Joe and Pat talk about how to value Gus Edwards after the J.K. Dobbins injury. Could Edwards be a Derrick Henry lite? There's also a re-examination of the Rams' backfield and how fantasy managers should regard Darrell Henderson and Sony Michael. Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) opens the show with a shout-out to ailing friend Mike Tagliere, then welcomes in Sean Koerner (@The_Oddsmaker) of The Action Network. Sean and Pat discuss where James Robinson should go in fantasy drafts now that Travis Etienne is out for the season, and whether Marquez Callaway should be a draft target after his tour-de-force performance in a preseason game against the Jaguars. Sean offers some thoughts on macro RB strategy, and then he and Pat dig into the upper tiers of the position. They agree that it's hard to parse the running backs in the RB5-RB14 range, and they reveal the players they're targeting and the player they're avoiding in that range. Sean defines “frozen pond running backs” and names a few RBs who fall into that dangerous category.   Keenan Allen and Terry McLaurin are popular draft targets for a lot of people, but Sean explains why they don't fit his draft plans. Sean and Pat talk about Ja'Marr Chase and whether it's right that his fantasy stock is plummeting. After some discussion about QB and TE strategy, Sean talks about how he became interested in betting odds and gambling, when he first began placing bets, and some of the weirdest things he's ever wagered on. To close the show, Sean names some of his favorite late-round dart throws, some of the players he's targeting in every draft, and some of the players he refuses to touch.  Host: Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF)  Guest: Sean Koerner (@The_Oddsmaker)          Podcast produced by Colm Kelly (@OvertimeIreland)  In association with TheFootballGirl.com  Music provided by International Jet Set   Learn more about your ad choices. August is upon us, and with the heart of fantasy draft season dead ahead, host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) welcomes in Scott Pianowski (@scott_pianowski) of Yahoo Fantasy. Scott shares his philosophy on how to value injured players, and he and Pat discuss what to do with Michael Thomas and how to value Jonathan Taylor and other Colts now that Carson Wentz and Quenton Nelson are hurt. In Scott's world, steady, undervalued, profitable veterans are referred to as Raul Ibanez All-Stars – a hat tip to the ever-reliable MLB slugger. Perhaps the NFL equivalent should be the Robert Woods All-Stars. Who besides Woods offers dependable, unsexy value, and why are those types of players so important? Scott and Pat drop some names.  Scott recaps his recent golf trip and explains how golf helped get him through the pandemic. There's also some musical conversation, of course, with Scott explaining why John Lennon is his favorite Beatle and assessing the career of George Harrison. Scott and Pat talk about “Hard Knocks” and this year's featured team, the Cowboys. Who's likely to be the more valuable WR – Amari Cooper or CeeDee Lamb? And how early is too early to draft Ezekiel Elliott? Scott and Pat debate who should go 1.03 in drafts, and Scott weighs in on Damien Harris, Jakobi Meyers and D'Andre Swift.  Host: Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF)  Guest: Scott Pianowski (@scott_pianowski)      Podcast produced by Colm Kelly (@OvertimeIreland)  In association with TheFootballGirl.com  Music provided by International Jet Set   Learn more about your ad choices. Is Jonathan Taylor ready to become a fantasy ultra-back? Shawn offers compelling reasons to take Taylor in the middle of the first round. Although he wasn't pleased that his Chiefs drafted Clyde Edwards-Helaire over Taylor, Shawn lays out a scenario where CEH could gain significant fantasy value in 2021 and also expresses enthusiasm for J.K. Dobbins, Antonio Gibson and D'Andre Swift. Shawn talks about his new podcast with RotoViz alumnus Ben Gretch and offers some thoughts on polarizing tennis star Novak Djokovic.  In his Scott Fish Bowl draft, Shawn took Cam Akers late in the third round and didn't take another RB until the 15th round. The six running backs he took in the last eight rounds are among his favorite Zero-RB targets. Find out which cheap RBs he went after. Shawn also explains why he's high on Logan Thomas and discusses his Tyler Boyd and Henry Ruggs selections. Shawn and Pat talk about the fallout from the Akers injury and discuss possible ripple effects of the Michael Thomas injury. Do you believe the WR position is deep? Shawn and Pat believe that's a fallacy and offer reasons why. There's some talk about the Denver RB situation, with Pat touting Melvin Gordon as a potential value even with rookie Javonte Williams threatening Gordon's workload. John and Pat also discuss Darren Waller and George Kittle.  As natives of Southeastern Wisconsin, John and Pat have been closely following the Milwaukee Bucks' playoff run, and they compare notes on Bucks fandom and the franchise's tortured playoff history. Pat also asks John about one of his former basketball coaches at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Greg Gard, who's now the head coach at the University of Wisconsin and whose strained relationship with some of his players recently became a national story. Pete and Pat start by discussing how rookies Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne might fare in Jacksonville under new head coach Urban Meyer. Pete makes the case that dynasty managers shouldn’t get locked into their pre-draft evaluations of rookies and should listen to what the NFL is telling them when a player slides, as with Hakeem Butler two years ago. But should that apply to Justin Fields this year? Pete makes the case for Kyle Trask as a worthwhile sleeper in dynasty rookie drafts, and he and Pat discuss the enticing upside of Trey Sermon. A lifelong Jets fan, Pete weighs in on the Zach Wilson pick, the Jets’ messy WR situation, and the likelihood that Michael Carter instantly becomes the Jets’ top RB. The conversation shifts to bands, as Pete and Pat talk about musical awakenings – what they were listening to before their ears were opened to the good stuff, and what changed their tastes. Pete answers a series a rapid-fire questions about favorite albums and songs from legendary bands, then recommends a favorite obscure album. There’s a little more conversation about dynasty rookie drafts and whether it makes sense to hoard QBs. The 2021 NFL Draft is in the books, and host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) brings in Marcas Grant (@MarcasG) from NFL.com and the NFL Network to discuss rookie landing spots. With so many disappointing RB/team matchups, how excited should we be about the Najee Harris/Steelers fit? Will Melvin Gordon block Javonte Williams in Denver? What should we make of a Travis Etienne/James Robinson/Carlos Hyde backfield in Jacksonville? Marcas lists his top six rookie WRs post-draft and explains why he’s not crazy about the Rashod Bateman/Ravens pairing. He also talks about Terrace Marshall’s outlook in Carolina and Amon-Ra St. Brown’s opportunity in Detroit. Marcas liked Justin Fields more than Trey Lance pre-draft, but does he still feel that way? Marcas details his recent trip down a rabbit hole of old dystopian action movies and talks about what he was binge-watching at the onset of the pandemic. A USC grad, Marcas talks Pac-12 rivalries and casts some shade on both UCLA and that most hated of Pac-12 figures, the Stanford Tree. Speaking of USC, there’s a quick glimpse ahead toward next year’s draft as Marcus sizes up USC QB Kedon Slovis, a top 2022 prospect, and Marcas and Pat discuss whether Sam Darnold’s career can be rejuvenated with the Panthers. There’s some obligatory Aaron Rodgers conversation, and the show ends with Marcas offering some quick thoughts on Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Tua Tagavailoa, the Steelers’ WRs, the Saints’ QB situation, and how soon Trey Lance might make his first NFL start. NFL Draft week is finally upon us, and host Pat Fitzmaurice celebrates by bringing in Matt Waldman, longtime Footballguys.com staffer and the creator of the indispensable Rookie Scouting Portfolio, a must-have for fantasy managers. Matt explains why Peyton Manning was a chef and Tom Brady was a baker, then discusses which of the top QBs from this class might fall into those culinary categories. Matt won’t be aghast if Mac Jones goes to the 49ers with the third pick and explains why, then extols the virtues of Trey Lance, explains why knocks on Justin Fields’ processing are flawed, and expresses his concerns about Zach Wilson. Who’s Matt’s No. 1 RB? It isn’t Najee Harris. Having once preferred Marshawn Lynch as a prospect over Adrian Peterson, and Nick Chubb over Saquon Barkley, Matt makes the case for Trey Sermon – and it involves something called curvilinear movement. After offering words of praise for Najee Harris and Michael Carter, Matt makes elevator pitches for Khalil Herbert and Kylin Hill. Matt talks the decision to finally ditch his 9-to-5 job to work on the RSP full-time, then discusses his musical background. Then the conversation turns to receivers and what Matt calls the best WR class he’s ever evaluated. He explains why Jaylen Waddle is his No. 2 receiver, compares Rashod Bateman to Cordarrelle Patterson (in a good way), and touts the upside of Kadarius Toney. He also goes to bat for two of his favorite sleepers in the class: Frank Darby and Josh Palmer. Finally, Matt offers a vast array of Kyle Pitts comps – Calvin Johnson, Travis Kelce, Kellen Winslow, Jimmy Graham, Evan Engram, Albert Okwuegbunam – and puts a few chips down on the one he thinks is most likely to stick. Shane and Pat start by talking about their preferred dynasty formats. Is there a case to be made for 1QB dynasty leagues? Is TE premium the way to go? There’s also some 2QB dynasty philosophy, as Shane and Pat discuss whether managers in 2QB leagues should feel compelled to draft Zach Wilson and Mac Jones over RBs and pass catchers such as Ja’Marr Chase and Najee Harris. Shane explains how he first got into fantasy football and how he got so wrapped up in the dynasty format. He also explains his “less personal s**t, more fantasy” mantra on his Twitter profile page. There’s some rookie TE chatter with Shane talking about the depth of the class and offering thoughts on Kyle Pitts and Pat Freiermuth. What’s Deshaun Watson worth on the trade market these days? Is Cam Akers being overrated in dynasty? Why is Robert Woods perpetually underrated? Is Jalen Reagor a dynasty buy? Shane and Pat tackle these questions and more. Which metrics should we be looking at? Who’s popped in Dave’s research, and who has red flags? And after Dave empties the left side of his brain, Pat taps into the right side, asking Dave which prospects he’s conflicted about and which ones he’s planted flags on. Dave talks about his battles with depression and anxiety, and the coping methods he’s had success with. There’s some macro conversation about dynasty startup drafts, as Pat and Dave talk about which positions they like to attack and whether they like to chase a title right away or play a long game. Dave and Pat also discuss what the 49ers could and should do with the No. 3 pick, favorite late-round best-ball targets, whether Jarvis Landry is a strong bounce-back candidate, and how to play (or not play) the Buccaneers’ backfield in 2021. Scott and Pat also discuss how fantasy leagues might handle the switch to a 17-game regular season. Not surprisingly, there’s some conversation about the Scott Fish Bowl. Scott talks about the most difficult aspect of putting SFB together every year, how some celebrities have found their way into the league, how last year’s unique QB scoring system went over, and future plans for live SFB drafts. He also drops a few hints at what’s in store for SFB11. Scott and Pat discuss the Dolphins’ recent trades and speculate on who the 49ers might draft No. 3 overall. Does size matter? Scott reveals whether he cares about DeVonta Smith weighing 170 pounds and Rondale Moore standing 5-7. Scott and Pat also talk about the Buccaneers’ backfield after the re-signing of Leonard Fournette. Scott spins a hell of a Fish tale about a pickleball injury, then details the depth of his hatred for actual pickles. After some conversation about sleeping habits, Scott names his WR1, and he and Pat discuss the some of the top-tier dynasty receivers. Scott also names a few players he thinks dynasty managers should be trading for, then lists a few players he had a hard time quitting. Joining host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) this week is Rudy Gamble (@rudygamble), co-founder of Razzball. After a mention of Rudy’s unique Twitter avatar leads down a rabbit hole to a brief conversation about baseball players from the ’70s and ’80s, Rudy and Pat address Taysomania: What should we expect from Taysom Hill going forward, how will he affect Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, and was it an outrage that Hill was TE-eligible on some platforms? Rudy and Pat also discuss the Joe Burrow injury, what it means for Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins, and what sort of career trajectory Burrow was on. While they’re on the subject of rookie quarterbacks, Rudy and Pat also speculate on where Justin Herbert might be ranked among the other QBs next year in redraft leagues. Having written eloquently about boldness vs. chalkiness in fantasy rankings, Rudy lays out his case that nonconformity should be rewarded in the FantasyPros rankings accuracy competition, and Rudy and Pat discuss the utility of fantasy rankings in general. Rudy lists some of his biggest hits and misses this season. There’s also some quick talk about the rest-of-season outlook for J.K. Dobbins and Jonathan Taylor, the Cowboys’ offensive resurrection in Week 11, and the Eagles’ Carson Wentz conundrum. And to celebrate Thanksgiving, Rudy and Pat have a hearty conversation about Thanksgiving side dishes. Host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) brings in guest Ian Hartiz of PFF (@IHartitz), one of the hardest-working analysts in the fantasy biz and an essential Twitter follow. Pat talks to Ian about how he developed his Twitter presence and how he came upon the idea for Helicopter Guy, a two-dimensional muse with a knack for predicting breakout games. Ian does a deep dive on the Buccaneers, discussing Ronald Jones’ Week 10 explosion, whether Leonard Fournette is still in play for fantasy, and how to value Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown. Pat and Ian also talk about the sluggish return of Michael Thomas, the outlook for Jonathan Taylor and the recent slowdown for Mike Davis. Following a windswept Week 10, Ian weighs in on weather effects and how much they matter for fantasy. He also talks about his high school playing days in football-crazed Dublin, Ohio, the possibility of coaching someday, and whether he has any lingering physical effects from his gridiron days. Ian explains why Darek Carr blocked him on Twitter and nonetheless praises Carr for changing his playing style. Pat and Ian close the show by discussing Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic, Carson Wentz, and whether a number of recent fantasy risers will have staying power. It’s a special election issue of Fitz on Fantasy, and – trigger warning! -- host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) and guest Pat Daugherty of Rotoworld (@RotoPat) dare to mix fantasy football and politics. Is all hope lost for Jonathan Taylor after a disastrous Week 8? The two Pats conduct a postmortem and look for a primary cause of disappointment. They also discuss the J.K. Dobbins breakout game, the value of Damien Harris and the state of the Buffalo backfield. Following a windswept slate of games, Pat and Pat share their views on how weather effects should affect start/sit decisions, then stay on a philosophical track by discussing how much emphasis we should put on defensive matchups when making lineup calls. Pat D. talks about mixing Twitter and politics, how he handles the Twitter hecklers and how, as an avowed liberal, he deals with the Donald Trump supporters in his life. The two Pats also get into their least favorite aspects of the Trump presidency, the future of the Republican Party and what might go down on Election Night (including Jägerbombs). Pat and Pat wrap the show with conversation about Antonio Brown, Lamar Jackson, Corey Davis, the Lions’ RB usage and the QB change in Jacksonville.
