Para desentrañar qué es lo que hace que el país de Di Stéfano, Maradona, Messi sea una potencia productora, no solo de jugadores, sino también de directores técnicos de primer nivel, nuestro corresponsal en Argentina visitó clubes y academias de Buenos Aires y Rosario, donde habló con formadores, técnicos, captadores y aspirantes a jugadores que sueñan con jugar en las grandes ligas. Argentina es una máquina de producir jugadores de clase mundial no solo para su selección nacional, sino para los mejores equipos del mundo, entre otros, los que compiten en la Champions League europea. Argentina también es una productora de directores técnicos de enorme nivel: seis selecciones son dirigidas por argentinos en este Mundial. El Club Parque, en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, es un histórico semillero de grandes jugadores de fútbol. En la entrada, un cartel dice que el club es "cuna de cracks". En sus paredes están colgadas las camisetas de futbolistas notables que se formaron ahí. "Estos son muchos de los chicos que salieron del club. Bueno, ahí está la mía, La Paglia", dice César La Paglia, director deportivo del Club Parque. La Paglia tuvo una carrera exitosa como futbolista en Argentina y Europa, además de jugar en juveniles de la selección albiceleste. Mientras hablamos, los chicos están practicando baby fútbol, una versión del deporte que se juega en canchas más pequeñas; y que favorece el control, la gambeta corta, la velocidad mental y la creatividad bajo presión. Eso contribuye al desarrollo de jugadores rápidos, pícaros y habilidosos. Todo empieza con el "baby foot"  Para La Paglia, el “baby fútbol” permite trabajar muy bien los fundamentos del deporte. "A ver, lo más importante en el baby fútbol siempre es el pase, se trabaja mucho lo que es el control y el pase, y después se trabaja con conos, lo que es la técnica, se usa mucho la pisada en el baby fútbol, pisar para un lado, pisar para el otro". “Buen jugador se nace”, cree La Paglia, pero la formación es clave. Y esta etapa es fundamental. "En el desarrollo de un jugador de fútbol, futuro jugador de fútbol, esta es para mí la instancia que los chicos más incorporan, es el 'infanto juvenil' digamos, es el preescolar o el jardín de infantes de los chicos del fútbol, donde desarrollan toda la parte técnica, si bien el chico naturalmente ya viene con la técnica, pero acá se le mejora mucho". "Gracias a los profes juego así" Nahuel Díaz tiene diez años, juega desde los tres, y tiene claro qué es lo que aprende aquí. "Aprendí muchas cosas: control del balón, pegarle fuerte al arco, empeine, y también zig zag. Todo eso me lo enseñaron los profes. Gracias a los profes puedo jugar así". La dedicación al deporte no es solo de los niños, es también un compromiso para toda la familia. Así lo explica Cristian Díaz, papá de Nahuel. "Hay toda una logística importante a nivel familiar, tanto los horarios de colegio, salida de las corridas, venir acá, o ir al otro club. Incluso los sábados hay que compaginar también con mi trabajo. Mi señora también trabaja. Es todo un tema de cuadrar los horarios para llegar a cumplir con los entrenamiento y los partidos.   Cristian dice que se cuida mucho de no generar una presión excesiva sobre su hijo, algo que ocurre en algunos casos. Es que para los chicos y sus familias el fútbol puede ser una vía de ascenso social y prestigio, lo que aumenta la presión sobre ellos, pero explica asimismo el número creciente de jugadores que intentan profesionalizarse. Rosario, "ciudad-cantera" de cracks Rosario, situada a 300 kilómetros al norte de la ciudad de Buenos Aires,  es, con relación a su cantidad de habitantes, la principal cantera de grandes jugadores de Argentina. En su costanera, un cartel asegura que esta es la Capital Mundial del Fútbol. Aquí nació Lionel Messi y la ciudad lo recuerda con murales en varios edificios. Uno de ellos, que muestra a un Messi de niño, vigila desde un edificio las instalaciones del modesto club de barrio en el que dio sus primeros pasos en el fútbol. Abanderado Grandoli, con sus colores naranja y blanco, y su cancha de césped amarronado por el otoño, recibe a niños que disputan una fecha del torneo local. Leandro Zavala mira uno de los partidos, es profesor de los chicos de la categoría 2018, y cuenta qué implica que Messi haya jugado aquí. "Es un orgullo de que sus primeros pasos hayan sido acá. Esto es algo que uno le transmite también a los chicos, a mí que me tocó arrancar con los de 2018, se los transmito para que ellos lo sepan, para que sepan qué escudo están defendiendo, qué colores, para que recuerden que el mejor del mundo pasó por acá, estuvo en esta misma cancha". Leandro es también papá de Benjamín, de 10 años, quien sueña con una carrera en el fútbol. "Me gustaría mucho jugar profesionalmente, me encantaría. Es uno de mis sueños. Me gustaría mucho jugar en Europa, algún equipo de Europa como Barcelona, Real Madrid. Y en la selección argentina, obviamente". Leer tambiénColombia, cuna de talentos futbolísticos para los clubes europeos y el Mundial A diferencia de otros países en los que el fútbol infantil es puramente recreativo, en Argentina los niños juegan en torneos competitivos. Los chicos como Benjamín se toman muy en serio el fútbol. "No me gusta faltar al entrenamiento mucho porque pierdo el rendimiento. Y es demasiado feo cuando perdés el rendimiento o cuando te enfermás", dice Benjamín. El amor por el fútbol atraviesa todo aquí. Esa obsesión que hay en Rosario con el deporte, el jugar en todos lados, todo el tiempo, explica también por qué tantos grandes futbolistas emergen de esta ciudad-cantera. Así lo explica Leandro Zavala: "Vivimos jugando al fútbol en cualquier parte de la ciudad, en cualquier parte estamos jugando al fútbol. Vas al parque y ves chicos jugando al fútbol, ves grandes, a nivel nacional también es así, pero en Rosario se vive de otra manera". La formación en los cientos y cientos de clubes del país, el acompañamiento de las familias, el respirar fútbol día tras día, todo el tiempo, explican en parte por qué Argentina produce tantos grandes jugadores. Pero parece haber algo que los futbolistas argentinos traen casi desde la cuna. Jugar en potreros, la gran diferencia "Siempre me llamó la atención. Yo digo, acá pasa algo que no pasa en otros lugares. Entonces alguna respuesta tiene que haber", dice Sandra Rossi,  especializada en medicina del deporte. Ella trabaja en neurociencia aplicada al alto rendimiento en el club River Plate, de Buenos Aires, y tiene una posible respuesta a la pregunta de qué es eso que los jugadores argentinos parecen traer desde la cuna. "Cuando todas las cosas están previstas, cuando vos tenés rutinas, cuando todo está bien, cuando las canchas son impecables, hay poco desafío para el cerebro. Argentina es un país en el que exactamente nos pasa lo contrario. Nunca sabemos qué va a pasar mañana. Y los chicos, sobre todo los que llegan, los que se van acercando al fútbol profesional, por lo general vienen de lugares que son potreros. El potrero es para mí el primer laboratorio de neurociencia que existe, tiene las características de la imprevisibilidad. Son terrenos de tierra donde uno no sabe cómo va a picar la pelota. Entonces, ese chico a la fuerza tiene que desarrollar un control de su cuerpo mucho más fino que un chico que empieza a jugar al fútbol en una cancha que está perfecta. Considero que esa es una de las grandes ventajas de los argentinos". Esos son, justamente, los chicos que buscan los clubes como River Plate. "Nos acercamos a los chicos, tratamos de ponernos cerca de él, le preguntamos el nombre, de dónde sos, ¿siempre jugaste en esta posición? ¿No te animás a jugar en otra posición?", explica Luis Pereyra, director del área de captación en el interior del país de River. Su equipo de 28 personas viaja por todo el territorio argentino para detectar potenciales futuros cracks. Lo que él busca es muy preciso. "Nosotros tenemos que traer un chico al 60-65% de la técnica individual, un chico que con las dos piernas intente eludir un contrario para jugar. Ése es el primer punto. Esta camiseta es para tipos inteligentes. Segundo: el carácter. A ver cómo se enoja cuando le dan una patada, cuando se cae, cómo se manifiesta ante la adversidad". Los jugadores que encuentran Luis Pereyra y su equipo luego pasan a las manos de Gabriel Rodríguez, uno de los grandes gestores de la fábrica de futbolistas que es Argentina. Rodríguez es coordinador de las divisiones inferiores de River. Hace 27 años que se dedica a esto y sabe bien cómo desarrollar el talento que le traen los captadores. "Nosotros priorizamos mucho el tema de la técnica individual. Además de los trabajos esenciales que se hacen en cancha, que los hacen todas las instituciones, nosotros sí tenemos nuestros 45 o 50 minutos todos los días de un trabajo específico de técnica individualizada". Es un proceso que va puliendo a los jugadores, intentando acercarlos a su máximo potencial, y que los convierte muchas veces en atractivos para mercados internacionales, algo que también empuja el desarrollo de futbolistas de calidad. "Somos países en América que tenemos la necesidad de exportar constantemente jugadores para que también las arcas de las instituciones se puedan engrandecer", dice Gabriel Rodríguez. River Plate, exportador No. 1  River Plate es uno de los grandes equipos del país. Es el principal proveedor histórico de jugadores de la selección y el mayor exportador del fútbol argentino, aunque preferiría muchas veces que los cracks se queden con ellos, dice Andrés Ballotta, vicepresidente de River, sentado en una de las butacas del estadio del club. "A muchos de nosotros... no, a todos nosotros, nos gustaría disfrutar a nuestros jugadores muchísimo más, ¿no? Obviamente el mercado europeo, de sobra está decirlo, es un mercado económicamente muy superior al nuestro. Ese mercado ansía los jugadores de River. En los últimos 5 años hemos alcanzado ventas por más de 200 millones de dólares". Esas ventas dan un aire económico a los clubes y al fútbol local, además de ampliar las oportunidades de los futbolistas. Pero Argentina no sólo exporta jugadores, también es una fábrica de directores técnicos. Entrenadores, capacidad de adaptación  Tan es así, que en el Mundial 2026, cinco selecciones, además de la albiceleste, son dirigidas por técnicos argentinos. Es un récord histórico que tiene explicación. "Yo creo que el entrenador argentino se adapta muy fácilmente a cualquier cultura", dice Eduardo González, director de la Escuela de Técnicos del Club Parque, avalada por la Asociación de Técnicos de Fútbol Argentino."Generalmente el entrenador argentino tiene como esa llama que cree que puede solucionar los problemas o formar equipos muy competitivos, puede desarrollar buenos equipos y también puede adaptarse a equipos que, quién sabe, no tienen muy buenos jugadores, pero bueno va sacando y va puliendo, tiene ese ojo diferente como para salir airoso de una situación". A eso se suma que la abundancia de jugadores en una economía con dificultades como la la de la Argentina también lleva a un gran interés por la carrera de técnico. Muchos futbolistas que se retiran o dejan de jugar por una lesión siguen ese camino, como Carlos Morelli, que está participando de esta clase, jugó en inferiores de River y tuvo que dejar su carrera como futbolista.  "Mi sueño es volver a entrar en River y dirigir algunas categorías de lo más chicos", dice Morelli. Dándole indicaciones a los alumnos está Juan De Angelis, profesor de la escuela. De Angelis tiene 30 años de técnico y 19 en esta escuela. "Ahí va, paro y toco, paro y toco", dice a los muchachos. Según él, el éxito de los técnicos argentinos viene de la formación y de su capacidad para entregar resultados. "Por lo general, los técnicos argentinos tienen muy buena base. Han dirigido selecciones infantiles y juveniles, se preparan muy bien. Están capacitados y han logrado resultados importantes mediante el trabajo, el buen nivel de jugadores. Y eso les da la posibilidad de que, en lo laboral, les den equipos de selecciones para dirigir". El resultado de todos estos procesos formativos, tanto de jugadores como de técnicos, sobre la base de una cultura que vive y respira el deporte, sumado a la sofisticación que representa llegar a las ligas más competitivas del mundo, se vio reflejado en el triunfo albiceleste en el Mundial 2022. Y llena de expectativa a este país "locos por el fútbol" cuando faltan pocos días para el inicio del Mundial 2026.

Matt studied theatre at the University of Southern Maine and The Boston Conservatory before heading down Route 95 to NYC in 2004. In June 2009, Matt got the call to make his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning production of HAIR with Tony Award winner Diane Paulus at the helm. Matt continued with that production, “Across the Atlantic Sea,” to the West End in the role of “Woof,” then launched the first national US Tour of HAIR, and was seen back on Broadway in the “Summer of Love” revival of HAIR. Following his time with the hippies, Matt launched the first national tour of Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT as the “Representative from Jingletown”. Matt's cross-country adventures continued in 2014 with the first national tour of ONCE, where he played “Svec” and five instruments. Over the last five years, Matt has been a veteran of almost 2,000 performances.  Thankfully, Matt returned home to Broadway (again with Diane Paulus) in the hit musical WAITRESS, where he starred opposite Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller, two-time Grammy winner Jason Mraz, and seven-time Grammy nominee and the show's composer, Sara Bareilles. He then toured the country with the WAITRESS National Tour as Earl opposite his real-life wife, Christine Dwyer, as Jenna. Upon returning from the road, Matt was a part of developing the World Premiere of The Secret Life of Bees at The Atlantic Theatre Company, directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold. He also appeared in Orpheus Descending at Theatre for a New Audience.  Matt DeAngelis also started the Janice Jam in memory of his mother, Janice, who passed from metastatic breast cancer in 2022. This annual event channels the magic of Broadway to honor those we've lost, uplift those fighting, and fund critical research. This event serves as a yearly celebration of Janice, her love for theater, and raising money for those affected by metastatic breast cancer.   An all-star group of performers is joining Matt and his wife, Christine Dwyer, this year. In a post to social media, Higgins explained his decision—citing concern that the bill does not do enough to protect the identities of victims and witnesses. 3:10pm- Private Property Rights Under Threat in the Garden State: New Jersey towns are beginning to push back against the state's affordable housing obligations. The ambitious quotas are trampling property rights—and, as Rich notes, high density housing will almost certainly lead to more Democrat voters moving to NJ. 3:30pm- On Tuesday, President Donald Trump met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the Oval Office where Saudi Arabia pledged to invest $1 trillion in the United States economy. During a contentious moment, ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce asked about the September 11th terror attacks and the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. 4:00pm- According to reporting from Robert Jimison of The New York Times, Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he believes the Epstein bill will be voted on in the Senate quickly, without any amendments. He explained, “when a bill passes 427 to 1, and the president says he'll sign it into law, I'm not sure there's going to be a need or desire for an amendment process.” 4:15pm- While speaking with the press, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was asked why Democrats didn't release the Epstein files when they were in power. Meanwhile, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) said Schumer should be replaced as leader—suggesting Chris Murphy, Cory Booker, Brian Schatz, and Elizabeth Warren would be better suited for the position. 4:30pm- While speaking at a Turning Point USA event, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. questioned why there has been a sudden uptick in food allergies over the last 30 to 40 years. “There's a different view of what could be happening in this country. We need to figure out what's causing it and eliminate it.” He continued: “Five of my seven children have allergies. What happened? Something happened. While speaking with the press aboard Air Force One, Trump said: “I'm not too much in a mood to negotiate” with Iran any longer. 3:10pm- According to a report from Alex Leary and Josh Dawsey of The Wall Street Journal, President Donald Trump met with advisors in the situation room on Tuesday—and is at least considering a U.S. strike on Iran. 3:15pm- Montage: For years, President Donald Trump has insisted that Iran cannot be allowed to develop and possess a nuclear weapon. 3:40pm- The New York Times reports that Fordo—“Iran's most heavily fortified nuclear site”—was constructed deep within a mountain and contains 3,000 sophisticated centrifuges. It's believed Israel does not possess the capabilities to destroy the facility unilaterally and they would require assistance from the U.S. which possesses 30,000-pound bombs. Part of the problem, according to reports, is Disney's unwillingness to put the film's star, Rachel Zegler, on an extended promotional tour due to her past controversial comments which have included criticisms of the original Snow White story, nasty comments about castmates, and profane remarks about President Donald Trump and his supporters. According to a new report from Variety, one of the film's producers needed to fly to Zegler and plead with her to stop posting polarizing messages on social media.

He was in the country illegally. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated: “America is safer today because one of the top domestic terrorists in MS-13…is off the streets. When eighteen-year-old recent high school graduate Tiffany Valiante was struck and killed by a train in July 2015, the news came as a shock to friends and family, who couldn't fathom why the teenager had been out walking the tracks that night. Their shock and confusion quickly turned to outrage and disbelief when, less than twenty-four hours later, Tiffany's death was ruled a suicide by the New Jersey Transit Police, who were tasked with investigating the incident. As far as everyone knew, Tiffany was a happy, outgoing girl with a bright future and a sports scholarship to Mercy College in the fall—they couldn't think of a single reason why she would have wanted to end her life. Despite the official conclusions about her death, the Valiante family have never believed Tiffany intentionally stepped in front of the train that night, and in the months and years that have passed since her death, many other people have come to a similar conclusion. In fact, they're confident the evidence and numerous unanswered questions suggest Tiffany had not gone into the woods voluntarily and that her death is at best suspicious, and at worst a murder.
