceeded the commitments made in their opening statement, delivering overwhelming evidence that aligned precisely with Colangelo's outline. He encourages the listeners to reflect on the evidence presented during the trial, emphasizing the prosecution's ability to substantiate every claim made in the opening argument, and expresses confidence in the jury's ability to find Trump guilty of the 34 counts of falsifying business records based on the compelling evidence. That is where the similarities end, as Michael and George have entirely different explanations for what is driving the surge in equity prices. While Michael is renowned for his models on Global Liquidity and closely tracks the changes in central bank balance sheets (most notably the Fed's), George dismisses the Fed entirely and thinks that monetary authorities have effectively zero influence on the economy and stock market. What ensues is a heated debate not just about what is driving the stock market and economy but about the very nature of money and credit creation itself. We're taking a break this week from our class on Reading the Bible for Yourself. By the way, did you know that there's a separate podcast just for classes without any interruptions like this? You can find it if you search your podcast app for Restitutio Classes. Anyhow, I had an opportunity to speak with Dr. Dale Tuggy about his recent debate with Dr. James White and wanted to share that conversation with you now rather than waiting until the end of this class. On March 9, 2024 in Houston Texas at the First Lutheran Church, Dale Tuggy debated James White on the question, "Is Jesus Yahweh?" White affirmed and Tuggy denied. Just to give you a little background on these two scholars, James White is a professor of Apologetics at Grace Bible Theological Seminary and has a bachelors from Grand Canyon University, a masters from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a doctorate of ministry from Columbia Evangelical Seminary. He has participated in over 180 public moderated debates and has written the book The Forgotten Trinity in which he presented his case that the Trinity is biblical. Dale Tuggy is an Analytic Theologian who has a bachelors from BIOLA, a masters from Claremont School of Theology, and a Ph.D. from Brown University. He's the chair of the Unitarian Christian Alliance and the author of What Is the Trinity?, which explains the major Trinity theories and the problems each faces. In what follows, I ask Tuggy how he thought the debate went. Listen to this episode on Spotify or Apple Podcasts The debate lasted over two hours and is accessible on YouTube. The format of the debate was as follows: Opening Statement (25 min each) Rebuttal (10 min each) Cross Examination (10 min each) Concluding Statement (5 min each) Audience Questions (20 min total) Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky2SaHscSIo —— Links —— More interviews with Dale Tuggy here Visit Tuggy's website at trinities.org Check out his books on Amazon, especially What Is the Trinity? Welcome to a special bonus episode of Climate Change on Trial. Mark Steyn‘s opening statement was our most popular episode by far. However we felt bad only giving you excerpts in episode three, so now we present you Mark Steyn's full uncensored, unredacted opening statement. It is a joy to listen to and a speech for the ages. It's a brilliant oratory and a brilliant summary of the case, the issues, and just what is at stake if Professor Michael Mann wins. Welcome to the best defense you'll ever hear of Free Speech Vs The Hockey Stick. Enjoy!
