A bipartisan group of governors is sounding the alarm about Space Force leadership “aggressively pushing a plan” to move Air National Guard units to the Space Force without states' consent. While the move has not occurred, there are indications that the units will be shifted to the Space Force by the end of the year. Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt said that there has been “no formal notification to, coordination with, or consent obtained from the impacted states.” The statement revives a Biden-era fight over the future of Air National Guard space units and whether they can be moved to the active-duty Space Force without obtaining approval from state governors as required by law. Send us a Text Message. This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, WE DID IT Y'ALL! WE MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO EPISODE 200! The world is a mess and politics has sure gotten weird over the last two weeks but we made 200 episodes of a Colorado Politics podcast and you're still listening! Yes you! On this episode we'll look back at how far we've come, how far we still have to go, and interview one of our favorite guests, Colorado Governor Jared Polis.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis is more pro-freedom than many politicians. He's a rare democrate who talks about economic freedom and individual liberty. But I have problems with some things Polis believes. He wants to force businesses to provide services for gay weddings. He signed universal pre-k, and Colorado lags in school choice. Polis is also unusual because most Democrats won't debate ideas with me. He will.
Rundown - Shad Murib - 08:19 Troubadour Dave Gunders - 01:36:50 "If God Was Watching" by Dave Gunders - 01:53:53 Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's Speech - 01:57:52 Find out why Colorado Dems elected this dynamic leader. Murib grew up in Littleton, Colorado, the son of Arab Lebanese immigrants. Murib learned valuable life lessons growing up in his south Denver suburb, especially when his sibling announced as a lesbian. Murib is a proud progressive. As a Democratic stalwart with talent, Shad Murib has worked for and with Senator John Hickenlooper, Colorado AG Phil Weiser and Colorado Governor Jared Polis. He's married to former State Senator Kerry Donovan and they were married by their friend and political colleague, State Senator Dylan Roberts. We find out about the Copper Bar Ranch that Shad and Kerry own and run high up in Edwards, Colorado. They raise Scottish Highland cattle and wait till you hear the taste described, especially the tenderloin. Stress-free ethical slaughter makes the taste difference. Hear it explained at the end. https://www.thecopperbarranch.com/ This name-dropping episode features further mentions of Colorado's top elected officials with a special shout-out to Rep. Jason Crow and Senator Michael Bennet for their dedication to trying to protect freedom in Ukraine. The host and guest salute the performance of President Biden too, standing up to Putin, Trump and the GOP. Colorado Republican Chair Dave Williams gets discussed, including his taunts at his party chair counterpart. When MAGA goes low, Shad Murib responds with winning policies, strategies and powerful responses. The process in the Colorado CD4 special election necessitated by Rep. Ken Buck's resignation is thoroughly explained. Murib intends for Democrats to be competitive in every part of Colorado including CD5. What will the impact be of Trump's endorsements of Boebert (CD4) and Dave “Let's Go Brandon” Williams in CD5? The connections of Putin to Trump to MAGA-GOQP gets reviewed with Murib worried about fascism. Shad Murib goes on Fox News and will debate any semi-honest broker, but we discuss how far gone Twitter (X) is now with Elon Musk platforming the likes of Alex Jones. Modern media get discussed as do conflicts amongst Dems at the Colorado Capitol. DA races are partisan in Colorado as are Sheriff races. Dems need to compete smarter and harder especially with disingenuous MAGA law enforcers refusing to enforce gun laws like Red Flag which they do not like. Local races are big, but the huge political issue is Trump v the rest of us. Dems must lead us now. https://www.coloradodems.org/ Troubadour Dave Gunders provides a lively conversation about the NYC trial delay. He also loved the SOU by POTUS. His song, If G-d was Watching is aimed at MAGA-GOP-type hypocrites who make money off of Big Lies like Big Con Don, the MAGA-GOQP nominee. https://soundcloud.com/dave-gunders/7-if-god-was-watching The Craig Silverman Show - Every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Colorado time

The potential of geothermal energy in the West is vast and offers significant advantages in the effort to expand renewable energy resources. Advances in technology and increased interest in developing domestic sources of low-cost, reliable, clean energy have brought greater attention to the energy potential of the heat beneath our feet. As Chair of the Western Governors' Association in 2023, Colorado Governor Jared Polis launched The Heat Beneath Our Feet initiative to examine opportunities for and barriers to the accelerated development and deployment of geothermal energy technologies. Through a rigorous stakeholder process that included four workshops, six tours, a public survey, and a webinar series, the Heat Beneath Our Feet initiative generated recommendations for increasing the development and deployment of geothermal energy in the West. In this episode of Out West, Governor Polis shares some of his experiences from the initiative and discusses the policy recommendations outlined in the initiative report. You'll also hear from Amanda Kolker, the laboratory program manager for geothermal at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; Dr. Joseph Moore and Dr. John Mclennan, the Managing Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator at the Utah FORGE Laboratory; Nick Goodman, the CEO of Cyrq Energy, and Paul Thomsen, the Vice President of Business Development at Ormat Technologies Inc.

Our friends at City Cast Salt Lake picked this fight, and we're finally hashing it out. Can Salt Lake City really stack up to the Mile High when it's only situated at a paltry 4,265 feet above sea level? Who has better transit, anyway? And what is with SLC's cookie obsession? Host Bree Davies is joined by producer Paul Karolyi plus a couple of special guests — City Cast Salt Lake's host Ali Vallarta and producer Emily Means — to dig into the myths and facts, and determine once and for all whether we're really rival cities — or just regional siblings who like to argue. Bree mentioned Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Utah Governor Spencer Cox's recent plea for Americans to "disagree better." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, guns are the leading cause of death for children and teenagers in the United States. In Long Beach, gun violence has tragically claimed the lives of many children. Most recently, 12-year-old Eric Gregory Brown III, who was killed in a drive-by shooting that also wounded a 14-year-old girl.School shootings, mall shootings and even church shootings frequently make headlines in America, fueling political debates over the necessity of strict gun laws.In response to the repeated loss of young lives, a movement called Here 4 the Kids has emerged. Started by Black, brown, Indigenous, and women of color, the movement aims to mobilize white women to advocate for a state-by-state complete ban on guns. The movement asserts that white women are less likely to face police brutality and possess various privileges and sources of power that could expedite change and prevent further loss of young lives.Members of Here 4 the Kids have identified Denver, Colorado as their Selma and the starting point of their movement. The group is specifically urging 25,000 white women to convene in Denver on June 5 at 5 a.m. to demand Colorado Governor Jared Polis sign an executive order banning guns and implementing a statewide buyback program.Long Beach residents Brittany Hart Scholten and Kailee Caruso—a former City Council candidate—will be in attendance on June 5. On this episode of The Word, they explain why they think a full gun ban is necessary and why white women everywhere should join the movement. To learn more about the Here 4 Kids you can visit their website or follow them on Instagram.

A daily news briefing from Catholic News Agency, powered by artificial intelligence. Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - Pope Francis said Friday that he plans to visit Mongolia, the world's most sparsely populated sovereign country. In off-the-cuff remarks to employees of the Italian airline company that staffs the papal plane for his international trips, the pope said that he will travel to Mongolia after his scheduled trips to Hungary and France in the coming months. An apostolic journey to Mongolia would make Pope Francis the first pope to visit the Asian country that shares a 2,880-mile border with China, its most significant economic partner. Mongolia has a population of about 1,300 Catholics in a country of more than 3 million people. Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Budapest, Hungary, at the end of this month from April 28–30 in what will be his second visit to the central European country in three years. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/254107/pope-francis-says-that-he-will-travel-to-mongolia Pope Francis on Sunday defended Saint John Paul II against a recent accusation that the Polish pope secretly visited women at night. Pietro Orlandi, the brother of Emanuela Orlandi, a 15-year-old girl and Vatican citizen who went missing 40 years ago, insinuated this week that John Paul II secretly left the Vatican at night to engage in immoral behavior. Speaking to the public on Divine Mercy Sunday, a day established by Pope John Paul II in 2000, Pope Francis called the insinuation “unfounded and offensive.” The disappearance of Orlandi was the subject of a Netflix true-crime docuseries, “Vatican Girl: The Disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi,” which came out last year. The final episode of the series puts forward a theory that the Vatican was somehow involved in the disappearance. The Vatican has always denied having any role in the girl's vanishing and has cooperated with other investigations into the disappearance in recent years. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/254109/pope-francis-defends-st-john-paul-ii-against-offensive-conjectures-from-brother-of-missing-vatican-girl Catholic and pro-life leaders lamented Colorado Governor Jared Polis' final approval of three strongly pro-abortion bills on Friday, objecting that they prioritize abortion “at the cost of countless children's lives.” The new laws ban abortion-pill reversal treatments, greatly restrict advertising for pro-life pregnancy resource centers, require insurance providers to pay for abortions, and remove parental notification for minors seeking an abortion, among other measures. In an April 14 letter, the Catholic bishops of Colorado said there was “a strong outcry” against the three bills. They said the laws are out of step with the 63% of Coloradans who do not support unrestricted abortion. Most residents do not want to pay for abortion in their health insurance and do not want to penalize health care providers who object to abortion and “gender-affirming care.” Bella Health and Wellness, a pro-life, Catholic-founded health care clinic that provides abortion pill reversal, quickly filed a legal challenge to the abortion pill reversal ban, with the backing of the religious liberty legal group Becket. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/254108/colorados-latest-extreme-abortion-laws-will-cost-countless-childrens-lives-pro-life-leaders-warn Today the Church celebrates Saint Stephen Harding, regarded as the founder of the Cistercian monasteries.
