No one demanded it but we're here nonetheless to celebrate a momentous occasion: the 41st anniversary of the original broadcast date (June 23, 1983) of the absolutely bonkers failed TV pilot Wishman!  When you hear the name Wishman, do you immediately think of a wish-granting genie? We did too, but oh how we were wrong. Instead we are presented with a bizarre Mac & Me-esque creature, with big eyes and gurgling vocals, who can control electricity when the plot dictates it. He's also a big pervert who likes spying on women in the shower and watching his adopted parents makeout.  We also get early hacking and A.I., a busy dad who doesn't appreciate his son's skateboarding skills, and the beautiful sight of a limp doll body being shoved in a giant sack of dog food.  And thanks to the generosity of Eternal Family (a site that we may have dreamed up) you too can enjoy this very misguided episode of television for free right now.  If you like the show, give us a rating on Apple Podcasts. Smut and Django are at the Cannes Film Festival (technically the Marche - Market) to meet with distributors and sign deals. Smut Peddler and Django Nudo cover two big film topics for the price of one, while also cursing Roku for still not having sorted out the missing Cultpix films. First up is Daimajin, the giant demon god stone statue that comes alive and wrecks destruction on the unjust. Daiei produced no less than three Daimajin films in the span of one year (1966): "Daimajin", "The Return of Daimajin" and "Daimajin Striked Again". They are firmly in the Kaiju tradition and trace their roots to an unrealized sequel to the original Gamera, which will also be shown on Cultpix later this spring. They also have a kinship to the North Korean "Pulgasari" (1985). The plot of the first two are fairly identical, with Daimejin saving peasants from an evil feudal lord, but the third has an added kids-on-a-quest sub-plot that elevates it. Interestingly this trilogy was made the same year as several of the films from Doris Wishman's 'Moonlight' period, that is the second season of her films on Cultpix. This is when the maverick cult director moved from the nudie-cuties of the early 60s to roughies, resulting in darker films, but still with tell-tale Wishman touches, like cut-aways to shoes and lamps.  These hard-nosed, sex-focused noirs stand tall as some of her greatest, most perverted work. AGFA calls them “triumphant DIY treasures”. We are in debt to AGFA, Something Weird Video and Vinegar Syndrome for these remarkable films being available to share with you.Included are "The Sex Perils of Paulette" (1965), a twist on the The Perils of Pauline films in Wishman's first 'roughie'; adultery and betrayal in "My Brother's Wife" (1966), with Wishman's signature downbeat conclusion; the housewife-on-the-run-forced-into-prostitution-classic "Bad Girls Go to Hell" (1965), considered to be   “Wishman's formula perfected,"; the non-cannibal "A Taste of Flesh" (1967), with lesbians and political assassination attempts; a rare male lead in the form of a gigolo in "Too Much, Too Often" (1968); a respectable middle class woman is forced into prostitution in "Another Day, Another Man" (1966) after her husband falls ill; super natural powers over a woman in "Indecent Desires" (1968) leads her to question her sanity. There is also the two Greek film re-edit oddities "The Hot Month of August" (1966) and "Passion Fever" (1969), featuring new dialogue and insert soft-core shots of drama films bought form Greece.  We have a Spotify playlist that is full of musical gems and more from the Doris Wishman films.

Directed by Samantha Wishman and Christina Thomas, FREE PUPPIES! tells the story of the innumerable volunteers—most often women—who work tirelessly to save the lives of animals on a daily basis in the American South. Following rescuers Monda Wooten, Ann Brown and Ruth Smith, the film identifies their incredible efforts to begin a spay-and-neuter program and rescue many other dogs from euthanasia in an effort to help them find a loving home that will care for them. She would have turned 110 this year, and it's 20 years since her passing.No one will ever make movies like Doris Wishman. She is one of the most prolific women filmmakers in the history of American cinema, a writer-director-editor who created collisions between surrealism and exploitation that feel like they materialized from an alternate universe.Thanks to Cultpix cooperation with rights holder Jimmy Maslon, and the diligent work of Something Weird Video, AGFA (American Genre Film Archive) and Vinegar Syndrome, we are able to join the celebration, with the first of three theme weeks with a total of no less than 24 newly restored films, starting off with The Twilight Years – a collection of sleazy flicks from the 1970's, that highlights the queen of sexploitation's last era of filmmaking. Sam Reti is a guitarist, teacher and the Founder of Muzie.Live. Sam was born in Manchester, England and raised in North Andover, Massachusetts. He picked up the guitar when he was twelve and never set it down again. He definitely inherited his dad's love of music. Together they had father and son jam sessions every day after school. He's sharing the most important life lesson he learned as a child and how giving back should be a constant practice for all. What we're talking aboutFrank Shankwitz's Story: From Campground Living As A Child To Granting Wishes The Story Of How Chris Got His Wings Wish Man: The Creation Of The Make A Wish Foundation Frank Shankwitz's Story: From Campground Living As A Child To Granting WishesAt the age of 5, Frank was kidnapped by his mother and moved to a campground for 5 years, until they made their way to Arizona. It was at their new home in Arizona that Frank met Juan who was a father figure to him and instilled the important life lessons of turning negatives into positives and the importance of giving back to others, even if you can't give with money. Frank went on to serve in the US Air Force and later became an Arizona state trooper. It was while on the job that Frank was hit by a drunk driver and pronounced dead at the scene…until a passing-by nurse performed CPR on him for 45 minutes. It was then that he knew God spared his life for a reason and it was up to him to discover what that reason was. The Story Of How Chris Got His WingsIn April of 1980, Frank received a dispatch call that he was to meet a helicopter carrying a 7 year old boy named Chris who had terminal leukemia. Chris was a big fan of the TV series CHiPS and wanted nothing more than to be a motorcycle officer like Ponch and Jon. Frank was his dream come true. Frank made it his mission to ensure Chris received a custom made uniform and upon delivery, Chris noticed the wings Frank wore, as every officer does. Chris said he wished he could have the same wings and it was that moment in which Frank realized the importance of a child's wish. Chris received his wings along with wings that carried him to heaven. It was on Frank's trip home that he realized that he wanted to make the wishes of more children come true. Wish Man: The Creation Of The Make A Wish FoundationFrank decided he wanted to find out what it takes to create a non-profit organization and since computers had yet to be available, he researched everything he could at the library. Frank enlisted the help of Chris' mom, Linda Bergendahl-Pauling and with 3 others they formed the 501c3 that we know today as the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The first official wish was granted in March 1981 to Bopsey who wanted to be a fireman, ride in a hot air balloon and go to Disneyland. Today, a wish is granted every 28 minutes and over 500K wishes have been granted in the past 40 years. In December 2015, Frank was identified as one of the "10 Most Amazing Arizonans", in a front page article in the Arizona Republic newspaper. In January 2016, Frank was identified in a Forbes Magazine article as a "Forbes Top Ten Keynote Speaker".
