Welcome to Episode 15 of Series 2 where we dive into what it means to be a woman. We talk about why the patriarchal ideas of femininity are both inaccurate and exclusionary, how gender non-conformity is both normal and ancient across global communities and discuss the fundamental misogyny of Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminism/Feminists (TERFs). We break down the danger posed to the transgender community by "biology" based anti-trans rhetoric and speak about why thinking of gender on scales instead of a spectrum is more accurate for some. We close out the episode with our core principles: If you identify as a woman, you are one; we will endeavour in every way to create as inclusive a space as possible; we will get things wrong sometimes and though you don't owe us an education, we hugely appreciate when you share your lived experience with us so we can learn from you. - Find PBS' map of Gender Diverse Cultures here.- Suzannah Weiss' February 2018 article for Teen Vogue entitled "9 Things People Get Wrong About Being Non-Binary" has been a valuable educational resource for us, we hope you'll read and share it.- Sam Killerman's piece entitled "Why Think of Gender on Scales Instead of a Spectrum?" has helped us conceptualise gender differently and, we hope, more accurately.- We used Katelyn Burn's September 2019 article for Vox entitled "TERFs: The Rise of Anti-Trans “Radical” Feminists, Explained" during our discussion about Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists/Feminism, the story of Aimee Stephens' and Ann Hopkins' ground-breaking Supreme Court cases.- Please check out our "Feminism 101" suggested reading list here if you're at a loose end for a great read from an Feminist author.- Find out more about the amazing artists, Nubefy, behind the graphics we use (though not on this episode) here

In a way, my entire business was built on live events. As you can imagine, for somebody in the music industry, live events are extremely important to selling music, building connection with fans, getting the word out about an artist. I've produced around 2000 live events, not only for others, but for myself as well. Why? Think about this – a "live event" is basically an advertisement for what you do. But unlike a traditional advertisement, people pay you to watch it, it's interactive, and it's experienced with friends. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and not being able to safely get a lot of people in the same room together, the live event business isn't as easy as it was. But the good news is, because there are fewer live events happening right now and fewer live events being planned for the future, it's a great time to jump into the live event business. Let me be clear. You need to be safe. You need to take care of yourself and take care of the people you do business with. But this is possible, even in the current "pandemic" climate. For example, you could do an online event. Or you could start working on a live event that will happen after we're done with the current COVID-19 situation and are able to safely get in the same room. On this episode, I talk with Amy Broghamer about her first live event (done before the COVID-19 pandemic), how she filled the room, and what she's going to be doing with live events in the future. Because we haven't been able to safely be in the same room for the last few months, people are ready to do that...when it's safe. And if you want to be ready to take advantage of that opportunity, you want to listen to this episode. In This Episode: Your first live event - what you need to know! Standing out in a crowded marketplace Longterm relationships with customers High-end customers who pay more money for the "same" service – how to charge more than your competition Getting through hard times in your industry Filling live events (including online events) What people are really buying when they do business with you The advantages of a small event How important is food at an event? We like to think that we have come so far as a global society, but there is still so much injustice, hate, and racism out there. In the last few years, hate crimes have been on the rise. White supremacists have been emboldened. Anti-immigrant rhetoric has intensified. We condemn these awful examples of prejudice and bias and hate, but systemic racism is something different. It is less about violence or burning crosses than it is about everyday decisions made by people who may not even think of themselves as racist. As sociologist Eduardo Bonilla-Silva has said, "The main problem nowadays is not the folks with the hoods, but the folks dressed in suits." Systemic racism persists in our schools, offices, court system, police departments, and elsewhere. Why? Think about it: when white people occupy most positions of decision-making power, people of color have a difficult time getting a fair shake, let alone getting ahead. As a white European straight male, I have never had to experience any of the prejudice many of my Black, Asian, and Hispanic friends face daily. For me and everyone else like me, it has taken the death of another innocent man and global protests for us to really reflect on these issues. To better understand the racism, prejudice, and hate millions of people in the U.S. and around the world face every day, I invited my friend Kevin Taylor to come on the podcast to talk about his personal experiences. We discuss Black Lives Matter, how you can show support for the movement, and our thoughts on people protesting for “Blue Lives Matter.” Kevin also shares some personal stories and examples of times he has been affected by systemic racism, his deeply rooted fear of being pulled over by the police, and what it is like growing up knowing that the cards are stacked against you.LinksKevin TaylorInstagram @kev_taylor1Please Watch: Dave Chappelle’s 8:46www.blacklivesmatter.comDonateAdam Gavinwww.adamgavin.comInstagram @adamgavinhello@adamgavin.comMillennialismApple Podcasts |Spotify | Google Podcasts| Download
Sermon Recording Sermon OutlineSpeaker: Rev. Charles DrewSermon Series: Faith, Hope & LoveJohn 1:1-18 (ESV) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. 9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.Questions for ReflectionWhen John writes, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us," he means that Jesus makes the eternal God vivid in terms we can understand. Jesus is not, in other words, "God 2.0"; he is the God who has always been. What is new is that God has now been "translated" into the accessible language of our experience. And what we discover in this new translation is a God who is full of surprises: he loves wedding parties and good wine (John 2); he hates it when we use religion to make money (also John 2); he willingly engages anyone-- whether the powerful and prestigious (like Nicodemus-- John 3) or the weak and morally compromised (the Samaritan woman-- John 4); he weeps with people over the death of those they love (John 11); he rules by serving people (John 13), and he loves to restore and put to noble use those who have failed him (John 21). Which of these discoveries is especially surprising to you? Why?Think about the surprising fact that God has for millennia been ruling us by serving us. What guidance does this offer us as we try to live out our faith in our politically polarized time? How might it help us manage a discussion about Mr. Trump's impeachment, or guns in America, or climate change, with family and friends who disagree with us?

In the show, we will look at how safe it is to travel with your gadgets on a business trip or for pleasure? Also, BlackBerry has a solution to visual hacking and we will talk about a technology that is being developed to charge your phone by using your friend’s phone. All this today, on WRLWND Radio. Tips for travelling with gadgets Our gadgets have become so integrated into our lives that we take them with us everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Even when we are travelling for work or even taking that vacation. There is an inherent risk in taking our corporate and personal information with us when we travel. In this part of the show, I would like to offer you a few tips to reduce this risk and what we need to take into consideration when we travel with our devices. First, consider whether you actually need to take a device with you, of course, if your boss is expecting you to take your work phone with you abroad, then there is no way out, but if not, then you should leave your employer's devices at home. Why? Think about the impact if that device is - lost or stolen – the data that will be exposed can have some serious ramifications to your company. Next consider if your laptop, phone, tablet, and even USB drives are encrypted? Are you using strong passwords? Is all your data backed up? Travellers should also minimise the potential risk of data exposure and loss of information. The way to do this don’t take too much information with you - it’s better to delete unnecessary the files or save to your home computer or external drive before going on that trip. For International travel there are a few additional considerations: The Border agencies in many countries, including Canada and the United States, have the right to examine and even make copies of electronic information. If you refuse to hand over passwords you can be in a lot of hot water, like having your devices seized, and being denied entry into foreign countries. Also, border officials can open an app on a phone or tablet when connected to a network which will not only grant them access to the data on your device but also remote data like on your cloud storage accounts – for example - Dropbox or One drive. So this is not limited to data stored on your device, but data on a remote server could be accessed as well. If you have sensitive data – like from work then it would be advisable to leave your device at home or consider purchasing another for travel. If that is not an option you can go with, then you can log out of all accounts on your device and then delete the applications that use them. Say for example you've logged out Facebook, Dropbox, or Google Mail app and leave it on your phone without deleting them, then this may lead to additional questions or even requests for your login credentials. So if you are going this route, remember to delete the apps. A more extreme option is to back-up the mobile device, reset it to factory defaults prior to travel, and restore it at the destination. If you want to go this far out to stay safe this is a good option as well. Also, don’t leave electronics unattended in hotel rooms. Most hotels offer in-room safes; some are reasonably secure, while others are not. So it is up to you if you want to take you laptop with you to the gym or the restaurant. The last thing to consider is locking bags that can help you protect your electronic devices. If you are interested in this please go to: http://itincanadaonline.ca/index.php/columnists/eric-jacksch/2064-traveling-with-tech In the end, when travelling with gadgets it all comes back down to good sound judgement, and always being vigilant. That I would say are the best suggestions for keeping personal data safe when travelling. Privacy Shade app Have you ever been in public and wondered if the person looking over your shoulder when you were entering your password was able to see it? This is considered visual hacking. Last year, I was at HP Discover in Boston and one of the speakers talked about visual hacking. Visual hacking is when other can view your device’s screen without your permission. So, say you are at your favourite coffee shop, you pull your smartphone or laptop and started to check your emails or social media accounts, now if someone is sitting behind you or to your left or right at an angle where they can see your screen, they are conducting a visual hack, they are acquiring information from your device. To avoid exposing your private information BlackBerry has recently released an app called Privacy Shade. Privacy shade allows you to view your phone messages in private, even in public places such as trains, bus stops, and restaurants. This app is only available to BlackBerry’s lineup of Android smartphones. So, if you have a BlackBerry Android phone like the Priv or DTEC then you can get this app from Google Play Store. What the app does is to block parts of your phone screen – or obscuring the parts you are not viewing or using while still allowing you to interact with the obscured parts. By allowing users to adjust the transparency of the filter to suit the surroundings like outside or even indoors. If you have a BlackBerry Android device then you can use Privacy Shade in four ways: If you are using Android OS 7.0 Nougat or higher, you can add BlackBerry Privacy Shade to your Quick Settings. If you are using a BlackBerry device with a Convenience Key, you can assign BlackBerry Privacy Shade to the Convenience Key. If you are using a BlackBerry device that supports Swipe Shortcuts, you make BlackBerry Privacy Shade one of your shortcuts. You can also toggle BlackBerry Privacy Shade on or off via an optional dedicated notification in the notification tray. That’s the update on Privacy shade, if you are a BlackBerry fan there are few other upgrades that BlackBerry is working on that might excite you: Hub Additional Hub Integrations: Support for Kik and Telegram Email Auto CC / BCC Setting: Users can now enable auto cc: or bcc: when sending a message. This setting can be applied to individual accounts. Android Wear Notifications (beta): Hub+ notifications and the ability to read and delete Hub items via Android Wear devices (i.e. smartwatches) Dual SIM support: Hub will support phones with dual SIMs. You can switch between them just like you would with multiple emails. Contacts Contact Linking and Cleanup: Improved support for finding and linking of duplicate contacts. DTEK OS Integrity Check: Users will now receive a notification if an OS Integrity issue has been detected. If you are concerned about someone looking at your smartphone screen when you are in the public, then Privacy Shade is a good app to use. Hopefully, BlackBerry will make this available to all Android phones and even their own BlackBerry operating system. Phone to Phone charging Wireless charging is the new buzz words for phones. Samsung and Apple are working on bringing wireless charging to their upcoming smartphones but as they are doing this Sony is working on a really super new technology that will bring us a phone to phone charging. What this means is your friend can change his phone off of yours. Sony recently filed a recently patent application, for power charging and data exchange between various consumer electronics like smartphones, computers and other smart devices. The technology that will be used for this will rely on “antenna systems” configured for both wireless data and power transfers, accompanied by a handy user interface that simplifies the process of connecting devices. In addition to selecting between power and data transfers, the interface will also make it easier to choose between various wireless exchange-enabled devices in your vicinity. As with patents, we don’t know how soon the technology will become available but it is a good sign to see that more and more the tech companies are looking at ways of bringing us the technology to make our tech engrained lives easier.
Stephen is the CEO of Predictive ROI and the host of the Onward Nation podcast. He is the author of two bestselling books, speaker, trainer, and his digital marketing insights have been featured in SUCCESS, Entrepreneur, The Washington Post, Forbes, Inc. Magazine, and other media. Good Morning Onward Nation — I’m Stephen Woessner — Happy New Year and welcome to this week’s solocast. And today’s episode also happens to be Episode 400 — so before we dive into the sales pipeline building toolbox that I want to share with you — first — I need to offer up a very big thank you, Onward Nation. If someone would have told me back on June 15, 2015 that we were about to launch a podcast that would soar to the top of iTunes New & Noteworthy, that our email list would grow to over 20,000 people, that we would receive feedback every day from business owners who we have impacted in a positive way, that our message would now reach 105 countries around the world…and that all of the knowledge we collected in the last 18-months would turn into a book that a major publisher would want to buy and then publish…there is no way I would have believed that person. In fact, I might have run the other way. And yet, what I just shared with you is exactly what happened. And it happened because of you, Onward Nation. Because you downloaded episodes and then let us know how we could make them better. You emailed me, you hit us up on Twitter, you shared your thoughts on Facebook — and my team and I listened. We made adjustments and then you offered even more advice. So we pivoted again. And again. And then again. And we will continue to pivot and adjust because our goal is to deliver as much value to you, Onward Nation as we possibly can. Please continue to let us know what you think of Onward Nation…thumbs up or thumbs down. We want to get better — and our first 400 episodes — are just the beginning. So thank you for being here — and please know — how much you downloading, and listening to our episodes, and sharing your feedback means to me and my team. Thank you, Onward Nation. Now… Let’s continue the momentum that we started during last week’s solocast…Episode 396 that I entitled, “Get Your Hands Dirty” and we focused on two main lessons: 1) why and how you should jump into the trenches with your team — and the impact you getting your hands dirty — will have on your team And… 2) how to create your client avatar so you and your team focus your valuable time and attention toward the right customers. And as I walked you through the practical and tactical steps last week — the “in the trenches process” that you need in order to create your client avatar — I also made you a promise. I promised that last week’s solocast would be the first in a series of four tactical lessons you take and apply in order to fill your sales pipeline. So today’s solocast is my next step in fulfilling my promise. Today’s lesson is going to tactical and provide you with another opportunity to get your hands dirty working alongside your team. However, I am also going to push you to think differently before you dig into the tools. I am going to do that so you can be sure to get your mindset right — to get your head right — so you are ready to unleash your full potential. If you work through the client avatar exercise from last week without getting your mindset right — you may focus on clients who don’t push you — who will not challenge you to grow — you may focus on the ones who you think are safe — prospects who are lower hanging fruit — decision makers who operate at lower levels in the organization instead of the C-suite. Run from those thoughts, Onward Nation. I believe it was Albert Einstein who said, “The same thinking that got you and your business to your current level – is not the same thinking that is going to get you to where you want to go.” So you must push yourself to be open to the ideas I share with you – even if I challenge you – even if I make you feel uncomfortable from time-to-time – please know – that’s what a good mentor does – they help you see the path you need to take. For example…I can almost certainly guarantee that as you and I move our way through the lessons over the next several weeks…you may begin to think of challenges you expect to encounter if you were to implement what you learn. You may think to yourself… “That would never work in my industry.” “I can work on that when I have more time.” “I would put that into practice if only my team were up to the challenge.” “My sales have slumped because I have a couple of really tough competitors – or – our pricing is too high.” I am here to tell you – as a good mentor would – your key challenge – your key obstacle to having a vibrant, full sales pipeline heading into 2017 – with a steady stream of qualified prospects is not being blocked by any of these. Okay, so then what is blocking you from having a full sales pipeline? It’s you, Onward Nation! Yes, you. But how could I say such a thing? Please…just hear me out. We as business owners…we fall victim each day by asking ourselves really horrible questions like… “Am I good enough?” “Am I smart enough?” “Oh, that company over there would never want to do business with us because we are too small!” We tend to set ourselves up for failure before we ever start. We tell ourselves we can’t do something. The way we speak to ourselves — in our own heads — can be truly cruel at times. Instead…as you are building your client avatar…you need to get your mindset right…to eliminate the word “Can’t” from your vocabulary. Why do you need to eliminate this word – and these thoughts? Because this word is the root of the Imposter Syndrome – and if you don’t take aggressive action – the word will build a stronghold in your mind…and the Imposter Syndrome will keep you as its victim. The Imposter Syndrome is your one and only barrier to success – and it will keep your sales pipeline empty if you let it. Onward Nation — you are good enough – you are worthy of more – you have worked hard! Don’t let the Syndrome become a roadblock to your next level. In fact, next time you catch yourself asking yourself road-blocking questions…I want to you to apply a little success secret to push past the blockade. Here it is… “Decide to win – before – you ever start.” And that’s a powerful lesson I learned from Joanna Riley during Episode 324. She went from zero to being the largest shareholder in her company now worth over $800 million. Jo has accomplished much – but – it is because she learned at the age of 14 what it took to believe in herself – and that winning was as much about performance as it was deciding to win at the outset. I believe in you, Onward Nation – you are far more capable, amazing, awesome, wonderful, and beautiful than you give yourself credit for. And now I want to repeat the two warnings from last week because they still apply for today’s lesson. As we move through the steps…you may catch yourself saying… “Oh, I already know that…” If you catch yourself saying that – take a moment – and instead ask yourself – “But have I mastered it?” And then take it deeper by asking yourself, “Can I leverage it even greater that what I am currently doing?” Deal? Okay, so let’s jump in. The primary tool we will focus on today is LinkedIn. Why? Because LinkedIn is the platform where business-to-business deals get done – and – get done quickly. Plus, there are over 433 million business people on the planet who use LinkedIn. So it is highly likely that your top prospects are there – using LinkedIn – every day. And you should be, too, Onward Nation. LinkedIn members also may represent the right demographic – the right economic earning potential – that fits your ideal prospect or client avatar. So let’s begin…and in total…I am going to share tactical steps — or tools — you can use to find your client avatar in LinkedIn, build your Dream 50 list, expand your number of connections, and then reach out to your Dream 50 to generate leads to fill your sales pipeline. Step 1: Boost your LinkedIn profile. You need to do this by giving it a serious, deeply critical look. Does it include a deep summary description? Have you linked videos from your YouTube account? Do you have your experience section properly built out? And if the answer is “no” to any of these — you need to make immediate adjustments. Why? Think of your profile as your landing page within LNKD. If it’s not up to par — then prospects will bounce off your page and move on with their day. Step 2: Participate in LinkedIn’s Pulse publishing platform by sharing your long-form content at least once per week. Publishing to LNKD gives you the opportunity to share your expertise and deliver value to your connections – and – to boost credibility on the platform. Go to my LNKD profile for tangible examples that you can dissect and get some ideas. Step 3: expand your LNKD connections I encourage you to export your existing email list, import it into LinkedIn, and send connection requests. But why? Because with each new LNKD connection, your network of 1st degree, 2nd degree, and 3rd degree connections expands. This will give your team a larger network to search within for high-value prospects — your client avatar. For example, I have over 4,000 1st degree connections on LinkedIn, which equates to a lead gen network of approximately 17 million people for business development team here at Predictive ROI, my content marketing and lead gen agency. By expanding your connections, your will be able to “see” as many high-value prospects within LNKD as possible. Step 4: expand your email list! Now you should reverse the process from Step 3 and export your list of LNKD connections — and then — import the email addresses back into your email list. LinkedIn is the only social media platform that allows you to export the email addresses of your connections. This rinse and repeat cross-pollination will ensure yours prospects receive future content via multiple channels. Step 5: build your Dream 50 list Here is where you will take the details you identified regarding your client avatar using the recipe I shared with you in Episode 396 — and then apply it — to build your Dream 50 list using LinkedIn’s Advanced Lead Builder tool. The Advanced Lead Builder gives you the opportunity to conduct custom searches based on keywords, titles, industry, years of experience, employee size, geographic proximity to a zip code, and a variety of other variables. But…just a heads up…LNKD recently announced their decision eliminate a number of the searching options because not enough members were using them. Ugh. So we will have to wait and see what the revised version of Advanced Lead Builder will look like — I will keep you posted. Once you have your Dream 50 list compiled — you will be ready for Step 6, which is sending your InMail messages. InMail is kind of like LNKD’s version of email — except it is only available to premium members — you can only send 30 InMail messages per month without buying more credits — credits cost $10 each — and — the process cannot be automated…each InMail is sent to each recipient manually…one at a time. Yes, I know — it is time consuming…but…that is also why we often see response rates of 10-20 percent…because there is very little spam via InMail. You can go to Episode 298 of Onward Nation for our complete InMail template so you can swipe it and then customize the content for your business. Now, that covers some of the core LinkedIn ingredients but there is another success secret I learned from Jeffrey Hayzlett in Episode 121 that I want to share with you right now. And that is – to Crawl – Walk – Then Run. Yes, it is going to take you time to perfect this recipe. My team and I have sent thousands and thousands and thousands of InMail messages within the last 24-months alone. Did it take us time to develop the expertise that we now have? Of course it did. So do as Jeffrey says…Crawl…Walk…and then Run. And soon…you too will have mastered LinkedIn and your pipeline will be full. So with that…I want to thank you again for taking the time to be here with me today. It is an honor to have you here — thank you for tuning in — I am delighted you chose this episode to be what you listen to, study, and take with you on your morning run, or maybe Onward Nation has become part of your daily commute, or in some other way has become part of your morning routine. However our daily podcast fits into your daily routine — I want you to know how much I appreciate you sharing some of your invaluable 86,400 seconds you have in your day with me and the strategies we learn and share each day from today’s top business owners. And please continue to let me know what you think of Onward Nation…good or bad…I always want your feedback. My direct email address is stephen@onwardnation.com — and yes — that is my actual Inbox. No fancy filters or filing system and I read and reply to every single email. So please let me know how you think we are doing. I look forward to hearing from you. We will be back tomorrow with an incredible interview with Kyle Reyes — where we focus on the power of not losing your identity as a business owner — and how your identity can, and should, become the foundation of your brand. Kyle is rock solid awesome. You will not want to miss it, Onward Nation! Until then, onward with gusto!

Are you, at some level, squeamish about the idea of self promotion and building your audience? I consistently promote making connections and building your list as job #1 for the project creator. Getting press and connecting with influencers who could help you promote your project to their audiences is the best way to build a list. Why? Think about it. What do they have that you don’t? An audience. But influencers especially, don't want to be spammed. Top people get dozens of awkward requests every day from people who just don't “get it”. And those requests get ignored. You have to know the right way to approach influencers or they will delete your email, and you will never get their endorsement... Even if your project would genuinely help their audience. In this episode, we speak with one of the best at connecting deeply with experts, Andrew Warner, founder of Mixergy.com. Andrew had some street cred before launching Mixergy.com. He cofounded Bradford & Reed, a greeting card company that was grossing $38.5M per year. After selling the company, Andrew went on to found Mixergy.com. “I created Mixergy to help ambitious people who love business as much as I do learn from a mix of experienced mentors. I do that through interviews where founders tell their stories and courses where they teach a solution to issues that can cripple founders.” Andrew has made connecting with influencers like Tim Ferriss, Gary Vaynerchuk, and over 1300 other world-class entrepreneurs into a multi-million dollar a year business. This episode is filled with a number of dynamite tactics that will help you genuinely connect with influencers and make them want to promote your campaign. But simply following the step by step procedures outlined won't get you very far. Listen closely to how Andrew talks about his deep sense of curiosity and commitment to his mission, and how this will help you build genuine relationships. Your outreach strategy should be built on a foundation of integrity, mutual benefit (as opposed to a “what can I get” attitude), and commitment to your mission. If you do this, you’ll be able to take advantage of the #1 audience building hack: Leveraging someone else’s audience to build your own. A world without disease, starvation, violence, and suffering is the ultimate destination of humanity. Getting there will require voters to base their decisions on statistical cost-benefit analyses instead of irrational emotions. The power of numbers can make utopia a reality.
