Co-curators Sarah Henry and Derrick León Washington discuss the exhibit "Urban Stomp: Dreams & Defiance on the Dance Floor," which opens on April 11.

“Target (TGT) to me is really interesting,” says Sarah Henry, “they have learned a lot” from Walmart (WMT) and have a lower multiple. Jan Rogers Kniffen likes Walmart (WMT) and Costco (COST) and thinks Target needs to “step up their game.” He prefers Home Depot (HD) to Lowe's (LOW), expecting it to continue outperforming its competitors every quarter. ======== Schwab Network ======== Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. The Democratic National Convention is being held in Chicago this week and many Americans will be re-introduced to V.P. Kamala Harris when she delivers her speech on Thursday night. I have a background in local Democratic politics and have always been a strong supporter of women running for office. Earlier this summer, we held in-person workshops for women who are running in the Central Florida area where we helped them with their public speaking and storytelling. It was a lot of fun and it showed me once again how powerful someone's personal story is! In this episode, I'm joined by two of those women, Jennifer Adams, who's running for U.S. Congress in Florida's District 7, and Sarah Henry, who's running for Florida State House in District 38. We talk about: Why they decided to run for office and the importance of asking women to run What it's like being a female candidate and having a public voice and presence Their stump speeches and how they tailor them based on the audience The surge of support and enthusiasm for V.P. Kamala Harris's campaign for President and what that tells us about the importance of authenticity The lessons they've learned about being themselves vs. trying to be someone they thought they should be What they learned about storytelling, taking up space, and messaging from the workshops we did with then The importance of donating to women candidates (find local women that you can donate to!) The Last Best Hope?: Understanding America from the Outside In
For as long as there have been elections, there have been those who've refused to trust them. But anxiety about elections has peaked at particular moments in American history – in the run-up the Civil War, in the late nineteenth century, in the Civil Rights era, and again today. All periods when sections of the population became convinced that the rules were being bent in ways that robbed ordinary Americans of their political power – by new immigrants, African Americans, or liberal elites. At each moment of anxiety, attempts have been made to purify the electoral process, and all have had mixed and unintended consequences. In this episode, Adam discusses the long history of anxiety about election rigging with Frank Towers of the University of Calgary, an expert on electoral history, and Sarah Henry, the Chief Curator of the Museum of the City of New York, with whom Adam discussed a curious glass ballot box.Producer: Emily Williams. Presenter: Adam Smith. The Last Best Hope? podcast is a production of the Rothermere American Institute, University of Oxford. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

How do you ground yourself, when the whole room is showering you with energy and looking up to you googly eyed, as their leader? In conversation with Sarah Henry, uncovering all the mistakes one can make when in the position of power over others energies, and how to avoid those terrible traps, for your own health, before anybody else's.
Here Katrina Webb puts Sarah Henry and I right , the expression she always goes back to is “your body is your barometer” . Katrina tells us that we need to listen to it. Because it is so often right! She says she meets too many leaders who are intellectual and spend too much time in their heads. Our bodies might just tell us to lie down quietly or run up a hill NOW - just at the right moment - before we blow the next meeting or process or thinking. And Katrina adds that a strong relationship with our bodies is a starting point for having a strong relationship with others, it helps us to judge as leaders “when to come in and out”.

What is on your white board when you are leading change? Pictures and profiles identifying key people? Lines and Arrows analysing systems? I am intuitively the first. My white board is full of people. Sarah Henry has been thinking a lot about being a member of the expedition. And she took me on “the way you think Julia sort of implies the problem is women, when actually its the systems that don't work. Or rather they do, because they were designed to work for men”. So this podcast is devoted to systems thinking. And then I spoke to Alia Whitney-Johnson and Melissa Kwee who have achieved so much in Sri Lanka, California and Singapore through smart systems thinking . Their white boards seem to be a mixture of pictures and arrows. People and systems. They say the sweat spot is where the two meet. Sarah is right.

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — There's a new push to try and stop the spread of the delta variant -- mandating vaccines. This week we've seen local officials calling for state and city workers to either get the jab or submit to weekly testing. Can they do that? What about your employer? While the numbers for hospitalizations and deaths are still relatively low, a spike in new COVID-19 cases, with a majority of them being caused by the delta variant, is causing a new string of reactions from government officials and local businesses. Some are requiring you to get the vaccine before you can go to work, with the city saying they would even withhold pay. On this episode, we'll look at whether employees are required to get a vaccination to work. We'll speak with an employment attorney and jobs expert, Jonathan Bell, to find workers' rights. We'll also check in with Sarah Henry from the museum of the city of new york to see how this vaccination push compared to previous vaccine campaigns. Beyond Reproach gets a little spooky! We bring you two historically dark scandals for your listening pleasure. Start your Halloween season off right!. This episode we drink a pre-colonial crambamble also known as a Hot Ale Flip (https://www.beyondreproachpod.com/the-cocktails/2019/8/29/episode-13-colonial-ale-flip) which tastes like a boozy pumpkin spice latte. Cheers y’all, to autumn! Also discussed: Ye olde basics, milk skin, Gucci straight-dresses, spiders, mental illness, Michael Bloomberg’s shameful “spanish,” chernobyl, Ernest and Madea movies. Stephanie’s scandal revolves around the unfortunately short life and relatively long afterlife of Sarah Shelton Henry, Patrick Henry’s wife. The basement where she was chained is site of paranormal activity. Join us for our first (though possibly last) historical political scandal ghost story! The future can sometimes seem daunting and frightening, but it can also feel like an unwritten adventure. As children, we played in a world of infinite possibilities, in which imagination—not predestination — ruled the day. In the fifth episode of Exiles on 12th Street, we explore possibilities the future may hold. From looking at provocative art about modern architecture to cell-based meat and sustainable cities, the “Futures” episode a world that has not yet come to fruition. Come invent the future with our guests: Afrofuturist artist Olalekan Jeyifous; restaurant owner Ravi DeRossi and the Good Food Institute’s Mary Allen; and museum curator Sarah Henry. The episode is presented by your host, historian Claire Potter, executive editor of Public Seminar. Image by: Olalekan Jeyifous
Today's episode takes a deep dive into executive privilege, evaluating the legal arguments being raised by the Trump administration asserting executive privilege over former communications director Hope Hicks and former counsel Don McGahn. Find out how good those arguments are -- spoiler: some aren't terrible! -- and what's next for the Congressional Democrats. First, though, we begin with coverage of the American Legion v. American Humanist Ass'n decision from last week; that's the Bladensburg Cross case that we've discussed at some length on this show. How bad is this decision? (Bad.) Then, it's time for the intersection of Rapid Response Friday and Deep Dive Tuesday in which we time travel all the way back to 1971 to evaluate the Trump Administration's claims regarding executive privilege "over the last five decades." As you've come to expect from OA, we tell you what the administration got right... and, of course, what they got wrong. If you want to know if and when Congress will ever get meaningful testimony out of Hope Hicks or Don McGahn, you need to listen to this show. Then, it's time for the answer to TTTBE #131 about the propriety of a specific question during cross-examination of a witness who testified as to the defendant's "reputation for honesty." If you love the Federal Rules of Evidence -- and really, who doesn't? -- you'll love this segment. Appearances None! If you’d like to have either of us as a guest on your show, drop us an email at openarguments@gmail.com. Show Notes & Links We first discussed the Bladensburg Cross case in Episode 256 with Sarah Henry of the AHA, and then got first-hand testimony about the oral argument in Episode 274 with Monica Miller. Click here to read the full Supreme Court opinion in American Legion v. American Humanist Ass'n. If you missed our coverage of Masterpiece Cakeshop, check out Episode 180. We first broke down the importance of Hope Hicks to the Congressional investigations in Episode 259; and you can click here to read the letter and subpoena she received from Rep. Nadler. NPR confirmed that Hicks's testimony was carefully managed by White House lawyers (and was therefore worthless). Finally, this is Committee on the Judiciary v. Miers, 558 F.Supp.2d 53 (2008), the district court opinion Andrew breaks down on the show. -Support us on Patreon at: patreon.com/law -Follow us on Twitter: @Openargs -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/openargs/, and don’t forget the OA Facebook Community! -For show-related questions, check out the Opening Arguments Wiki, which now has its own Twitter feed! @oawiki -And finally, remember that you can email us at openarguments@gmail.com!
Today's episode -- #OpposeJustinWalker -- tells you everything you need to know about Donald Trump's latest nominee for a lifetime appointment to the federal bench (and Andrew's former debate opponent) Justin Walker. You already know he's a lifelong member of the Federalist Society. Why is it specifically worth opposing him? Listen and find out! First, though, the guys break down the Supreme Court's 7-2 ruling in U.S. v. Gamble, affirming the "dual sovereignty" doctrine and finally putting the last nail in the coffin of a crazy lefty conspiracy theory we debunked way back in Episode 215. And, as a bonus (?), we find out why Clarence Thomas's concurrence is "the most horrifying thing in print in the past 50 years." Seriously! After that breakdown, it's time to analyze the background and writings of Justin Walker. We learn that he has virtually no litigation experience and that he's a right-wing ideologue; you probably expected that. But you'll also learn that his two major contributions to academic jurisprudence are (1) arguing that transparency in government is a bad, possibly unconstitutional thing; and (2) arguing that the FBI Director has a moral obligation to be the President's lackey. We are not making any of this up. Then, it's time for Thomas Takes The Bar Exam and a question on the propriety of a introducing a particular fact into evidence as the predicate for a cross-examination question. Is it hearsay? Is it impeachment? Is it just hunky-dory? Listen and find out! Appearances None! If you’d like to have either of us as a guest on your show, drop us an email at openarguments@gmail.com. Sarah Henry, MA in Psychology and certified health and wellness coach, believes that as life continues to become busier and more demanding, we tend to lose ourselves in the never-ending frenzy. This initiates the cycle of negative self-talk; we feel angry and disappointed that we aren't perfect, and we take it out on ourselves. Sarah believes that we become our own worst enemies, and truly out of touch with who we are and what lights us up.Join our new 3 Day Social Media Detox at www.believeberealbebold.com If you love the BBR Podcast and would like to show your support, please click here to donate today! Sarah Henry on how #MeToo is playing out in San Francisco. She covers both the problems and the potential solutions, with a focus on what restaurants can do to make change happen and make restaurants safer for all workers. In Boston, a small company called Cask Force is aging quality maple syrup in barrels to create complex layers of flavor that rise above the level of pancakes.

We bookend the interview with an Andrew Was Right segment about the recent Supreme Court ruling in Timbs v. Indiana first discussed back in Episode 234. In this episode, Bo Bennett interviews Bob Ready, Chair of Camp Quest, along with Sarah Henry, a long time camper. Camp Quest, the secular summer camp, is a place for fun, friends, and freethought for kids ages 8-17. They provide a traditional sleep-away summer camp experience with a wide range of activities including sports, crafts, games, swimming, and campfires. In addition to traditional summer camp activities, Camp Quest offers educational activities focused on critical thinking, ethics, scientific inquiry, philosophy, and comparative religion. Camp Quest is open to all children and teenagers, but it is particularly geared towards building a community for children from atheist, agnostic, humanist and other freethinking families. Their goal is to provide a place where children can explore their developing worldviews, ask questions, and make friends in an environment that is supportive of critical thinking and skepticism.
