Football Transfer Portal Starts at 1:00 Wwwwwwelcome! To one of the internet's college football podcasts. We can't wait to talk about Mick Cronin. The defensive front seven looks pretty set for next year, now just need a cornerback (which happened after recording). OL Lawrence Hattar transfers in from Ferris State, he will likely move to guard. Still need a tackle but most plug and play guys are off the board. Everyone is nervous about wide receiver, this is problematic because Chip Lindsey wants a balanced attack. They might have to overpay for a receiver at some point. Michigan is good at tight end (unless it's one that looks like a wide receiver). WE HAVE A LONG SNAPPER.  [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP]  2. Men's Basketball vs UCLA Starts at 26:22 The win over UCLA is probably not going to look as good by the end of the year. Michigan had an 18 point lead, then was down by 5, then wins by 19 (something similar may have happened under Juwan Howard?). Tre Donaldson has not had to put the team on his back until now. Which Michigan team was the best shooting team? This team is up there. Nimari Burnett has finally found his place. Vlad Goldin with 36 points, and now he's a shooter! Michigan is currently favored in all but two of their remaining games. 3. Hot Takes and Men's Basketball vs Washington Starts at 54:28 Takes hotter than Mick Cronin when somebody did something wrong that's not him. Michigan's bigs get into foul trouble early but collectively pick up one foul in the 2nd half. It was a parade to the basket. Great Osobor is tough to cover for anyone who isn't Goldin. How worried should we be about free throw shooting? Michigan matched their missed two pointers with their offensive rebounds! Michigan's turnover rating on Kenpom is out of the deep blood red (it's still red, just not the worst red). They're the best offense in the country if they can just stop turning the ball over.  4. Hockey vs Notre Dame Starts at 1:19:09 The hope for this team at this point is just to make the tournament. This has been a very good defensive team, giving up three goals in 32 seconds is nearly impossible. Michigan doesn't have top-end talent and especially doesn't have back-end talent. The Big Ten is a tough conference, need to scrap for points where you can. Michigan State got really good really fast.  MUSIC: "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"—The Rolling Stones "Unforgettable"—French Montana "Giving Up"—Michigander “Across 110th Street”—JJ Johnson and his Orchestra

We go over his thoughts on several topics and that includes new defensive lineman Chris Wormley, tight end Eric Ebron, pro day schedule and much more.Speaking of Ebron, he also recently conducted a few interview so Alex and I recap all that he had to say and that includes his update on his surgically repaired ankle.Which Michigan players might the Steelers most be interested in this year in the draft? Alex and I discuss that topic on the heels of Colbert saying that he was planning on going to that school’s pro day prior to the coronavirus pandemic.Should nose/defensive tackle still be high on the Steelers draft board? Alex and I discuss.Alex and I haven’t talked much about the top running backs in this years draft class so far this offseason and that changes during today’s show.We spend a lot of time breaking down Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor and the possibility of him fitting in with the Steelers. We go over Taylor’s strengths and weaknesses and more. We also discuss a few of the other top running backs in this year;s class and go over which ones would possibly be in play with the teams second-round selection should the team go that way.Alex recently posted his updated study on what the Steelers look for in running backs in the draft and we go over his findings.Alex and I finally close out this Friday show by answering several email questions we received from listeners. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to call or email with questions or comments and please pass us along to your friends!

Michigan historian Dr. Sap and I have started a new podcast on the lore of Michigan football. And this time we were extraordinarily lucky to have as our guests the defensive captain of the 1976 Wolverines, Calvin O’Neal, and Bo Schembechler’s right hand man and greatest offensive line coach in football history (@ me!) Jerry Hanlon. Previously: 1980, 1999, 1901, 1964 THE SPONSOR: It is sponsored by HomeSure Lending. If you're buying or refinancing your home, this is the guy to talk to. He'll work on your loan directly and walk you through a process that can get really confusing really fast. I used him. Brian used him. Everyone else who used him is glad they did. -------------------------------------------- 1. GIMMICKY TOP FIVE: YOU KNOW IT’S A BO SEASON WHEN… (starts at 1:00) Seth & Sap set the stage for the Most Bo season of the Bo era. Lots of running, and a loss on natural grass to a future Big Ten West team. Nationally: Pitt had Tony Dorsett, USC, Alabama, and Ohio State were the other contenders. Oklahoma and Texas were great teams too. 2. SETTING THE STAGE (starts at 11:22) Preseason #1 to some. Bring back most of the offense, and a fair bit of the defense too, though there’s concern on the defensive line. Bo has open heart surgery in the spring. Coming off the disappointment of 1975. Run through the roster. Story of Mike Kenn: had to wait most of a week after signing day for his LOI because he was 6’6"/205—tried to make him a tight end but according to Hanlon: “It was like throwing the ball against that wall.” Story of O’Neal’s recruitment: Moeller worked him out of heading to MSU, MSU showed up with a limo. 3. THE GAMES PART I (starts at 48:19) We go through every game, from the one that Calvin O’Neal got an interception on to the many, many, many games when he did not. Sap plays us some clips from inside the locker room at halftime of the Wake Forest game. Bo gets hollered at for running up the score by putting 70 on the President’s Navy when the President visited. Fake punt takes the air out of MSU. 4. THE GAMES PART II (starts at 1:34:06) What happened against Purdue? What happened to Illinois when they came for senior day after that? What happened to all the record books after that game, and what was the record for passing touchdowns in a season before? Which Michigan player told Jerry Hanlon he guaranteed not just a win but a shoutout over Ohio State? Which quarterback did they have in Columbus anyway? Who took Ufer’s horn? 5. ROSE BOWL & WRAP (starts at 2:09:21) The players are all given hideous blue jerseys to go on the Tonight Show. Also hideous injuries during that game. Hanlon wonders what they could have done to better prepare their teams for those Rose Bowls, because they never had a good performance—Sap suggests it was getting an indoor facility so they could, you know, practice before the bowl games. We talk about where this team fits in the pantheon of teams, MVPs, most overlooked players, and how the players felt when the maize (not yellow) pants came back. -------------------------------------------- MUSIC "The Rubberband Man"—The Spinners "The Boys Are Back in Town"—Thin Lizzy "Tie Your Mother Down"—Queen “Something He Can Feel”—Aretha Franklin “Across 110th Street” THE USUAL LINKS Helpful iTunes subscribe link General podcast feed link Direct download link (right-click/save-as) What's with the theme music?
