Kalen Bruce of Freedom Sprout tells you why you shouldn't discourage your kids from trade school. Episode 900: We Shouldn't Discourage Our Kids From Trade School by Kalen Bruce of Freedom Sprout on Sending Kids to College Kalen Bruce created Freedom Sprout to fill a void. He heard too many conversations about how "they don't teach finance in schools." It took years for him to stop complaining about it and do something about it. He has five kids, so him and his wife have to get five adults into the world with a solid knowledge of finances. The ultimate goal and vision of Freedom Sprout: To sprout a future of financial freedom for 1,000,000 children. The relationship between the U.S. and China has deteriorated over the last four years. Barely missing a beat from the coronavirus pandemic, China is the only major world economy to post positive growth during the pandemic period, at a rate of 10% at that.  China is now 1/6th larger than the U.S. economy measured by Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), and is projected to outpace the U.S. economy by 135% in just three years’ time, by 2024.  China, moreover, has almost completely displaced the U.S. as the lead trade partner for most nations around the world, toppling the U.S. from that perch with Germany just last year.  And China, as the new Asia Pacific Hegemon, recently formed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, with virtually all Asia Pacific nations, including historically Japan and Korea. Joining me for this conversation is Seoul, Korea based Paul Kim, to explore the potential turbulence between a once-hegemonic U.S. and the now-hegemonic China. Paul also shares updates from other Asian countries that might affect multinationals doing business in Asia. Paul is graduated in Economics from the University of Chicago, with highest honors, and obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard University.  Paul currently serves in private practice as a Corporate Partner in Sheppard Mullin’s Seoul office advising clients on cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity, venture capital and securities transactions, restructurings and multi-jurisdictional disputes.   What We Discussed in This Episode: What is the global perspective on China’s economic assent juxtaposed to the U.S. “disintegration”? Did the coronavirus accelerate China’s growth? Is Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) a better measure of economic power? What does the recently signed Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) trade agreement symbolize in the Asian region? What does the RCEP accomplish for signatory countries? How will the Biden administration deal with Asia now that it has been entirely excluded from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) it once worked for decades to initiate? How can multinational companies integrate into the Chinese economy now and take advantage of business opportunities generally and under the RECP? How are Japan and Korea performing economically in this pandemic era and what sectors are booming in those countries? "Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram,..." – Matthew 1:2"And one of the elders said to me, 'Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.'" – Revelation 5:5It’s Not a Love StoryIf you think your family is crazy then you really need to pay attention to Jesus’ family. Today we are going to be looking at Genesis 38. This chapter is really confusing and pretty dark. For the sake of those who might be using this to read to your children we are going to handle this in a very sensitive way. The truth of the matter that shines through is that our world is full of sin and sinful people, but that will never stop God from keeping his promises. In the lineage of Jesus as recorded in Matthew 1 there are 5 women mentioned in Jesus’ family line. During this season we are going to take a day to think through each one their parts in God’s plan for our salvation. Now we will turn our attention to the unlikely couple of Judah and Tamar.Skipping BranchesAs you remember God planned to have Judah be the tribe that would produce the kings. And since Jesus was going to be born the King of Kings, that means that Judah is going to be his great, great, great, great grandfather. So when we see that Judah has a son named Er, we automatically assume that he is going to be in the line also. However, the Bible just has one sentence about him, “But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD put him to death.” Whuh oh, now what? Well in Jewish culture they had a custom where if the oldest son died without having a baby then the wife would marry her dead husband’s brother so that they could continue the family line. This might sound really weird to us, but that is the way they did it back then. The second son’s name was Onan. However, Onan didn’t like this setup. He didn’t want his brother to get credit for his son so he wouldn’t keep up this custom. And you guessed it, God put him to death too. This is where Judah got really concerned. He only had 3 sons and his first 2 died after being married to Tamar, so he wouldn’t let his third son get married to her. He told Tamar that she needed to just stay single. This is where our story gets really crazy. Tamar was not content to just stay single, she wanted to have a child to carry on the family name, so she tricked Judah into having a baby with her by disguising herself as someone else. Then 3 months later Judah found out that she was pregnant. He was so angry and was going to have her put to death until she let him know that he, himself was actually the father. Whoa, talk about a surprise. He then realized that he had sinned before God and didn’t try to have her punished at all.We Shouldn’t Be SurprisedIsn’t it just like God to accomplish his plans in a way that we would have never guessed? As God makes it clear in Isaiah 55, his ways are not our ways, his thoughts are not our thoughts. As high as the heavens are above the earth so are his thoughts higher than our thoughts. He is thinking on a different plane altogether and he sees all of time from the beginning to the end. Whenever we find ourselves thinking that this isn’t what we would have done we shouldn’t be surprised, even for a second....Read the full article at https://www.swoutfitters.com/resource/advent-9-by-any-means-necessary-genesis-38/

Today, I have here with me Prof. Brian Peskin, a world-leading scientist specializing in parent EFAs — termed PEOs — and their direct relationship to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and wound care (both traumatic and chronic). Brian has always had one goal – to help people — regardless of personal sacrifice. But despite his integrity, Brian has suffered a lot of criticism and even slander as a reward for his hard work. Brian is not alone. Many other health researchers have also spoken the truth and were chastised for it. Brian’s great genius is “connecting the dots” between established sciences that usually remain separated, and coupling his findings with real-life results. He combines theory with practicality in a very unique way. Even though Brian does not always take credit for the science he has studied – he is often only the messenger of the information already published in leading medical textbooks and medical journals — he has also been called a “quack. Brian attended the world’s leading engineering institution, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he studied highly complex mathematics, engineering and physics, along with probability and statistics. He has also studied biochemistry and physiology. Brian’s various fields of study give him a unique systems perspective when applied to health and nutrition. Electrical engineering is an exact science. In this episode, Brian opens the show explaining why people with diabetes are more susceptible to the coronavirus. Brian reveals how we can enhance our bodies with essential oils to fight coronavirus. We need omega-6s! Both omega-6 and omega-3 come from food. The last thing that you want to do it take fish oil. Brian also reveals how we can minimize our risk for the coronavirus, including why oxygen is so essential. Stay tuned as Brian describes why we shouldn’t have self-quarantined and shut down the economy. My Favorite Keto Snack http://www.paleovalley.com use KKA for 15% off [01:30] Why Diabetics Are More Susceptible to the Coronavirus When the virus comes in, PGE1 is impaired even more. Oxygen kills everything. More blood flow means more oxygen. You can take an oil that contains the precursor of what PGE1 needs to do its thing. A 12-inch pizza has 38 teaspoons of sugar. If you eat 20 teaspoons of sugar, you have no leukocytes, which are essential for fighting viruses. Twenty calories from a carbohydrate is a teaspoon of sugar. The more carbohydrates you eat, the more you crave. Right now, people are eating more carbs, and they are doing the worst possible thing in the world for their bodies. People with diabetes are one of the largest at-risk populations.   [19:55] Enhancing Your Body to Fight Coronavirus with Essential Oils Omega-3 and omega-6 come from food. You need much more omega-6 than omega-3. It’s 11 fold more. We have overdosed on processed omega-6. Oils have been converted to be suitable for frying, so they have lowered the omega-6s. This virus isn’t that strong. Most people don’t have symptoms. Our immune system is weaker because we are overdosing on carbs, and we aren’t getting these oils. Fish oil is a poison. It is an overdose!   [33:30] Minimize Your Risk You should avoid fast-food restaurants. If you get fries, eat a third of them. Instead of the whole bun, rip off half of it. Wheat is horrible. It doesn’t matter what kind of wheat it is. You can have some junk as long as you are bringing in some of the good stuff.   [35:00] How to Find Essential Oils Flax oil will help. Eat fish. If you bake it, then most of the oil is gone. Fish oil is processed. The oil is concentrated, it’s horrible for you. If you take fish oil, your heart won’t have the energy to pump. There are no land sources of DHA. Your body makes enough just fine. Be careful with anecdotal stuff – people get misled. [44:15] The Importance of Oxygen for the Body    Decreasing oxygen in the cell can result in cancer. In a study, every heart that had been reduced oxygen got cancer. In the cell membrane, the oxygen can come out of the oils. You want oxygen going in and out of the bloodstream and in and out of the cells. All the oils in a regular supermarket are processed, and the oxygen transferring is profoundly impaired. This is the biggest problem that we have today. When you have a lack of oxygen, you either kill the cell or grow yeast. The yeast is growing sugar. The cell is actually not using the oxygen because it can’t. The oxygen transfer is tied to the omega-6. Everybody in the world is missing the omega-6s. All the fish oil studies are finding that it fails.   [59:20] We Shouldn’t Have Self-Quarantined People are unemployed, and they are not going to have money for food. If you are in panic mode, your immune system will go down. When you are in panic mode, you are burning oxygen. It’s the worst thing we could have done is to panic people. The numbers are not in an epidemic that we are led to believe. The numbers are not growing. It doesn’t warrant an epidemic. The solution is worse than the problem. If people with diabetes don’t get insulin, their blood sugar stays high, and they are at risk for everything. AND MUCH MORE! Piercing is the story of man named Reed (played by Christopher Abbott) who is encouraged by his newborn baby to drug, kill, and dismember a prostitute in a hotel room. Murder isn’t as easy as it sounds, and after a Sitcom-esque introduction of Jackie the prostitute (played by Mia Wasikowska), his plans are inadvertently foiled. What follows is a weird sitcom trope of “will they, won’t they”, only referring to murder and not fucking. 0:35 - Intro7:00 - Trailer9:14 - Synopsis/Review10:41 - Score12:43 - Spoilers/Discussion40:43 - Final Recommendations43:57 - State of the Podcast Address1:14:52 - Horror Movie News1:20:03 - Special Thanks and Outro Piercing is a stylistic short film plot that was convincingly stretched to a feature length film. The director Nicolas Pesce borrows skillfully from many of my favorite directors. There is a bit of Tarantino, some Wes Anderson, and a healthy dose of David Lynch are included throughout. There aren’t many scares, but lots of tension and surprising moments. The performances of both lead actors were captivating to watch and provided foundation for the unhinged plot. https://youtu.be/7pj5u4r_eSE The plot of Reed trying to kill a hooker only really serves as a framework to explore a murky dreamscape of Reed’s psyche and the mysterious intentions of Jackie. If you want a movie with a beginning, middle, and an end, you might have to settle for 2 out of 3. However, I can definitely say that Piercing was an enjoyable movie, and I can definitely recommend seeing it if you like art-house horror. Want To Watch It Now?Click the button below to watch it on AmazonPiercing Score for Piercing 7/10 Piercing balances psychological horror and dark comedy adeptly while maintaining a fresh yet familiar style. Piercing Movie Spoilers Stylistically, this film reminded me of several other directors' work: Quentin Tarantino - The 70's cool, yet time period ambiguous settingWes Anderson - The use of miniatures and the matter-of-fact absurd comedyDavid Lynch - The surrealistic drug trips and dream logicPaul Thomas Anderson - Specifically Punch Drunk Love with the slightly twisted yet still somehow wholesome interaction between the leads. Reed is an unreliable narrator and several times throughout the film, he is encouraged to go through with killing a prostitute. Those encouraging him in order are: His newborn babyThe hotel clerkHis wife It is obvious that something is not right with Reed, and that he is at the very least a paranoid schizophrenic, and could also just as likely be dreaming. Check Out Our Review of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension! https://www.horrormovietalk.com/2018/12/24/ghost-dimension-review/ Dream logic abounds with strange actions and conversational non-sequiturs. Towards the end of the film when Reed is tying up Jackie, he does so in a impotent and lazy wrap of the rope only around her wrists. Piercing starts out with small doses of hallucinations and slowly descends to full a full on bad trip with a little girl stabbing bunny. It's a wild ride, but enjoyable if you like stylistic psychological horror. Final Recommendations This is a great movie for people that like foreign films but don’t want to read subtitles. That sounds sarcastic, but if you watch it (which I suggest you do) it will make sense. Check Out Our Guest Spot on We Shouldn't Be Here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exvW7TbHEF8

Corey A. DeAngelis of the Cato Institute joins the podcast to discuss his review of the school choice research. Is public schooling a public good, a merit good, or a demerit good? Public schooling fails both conditions specified in the standard economic definition of a public good. In order to place public schooling into one of the remaining two categories, I first assess all of the theoretical positive and negative externalities resulting from public schooling as opposed to publicly financed universal school vouchers. Then, in an original contribution to the literature, I quantify the magnitude and sign of the net externality of government schooling in the United States using the preponderance of the most rigorous scientific evidence. We discuss this paper in addition to a recent blog post Corey wrote entitled "We Shouldn’t Need to Use Science to Grant Educational Freedom." Corey argues that we should have a strong presumption in favour of letting families choose where their kids go to school. In the academic debate on school choice, people adopt an implicit balance of evidence standard for supporting or opposing school choice. But it makes more sense to place the burden of evidence on those who seek to limit others' choices.

Well here we are in my least favorite phase of the election season. The part when pundits and politicians pile on en masse to pull back public aspirations. Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton, calls it the "We Shouldn't Even Try" attitude common among establishment Democrats. Ralph Nader calls them “The hereditary Democrat opinion-shapers” who tell their audiences to line up behind experience and electability - as if it's that or certain death. “This is designed to panic and mute their followers,” says Nader, and all too often it does just that. Think about it — what brings people into the political process? I think of what Progressive Caucus co-chair Keith Ellison said when I asked him if he liked campaigning. I love it, he responded - it's the time in the year when we talk to our neighbors about their lives and why we care. His eyes lit up. Sure enough, a successful candidate is one like Ellison, the guy who rallies people to believe that the future is about more than fear - and change is possible, in their lives, in their families, in their country. And they can be a part of it. Bernie Sanders has rallied a lot people - just that way — most especially young voters. He's received 80 plus percent of the youth vote in several states. What happens in elections, is candidates talk to people, eyes bright, promises on their lips. They persuade people they can be powerful, they matter, they're needed. But what we tend to mean is vote. And after voting, people are expected to cede all their political power back to their political representatives. The panic and mute sets in early in the US system, after the primaries. No wonder the electorate shrinks smaller and smaller. Will Sanders supporters do it? What if they don't? What if they channeled their energy into building progressive power at the local level? What if they refused to give in to panic and mute? Tell me what you think. Write to me Laura@lauraflanders.com
