What can homeowners learn from an internal message that was never intended for the public? In this episode, we take a deep dive into a leadership message written by Derek Cole of Simmons One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning. Originally shared with his team during the busy summer season, the message offers an inside look at a customer service philosophy centered on empathy, accountability, and treating every home as if it belonged to family. We explore why communication often matters as much as technical expertise, how companies can create trust even when they can't control supply chain delays or backordered parts, and what separates businesses that simply complete transactions from those that build lasting relationships.Whether you work in the home service industry, lead a team, or simply want to understand what great customer service looks like from the inside, this conversation examines the principles behind creating memorable customer experiences and a culture that strives to put people before problems.
The weekend was hot! But we're not just seeing extreme heat here. This summer has brought unprecedented heat waves across parts of the United States, Asia and Europe. André Picard, health reporter and columnist with The Globe and Mail, joins Tamara to make the case for better protecting renters from extreme heat.

These days, with a bit of summer heat here in Europe, a lot of Americans are talking about air conditioning. Is it true that Europeans don't use aircon? Is it because we're all tree-hugging environmentalists, or could it possibly be for some other reason? I take these questions seriously, and try to answer them. This Independence weekend was one of the hottest the East Coast has seen in a long time. Additionally it was a bad time for people to have issues with their Air Conditioning. Lewis had some of such issues with his building and made for a great excuse to be a bit lazy about going out and doing anything. Which is unfortunate because the city's impressive fireworks are always fun and because it was our 250th, NYC also hosting a handful of old time ships in its various Harbors. Still too hot unfortunately. Lewis did manage to a round of golf in, was that a good idea? You'll have to listen to find out. _________________ This episode is sponsored by FACTOR. As summers get hotter, more and more people are turning to air conditioning to cool down buildings and vehicles. But air conditioning has some drawbacks, such as high energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and indoor air pollution. Air conditioning can also make us less tolerant of heat. Major decisions from the Supreme Court, including birthright citizenship. Oil prices are falling; Gov. Hobbs blames Biggs for bad economy and Europeans have no air conditioning. Plus, one member of the Conservative Circus takes a trip to Bucees!
As a majority of the nation braces for major heat impacts leading into the 4th of July weekend, AP's Lisa Dwyer reports on ways to stay safe.
The U.K. is experiencing a record heat wave, and the country is split between some citizens questioning the ethics of using air conditioning and others resorting to storming storefronts to get portable air conditioners for their homes. But throughout the U.K., police are showing up at homes suspected of using too much AC, and some schools are being stripped of AC units. Glenn also reacts to the recent attacks on government officials that occurred throughout the weekend, which proves that religious radicals will stop at nothing and destroy everybody standing in their way. Lara Trump, host of “My View, with Lara Trump,” joins to discuss immigration in America and how President Trump's own immigration story shaped his policy. Glenn reacts to a recent SCOTUS decision that affirmed Mississippi's rights to count ballots after Election Day. Glenn shows off his latest historical artifact that tells the perfect story to celebrate America's 250th birthday. Joe Erwin, director, producer, and co-screenwriter of “Young Washington,” joins to discuss the film and why it's critical to support it. Is this the heatwave that finally changes French minds on air conditioning? Not for Environment Minister Monique Barbut. She said she was "horrified" by the idea of it becoming widespread. The rest of the world looked on perplexed as France suffered a brutal week, particularly for schools, hospitals and care homes. Long suspicious of it, French people are slowly adopting A/C, but it remains politically controversial and difficult to install in historic towns and cities. Technology Editor Peter O'Brien pours cold water on what he says is a needlessly hot topic in France.
The Left has continued its latest obsession: criticizing Trump's efforts to clean up the algae in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Glenn reacts to New York City Democrat Mayor Zohran Mamdani's complaint about a recent SCOTUS decision on immigration. Why does the Left think temporary status for immigrants means forever? Glenn also reacts to a recent Trump Truth Social post regarding communism in America. Glenn discusses the recent SCOTUS win that shot down a Hawaii anti-gun law as unconstitutional. Some states are canceling July 4th celebrations, but are they due to anti-American sentiment or to actual preventive measures? Glenn explains why he's not losing his mind. Second time in a row the college coach the NBA took was Michigan's. This is not the Cavs; Dallas is a good gig. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. The Future of Michigan Basketball Starts at 19:04 They're promoting Mike Boynton to interim head coach, with a possibility of permanence. Greater that 50% chance he's the HC without the interim title, but might execute a search. Five days after they announce a hire the portal is open for Michigan alone, which is probably what scared them into this now. McKenney is back, probably Cadeau back, direction of things is a battle to hold onto the transfer bigs. Boynton: got tagged by the FBI thing, can see his tenure as not successful, or successful for the Minnesota of the Big 12. He has a trademark, which is defense: five of six years with a top-20 unit. Still relatively young, can recruit. Program: "What option do we have?" UNNNNNGGGGGHHHHHH. Actual option: Josh Schertz! Trademark is twos, built a real roster there, is Dusty's best coaching buddy. Don't care as much about roster continuity (Brian Ellerbe, Sherrone Moore) because the players won't be around long. Also if you poach a coach you have access to another team's roster and coaching staff, whereas right now Michigan and the Mavs are competing for Michigan staff and Michigan and the world are competing for Michigan's players. Other names to look at: Niko Medved was our next pick two years ago, did as well as possible with Minnesota last year. Where is Michigan Basketball in program rankings? Would Purdue swap with us? Purdue built their fanbase over years of having a program, just like Michigan hockey. 3. The Warde Talk Starts at 53:17 What are you supposed to do with a guy who alternates between asleep-at-the-wheel scandals and national championships? Push back against Brian's assertion that people "don't want to work for him" because these are all individual situations. He's not a bad guy, but he's also not a guy who *does* things, unless that's milking the fanbase or turning Michigan Stadium into an F1 race of ads. His oeuvre is not doing anything, because that worked with Harbaugh in 2020, and now that's a modus operandi. Talking ADs history since Canham. Push back against Brian's lionizing of Canham: he was a visionary, but his record also includes Dr. Anderson and trying to prevent/undermine Title IX. We end up preferring Bill Martin of all our lifetime ADs—he built the boxes to prevent ads in the stadium. Don't think missing out on Les Miles was a loss. Brian's Warde assessment: He typed "how to AD" into ChatGPT. Does losing Dusty May like this change your opinion on Warde Manuel? No. But it's weird that he keeps surviving (no president to fire him). 4. 2027 Football Recruiting Starts at 1:20:46 Doesn't look any different from a Harbaugh class at this point. If you're good at scouting and developing you're fine. OL class is small but Lipsey stacks another elite tackle and they had to fend off ND for Louis Esposito, Rouleau is a Frey-type. Xavier Muhammad is a very good DT, Tavares Harrington a find at CB, and they held onto some important guys in-state in a good Michigan year. LB recruiting is still underfunded, Brian is fine with that because it's very a "what's in your head" position with no consensus on what schools want. State of the recruiting industry: Paramount got bought and 247 is getting raided as incompetent ownership sets in. On3 is more reactive to scouting this cycle, and almost universally rate M commits higher. White whales: #1 is CB Josh Dobson, Seth Tillman would be a big, big deal because DTs are hard to come by, Monsanna Torbert would be a big win over Ohio State. Lincoln Mageo would be a good OL to finish with. Would like to have more TEs coming in. 5. World Cup Starts at 1:50:04 Takes hotter than Dusty May's agent. Count how many times Brian calls USA "Michigan." Are the Americans the most pleased with their performance in Group Phase (2nd to Canadians). Freeman (son of Antonio) is very reliable defensively, main thing is you can put Dest at wing. Sauciest player in US history? McKenzie is everywhere, runs into the box from deep were especially effective vs Paraguay. Pulisic injury: not going to play him in the useless Turkey game, should be fine. Tim Ream has been trying to play soccer for us forever, always been the best guy on the ball. Decent draw, should be favored (when they make the field) for a couple of rounds. Success point is get to the quarters; they can go into a game against a world power and expect to compete, not win, and not win three in a row. Four years ago they were too young. Don't mind the 48-team format; it saps a lot of tension out of the Group Stage when three teams advance, but a lot of "small teams" have battled. Brazil is still working back to being BRAZIL. Germany is Ohio State but not a peak year Ohio State. France is super talented. Alex: If you play Bosnia and Herzegovina you play two countries at once. Seth: Actually it's more like seven point eight. Last year he sold $800,000 in residential plumbing — and installed every job himself. This is his exact playbook. Payton Sword is a plumbing technician at Steve Huff Plumbing, Heating & Air in Kingsport, Tennessee — and a 4x Crown Champion at CertainPath, the program's top sales tier. Last year he sold roughly $800,000 in residential plumbing. No sales/install split, no handing the job off: every technician at Steve Huff sells the work and does the work. Payton was hired at 19 — at the same shop his dad worked for back in 1996. The company put him through 15 months of ride-alongs, trainings, and schools before he ever got his own truck. Today the shop's 12 plumbing technicians train four days every month: full service-call roleplays with homeowner personalities, DISC profiles, and a "switch method" that swaps techs mid-roleplay to keep everyone sharp. In this episode, Payton walks Bob Houchin through his entire service call, start to finish — from the drive-time research to the same-day install. In this conversation, you'll discover: • The $800K reveal — and why he installs every job he sells • The at-the-door credibility statement he delivers on every single call • Why he never asks permission to run the whole-house safety inspection — "it's a value creator" • Builder-grade vs. professional fixtures — and the restaurant question that sells Totos • The four-option presentation with everything on the top option • Present the top option, ask for the business — then go silent • "Is it only the money?" — his answer to "I should get another bid" • The authority close: "What were you expecting to spend today?" • Why the shop trains four days a month — and why it produces Crown Champions Whether you run a plumbing company, manage a service team, or you're a tech chasing Crown Champion numbers — Payton's process is a masterclass in trust-first, education-driven selling.
