On Sunday February 13, 2000, 53-year-old Jane Dorotik reported her husband Robert missing after he failed to return home from a jog in Valley Center, CA. An avid runner, Robert’s body was found the next morning. He had been strangled with a rope and his skull was fractured. After investigators found what they purported to be human blood throughout the Dorotik residence, the state developed a theory of Jane’s guilt. She was quickly arrested and tried. The trial, riddled with junk science and faulty forensic testimony, resulted in a jury finding Jane guilty. Despite the defense’s continuous discovery of evidence both during and after jury deliberations, the trial court reinforced the conviction and sentenced Jane to 25 years to life. In this episode, I call out what I believe to be unethical and deceitful practices by the the city of Valley Center, Kansas in their current search for a new city administrator. The have posted on LinkedIn that the salary range for their next administrator is $115,000 to $200,000. However, their original job postings that are still visible on various job boards listed a salary of range of $105,000 to $145,000. And just two weeks ago they passed a salary ordinance that set the salary range for the city administrator at a maximum of $171,000 and the current city administrator who has been there for six years is only making $152,000. It appears they are attempting to bait candidates to apply with the new exaggerated and unattainable salary range so that they can lowball the finalist. The foster son of a Valley Center woman, whose skeletal remains were found on her ranch earlier this year, was ordered to stand trial on nearly three dozen felony counts related to the alleged fraudulent use of the woman's identity. San Diego City Council members will revisit the proposed ordinance that would add metered parking in a portion of Balboa Park after several members said they didn't support it. A local whale watching group got quite the surprise when two sperm whales appeared off the coast of San Diego.

Investigators say the remains of a missing Valley Center woman were found buried on her 20-acre property. Californians are headed to a special election in November, to vote on new democratic-drawn congressional maps.
