My journey as the 49ers Fangirl began on January 14, 1990. It was on that day that as a young girl, I traveled to San Francisco with my family for the 1989 NFC Championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. A native Angeleno, I was rooting for the Rams. Then at some poin…
Jimmy Garoppolo is 3-0 as a starter for the San Francisco 49ers, and man, does this feel like a different football team than the one that started the season. And that’s mainly because it is. Garoppolo has not only solidified himself as a franchise quarterback, but he has breathed life into an offense, and into a team, that desperately needed it. With all the excitement that Garoppolo brings to Santa Clara, Eric Branch (http://www.twitter.com/Eric_Branch) of the San Francisco Chronicle joins me (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) and Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) to talk about this new era of 49ers’ football and what it means for the future of the organization. We had a lot of fun with this one and we hope you enjoy it too! Hello 49ers fans! The Jimmy Garoppolo era is off to a great start, as the new starting quarterback led the Niners to a 15-14 victory over the Chicago Bears in his first start. Not only did he make his receivers and the offense better, but the defense was on the field for far fewer plays, making that unit stronger and more efficient as well. Garoppolo is a legit QB, and the San Francisco 49ers have found their piece to that puzzle. David Lombardi (http://www.twitter.com/LombardiHimself) from The Athletic joins Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and me (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) to talk about all things 49ers, including: The new QB of course - The feeling in the 49ers’ locker room and throughout Levi’s Stadium - The upcoming game against Houston - The benefits of winning, no matter what that does to the Draft - And the top needs the Niners have going into the offseason. Thanks for listening! Go Niners!
Hello 49ers Faithful. It’s official. Jimmy Garoppolo will start Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Kyle Shanahan informed his quarterbacks earlier today. When C.J. Beathard left Sunday’s game with knee and hip injuries, Garoppolo came in and dazzled. He was in for three plays, but those three plays were a four yard scramble, a nine yard pass to Aldrick Robinson, and a 10-yard TD to Louis Murphy. Like I said, he dazzled. With Beathard getting beat up week after week and not being 100%, it is no surprise that Shanahan has decided to see what Garoppolo can do. For his career, Garoppolo is 65 of 96 for 708 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. Here we go. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, TheFootballGirl.com’s Melissa Jacobs joins Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) to talk all things Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers. It was at the end of the podcast that we got the breaking news that would Garoppolo would start Sunday, so that was good timing. Listen to hear: • Our predictions for Sunday’s starter before we knew for sure • Our thoughts on the matchup with the Chicago Bears • Our take on the Eli Manning benching • And a lot about Jimmy Garoppolo. The bye week has come and gone, and the 1-9 San Francisco 49ers continue their home stand as the Seattle Seahawks come to Levi’s Stadium November 26 for a division rival showdown. Well, they’re rivals. Showdown may be strong for 1-9 vs. 6-4. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) welcome FSGN’s own Seahawks Fangirl (http://www.twitter.com/SeahawksFGSN), Christina Kaplan, to talk about the matchup. We discuss: • The Seahawks “atrocious” offensive line • Why Russell Wilson is so dangerous • The rivalry between these two teams and their fans • Who we think will be under center for the 49ers • And why Steph and I think the red and gold just might win this one. After nine painful losses, the San Francisco 49ers finally got a win and are 1-9 heading into the bye week. Even though they were playing the dismal New York Giants, the 49ers played well, played hard, and gave us a glimpse of what this team’s future could be. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph and I are joined by 95.7 the Game’s Bonta Hill (http://www.twitter.com/BontaHill) and 49ers blogger Rich Madrid (http://www.twitter.com/rjmadrid) to talk about the win and the 49ers. Bonta, Steph and I talk about the game, the quarterbacks, and the rebuild, while Rich talks a lot about Colin Kaepernick, the state of quarterbacking in the NFL, and being a veteran among all the discussion of anthem protests. It’s a very interesting pod that delves into a lot of issues. I hope you enjoy it, as much as we enjoyed recording it. Now, enjoy the bye week. Go Niners!
The San Francisco 49ers may be 0-8, but they have been busy. The traded a second round pick to the New England Patriots for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and sent cornerback Rashard Robinson to the New York Jets. For the first time in a long time, the 49ers quarterback situation seems to be solidified, and fans can breathe easy on that one. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Marcus Thompson (http://www.twitter.com/ThompsonScribe) of the Athletic joins Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) to discuss: • Kyle Shanahan, quarterback whisperer? • The trade for Jimmy G • The Robinson trade and what it means at corner • If I could play left tackle (yes, you read that right) • What the rest of the season looks like for the Niners • And why Steph and Warriors’ fans don’t need to panic. Hello Niner fans! Even with the San Francisco 49ers being 0-6, Sunday promises to be an exciting day at Levi’s Stadium. It will be C.J. Beathard’s first start at quarterback, the first home game since September 21, and most importantly, it’s “Dwight Clark Day.” The 49ers will honor the beloved former 49ers’ wide receiver, and it could not be more fitting with the Dallas Cowboys coming to town. You know, “The Catch” and all. 49ers’ team president Al Guido joins the pod to talk: - What the team has planned for the day - Who will be speaking at halftime (you will not want to miss it) - The various changes inside Levi’s Stadium and those that are coming outside the stadium - And the player protests and the support they’ve received from Jed York and the organization. The San Francisco 49ers are now 0-4 after losing in heartbreaking fashion to the Arizona Cardinals. They have lost their last three games by a combined total of eight points, which means they’re close, but they can’t seem to finish games. This team is in a rebuild and that’s the difference between good teams and building teams. Good teams have playmakers that can make the game-winning plays; rebuilding teams are still looking for it. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) are joined by Tim Kawakami (http://www.twitter.com/TimKawakami), Editor-in-Chief of The Athletic SF, to talk all things 49ers. Tim gives us a lot insight, including: - The keys factors in Sunday’s loss and what the 49ers are missing Brian Hoyer vs. C.J. Beathard - An interesting thought of what the 49ers could potentially do sooner rather than later at quarterback - The main reason for all those penalties, and it may not be what you think - How much patience the organization is going to have with Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch (hint: a lot) - And the secret to Tim unblocking you on Twitter. It has been an incredible week in the NFL, with players, coaches, and executives around the league coming together in protest about comment made by President Trump. This past Sunday saw teams staying in the locker room for the National Anthem, kneeling, and linking arms. It was a movement started by Colin Kaepernick, and it is spreading around the league. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph and I discuss a number of issues, including: - The power of the anthem protests - Steph’s article on Kaepernick and being a female sports fan (http://fangirlsportsnetwork.com/nfl/49ers-fangirl/cant-stop-talking-colin-kaepernick/) - Why we’re thankful to Colin Kaepernick - Why we’re proud of Jed York and the 49ers’ organization - Last week’s exciting Thursday Night Football game (http://fangirlsportsnetwork.com/nfl/49ers-fangirl/49ers-lose-thursday-night-thriller-rams/) - And we preview this Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. Hello 49ers fans. Well week one of the NFL season is in the books, and it was not a good one for the San Francisco 49ers. After a lot of offseason excitement and optimism, the Niners opened the season with a 23-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers. A lot went wrong, but a couple of things actually did go right and there is reason to believe that this team will start to gel and improve as the season goes on. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) take a look at the game, as well as next week’s matchup in Seattle, including: • Reuben Foster, his strong play, and how gets the fans pumped up. He looked great before leaving the game with an ankle injury. It remains to be seen how much time he will miss but head coach Kyle Shanahan said in his experience, these things take about a month. • the woes of the offensive line and why we hope next week will be better • the reality of Brian Hoyer as quarterback • the improved run defense and improved defense overall • the Seahawks offensive issues and what that could mean for Sunday • And some positive ways to look at the upcoming season. The 49ers won their last two home openers and those seasons went down from there. This team will improve, but it is in a rebuild, and it’s going to take some time. Hello 49er fans! The NFL Draft has come and gone, and the San Francisco 49ers are looking like a team with a vision, a future, and a plan. After making six trades to get the players they wanted for this year, still ending the draft with 10 new players (and that doesn't include the 18 undrafted free agents they signed), and picks for the future, the Niners are in a much better place than they’ve been in awhile. General manager John Lynch did a masterful job with the draft, and he and Kyle Shanahan are off and running. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersFangirl) discuss the draft and the team, including: - That trade from two to three - Reuben Foster and Joe Williams and how the 49ers are working to ensure success for both - The benefits of Lynch and Shanahan working in tandem - Whether or not I think Vance McDonald will be on the 49ers when the season starts - And the excitement we have about this team that’s been missing for some time now. It's about that time 49ers fans! After months of discussion, speculation, and mock drafts galore, the 2017 NFL Draft is just over a week away. The San Francisco 49ers have the #2 overall pick, and unlike in recent years, we do not have a lock on of who they will take. It’s also very likely that they trade back for more picks. This Draft will give the fans a clearer picture of the John Lynch/Kyle Shanahan era, and the vision they have for this team. Frankly, it’s all very exciting! On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersFangirl) are joined Bleacher Report’s draft expert Matt Miller (http://www.twitter.com/nfldraftscout) to break down the draft for the 49ers. We discuss all things draft related, including: - What Matt would really like to see the 49ers do with the #2 pick - The odds of Myles Garrett being available at the two spot - The first of the John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan NFL Drafts and what it means - Who we would each pick at two if it were up to us - Some draft sleepers teams should be looking at - And realistic expectations for the 49ers in 2017. After months and months of speculation, the 2017 NFL Draft is only a month away. Let’s be honest, fans of the San Francisco 49ers have been looking forward to April 27 pretty much since week two of the 2016 season. It is no secret that the 49ers are in the midst of a major rebuild, and though this can’t be done in one draft, a dent can certainly be made. The Niners need everything from a quarterback to offensive lineman to linebackers to, well, everything. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersFangirl) are joined by Pro Football Focus Analyst Jeff Deeney (http://www.twitter.com/PFF_Jeff) to talk about the upcoming draft. We cover: - our personal top picks at #2 and #34 - the variety of players and positions that make sense with the second pick - the difference between this year’s draft and those of the past few years - the excitement around seeing what John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan do - the deficiencies in the 2016 49ers and what can be done about those in late April. All in all, it should be a very interesting draft year for the Niners, and here’s hoping this team gets some upgrades. Thanks for reading and listening! It’s may be the offseason, but the San Francisco 49ers’ general manager and head coach tandem of John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have been busy making moves. They signed defensive back K’Waun Williams and defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, while re-signing wide receiver Jeremy Kerley to a three-year deal. In a move that was both surprising and not, the Niners have released wide receiver Torrey Smith, after two lackluster years in two very lackluster offenses. But still, it makes a lot of sense. They have also released safety Antoine Bethea. Onward and upward we go. With the free agency period officially beginning on Thursday and the draft less than two months away, the 49ers are in need of a quarterback, wide receivers, linebackers, and basically everything else. Therefore, we can expect many more moves to come. On this week’s Talking Touchdown’s podcast, Steph(http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl)are joined by Niners Wire of the USA Today Sports Media Group’s Chris Biderman to talk about the next couple months and how we see them playing out for San Francisco. We go over a variety of subjects, including: - Kirk Cousins and the pros and cons of trading for him now or waiting to sign him as a free agent next year - Other potential options at quarterback - Free agent wide receivers Alshon Jeffery, Terelle Pryor, and Pierre Garçon, and which of them we think make the most sense in the red and gold - Who we think the Niners will draft with the #2 pick - What kind of splash we expect the 49ers to make during free agency - And, Lynch and Shanahan and why we like what we’ve seen from them so far. The San Francisco 49ers have themselves a new general manager, and he comes in the form of Pro Bowler and Hall of Fame candidate John Lynch. Lynch has spent the last several years as an analyst on the NFL on Fox and though he comes to Santa Clara with no personnel experience, it's definitely an interesting hire. The Atlanta Falcons are going to the Super Bowl, and they’re going in large part to the play calling of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. And yes, that's the same Kyle Shanahan it looks like the San Francisco 49ers will be hiring as their next head coach. Jed York and company will have to wait a couple weeks to make it official, but it will be worth in the wait. Yet, as of now, it’s late January and the 49ers are without a coach and a general manager. Top GM candidates Eliot Wolf and Brian Gutekunst are staying in Green Bay. The now frontrunner is Minnesota Vikings’ assistant General Manager George Paton, but the plot thickens, as the Indianapolis Colts want to interview him as well. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) talk all things 49ers, including: - How the route to a new coach and general manager has been a risky one, but one with a potentially big payoff - The excitement over Kyle Shanahan and why we need to somewhat manage expectations - What it means for the new general manager’s duties if Shanahan is given total control - How we feel about the potential of Kirk Cousins in a 49er uniform - And the Paraag factor, because you know we have to talk about that. In what is becoming an annual tradition, San Francisco 49ers’ CEO Jed York addressed the media Monday morning. This year it was to talk about the firings of general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Chip Kelly and discuss the future of the team and the organization. “I want to let the fans know that I apologize for a 2-14 season. I apologize for being back here again and making a change, but I think it’s very important that we reestablish a championship culture. We need to make sure that we move forward and find the right head coach and general manager, two guys that can work together and reestablish the level that we all expect and want for the San Francisco 49ers.” I believe that York is sincere, and I do believe he wants this team to win. I also understand that from a fan’s perspective, it’s a lot of years of too much talking and not enough action. But, the past is the past. “Nothing that I’m going to say is going to be a satisfactory answer. We need to make sure that our success speaks for itself. Our actions have to speak for itself. I’ve done it before. We’ve put together a team that has had three NFC Championship runs. That was in the past. I can’t live on the past. I need to make sure that anything that I do is backed up by the results that are on the field.” That would do a lot to appease the fan base, but the concern is as long as York is in charge, nothing will change. York said he is the owner and owners don’t get dismissed. Tures. So, it's the Jed York show, and we're going to have to watch and wait. “Ultimately the decision will rest with me. I will look at people inside the building and continue to consult people outside of the building, folks that I trust, folks that are very well respected. But, our system and our structure is going to be a head coach and a general manager and ultimately that decision will rest with me.” So if York is ultimately making the decision, how do we know that we won’t be back here next year talking about a fourth coach being fired? How will York prevent that from happening? “I need to make sure that we have the right communication between the general manager and the head coach and the head coach and his staff. And that’s why those two guys need to be on the same page and you need to have the right people on the staff and know that we’re going to continue to do everything that we can to get better. They’re going to have a very, very long leash in terms of making decisions…They need to be able to reestablish a championship culture and that’s going to take time to reestablish a championship culture…My ultimate goal is to win a championship, win multiple championships, and that’s the foundation that we need to lay and that’s what we need to build for.” That was a big theme of the press conference. The head coach and GM being on the same page and communicating. That and culture. York is big into culture, so much so, he said it 16 times. So, we shall see. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) discuss the season, the press conference, and professionalism in the locker room. Another week, another terrible loss for the San Francisco 49ers. Two games remain in this dismal season, and the end can’t come soon enough. It has been a very rough couple of years to be a 49ers’ fan, so Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph)and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) brought in an expert on rough years to be a fan. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, we are joined by Ryan Burns - Cleveland Browns fan and the founder, host, and executioner of FootballSickness. We discuss all sorts of fun things, including: - The similarities between the 49ers and the Browns - The Ways the two organizations have intersected over the years with players and coaches - The positives Ryan sees for the Browns’ future - If the 49ers have the same positives - And Ryan gives us tips on how to get through these dismal seasons. Hello Faithful! Even though they got close the other day, the San Francisco 49ers could not pull out the win and have fallen to 1-10. A couple bright spots in the game were the competitiveness of the team and Colin Kaepernick’s continued improvement. Kaepernick threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 113 yards. Each week, he looks more and more comfortable in Chip Kelly’s offense and he is making the case to keep his job in 2017. Job security got Steph and I thinking. We want to see changes, but what will those changes actually be? There are those who want Kap gone, those who want Chip gone, many who want General Manager Trent Baalke gone. We asked three fans, Ryan Anderson, Titus Bresino, and Fernando Jaramillo which of the three they would keep and why, and we got three very different answers. Steph and I weighed in as well, because you know we always have an opinion. Would you like to be on? Tweet me @49ersfangirl (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) or @SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) to let us know. As we keep saying, we’re getting through this together, one week at a time. Thanks for listening! Welp, it looks like the game against the Arizona Cardinals was an anomaly, as the San Francisco 49ers were back to their old ways against the New England Patriots. It’s not that I thought they’d win, but I did think they could build upon the positives from the Cardinals game and compete. But, no. So, the Niners are now 1-9 and have tied a franchise record losing nine in a row. Congratulations? I don’t think so. Once again, San Francisco looked good in the first half and fell apart in the second. Maybe the games really are too long. Either way, here’s where we are. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) are joined by our fearless leader, Niners Nation’s David Fucillo (http://www.twitter.com/NinersNation). We delve into all things 49ers, including: - A recap of the Patriots game, because we wanted to torture ourselves and rehash that - The reality of Trent Baalke being the 49ers General Manager next year and - Chip Kelly being the coach - Why we think Kelly deserves another year - Who we would draft right now if we had to pick - The upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins - And the various teams 49er fans should be rooting for in the coming weeks. Six weeks to go my Faithful friends. As always, we are in this together. The San Francisco 49ers almost won on Sunday! Even though they didn’t, they showed some fight and that’s something. For the first time in a long time, eight weeks to be exact, it was actually fun to watch the 49ers. It came down to the last second, and I was actually nervous. It’s been ages since that’s happened. Colin Kaepernick looked strong passing for 210 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 55 yards and a touchdown. Most importantly, no turnovers! Meanwhile, the 49ers’ defense recovered two fumbles, had two interceptions and 10 pass break ups. And they held the Cardinals to 80 rushing yards total. Major, major improvements. Now Tom Brady and the New England Patriots come to town. Well…hopefully our guys in the red and gold can at least compete. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersFangirl)break down the game and look to the future, focusing on: - The difference we see in Kaepernick’s play, pocket passing, and overall confidence - The massive upgrade on the run defense…and the defense generally - Jimmie Ward and the 49ers’ secondary – did they really look that good or is just that they’re finally doing their job? - Trent Baalke’s mea culpa and what that means for his future and the future of Chip Kelly - And the upcoming game against the Patriots. It probably won’t be that fun, but it may not be as bad as you think. Thanks for listening! It’s been a tough season, but at least we have each other. Go Niners!! Hello 49ers’ fans. I hope you’ve recovered from Sunday’s loss, but you probably haven’t. This San Francisco 49ers team is certainly the worst I’ve ever seen and I wonder if it’s the worst in franchise history. Per usual, the Niners were in the game for awhile and then a Mike Davis fumble on the one yard line derailed the team. Colin Kaepernick had a good day throwing for 398 yards and two touchdowns, and DuJuan Harris looked good with 58 yards rushing and 89 yards receiving and a touchdown of his own. JaCorey Shepherd opened some eyes with his combined 104 yards on kickoff returns. Other than that, it was a mess. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph)and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) commiserate on the life of a 49er fan in 2016, focusing on: - the 49er defense, if you can call it that - coaching - the Saints game - the front office and the changes that need to be made - what would do this organization in - and the acceptance that this team may be go 1-15. Hello 49er fans! I hope everyone had a nice bye week and took some time to get recharged for the next nine weeks. I especially hope that’s true of the players. The 1-6 San Francisco 49ers are a mess from top to bottom, and with nine games left to play, they have nowhere to go but up...in theory. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Bay Area News Group and 49ers’ beat writer Cam Inman (http://www.twitter.com/CamInman) joins me (http://www.twitter.com/49ersFangirl) and Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph)to talk all things Niners, including: • The most recent installment of 49ers’ drama - this time with the city of Santa Clara • The inability of the Niners to perform past the first quarter • Colin Kaepernick • Whether or not our guys in the red and gold can win another game this year • How we see the Trent Baalke situation ending up • Chip Kelly and the coaches • And Sunday’s game against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. The 1-5 San Francisco 49ers are in trouble. They are bad. They have no leader. They have no identity. And they don’t play football well, or decent, or mediocre. It’s a most unfortunate scene in Santa Clara, and it’s not getting better any time soon. Sorry Faithful. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Jennifer Lee Chan(http://www.twitter.com/jenniferleechan)joins Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and me (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl), as your ladies of Niners Nation take a look at the red and gold and how we got here, focusing on: - The lack of talent on the roster - Defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil and his porous defense - The way the organization is run - Colin Kaepernick - Torrey Smith - The lack of playmakers - And more. The prognosis for this team is bleak, but at least we’re in this together, and the three of us will make you laugh. Next up, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Go Niners! Thanks for listening! Hello 49er fans. We are heading into week five of the NFL season, and the San Francisco 49ers continue to struggle. After jumping out to a 14-0 lead over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the 49ers fell apart in the second half, losing 24-17 and dropping to 1-3. And that wasn’t the worst part. NaVorro Bowman tore his Achilles and is out for the season, which is nothing short of a devastating loss for San Francisco. The show must go on. It’s a short week and the Arizona Cardinals come to Levi’s Stadium for an NFC West showdown Thursday night. Both teams are 1-3. Both teams need to win, badly. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersFangirl) are joined by CSN Bay Area’s Mindi Bach (http://www.twitter.com/MBachCSN) to talk about Sunday’s game and preview this week’s. We focus on a lot of areas, including: • The loss of Bowman and what it means beyond Sundays (or Thursdays or Mondays) • The inconsistencies in both the 49ers’ offense and defense • What the 49ers need to do to at least somewhat turn this around • Wide Receiver Jeremy Kerley • Rooking Cornerback Rashard Robinson • What the 49ers are missing that was abundant a few short years ago, and no, it’s not just talent. • And how we see things going on Thursday. Well 49er fans, week three of the 2016 NFL season has come and gone, and things are looking a lot like 2015. The Niners are 1-2 and were embarrassed on the road against an NFC West rival. They looked entirely unprepared, as the Seattle Seahawks bulldozed right over them on their way to a 37-18 victory, and it was really never that close. The only bright spots for San Francisco were two 4th quarter touchdowns by running back Carlos Hyde and he is pretty much the offense at this point. Fans are calling for a quarterback change, but head coach Chip Kelly says not yet. What else is there to say really? It was a bad game, but we’re a podcast, so we still found plenty to discuss. Even so, Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) thought we’d bring in a different perspective. On today’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, we are joined by writer and Seattle fan Danielle Campoamor (http://www.twitter.com/DCampoamor) to talk about: - The 49ers vs. Seahawks and whether or not it still matters - Christine Michel’s breakout game - The Kaepernick vs. Gabbert debate - Steph and I on the Kelly train - How we still miss Jim Harbaugh - And which defense will show up to Levi’s Stadium for Sunday’s game vs. the Cowboys. It’s been a tough couple of weeks in Ninerland, but chin up Faithful, it’s only week four. That is potentially good news and bad news. Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel and my podcast. Hello Niner fans! I hope everyone is recovered from Sunday’s 46-27 loss to the Carolina Panthers. It was an eerily similar game to last season’s week two and no one wants a repeat of last season. The San Francisco 49ers are off to Seattle for a week three matchup with their division rival Seahawks. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph and I are joined by The Sacramento Bee’s Matt Barrows to break down week two and look ahead to week three. We look at: • The breakdowns in the 49er defense • The lack of run production on the 49er offense • The Niners’ desperate need for a big WR • The young talent in San Francisco (Santa Clara) and who the most talented player on the team may be • Trent Baalke’s draft strategy • And we each predict the score of the game. Hello 49ers fans. As you know, Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers have been in the news quite a bit over the last few days regarding Kaepernick’s decision to sit during the National Anthem. He is protesting racial inequality and police brutality in this country. It’s a decision that has sparked both massive support and massive outrage. As you can read here, I am supportive of Kaepernick and his right to take a stand in the manner he sees most fit. Meanwhile, the 2016 NFL season is less than two weeks away, and the Niners aren’t looking too good. The Kaepernick controversy aside, the quarterback situation is a mess, the team is lacking in playmakers, and there is a rebuild going on, whether the 49ers want to admit it or not. ESPN’s Jim Trotter (http://www.twitter.com/JimTrotter_NFL) joined me and Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) on this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast to discuss the above, as well as: • The conversation we should be having regarding Kaepernick’s decision • Kaepernick’s future with the team and the football reasons behind it • How Jim Harbaugh hurt Kaepernick’s play • The NFC West • And more reasons why it’s going to be another tough season in Santa Clara. We know this was not the most upbeat podcast, but a dose of reality is good every once in awhile. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll prove us all wrong. Thanks for listening! Go Niners! And just like that, the 2016 NFL Draft is over. For better or worse, the San Francisco 49ers made their picks, leaving the first round with two – DeForest Buckner and Joshua Garnett. I thought it was a pretty good draft, but on this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Tim Kawakami (http://www.twitter.com/timkawakami) gave us a perspective that has made me mull it over more. Kawakami joined me (http://www.twitter.com/49ersfangirl) and Steph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) to talk about a number of issues, including the draft, the problems within the 49er organization, the Warriors, and the definition of a Jedbot. I learned a lot from Kawakami and he opened my eyes to a couple of different viewpoints. You are in for a treat! Thanks for listening! Go Niners! The NFL offseason has been anything but boring. Between trade rumors, actual trades, free agency, and ridiculous interviews, fans have had plenty to talk about. Also, Colin Kaepernick is still a 49er. Just when you thought the Colin Kaepernick era was coming to an end in San Francisco, Kap showed up to off-season workouts and as of now, there’s no trade. And the beat goes on. The draft is just a few weeks away and as I mentioned, the 49ers’ offseason workouts began yesterday. Though the San Francisco 49ers have been quiet in free agency, things in Santa Clara have hardly been quiet. The San Francisco 49ers have seen their share of feuds over the past couple years, but one of them has been cleared up! Jim Harbaugh’s coming back? No. Colin Kaepernick and the front office are besties again? Not yet. But SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and The Santa Rosa Press Democrat’s Grant Cohn (http://www.twitter.com/grantcohn) have made up on twitter and beyond, which was a good thing for this week’s show. We are almost a week into NFL Free Agency and the San Francisco 49ers have barely made a peep, leaving many fans confused and angry. That being said, the Niners are a team in a rebuild and that starts with the NFL Draft, whether we like it or not. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Steph and I are joined by Bleacher Report’s NFL draft expert Matt Miller to talk about the best picks the 49ers can make to get this team back on track. And don’t worry, we talk Colin Kaepernick too, because, well, Colin Kaepernick. Thanks for listening! Comment below and let us know who you want the Niners to draft at #7 and beyond. Go Niners! The Denver Broncos will take on the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium. Super Bowl activities will take place in San Francisco, but fans will have to travel to Santa Clara on game day, which could bring with it a host of problems. On this week’s podcast, SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I were joined by CSNBayArea.com’s Ray Ratto (http://www.twitter.com/RattoCSN) to talk all things Super Bowl, including: • The matchup between the Broncos and the Panthers • The potential traffic and weather issues • The City of San Francisco as a host and Levi’s Stadium as a host • As well as a little 49ers’ roster talk for good measure. After a crazy weekend of playoff football, the AFC and NFC Championship games are upon us. New England will travel to Denver for one last Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady Bowl, while the Arizona Cardinals head south to face off against the Carolina Panthers. In this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, Aaron Nagler (http://www.twitter.com/AaronNagler) from cheeseheadtv.com joins me and SoCaliSteph(http://www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) to talk about • The Packers’ almost comeback win • The AFC and NFC Championship matchups • Who we think will play in Super Bowl 50 • And why the Chip Kelly hire is going to turn out just fine. The San Francisco 49ers fired head coach Jim Tomsula last week, which means the search for the new great coach is underway. Top names have been interviewed, with many believing that Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is the #1 choice of the organization. He’s certainly the #1 choice of a lot of fans. In this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, SoCaliSteph (www.twitter.com/SoCaliSteph) and I talk about the search, the candidates, and how we think it will end. It’s sure been a roller coaster so far; so it’s pretty much in line with all things 49ers. Time will tell. Go Niners! Hello 49ers fans! It is 2016 and already a new era has begun for the San Francisco 49ers. After a 5-11 season in which he was put in an impossible situation, Jim Tomsula was fired. Jed York addressed the media and fans, taking responsibility for the disaster that was the 49ers’ 2015 season. However, actions speak louder than words, and it remains to be seen if this team gets turned around. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/socalisteph) and I are joined by SB Nation and FanRag Sports Network’s Michael Erler (http://www.twitter.com/MichaelErlerSBN) to talk about: - General Manager Trent Baalke’s search for a new head coach - The 49ers’ need for a strong draft and free agency - Those pesky media leaks - And if we think true change is in the air. 49ers fans, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that the 2015 season is mercifully coming to an end, and we can start looking forward to next season! The bad news is I don’t think next season is going to be any better. So many changes need to be made on this team, and I am not confident that the 49ers’ organization is ready or willing to make them. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns’ podcast, SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/socalisteph) and I are joined by David Fucillo (http://www.twitter.com/davidfucillo) from Niners Nation (ninersnation.com) to review all things 49ers. We cover a variety of topics, including: - Mike Holmgren’s interest in coaching the Niners - The future of Jim Tomsula - The 49ers’ draft needs - And our predictions for this Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams. You win some. You lose some. In the case of the San Francisco 49ers, they just keep losing, and in ugly fashion. Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals was no exception, with the 49ers losing 24-10, and frankly, it was never really that close. So the beat goes on for the 4-10 Niners, as they play their final two games against the Detroit Lions and St. Louis Rams, on the road and at home, respectively. It’s abundantly clear that changes need to be made with all aspects of this team, starting with the coaching staff. On this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/socalisteph) and I were joined by CSNBayArea.com’s Matt Maiocco (http://www.twitter.com/MaioccoCSN) to talk about the state of the 49ers and where they go from here. We covered a wide range of topics, including: - Who the 49ers miss most from Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff - Who is most likely to be the new 49ers’ offensive coordinator, should Geep Chryst be fired - Whether or not the Niners should use a high draft pick on a quarterback - And what our predictions are for their final record. Another week, another loss by the 49ers. That being said, 49ers Faithful means faithful through the ups and the downs. SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/socalisteph) and I have loved the red and gold too long to turn back now; so even though we are frustrated and concerned for the team’s future, we still love our Niners, no matter what. In this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, we discuss: - What went wrong against the Browns - Scott Ostler’s article about whether or not the Yorks would sell the 49ers - Tim Kawakami’s piece on Colin Kaepernick’s social conscience (http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2015/12/15/in-praises-of-colin-kaepernicks-social-conscience) ...all while building excitement for our upcoming trip to Santa Clara to watch the 49ers take on the Bengals – eek! The 49ers got their first road win of the season, and it was exciting! Yes, they’re still 4-8, but they won on the road, in overtime, and showed heart doing it. These are all good things. They showed promise. That being said, the win wasn’t the only big news coming out of Ninerville this week. Team president Paraag Marathe was reassigned, which was a shocking move, as he has been one of the Jed York’s closest confidantes. There has been a lot said about York, and the frustration from the fans is rampant. This frustration is completely understandable, but he is the CEO, and he's not going anywhere. In this week’s Talking Touchdowns podcast, SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/socalisteph) and I discuss our thoughts on York, the surprising move regarding Marathe, as well as: • Sunday's win • Why we owe Blaine Gabbert an apology • And our predictions for the last four games of the season. Thanks for listening! We’d love to hear your thoughts, so comment below. Subscribe to our weekly podcast (https://bit.ly/itunessubscription) and my YouTube channel (http://bit.ly/1ODYueE). Go Niners!
Believe it or not, the San Francisco 49ers actually played well in Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals, with a solid defensive effort and continued progress from quarterback Blaine Gabbert. But, sadly, that doesn’t change the fact that they lost and that they are 3-8. On the plus side, next year brings a whole new season. On this week’s podcast, SoCaliSteph (http://www.twitter.com/socalisteph) and I are joined by Niners Digest Editor-in-Chief Chris Biderman (http://www.twitter.com/ChrisBiderman) to talk all things Niners, including: • The locker room without Colin Kaepernick • The state of Blaine Gabbert • The defense’s home prowess and road mess • And whom we think will be coaching the 49ers in 2016. Thanks for listening and if you notice an abrupt ending, we had some technical difficulties that forced us to wrap up the podcast more quickly than anticipated. Go Niners!
